Tocynone:She's Naturally beautiful brother. |
Watching You in 4D. In the government of islamisation agenda you are congratulating your sisters. Why not condemned them for accepting the position. FFK is doomed. |
Very Good |
Wat about his DNA inclination. Only few APC members have never been into other parties. Party is just like a vehicle that convey people from one Political station to another. |
TooMuchStuff:The North will equally form a formidable team to chase all the Yorubas and the Igbos residing in the North. What is good for the goose is equally good for the gander. Let us always preach the gospel of peace wherever we go. God Bless Nigeria and Nigerians. |
truthisgood:You are blinded by hate that's why you can't think using the brain. Please grow up. |
Lalasticlala, Seun please I'm finding it difficult to Package the write up together please help me out thanks. The last part (3) Because of your actions sir, today, every criminal activity in Nigeria, is attributed to the Fulani. And I’m not saying that Fulani are not involved in criminal activities, they are in so many areas and cases, but it is not true that they are the only criminals in Nigeria. You singled them out to demonize President Buhari, who is also Fulani by tribe. Before Buhari became president, the Fulani were involved in different crimes and problems in all parts of Nigeria. After Buhari, the problems will continue if we don’t find solutions to them. Under your government, we had Fulani crisis. Same for Yar’Adua and Jonathan. Jonathan was at some point the grand patron of Miyetti Allah. Did he fulanize Nigeria? As a leader in this country, much more is expected from you. Stop encouraging centrifugal tendencies in Nigeria. It is funny that you are suddenly against the Fulani now. You campaigned so hard for another Fulani, Atiku to be president. The same Atiku, you accused of committing the most horrible acts of corruption against Nigeria; the man you said God will not forgive you if you support him to be president knowing what you know about him. He is still a Fulani sir. Finally, I want to thank you for taking the time to read my long letter. I hope and pray that you find some of my thoughts useful! Nigerians are looking up to you to join other leaders in preferring solutions to the problems of the country. They are asking you to look at Gen. Yakubu Gowan, and make him your role model. My sincere respect and regards to you sir. God bless Nigeria. Kurtis Adigba |
Elukapendragon:The Letter Long Well. Continuation Your immediate successor, President Yar’Adua, tried to end the siege by proposing an Amnesty that was successful to some extent, but kidnapping has become a business. President Jonathan who succeeded Yar’Adua, didn’t do much in tackling kidnapping. President Buhari has made modest efforts in tackling it, but it is not enough because the governors are not playing complimentary roles. Peter Obi, former governor of Ananmbra state, fought kidnappers in the state to a standstill. Governor Obiano is doing the same thing. Lagos State, is also leading in the fight against kidnapping. Kaduna State has just enacted a law against kidnapping that prescribed death as punishment for the offense. Edo State too. Majority of the states, are not doing much sir. Sir, you mentioned the killing of Mrs Olakunrin in your letter and described it as one death too many. In the statement you issued before then, you said her death has diminished Nigeria. I share in your sentiments and beyond sir. Her death, like the death of any Nigerian in the same or similar circumstances, is regrettable and diminishes the rest of us and the country in more than one way. But as painful and regrettable as her death is, it is not the first in the country. Under your watch as President sir, Chief Bola Ige, our nation’s Attorney General, was murdered in his home at Ibadan. The home, is supposed to be the safest place, but Ige was killed. Up and until now, no one has been brought to justice for his killing. What about Chiefs Harry Marshall and Sekibo? Funsho Williams and others? Of the people listed here sir, only Sekibo was murdered on the road. The rest were killed in their homes. No one has been found guilty for their murders. Do you then have the moral right to pontificate on insecurity sir? You may not know this sir, but I want to tell you that bad roads and darkness, are also accelerators of insecurity and poverty. Bad roads ensure that motorists cannot move fast, and therefore, become vulnerable to the murderous activities of criminals. Under your watch as President, Billions of Naira were budgeted for roads, the roads were never built, but the funds disappeared. The Lagos-Benin Expressway featured in some many budgets but the funds were never utilized on the road. President Jonathan did a portion of it, and President Buhari, is working on some other parts. Your government did nothing about it. What about power? You claimed to have spent $16B on power, where is the Fower? Apologies to President Buhari. You generated megawatts of darkness with the humongous amount of money. And you don’t want us to talk about it! We can only imagine what that money would have done for the economy sir. Many of the people terrorizing the country today, may have been profitably engaged in other activities, and poverty, would have been significantly reduced. But you failed and betrayed our trust. 