There was a fire outbreak at Ladipo Auto spare parts market, Mushin Lagos at about 2 am yesterday morning which razed about 50 shops to the ground. No definite cause for the fire has been ascertained so far. One source told The Nation that the fire was caused by a gas explosion while another source said it was by irregular power supply. The fire reportedly started from the Osoro/Akinwumi area of the market. One of the traders at the market, Chukwu Ebuka Ekeneze said: “The fire was caused by gas; there is a woman who cooks nearby we heard her gas was left on and that lead to the fire outbreak,” he said. Another trader, Emeka said: “We got to the shop this morning and found our things burnt; the fire started 3am this morning, we could not salvage anything. My neighbour kept N2 million in his shop but getting here it was all burnt, we picked the money and all we could feel was the ashes. The security men on duty immediately alerted fire fighters, but they arrived the scene around 6am.” Ifeanyi Maduka said: “Well I can’t give you facts, but judging from all that has happened here since, we cannot ascertain the cause of the fire, this fire started around 2.am. This is typically a business environment; there is no possibility anybody could have been here to ascertain how it started, but some said it began from the electric pole, and giving the fact that there is gas around, it helped the fire to escalate. The information did not get to shop owners until about 5am.” Mr Felix Okoro, Chairman of the Osoro section of the market, said no casualty was recorded but goods worth millions of naira were consumed by the inferno. Lagos State Fire Service Director, Mr Rasak Fadipe, said his men responded immediately, and that the fire was put out at about 10 a.m.

Rapheal in his argument insisted that the application be heard due to the alleged shady dealings of the Chairman.
“There are s “I’m here to do my job and have the right to be heard.”
But EFCC’s counsel, Rotimi Jacobs in his response urged the tribunal not to entertain the application because it’s not ripe for hearing.
The tribunal Chairman, Danladi Umar held that the application shall not be “entertained and is hereby thrown out. Let’s move to the business of the day.”

Politics › Re: The State Of Nigeria Under President Buhari by kabnafs(m): 2:09pm On Sep 13, 2015 |
TonyeBarcanista: It is no news that since May 29, Nigeria has been delving from a very bad situation to a near comatose situation. Our economy did not only suffer but appears to be as the biggest victim of Buhari's mal-administration and ineffectiveness. Three sectors that I shall talk about in this article are the Economy, Security and the Petroleum sectors. Let's proceed...
STATE OF THE ECONOMY UNDER BUHARI During the electioneering period, President Buhari promised a 'gigantic' but illogical economic prosperity when/if elected. Immediately he was elected and sworn-in, everything changed for the negative. Job losses everywhere and uncertainty/negative slide is the order of the day. Let's see JP Morgan issue
JP MORGAN: To those that don't understand, JP Morgan is simply an index. Investors trust their index so much that over N40 trillion is put up by investors on bonds that JP Morgan list. In 2012 Nigeria's bond under the able leadership of Dr Goodluck Jonathan, ex-Finance Minister Ngozi Iweala and former CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi FOR the first time was listed by the index. This brought about investment into our bond market by foreign investors. In January this year, the Index placed our bond market on a warning list. Unfortunately, they decided to de-list us from their index starting from next month.
Why Nigeria Bond Market Was removed: JP Morgan's decision to de-list Nigeria's bond is summarily because of lack of fiscal policies by the Buhari government and CBN's tickling/manipulation of the Foreign exchange (www.reuters.com/article/idUSL5N11F1YQ20150909). The failure of Buhari to constitute a cabinet/implement fiscal programs has cost Nigeria potential investors and led to loss of some of the investors that Buhari inherited. The country is bleeding.
JP Morgan Never Asked Nigeria To Devalue The Naira: Contrary to the fables in some quarters, JP Morgan never asked Nigeria to devalue the Naira as a pre-condition to remain. It only raised concern that CbN was tickering with the Naira thereby allowing it a false value which no investor will accept. In simple terms, it advocated that market indices determine the market value (which some of us have been advocating). It also called for fiscal policies to be implemented , which Buhari led administration is yet to do. The country is bleeding.
