They don’t even mention it in the graduation ceremonies…
What employers place emphasis on is internship experience and projects ..

But for some big consulting or investment banking roles… they ask for GPA for internship positions… after school, what mostly matters are the job experience, networking , communication skills and projects the candidates have worked on

We always had autisim with us. It's just that the people with the thing were either ostracised, chased out or called mad people, or even murdered. Or considered very eccentric. Or considered strange. It's just that we didn't have a name for it. Add the fact that it is a spectrum. You can have someone who is not able to speak and needs help of caregivers, and then you can have someone who is normal, but finds most smells, and noise very very annoying. Autistic people both. (It's why it is called a specturm...there is no one size fits all descriptor).

As civilization has increased, so also the horror towards such things as putting people in the evil forest to die..., add population increase (in 1977, we was 3.9 bn , now we are over 8 billion, and improvement in diagonsis and medical science, and that's why we have an increase.

You can go online and learn how to weld and make a bicycle.
My brother (with degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical and Additive Production) will design a bike that is sleek, have very efficient parts that can be produced anywhere, smart features.
He'll make millions patenting his design and selling it to companies.
Maybe one of those companies will hire you, a welder, ro make the bicycle for a couple of thousands of Naira.

That's the difference between Trades and Education.

Now, I understand the Nigerian Education system has failed so most students are learning obsolete stuff (though I believe certain private universities are doing much better and their students keep getting into the top of the industries). But that doesn't make Education nonsense.

As for Elon Musk and Bill Gates being dropouts, that's like me saying my child passed her entrance exams into top private secondary schools this year without a lesson teacher (which is true). But I won't tell you she spent the last year preparing for them with a UK-based Education specialist with school tutoring and was using textbooks most kids in Nigeria don't have access to.

Don't compare the dropout kids from wealthy homes and highly-educates family backgrounds with kids from Mushin and tell Ikorodu kids that they should drop out because Ikoyi kids dropped out and were successes. They'll fail woefully. Even Middle-class kids in Surulere won't have access to what Ikoyi kids have.

Jason Njoku was taking his 10 yr old son to meetings with investors and touring companies, Jim Ovia's daughter was doing IT at 15 as a Frontdesk Operator at a top company, they have access to funding and expertise peers in Ibadan don't have

I think you're not a graduate, well you don't speak like one, I don't intend to insult you.

Do you know we don't produce in Nigeria? and it's largely because of lack of enabling environment? company that require this technical skill left the country, you are not talking about that one.

I lived in the US and had relatives who were graduates and those who were in trades. Only one person in trade was richer than the graduates.

Trades are really good but if they were superior to Formal Education, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk's kids would be running the largest construction firm in the world.

There's a lot of online global propaganda pushing people to not go to college and leave it for the elites. Because College made society more equal than before.

There are no Nigerian construction workers richer than any Architect. Even NSYC architects are earning in $$ via PPD work.

Trades breaks your body down very rapidly, most of them struggle with bad health. It's backbreaking work, you're exposed to more hazardous materials so the pay reflects that.

Formal Education without application leads to stagnation. And there's no such thing as a useless degree.

Nigeria's unemployment problems are because we produce very little and import everything. Almost all the factories being set up are run by foreigners. We have to industrialise or there will still be no jobs in trades, because Beninoise artisans and Chinese and Indian workers are preferred to Nigerians (we're a very dishonest society).