3. Corruption. Where do I start here? Is it financial or political corruption? Do you know know who started corrupting our political system sir? It is you. Under your watch, we conducted the worst election in Nigeria. Figures were randomly awarded to parties and candidates. You promised it was going to be a do or die Affairs and you delivered on your promise. The major beneficiary of that election, president Yar’Adua agreed with the verdict that it was indeed a horrible event, but you went round western capitals praising the same election. Who introduced garrison command politics in Nigeria? It is you sir. You subjected Governor Rasheed Ladoja to the whims and caprices of your garrison commander, Adedibu, the late Alafin of Molete. You supported and facilitated his impeachment by a minority group in the house of assembly. And when his impeachment was overturned by the Supreme Court, you dithered in enforcing the judgment until the NBA protested against your illegality. What about the impeachment of Peter Obi In Ananmbra state, and Dariye of Plateau State? In both cases, less than two-thirds of members of the Houses of Assembly, carried out the impeachment under your watch. Maybe we didn’t have a Constitution then sir! Under your watch, Ngige, former governor of Ananmbra state was abducted by the private of Chris Uba, Eselu of Uga, and your man Friday. You did nothing sir. Former Speaker Ghali Na’Abba, displayed bundles and wads of Naira running into millions of Naira that you bribed law makers with to remove him. You had no convincing deniability. What about the N50M given to law makers as bribe to get them to amend the Constitution and grant you life presidency? You denied it, but your daughter has confirmed it. You were behind it. It is true that you made efforts to fight corruption by setting up the EFCC, but you undermined the fight against corruption by your own actions. Let me remind you about the mismanagement of PTDF funds by you and your new friend, Atiku. The facts were made public during your roforofo fight. In 1999, when you were freed from jail, you had barely N100k. Today, you are said to be worth Billions. How did it happen and what did you do to become so rich? But you keep pontificating on corruption and pointing at others. Your like a sign post- pointing the directions, but never going there. 4. Mismanagement of our diversity. You accused the president of mismanaging our diversity, a claim you said is responsible for the myriad of our problems today. You said the president has made lopsided appointments in favor of the North and his people, I don’t have the data, and you also did not provide any to substantiate your claim. You expressed outrage over the pattern of certain appointments and election of leaders of the National Assembly in terms of ethnic and religious balance, but you did the same thing happened under your government. You also believe like some Nigerians that only equitable distribution of public offices and positions, will guarantee Unity and imbue a sense of belonging in all, it is not true. Yes, it a good thing to do, but it does not promote Unity, and it will not guarantee unity. For a moment, let us assumed you managed our diversity well, and that you distributed equitably the opportunities available to you, why was Nigeria not United under you? Why do you keep talking about equity only with respect to the FG? Where is equity in the states, including Ogun where you are an influential and consequential figure sir? I’m not against fair and equitable distribution of opportunities, but it is no promoter of unity. It will only provide jobs and access to the few, and in most cases, not on merit, but on connection. 5. Islamization and Fulanization. With fairness to you sir, the fear of Islamization has always been with some parts of the Nigeria. You played an active part in creating it. You and your party weaponized it against President Buhari. You said he is an Islamic fundamentalist seeking power to Islamize Nigeria. Many Nigerians believed you, and still believe you, even after 4 years of the man in power. Recently in Delta state, during the Anglican Synod, you upped the ante by declaring that the president had an agenda to Islamize and fulanize Nigeria. The of event, time, and audience, was telling. You tapped into the dangerous mood of the nation arising from the activities of herdsmen to ratchet up the tensions in the land, by telling Christians that Muslims and Fulani were coming after them and their lands and religion. You have created a dangerous and combustible Fulaniphobia in the country. It rings true to your reputation as a master schemer who can execute good and evil with equal efficiency. |
OPEN LETTER TO FORMER OLUSEGUN OBASANJO. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Obasanjo presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State. Dear sir, I’m Kurtis Adigba, a lawyer, political consultant, and a citizen of Nigeria. I’m an idoma from Benue State. My father; Samuel Ochola Adigba, was a classroom teacher, and retired as a Headmaster. My father, was some years ago, the Benue State Secretary of the National Party of Nigeria( NPN). That was the highest he attained. My mother, was a school teacher who later joined the civil service, and retired as a Head of Department of Adult Education Department of Apa Local Government Area, of Benue State. She died in 2015. I chose to introduce myself to you upfront so you know I have no pedigree to match yours, and because I know your supporters and attack dogs will come after me, and raised questions about my pedigree. They will ask: “who is his father....who is he to dare write a letter to a former Head of State and President..”. Now you know. And hopefully, they know too! The only pedigree that I stand on to write you today sir, is my citizenship of Nigeria, a privilege and right I share and enjoy with you. The Constitution of Nigeria, confers on us ( you and me and others)the right to free speech. You have constantly and frequently exercised that right in writing letters to our fellow citizens who happened by good fortunes to be former and present leaders of the country. Only yesterday, you penned and published a letter to President Buhari on the state of our nation. I’m writing you this letter in the exercise of the same right- free speech. In your open letter to President Buhari, the last in the series, you raised so many critical issues: Boko Haram, Insecurity, Poor Management of our diversity, Unity or Disunity, Economy, Poverty, and of course, the violent death of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of Pa Fasoronti, an elder statesman and leader of Afenifere, in the hands of some yet to be determined people. Some people have jumped to conclusions and prejudged the investigation into the despicable act, I have chosen to wait until investigators