Police have detained six people after opening a second investigation into football match-fixing following allegations that a player rigged a Championship game in return for cash. The National Crime Agency (NCA) confirmed this weekend that it was examining claims passed to it by the Sun on Sunday. The newspaper said an undercover investigator met ex-Portsmouth defender Sam Sodje, who said he could arrange for footballers in the Championship to get themselves a yellow card in return for tens of thousands of pounds. He also claimed he could rig Premier League games and even said he was preparing to fix matches at next year's World Cup in Brazil. Filmed on camera, Sodje allegedly claimed he could arrange a booking in exchange for tens of thousands of pounds. The ex-Nigeria international also allegedly said he had punched an opponent during a game against Oldham in February in order to be sent off in exchange for a 70,000 pound payout. Portsmouth spokesman Colin Farmery said: "If these serious allegations are true, then we are extremely shocked and saddened by them. Match-fixing of any type goes to the heart of the integrity of the game. "The player in question no longer plays for the club, and we have not been contacted by the authorities -- but of course we would co- operate fully with any inquiry." http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1644364/six-people-detained-new-match-fixing-probe?cc=5739 |
The crisis between the embattled members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities [ASUU], Adekunle Ajasin University [AAUA], Ondo state and their management is now deepened as new lecturers have been employment to replace the striking lecturers. Recall that when DailyPost visited the campus last Monday, some old lecturers were seen in various lecture rooms teaching , thinking the AAUA authorities and the striking workers have agreed to end the five months old strike. However, with a statement later issued by the AAUA ASUU’s Chairman, Dr. Meruyi Mekusi, insisting that they will not call off the strike until their national body orders them to do so might have forced the management to recruit new lecturers. Relatively, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Femi Mimiko, has charged the newly recruited lecturers to key into the work ethics of the Institution and always observe the values of the teaching profession. Prof. Mimiko, who also enjoined the academics to be loyal to the University at all times, gave the charge on Monday last week at the Opening Ceremony of a two-day orientation programme organized by the Institution for the new academics. The VC said, “Our expectations from you on the job are to be in constant search for knowledge and devise the innovative way of dissemination. There must not be mention of you in anything that is not worthy. Be role models to students and enhance their moral standard. You must be like counselors to them at all times. Be shapers of opinions. Engage in constructive criticism of society. Be solution generators. Be focused and play a big role in national development. “AAUA is a public trust that is dedicated to building leaders. You must, therefore, be loyal to the system. We expect you to give to this University an undiluted loyalty. We just launched AAUA ALWAYS as a new campaign. The message is that you must think about this University at all times.” While the VC commended them for being found worthy of employment after rigorous interviews, he said that the orientation became necessary to expose them to AAUA culture. He said, “This induction is to expose you to our own peculiar form of pedagogy that we want you to imbibe and to continue to sustain.” The VC was one of the four resource persons at the orientation programme and he spoke on “Who is an Academic?” He said the new intakes were supposed to teach, engage in research and community service. Prof. Mimiko urged those among them who were yet to earn Ph. D. to pursue it vigorously, saying, “For us, Ph. D. is a must have. Those who are yet to possess the Ph. D. should know that the most important thing that we will ask when you get here is, ‘How far you are going in the pursuit of knowledge, leading to the award of the Ph. D?” He promised that the University would give them support to undertake Ph.D. Programme in any University of their choice. Other speakers were the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rotimi Ajayi, who spoke on “Academic Profession in the 21st Century”; Prof. Francis Oyebade, who examined “AAUA Academic Culture”; and Prof. Niyi Akinnaso, who spoke on “21st Century Teaching”. dailypost.com.ng/2013/12/07/ASUU-strike-aaua-finally-recruits-new-lecturers-replace-striking-ones/ |

Even though a penis is controlled by the nervous system, it also has a mind of its own. Erections can occur at random due to some impulses firing from the brain during sleep and that is why most mornings, men experience ‘morning glows.’ The penis is turgid without a prior sexual arousal trigger. In fact, the penis does not need the man’s brain before it climaxes. It is basically the function of the penis than the brain of the man. Orgasm actually starts with the spine; the signal to ejaculate is the result of muscle contractions in the spinal cord and pelvis, not the brain. But amazingly, simple things like having a rough day at work can lead to a man not gaining an erection for a week. On average, adult penis typically measures between four and six inches when flaccid and six to nine inches when erect. So typically, most joysticks are created equal in almost all men. Human penis still weighs and looks bigger than that of other animals. Many men worry so much about the look of their penis but the truth of the matter is curves are common in penis. The vast majority of joysticks lean ever so slightly to the left or right when erect (you are probably just too distracted to notice). However, some bend so dramatically (or curve up or down) that having sex is almost impossible. This is known as Peyronie’s Disease and it happens when the penis doesn’t expand evenly during a hard-on. The structure of the penis does not help men to finish slowly; rather they are programmed to finish quickly. So wives, don’t take it personal. One of the purposes of intercourse for men is pleasure, then procreation. In fact, 85 per cent of men think of pleasure first