STATE OF THE PETROLEUM SECTOR Okay, since time immemorial, patriotic Nigerians have insisted that the ongoing TAM is due to the efforts by the immediate past administration of Dr Goodluck Jonathan. The administration in March this year was very clear when it told the Senate that our refineries will start working optimally from the first quarter of 2016. On assumption to office, the Buhari administration in June 11 without lifting a 'shovel' came out to say that the Portharcourt refinery will resume optimal production in July www.premiumtimesng.com/business/184850-port-harcourt-refinery-to-start-production-august-nnpc.html. Not done, they came out on July 20 that ALL 4 refineries will start optimal production in July www.premiumtimesng.com/business/185402-nigerias-four-refineries-to-resume-production-in-july.html.
July came and gone...August came and has gone... Now the GMD of NNPC on September 10 came out to say the 4 refineries will start working optimally in December www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/189786-nigerias-4-refineries-must-be-functional-within-90-days-nnpc-boss.html
I won't be surprised If by December they shift it to January/February 2016 in line with the projected first quarter by GEJ administration.
STATE OF SECURITY/INSECURITY: As a pastor in Tinubu House of Prayer Ministry, Yemi Osinbajo was to use spiritual warfare in alliance with the military experience of renowed War field marshall, General Muhammadu Buhari to uproot Boko Haram from our territory. That was the message that APC gave Nigerians during the electioneering period. But since coming to power, Boko Haram that was in their extinction phase as at May 28 suddenly came back and have been terrorising Nigerians in the most brutal manner. Since May 29, over two thousand Nigerians has lost their lives. The latest victims are the unfortunate people in the IDP camp in Adamawa state. May their souls rest in peace.
May God Bless Us All . Y dnt u find somtin beter to do wit ur time ..you alwais write rubish |

Politics › Re: Stop Attacking Buhari Over Appointments, Let Him Do His Job – PDP Chieftain by kabnafs(m): 10:23am On Sep 04, 2015 |
midolian: A former governor of old Bendel State and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Dr Samuel Ogbemudia, has replied those attacking President Muhammadu Buhari over his recent appointments.
The elder statesman explained that the president needed time to settle for the best people who can work for the country.
He added that Nigerians would not forgive him if he failed.
He also described as unnecessary, attempts by some Nigerians to assess the administration in just 100 days in office.
He said, “When they knew that the man said he met everything in bad shape and in such situation you need to clean up the system so as to start on a good note.”
The PDP chieftain made this remark when he met members of the committee he set up to oversee the yearly Award of the Best Journalist in Edo State, led by a former General Manager of the Edo State Broadcasting Service (EBS), Pastor (Mrs) Sidi Lawal-Igioh.
“Nigerians asked him (Buhari) to appoint people, who can work with him and he can only appoint people he knows. If he fails by appointing a United Nation they will say it was his fault, they ought to have known. But he is now picking people he has tremendous trust in their ability.
“So, those criticizing him should let him do his work. If at the end of four years he did not perform, then Nigerians have another opportunity to either say carry on or stop.
“All these criticisms, I do not buy them. And the people who are criticising him probably they have never held any government position, they don’t know what is happening there, that all that glitters is not gold.”
Commenting on 100 days in office, Dr Ogbemudia said “first and foremost, Buhari was elected for four years and in the programme of events which led to the elections, at no time was hundred days mentioned.
“That they are being done in the past was perhaps a persuasive authority but that does not mean that everybody should keep to it. A programme well thought out to bring Nigeria back to the line of development, the line of security and so on, planning alone takes more than a hundred days.
“So, I expect that when eventually he finished the home work he will come out with something big. When he was elected, Nigerians have very high expectation of his performance and in order not to disappoint Nigerians, he wants to take time to plan his programme so that when eventually he pushes it out they will welcome it.
“So, they can excuse him because the Buhari they knew earlier on is no longer the same Buhari because this is a democracy. He has the National Assembly and the judicial arm now. His powers then is being shared with these two arms now.