complete their work and inform Nigerians about their findings. Sir, apart from the death of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, which is the trigger for the letter, there is nothing new in your new letter. Even her death, is not new in the sense that many Nigerians have been dying on that road and others, unmentioned. The only reason her death attracted your attention and that of others, is because she was the daughter of a powerful figure. After her unfortunate death sir, some Nigerians have died in similar circumstances unmentioned and unannounced, because they are ordinary citizens. As I write sir, many are suffering from the same fate. Let me talk about the specific issues in your letter: 1. Boko Haram. The seed that germinated into Boko Haram, was planted under your Administration. It grew and became a big tree under your handpicked successors due to outright denial, mischaracterization, poor management, and corruption. It was under your government that full Sharia regime was introduced in Zamfara state. You chose to ignore it because you said it will fizzle out because of internal contradictions. It did at some point; but before then, it spread to other states with deadly consequences. One of the groups that emerged from the Sharia revolution that started in Zamfara, metamorphosed into the deadly terror group known today as Boko Haram. It is true that under your administration, Boko Haram, was an unknown group nationally, but it was under the administration of your handpicked successors, Yar’Adua and Jonathan, that Boko Haram exploded into the deadly terror group that it is today. President Yar’Adua tried to deal with Boko Haram, but his poor health stood on his way. He died and was succeeded by president Goodluck Jonathan. It was under Jonathan that Boko Haram became the most deadly terror group in the world. They abducted over 200 girls from Chibok, killed over 100 children in Buni Yadi, carried out regular deadly attacks at Abuja and different parts of the country. President Jonathan from the onset denied and disputed the Chibok girls abduction. He said it was an orchestrated smear campaign against his person and government. It took a global outrage before he sprang into taking some tepid actions- he set up a panel to determine if the girls were indeed abducted. Sir, you wrote about the same issue in your epistle to President Jonathan. It was one of the issues you used to canvass support for the candidacy of president Buhari in 2015. In your your previous letter to President Buhari, where you asked him to dismount from the horse of Nigeria leadership, you gave President Buhari some credits for dealing with Boko Haram and fighting corruption. You also called for more efforts in combating Boko Haram and corruption. As you know, President Buhari on assumption of office took the fight to Boko Haram. He relocated soldiers to the epicenter of the terror group’s operations. He recovered territories occupied by them, destroyed their key infrastructures, and forced them into negotiations leading to the release of some of the abducted Chibok girls. Many people hitherto unheard of, but in captivity of Boko Haram, were also set free. The government discovered massive corruption in the management of funds earmarked for procurement of equipment to prosecute the war on Boko Haram. The funds are still being recovered. You mentioned that the government hastily declared victory against a group that is strengthening, I agree to some extent with you sir. I agree that the government oversubscribed itself when it declared that it has defeated Boko Haram. Boko Haram, is not defeated. It has been weakened, but it is still capable of Carrying out deadly attacks given the time, resources, and opportunity. We saw them abduct over 100 hundred girls from Dapchi after their “ defeat”. All but one of the girls, have been released. Leah Sharibu, is still being held by Boko Haram because she refused to denounce her faith in Jesus Christ. She is today the highest value target because of the religious factors made worst by people playing politics with her. God in whom Leah Sharibu trust as her Saviour and protector, will keep her. She will be freed from her captors. Amen. The government made a mistake in declaring victory over Boko Haram because, Boko Haram is fighting an ideological war. Ideology cannot be defeated, it can only be overcome by superior reasoning. But on the whole, the current government has done much more to fight Boko Haram and contain their terrorist activities than any other government. It can do more, and it will do more. 2. Insecurity in the country. I believe that in the real world, cause has effect, and actions have consequences. The insecurity of today, is the consequence of the failures of the past. I’m talking about the huge and unprecedented corruption in the management of public resources that left us with poor infrastructures, created inequality with some few very rich and many so poor, that they cannot afford the basic things of life. I’m talking about the failure to manage the crisis that arose all over the country sir. When the agitation for better allocation of resources started in the Niger Delta areas under your watch, you responded with maximum force. You sent soldiers to invade Odi under the pretext of looking for the people who killed some soldiers. Many were killed, women and girls were allegedly raped, and the community destroyed. The people regrouped and armed themselves better. They started kidnapping expatriates and local oil workers for ransom. It became a huge business for some governors who claimed to have paid millions as ransom to free the victims. Your government did nothing to stop or prevent kidnapping, and it quickly spread round the country. what about Zaki Biam, where the invasion by the Army helped to militarized the people with deadly consequences for security in the area? |