before procreation while having sex. Penile rupture is very real; it tends to happen mostly during vigorous sex and also overly enthusiastic solo action like masturbation. Most men who have experienced this unthinkable breakage always report hearing a cracking noise, followed by excruciating pain. It is always advisable to get treatment on time because an untreated fracture can lead to permanent erectile dysfunction (ED). Penis size, thickness and shape are not genetic. joysticks are actually formed in uterus when the male hormones are in active service. joysticks have a ‘seam’ as all men have a line going down their penis and over their testicles. It’s more a ‘seam’ on the underside of the penis. It forms when the foetus is in the uterus. In women, the seam becomes the inner lips of the vagina. In men, the seam encloses the urethra along the length of the penis. joysticks contrast in colour to other body parts; joysticks are generally darker in colour than the bodies they hang from. Why? It’s part of the sexual maturation process. Every penis experiences a degree of shrinkage on a daily basis, especially when it is very cold. In other words, cold weather and cold water are a penis’ mortal enemies. A typical testicles need to be warm to effectively make sperm and testosterone. So when you stay too long in a chilly air-condition room on a daily basis, try to take a ten minutes’ walk in a warm environment away from the cold. But there is no correlation between penis size and shoe size, hand size or wallet size. And the worst exercise for the penis is masturbation. Masturbation is not healthy at all. Smoking isn’t just bad for your lungs; it is also bad for the penis. It’s no secret that smoking clogs the arteries, including those that fill the penis with blood, especially at the initial stage of ejaculation. This means the joysticks of smokers may have a harder time rising to its full potential at the occasion of sexual activities. Also, men will go limp if they drink too much. Men really do get ‘blue-balls, technically called ‘prostatic congestion which is caused by ‘trapped’ blood in the testicles. It has been discovered that a lukewarm shower or aspirin will also do the trick. With a vasectomy, a man can still be a father because some sperm cell can still hang around, ready, willing and able to cause a woman to be pregnant two weeks post operation. So, it’s important to use some kind of protection until your family doctor says the coast is clear. Please note that if an erection comes on and refuses to go away, this is not a miracle, but a medical emergency. This means that the blood flow that causes an erection doesn’t eventually leave the penis. Serious complications can result, like blood clots and some major damage. Questions and Answers Should I or should I not? Seven months ago, my wife of 11 years suddenly left my home unannounced with my seven-year-old last child. I was so worried I had to report the case to the police who after series of searching, eventually discovered that she actually moved to the house of one of my church members, a wealthy business tycoon. This became a court case and when she was asked why she left without traces, she said it was on the basis that I do not satisfy her sexually. Now, she is begging to come back. Should I take her back? Her insatiable sexual craving has been a big issue since the inception of our marriage. I can’t satisfy her even if I over try. Peter Ajukochi This is a case of libidinal mismatch leading to unfaithfulness, I think you both can still sit and talk things over. There are quite a lot of things to do together when couples’ sex drive do not match. Amazingly, every human being has untapped sexual potential in us. If she has been complaining from the outset of your union, what have you done to rectify the situation? Bear it in mind that your low desire affects your wife immensely; so you must stretch yourself to take time to enhance your libido. This will bond the two of you together the more and grant you some discoveries about your own sexuality. Take quality time to discover your wife’s sexual peculiarities. It is very wrong and unethical for your wife to abandon her matrimonial home in search of a momentary pleasure. But I would also plead for your forgiveness. Since she has discovered her mistakes, I am sure she will make it up to you. Please take her back and in future, don’t ignore her complaints. Why should I be careful about semen analysis? I have done quite a number of semen analyses, yet I can’t make my wife get pregnant. Why should I be careful about semen analysis or continue to carry out the same test? Matins Matins Are you sure you are carrying out the necessary test? Frankly speaking, semen analysis is not a measure of fertility; rather, it is a measure of sperm production and sperm delivery. So, a single semen analysis really does not mean everything is normal or abnormal. It just means there’s normal production, normal delivery of sperm. Most men, when there are concerns about fertility, will be told to get a semen analysis. It is a good thing but it is important that if a man has concerns over fertility, he has at least two and probably three separate semen analyses, each one after three days of abstinence, each about six to eight weeks apart. And then, and only then, can you say you have successfully completed the test. Is it advisable to send a spy after my partner? If a husband or wife notices some suspicious moves, activities and behaviour in the life of his or her partner especially sexual life, Is it advisable for the suspecting partner to send spies to get adequate information before taking necessary action, If no, why? Simian Jubilee I do not think it is a wise idea. One thing is certain, there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed over a period of time. And from observation, when you are not too sure of something, it is either you patiently wait for a proper timing or you wisely confront your spouse. And if he or she denies the confrontation, you can just keep your calm. Things will definitely reveal themselves sooner than you think. But if you start sending spies here and there, searching for information, digging up stories, you may end up destroying the very thing you want to protect. Where mistrust, doubt, and suspicion reign, every air that blows is a potential danger