“He cannot join the bandwagon, as a matter of fact that is why he wants to change the evil ways things are done before so that Nigeria will be better” he stated.
http://dailypost.ng/2015/09/04/stop-attacking-buhari-over-appointments-let-him-do-his-job-pdp-chieftain-ogbemudia/ he has spoken d truth...mOst of those critics knows notin abt govt. |

A 28-year-old agricultural engineer held captive for three days in the west African country claims name-dropping his famous compatriot calmed his violent aggressors By Ben Hayward Jun 29, 2015 08:20:00 An Argentine kidnapped in Nigeria claims he owes his life to Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.
Santiago Lopez Menendez, a 28-year-old agricultural engineer, had been working in the west African nation since last year, planting soya and corn crops close to Kontagora in the north-west of the country.
But he was kidnapped earlier this week and beaten violently by his captors, who hardly spoke any English and thought he was north American.
It was then in desperation that Menendez tried to tell them he was Argentine and he was eventually able to calm down his aggressors with repeated cries of "Messi, Messi, Messi".
Held captive for three days, the engineer was eventually released after the company who employs him paid an undisclosed ransom to the kidnappers.
Back in Argentina, his brother Jorge spoke to Clarin and said: "'Tell them I am grateful to Messi', he told me. 'Naming him is what saved me.'"
Menendez is now safe and will return to his homeland in the next few hours. |

reiterated the commitment of the present government to ensure that people caught in acts of corruption will face the consequences.
Osinbajo noted that corrupt practices, weak public and private institutions as well as public policies, were the greatest threat to the stability of the economy.
While speaking at the 3rd Annual Christopher Kolade’s lecture on business integrity in Lagos, the vice president said integrity should be an acceptable standard and aspiration of every business leader.
Speaking on the topic, ‘Beyond Compliance: Imbibing a Culture of Business Integrity,’ he added, “The most important thing is to do things right. It is important that what we do comply with the rule of law. There is need to ensure that people’s rights are not trampled on. And there is need to ensure that people face the consequences for wrongful actions. That balance is necessary. The administration will ensure that loopholes compliance are plugged and those responsible for creating loopholes will face the consequence.”
“The greater good of the company also means the greater good of many people, their lives and families. The question is, how do we respond to the ethical dynamics of poverty and corruption when it concerns our friends, ethnic or religious groups?”
Christopher Kolade noted the country was a difficult place to practise integrity because corruption was perceived as the norm.
He said, “We use corruption in our conversations than we talk about integrity. Integrity should feature more in our conversations. Integrity is meant to be natural to human beings.” |
Sports › John Obi Mikel 'definitely' Joining Al Ain, Says Gyan by kabnafs(op): 5:28am On Jun 24, 2015 |
The midfielder has reportedly grown frustrated with a lack first-team opportunities at Chelsea, with the UAE outfit's striker confident terms have been agreed with the player Jun 23, 2015 16:22:00 Asamoah Gyan says John Obi Mikel will "definitely" be leaving Chelsea for Al Ain this summer, insisting terms over a move have already been agreed.
The midfielder is reported to have grown frustrated at a lack of first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge, having started less than half of Chelsea's Premier League games last season.
Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas - both signed within the last 18 months - were Jose Mourinho's preferred pairing as Chelsea won the league title, and Mikel now looks to be heading for the exit door.
"I heard it this week that he has agreed terms with Al Ain and will most definitely be playing for us next season," Gyan told Metro TV.
"Its great news for us because Mikel Obi is a very good player and very experienced. "It will be exciting playing with him in the same team, because I believe both of us, with the help of our other colleagues, can do more for the club." |
Politics › House Leadership: Northern Reps Make U-turn, Mobilise Against Gbajabiamila by kabnafs(op): 5:22am On Jun 24, 2015 |
Leader of the 8th House of Representatives looked grim on Tuesday as his backing among the majority northern lawmakers began to drop.