EFCC wrote: EFCC Gifts VON Badeh's Forfeited N4.5 bn Property The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, handed over a choice property forfeited by the late Chief of Defence Staff, (CDS) Air Chief Marshal Alex Bade to the Voice of Nigeria VON, which now becomes the new headquarters of the federal government broadcast station. The property, located at Plot 1386 Uda Crescent, off Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja, was handed over to VON by the EFCC Secretary, Olanipekun Olukoyede who represented the Acting Chairman of the Commission, Ibrahim Magu. Speaking through Olukoyede, Magu stated that: "This is an epic moment in the history of Nigeria, not for the ceremonial nature of this activity, but for what it stands for. This is one of the buildings that was confiscated from a fraudulent person who stole the money of Nigeria. The event taking place today is going a long way to prove to the critics, that the war against corruption is real; the battle has come to stay. If we are able to fight corruption in Nigeria concertedly, we would have fought 70 per cent of Nigeria's problem." He called on all Nigerians to join hands in the fight against the canker worm of corruption, saying such was necessary, "If not for us, but for the generation coming behind." While expressing sadness over the ills of corruption in the society, the EFCC boss praised President Buhari for providing the conducive atmosphere and political will to sustain the anti-corruption fight. "Within a few years, we have moved from stolen billions to trillions. Imagine the number of hospitals the trillions should be able to build but was never built, the number of students the stolen funds could have sponsored on free scholarship that but will now, never go to school. The thousands of kilometres of roads that could have been constructed, but will never be built; the number of arms that could have been purchased for our military men to fight insurgency," Magu said. He further noted that "Today's event is important if only to send signals to those stealing our money that one day, one day, monkey will go to the market and he will never return." While decrying the high rate of internet fraud among the youth, he said "The battle against fraud is for everybody. The EFCC will not come and train your child for you, it is everybody's fight." Having acquired a conducive headquarters, he charged VON to do more in terms of public education and enlightenment on the ills of corruption. The Director General of VON, Mr Osita Okechukwu, thanked the EFCC for its support to the government's broadcast organisation and unrelenting fight against corruption. "We are beneficiaries of EFCC's good work and fruits of President Buhari's anti-graft war. We thank the EFCC for its cooperation and for this befitting virgin gold corporate headquarters," Okechukwu said. He recalled that VON has been struggling for office space for over 20 years in Radio House, Abuja, a facility that belongs to its parent organisation, Radio Nigeria. At the handing over event, VON promised to produce a special programme to be dedicated to the EFCC. The property is valued at N4.5 billion.

How can a Christianised Nigeria be Islamised?! By Fredrick Nwabufo Esq. I have been cogitating on the persistent kvetching of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) that the Buhari government is Islamising the country. I have laboured to find a remote or even an obtrusive reason for CAN’s shrieks, which by the way, have become deafening. I must say, honestly, I have not seen any reason to align myself with the association in this regard. Although, as a Christian there is a sentimental part of me that wants to jump on the alarmist parade, and shout “Buhari is Islamising Nigeria”, I have a duty to my conscience to resist this provincial urge. When the government announced the sale of N100 billion worth of Sukuk (Islamic bonds) a few days ago, CAN hurriedly issued a statement, saying that the government wanted to pawn the country to Arab nations. According to the association, the current administration is accelerating the process of Islamising the country. I will not dwell on the merits or de-merits of Sukuk because that has been sufficiently treated by some writers like Ebuka Nwankwo. Before I divagate, I must add, Femi Falana, human rights lawyer, spoke for me on the subject when he said: “I am challenging CAN to Christianise Nigerians. Christianise us by setting up interest-free banks”. Now to the meat and potatoes. The response of the Supreme Islamic Council to CAN hit me without gloves on. It was a riposte pickled in truth. Here is an abridged version of the statement. “It would certainly be embarrassing for CAN to be told that the first and foremost state in Nigeria to submit application for loan to the Islamic Development Bank is a Christian-dominated state in the south-east. “This has been the factor that made Muslims to tolerate several practices or things that are essentially Christian in nature and outlook, in substance and form and indeed in principle and practice, but imposed on us. “We have not been talking of Christianisation because Sunday has been forced on us as a work-free day, or the Cross as our hospital sign and symbol, our membership of the International Red Cross, and many other things including almost all the titles of the heads of academic institutions (chancellor, provost, dean, rector, etc.). “Despite this remarkable tolerance from Muslims over the years, CAN appears to be increasingly becoming Islamophobic and paranoid about its hate and intolerance of Islam, casting aspersions, unnecessarily overheating the polity and unjustifiably creating fear and distrust in the minds of peace-loving citizens of our great country.” We Christians must be sincere, Nigeria is a Christianised country. This is largely due to British colonialism. Islam had made in-road into northern Nigeria by the 11th century – before Uthman Dan Fodio’s Jihad of 1804, which was the “climactic denouement”. Borno was among the first disciples of Islam in the 11th century. There was a literate population, a well defined system of government and codified laws. But the British yanked off a prodigious part of this heritage, imposing its own systems which were fore-grounded in Christian values and practices. Please note, that by