bomb. Can erectile dysfunction prevent pregnancy? Apparently yes but this depends greatly on the degree and level of the erectile dysfunction challenge. If it is a chronic erectile dysfunction, it has 75-83 per cent of preventing pregnancy, especially when the erection is not hard enough for effective ejaculation or when the man ejaculates just at the tip of the vagina. If it is an acute erectile dysfunction [ a sudden event of either premature ejaculation or quick ejaculation], there may be a likelihood of the man being able to impregnate his wife when the man is treated on time. The Police in Zamfara State at the weekend filed criminal charges against Senator Yerima Bakura and 29 others at a Zamfara High Court over alleged conspiracy to commit armed robbery. For those of us especially the pro ASUU who thinks the government sack notice is a fluke, below was how the insistent strike in River state university of science and technology was curtail. RSUST had been in the news over incessant strike actions called by the local ASUU headed by Felix Igwe over appointment of the vice chancellor by the Visitor. The university authorities and the state government later lost patience and crushed the confrontation, employing about 100 fresh lecturers to replace recalcitrant ones. The rest rushed back to classes. Later, the lecturers created a slogan; “strike not an option.” Now, lecturers in RSUST have disassociated themselves from the strike. According to one of them, “strikes are evil and destructive to the education system.” Adolphus Ejetobi, a professor and financial management expert and lecturer in the University, told BusinessDay in an exclusive interview that they are not part of ASUU and will not join the strike action. He said, “RSUST is not part of ASUU. We are not on strike. We have already agreed that strike is no more an option in this University because we see strike as evil and destructive to the public university system. We believe in dialogue and more so, RSUST is one of the highest paid universities in Nigeria.” Desmond Wosu, the public relations officer [PRO], said the academic staff of RSUST had no intention of embarking on any strike action. “The lecturers that we employed do not have any problem with the management of this university nor do they have with the Council. They are teaching,” he said. |

Source: Nigeria tribune THERE are indications that the strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may be called off anytime from now. These indications emerged on Friday following a secret meeting of some branch chairmen of the union in Kano, which sources said might not be unconnected with an attempt at the resolution of the strike. According to a source, the ASUU branch chairmen, who came in their cars, parked the vehicles at the old campus of the Bayero University, Kano and then left in a bus for a secret location for the meeting. The source said the choice of a secret location by the chairmen might be for security reasons. The branch chairmen at the meeting, it was gathered, included those from the North- West, South-South and South-West. www.tribune.com.ng/news2013/index.php/en/news/lead-stories/item/26948-ASUU-in-secret-meeting-in-kano.html Source: Punch Nigeria There is strong indication that academic activities may resume in the nation’s public universities early next week, Saturday Punch has gathered. Our correspondent gathered on Friday that members of the National Executive Council of the Academic Staff Union of the Universities again converged on Kano to deliberate on whether to call off their over four months old industrial action or not. The NEC members, who gathered at the Bayero University, Kano, penultimate week to review the reports of the various university congresses over the strike, suspended the meeting following the death of Dr. Festus Iyayi. Iyayi, a University of Benin lecturer and former ASUU president, who died in an auto accident involving the convoy of the Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada, on his way to Kano to attend the NEC meeting. There has been no date yet for the interment of his remains. However, feelers from Kano on Friday indicated that the ASUU members went into hiding for the meeting. One of our correspondents gathered that the NEC members, who reconvened in BUK, on Thursday, retired to a secret location for the meeting. Reporters made frantic efforts to trace the venue of the meeting without success. But many vehicles belonging to the members of the union were seen on campus. But a member of ASUU NEC, who craved anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the development, confirmed to our correspondent that the union leaders were converging on Kano for the meeting. According to him, though the union has lost a leading member and an academic, they were mindful of the feelings of the students and the public over the protracted industrial action. He noted that all the union’s national officers as well as other branch chairmen had arrived at the ancient city for the assembly. However, attempts by our correspondent on Friday evening to reach out to the University of Lagos chapter ASUU Chairman, Dr. Karo Ogbinaka, to confirm the meeting failed, as he did not pick his calls. He also did not respond to the text message sent to his telephone. Ogbinaka had earlier said the academic community was mourning Iyayi and so was not in a hurry to fix a new date for the NEC meeting. The telephone line of the union’s National President, Dr.Nassir Fagge, also did not go through. President Goodluck Jonathan had led a Federal Government team that met with the leadership of the union penultimate week. Following the discussion, the FG reportedly promised to inject N220bn yearly into the public universities for the next five years. The new offer is to begin from 2014. A majority of the chapters of the union had agreed on the suspension of the strike following the fresh commitment the leadership of ASUU obtained from the FG. Teachers in the nation’s three but 78 public universities embarked on strike on July 1, 2013 to protest the failure of the FG to implement the agreement they signed with the authorities in 2009. The pact largely centered on greater funding of the universities, a declaration of a state of emergency in tertiary education, better wages as well as payment of earned allowances to lecturers.