The PUNCH gathered that except the All Progressives Congress stamped its foot on the matter by insisting that the Lagos lawyer should take the seat, he was likely to be out of reckoning for the job.
“Regarding the issue of the House Leader, there is a big problem.
“It is not that Gbajabiamila is not qualified; he is eminently qualified, just like his qualities were recognised during the contest for the position of the Speaker. He is the most qualified.
“But, you see, a South-West person (Mr. Yussuf Lasun) has already been elected as the Deputy Speaker.
“We cannot afford to allow the same zone take the House Leader again. That will be too much legislative powers in one area”, a senior member from the North confided in The PUNCH on Tuesday.
The development came as a group, Concerned All Progressives Congress Stakeholders, dismissed calls on Lasun to resign as unnecessary.
Investigations showed that many North-West members with the APC controlling majority of about 87 lawmakers were now opposing Gbajabiamila.
Incidentally, his major backers for the position of the Speaker, which Gbajabiamila lost to the winner, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, on June 9, came from the North-West.
Findings indicated that the agreement before the election was that Gbajabiamila would be the Speaker while Mr. Mohammed Monguno would be his deputy.
The position of the House Leader was to have been taken by a member from Kano State, Mr. Alhassan Ado-Doguwa.
However, Gbajabiamila lost the election while a member from Osun State, Mr. Yusuf Lasun, also beat Monguno in the race for the Deputy Speaker’s seat.
It was learnt that the North made a U-turn backing Gbajabiamila after the elections and sought to keep the position of the House Leader “since the South-West has already picked the post of Deputy Speaker.”
The PUNCH gathered that following an intervention by the leadership of the APC last week, the aggrieved members were said to have conceded that Gbajabiamila should be allowed to occupy the seat of the House Leader, only for them to have a rethink on Monday night.
“As it is, there are still no announcements and the seat remains vacant. Other positions, like the Chief Whip, the Deputy Leader and the Deputy Whip too have not been decided.
“The party has called another round of meeting this week and the discussions will have to continue until an agreement is reached”, another National Assembly official disclosed to our correspondent.
Efforts by The PUNCH to get the comments of the Chairman, House Ad Hoc Committee on Media, Mr. Sani Zoro, failed on Tuesday.
A text message our correspondent sent to him was also not replied as of press time.
The stakeholders, expressing support for Lasun, spoke against the backdrop of calls by those they described as “faceless”, asking Lasun to resign.
The faceless persons were said to have advised Lasun to relinquish the position for Gbajabiamila.
Part of a statement by Lasun’s backers read, “We make bold to say that apart from the emergence of Hon. Lasun through a democratic, open and transparent election, the process of the election complied with Section 50 (a) and (b) of the 1999 Constitution.
“We warn all those who have allowed themselves to be used for this reprehensible act to allow reason to prevail.
“For the change which our party promised Nigerians to materialise, all hands must be on the deck.
“The least President Mohammadu Buhari expects from genuine APC members at this critical moment is for everybody to be on the same page with him.”
Meanwhile, the South-South caucus in the House has rejected the position of the Deputy Whip, which it said was suggested to the party to be allocated to the zone.
The caucus, which is chaired by Mr. Pally Iriase, said the position of the Deputy Whip was an attempt to marginalise the zone.
Iriase had contested the position of the Speaker but later stepped down to support Gbajabiamila.
Part of a statement the caucus issued on Tuesday read, “It has come to our notice that a proposal purportedly emanating from the House of Representatives had been sent to the National Working Committee of the APC, wherein the South-South is said to be allotted the position of the Deputy Chief Whip.
“Our immediate reaction is to repudiate the fraudulent and insensitive proposal.
“We are members of the Loyalists Group, and to the best of our knowledge, no proposal for the zoning of principal officers was discussed and agreed to by any member of the South -South in the group.
“Unilateral and self-serving proposal by a few members cannot be said to have come from the group.” http://www.punchng.com/news/house-leadership-northern-reps-make-u-turn-mobilise-against-gbajabiamila/ |