the 11th century when Islam reached the north, the peoples of southern Nigeria, who are mostly Christians today, were animists. Nigeria has carried on where the British left off with little adjustments to the Christianity-denominated praxis. For example, Friday is a holy day for Muslims while Sunday is the same for most Christians in Nigeria. But while a Muslim will go to work on a Friday, a Christian will not go to work on a Sunday; just as it is in the UK and in most parts of Europe. Conversely, Friday is a no-work day in most Arab countries dominated by Muslims. When Arabic was introduced into secondary school curriculum, many Christian leaders objected to it because “the language is Islam”. They forgot that English itself is the language of our colonial masters who are mostly Christians. We have become so used to our Christian ways that any blip of the obverse sends us, top gear, into panic and revulsion. This is unfair. In Conclusion, I believe, one of the fundamental problems with Nigeria is the unconsented coitus between formulaic Christian ways and Muslim practices. But we must stop this Islamisation twaddle, and seek the path of tolerance. |

That's good My President. God Bless Nigeria and Nigerians. |
How Much is it Brother? |
Very Funny. Honestly, I'm not surprised at all we don't expect anything less. But how much was your pay in the June alert you received. God Bless Nigeria and Nigerians. |
In a warning message to Nigerian “bigmen” titled, ‘Intervene now, clouds of war gathering over Nigeria’, credited to Bashir Othman Tofa, a formerNational Republican Convention(NRC) candidate in the June 12, 1993 presidential election, the Kano-born politician said that Nigeria was “fast ascending to the very path that Freetown took; the path that ruined Congoand Libya; the expressway to Rwanda. ”According to Tofa, “…It’s either history is unfair to us or our leaders are blind to it. Indeed, the death meant to kill a dog does not allow her to smell faeces. And, like the saying goes, those who do not understand history are bound to repeat it.”Tofa said: “Ask Samuel Doe, when Rwanda arrived at Morovia, he hit the streets from the presidential palace in searchof food after slaughtering his lions for meal. That was how he was captured and slaughtered. Rwanda does not respect big men and big office holders; as there are no big men in Libya today, but war lords that are selling the children of even the rich into slavery. “When Rwanda arrives, there willbe no strong man, no community leader, big men or small men. In Rwanda, there were not even religious leaders. Everyone will be to himself and God to all us. For the bigmen aides will desert them and run to take their families into the bush for safety. Then, the high fences of the local almighties will be climbed, their strong padlocks broken, their properties stolen, their wives and daughters violated before them. ”The vibrations ahead of the Saturday’s elections are as ominous as they are dangerous. For some months now, many of those who have followed political activities in the country and utterances of political actors speak in tandem that the presidential election is not goingto be easily won and lost. The level of contestation this time around has been so high and apprehension-soaked that all manner of things are being insinuated.Although the political parties that are on the ballot have signed the two-layer peace accord and pledged to, not only give peace a chance, but also ensure their supporters do not stoke violence, the parties have not behaved in accordance with the letters of that accord. Moreover, despite the claim by the Federal Government that hate speech had become a criminal offence, the government at the centre is still neck deep into the offensive rhetoric. The narrative has not changed. Today, even children are shocked at the kind of words coming out of the mouths of highly placed individuals in government, all in the name of politics. All manner of gutter languages are being employed just to score cheap political goal. The election process has since been militarised. The deployment of huge number of soldiers and policemen to somestates raises some fundamentalquestions. The threat issued by the President last Monday when he ordered a shoot-on-sight order against anybody suspected to be engaging in ballot snatching or any other form of electoral fraud has raised the apprehension level in the polity. Members of the opposition and observers have since condemned the directive, notingthat it is a recipe for anarchy. Some members of the opposition alleged that it was a way the ruling party tried to frame up “key opponents”. “Don’t be surprised to see security agents whisking some people away from the polling booths on the trumped-up allegation of trying to commit electoral fraud. It is a calculatedattempt to clamp down on the opposition and to tell the world that the opposition was frustrating the process. Don’t forget that the Federal Government has alleged that thePDP was working in cahoots with the INEC to rig the election. They may want to create a scenario to justify their allegation,” an analyst, who asked not to be named, said. The tenor of utterances and body language of the government in power show that the election on Saturday is war, not just a game in which the players can lose or win. The shoot-on-sight order, which the nation’s security agencies have also given indication of obeying, may likely result in voter apathy. There are indeed dangerous vibes ahead of the election. The ruling APC is being accused a blocking all means of opposition accessing funding for their campaign, whereas the Federal Government is leveraging the public purse to fund the return bid of the President. The EFCC has since swung into action, hounding real and perceived friends and acquaintances of opposition presidential candidates. The PDP also alleged that it wasfrustrated from carrying but elaborate campaign because of intimidation from government. An observer, who spoke on the low-key campaigns occasioned by poor funding, said: “Ordinarily, it should have been apositive thing that expenditure on campaigns are reduced to the barest minimum because people are saying that Nigerian politics is becoming very expensive; but if that was to be a policy to check and restrict all the parties, it would have been okay. But in a situation where you are blocking the source or sources of funds against the opposition and you are spending excessively and lavishly on your own campaign; that is not good enough; it is immoral, and it questions the integrity of those in government. ”The polity is so tense ahead of the election that fear of violenceand of inconclusive election hasbecome so widespread that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) declared six-day prayers for Nigeria, urging all Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora to pray.Samson Ayokunle, a reverend and president of CAN, explainedthat the prayers became necessary following some dangerous developments in the polity. “The excuse INEC gave for the postponement of the elections does not go down well with all stakeholders,” he said.According to him, “The unfolding scenario on the political scene is not ordinary and there is the need for the Church to intercede for Nigeria. “If it is about the things we see in the spirit, I am not sure that elections will hold at all. We should rise up and ask for transparent, free, fair and credible election that will even be better than those of 2015. ”Ayokunle further said: “About the elections, we will pray that they will not result in war, bring hardship and suffering unto the populace. ”However, a former Chairman of a defunct national newspaper told BusinessDay that the country had in the past inched closer to war than where it is now, but it never happened. “The divine aura over Nigeria, in spite of everything, has seen herthrough every single problem, nomatter how threatening. This will not be an exception,” he said. |
Children are a source of delight and anadornment for the world granted by Allah to their parents They give vigour to the hearts, joy to the souls and pleasure to the eyes. They are the fruit from whom good is to be hoped for when they frequently supplicate “My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small. ”They are the ones in every nation upon whom hope for the future lies, and they are the youth of tomorrow upon whose shoulders the call to Islam is carried. Indeed Islam has elevated the status ofchildren and has laid down manners fortheir treatment through different stages, which start with the manners ofwelcoming the new born child. Our Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was a living example, educating, cultivating the Muslims upon the practices of Islam, teaching them how to worship their Lord in the best of ways. But a number of Muslims have strayed from his pure teachings and have substituted that which is gold for that which is worthless. *Encouragement to have children:* Allah, Almighty, Says (what means): “…So now, have relations with them andseek that which Allah has decreed for you…” [Qur’an 2: 187] The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said: “Marry the loving and fertile because through you, I will compete with the nations for superiority in numbers.”[Abu Daawood, Ahmad and Ibn Hibbaan]It is important that the parents bring up their children upon righteousness, so that the parents will benefit from them during their lives and after their death. What has preceded applies equally to both boys and girls, and indeed Islam has encouraged the bringing up of girls, and Allah condemns those that are distressed at the birth of a girl. The Messenger sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallamsaid: “Whoever takes care of two girls until they reach adulthood - he and I will come together on the Day of Resurrection (like this) - and he interlaced his two fingers.” [Muslim] *Giving the good news of the birth:* The near of kin who are anxiously waiting should be informed so that theycan stop worrying and congratulate the parents and supplicate for the baby. Allah mentions this good news being conveyed to a number of His Prophets, such as Zakariyyaa’ of his son Yahyaa, may Allah exalt their mention. Allah Says (what means): “So the angels called him while he was standing in prayer in the chamber, ‘Indeed, Allah gives you good tidings of John, confirming a word from Allah and [who will be] honorable, abstaining [from women], and a prophet from among therighteous’.”[Qur’an 3: 39] *Calling the Athaan in the ear of the newborn:* The first practice to do is to call the Athaan in the ear of the baby, so that the first words that the baby hears is the name of Allah, and the Kalimah (There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah). It is to be called immediately after the birth, or very soon afterwards as the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam did with his grandson Al-Hasan, as is related by Abu Raafi’ who said: “I saw the Prophet call the Athaan in the ear ofAl-Hasan Ibn ‘Ali when his mother Faatimah gave birth to him.” [Ahmad, At-Tirmithi and Abu Daawood]It should be given with its usual wording in a voice which is audible to the baby, not so loudly that it risks harmto the baby or alarms it. The Sunnah has not specified as to which ear it should be given, however the Messenger of Allah used to love to do good actions starting from the right, so it would be more appropriate to give the Athaan in the right ear. *The Tahneek*: This means to softening or chewing a date and then rubbing the palate of the new-born with it just after the birth or soon after. This is done by putting a piece of the softened date on the fingerand rubbing it from left to right in the mouth of the baby.Ibn Hajr said: “If one is not able to find a dry date, then a fresh date should be used, and if that is not available then anything sweet.”It is not essential to chew the date rather it may be softened in any way.It is done by the father or the mother or anyone from the people of knowledge whose supplication is hoped would be accepted. So he should perform Tahneek and supplicate for the child aswas the practice of the Companions.Imaam An-Nawawi said: “Scholars are agreed upon the recommendation of performing Tahneek upon the baby after its birth.” [Sharh Saheeh Muslim]Aa’ishah radhiallah ‘anha reported: “New-born children used to be brought to the Messenger of Allah and he wouldsupplicate for blessings for them, and rub a chewed date upon their palate.” [Muslim] *Naming the child:* The baby may be named on the day of its birth, third day, or later on the seventh day or past the seventh day, asthis is what is clear after study of all the evidences from the Sunnah. It is the father or the mother who choose the name for the baby. If they differ amongst themselves then it is thefather who has the choice, he may name it himself or give his wife the right to choose. The fact that this is theright of the father is shown by the principle that the child is ascribed and attributed to the father, as Allah Says (what means): “Call them by [the namesof] their fathers; it is more just in the sight of Allah…” [Qur’an 33: 5]It is also allowed for the parents to allow others to name the child, since our Prophet used to name some of the children of his Companions .The name should carry a good and praiseworthy meaning as the Messenger sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallamsaid: “On the Day of Resurrection, you will be called by your names and your fathers’ names, so make your names good.” [Abu Daawood] It is recommended to call oneself Abdullaah (a servant of Allah) or the servant of any of the names of Allah. Then it is recommended to name a child after a Prophet, due to the Hadith:“Call yourselves by the names of the Prophets.” [Abu Daawood] And the hadith: “A son was born to me this night and I called him after my forefather Ibraheem.” [Muslim]Then it is recommended to name the child after any pious person in the hopethat it will become like him/her. Then it is recommended to name by any name which has good meaning. It is forbidden to name a child with a name that denote servitude to other than Allah, for example Abd An-Nabi, Abd Ar-Rasool, etc., just as it is forbidden to name them with names that are particular to the non-Muslims like George, Michael, Susan, etc.The names of tyrants and evil personalities should be avoided such as Pharaoh, Qaroon, Abu Lahab, etc. Likewise it is disliked to name with the names of the chapters of the Qur’an like ‘Taa Haa’ or ‘Yaa Seen’ as is reported from Imaam Maalik and others. There is no authentic Hadith which ascribes the above two as being names of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihiwa sallam. *The ‘Aqeeqah:* After the seventh day of the arrival of the new-born, as a form of welcome forit and to give thanks to the One who gave the blessings, it is prescribed to slaughter a sheep. The Messenger sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said: *“Every child is in pledge for it’s ‘Aqeeqah which is sacrificed for it on its seventh day, and it is named on it, and its head is shaved.”* [Abu Daawood and At-Tirmidhi]If the new-born is a boy then two sheep are to be sacrificed, and if it is a girl then one sheep. This is the position of the majority of the scholars and Companions. The Prophet said: “For theboy two equal sheep, and for the girl, a single sheep.” [Ahmad and At-Tirmithi] The sacrifice is done by the father or a close relative, for our Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam performed the ‘Aqeeqah for his two grandsons. It is also obligatory to mention the name of Allah over it while sacrificing, and if a close relative is performing the ‘Aqeeqah then he adds, “this ‘Aqeeqah is the ‘Aqeeqah of so and so” mentioning the name of the person on whose behalf he is performing the ‘Aqeeqah, as is reported in a Hadith related by Al-Bayhaqi. *Shaving the baby’s head:* On the seventh day after the birth, the head of the baby should be shaved. So when Al-Hasan was born, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam told his daughter, Faatima radhiallah ‘anha: “Shave his head and give the weight of his hair in silver to the poor.” *[Ahmad, At-Tabaraani and Al-Bayhaqi]* It is not permissible to shave a part of the head and leave a part, as this was prohibited by the Messenger as reported by Al-Bukhari.The shaving should be done after the sacrifice, and our pious predecessors liked to rub some perfume over the baby’s head after the shaving. Then it is prescribed to give the value of the baby’s weight of hair in silver in charity, and it is recommended to give this charity on the seventh day also, butit is not necessary to do so, and may bedelayed. *Circumcision:* It is prescribed that the boy be circumcised, it is recommended that the circumcision take place on the seventh day, but it is obligatory to circumcise before the boy reaches puberty. Etiquette of Child Bearing And Naming In Islam *_Children are a source of delight and anadornment for the world granted by Allah to their parents*._ They give vigour to the hearts, joy to the souls and pleasure to the eyes. The earlier we wake up to this reality the better our chances for achieving first, a Nigeria, then a great Nigeria. Me: We must start speaking to people in the language they understand. Nigeria is not a divinely "revealed" nation; she is "our" formulation. We either live with mutual respect or we part ways peacefully! |
NIGERIA: AS RICH IN DIVERSITY AS POOR IN SINCERITY — Maiwada Dammallam “I repeat once again without apologies, Rivers is a Christian state. That is why nobody can touch us. When it mattered most, the Christian community prayed and God heard your prayers.” — Governor Wike Above was a declaration made by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, during a crusade organised by the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Church in Port Harcourt, My review of Wike’s overt and flagrant non-compliance to Nigeria’s federalism, a hobby anyway, is less about Wike’s rascality, negative exuberance and indecorous methods and more about our collective hypocrisy and seeming susceptibility to blackmail worsen by also a seeming desire not only to be politically correct but seen to be politically correct. Try to imagine the backlash should a Governor Masari, Ganduje, El-Rufai or Badaru of Katsina, Kano, Kaduna and Jigawa respectively, dare make such a declaration in the deepest recess of their minds and it escaped out and make it into public domain. Sure you will agree CAN, by default, will step-in and suspend every legitimate and civilised method of conflict resolution to hang the “culprit-Governor” while insulting the collective dignity of the North. Governor Wike would get away with this no doubt. My motive is not to stop him anyway. It’s just to nudge the North into a critical realisation that it’s almost “quarter pass” FIRE-FOR-FIRE on the sluggish clock timing Nigeria’s developmental progress. It’s quite unfortunate that the North has allowed itself to be undeservedly reduced into some sort of a laboratory for any retard to experiment his relevance and stupidity. Federalism is a concept built on the noble principles of trust, mutuality and respectability and it survives on nothing less. The North has wasted more than enough time playing the good boy in a situation where goodness is more a liability than a virtue. For having both the numbers and the resources to negotiate or blackmail its way through the complexity that’s Nigeria, I will blame the North more for the unpatriotic boldness of clowns like Governor Wike which, like it or not, is what keeps Nigeria in diapers long after its peers are full grown adults. Let me put it this way, petrodollars, thieving leaders, crumb-picking elders, ungodly religious leaders, compromised political class, subdued and confused citizenry and all, Wike will think thrice before facing TV cameras in a Church to declare Rivers State a Christian state regardless of motive and context. If Wike was satisfied that Masari, Ganduje, Badaru, Tambawul and El-Rufa’i would accept his challenge and declare all citizens of Rivers State in their domains as nothing less than citizens of a Christian state, he won’t entertain the silly idea voicing his nonsensical thoughts even if high on expired kain-kain mixed with the finest ‘ganja’. Sadly, this is not the case. Each time clowns like Wike authored a new nonsense and release to the public, leaders in the North will be running from pillar to post trying to outdo one another with the best medication to heal the new wound. The North’s method of turning the other cheek has left it with almost no space on its face for a new slap. Actually the North has since adopted a new method of preemptive medication for periodic nonsense of people like Wike. Almost simultaneously with Wike’s Christianisation of Rivers State, Emir Muhammad Sanusi of Kano was somewhere declaring all indigenes of Kano as citizens of the State. Quite a civilised signal but a very wrong one in Nigeria’s situation if I may say. The lavish tolerance the North always bring to the Nigerian table is as unhealthy as the blackmails of irreversible bigots like Wike. Only recently Bishop Hassan Matthew Kukah, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, floated a proposal to train 10 million almajiri street children in vocational skills using his outfit, The kukah Centre, a non-governmental agency to achieve this. Quite a laudable albeit unworkable and mischievous initiative if you ask me. However, I’m less concerned about the motive of Bishop Kukah’s ambitious initiative or the source(s) of funding such an ambitious project, the socio-political and legal encumbrances not to mention the inter-religious huddle he need to cross given that “Almajiri” is an entirely Muslim affair while he is not only a Christian but a Christian leader, a Bishop, in charge of a suspicious Diocese seen to be strategically located in the heart of the Sokoto caliphate for a specific purpose. That nobody will donate 10 million Muslim children in their formative years to him to do as he wish is his arithmetic to resolve. My arithmetic is just to calculate the backlash should Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, Gumi, Bala Lau or Jingir decide to float a proposal to rescue and rehabilitate the thousands of Nigerian prostitutes on the streets of various countries in Europe, especially Italy, entirely daughters of Nigeria’s Christian South South, South East and South West. No gainsaying, then, CAN and clowns like Wike ably supported by Christian leaders like Kukah will roll out their divisive and irritating drums of ISLAMISATION to demand for the head of the Sheikh behind the initiative. Ditto, the ongoing scandal of Senator Elisha Abbo in which the Senator was caught on video beating the daylight out of intimacy gadget’s shop attendant dutifully supported by his police orderly. If it were a Katsina, Kaduna, Kano or Sokoto Senator caught on video committing half of such demeaning infraction, by now CAN and a coterie of unscrupulous Christian leaders would be halfway pulling down the roof. And while at it, no Northerner would be spared a share of the punishment for the sin committed by the randy Senator. Why should I expect anything less when the same gang are accusing a President of Northern and Muslim extraction of efforts to Islamise Nigeria even when it should be obvious even to a retard that he lacks the political and legal tools or the military strength to do so. Even worse, when he was once a despotic and adventurous military ruler that didn’t attempt such nonsense. I’m just trying to highlight the Nigerian hypocrisy viz-a-viz the u healthy tolerance of the North and I hope I’m speaking loud enough to be heard. I’m not against one Nigeria but neither am I an advocate of a Nigeria built on unrealistic, skewed, unsustainable and bigoted terms of characters like Wike. Painting Northerners as leeches and liabilities is bad enough but nothing could be worse than Northern leaders agreeing with such insidious profiling by always turning the other cheek just to keep the union alive. An average Northerner is as much a victim of the destructive activities of a small community of thieving leaders in Nigeria as any citizen of any region hence, scapegoating and profiling Northerners as devils in addition to their sustained sufferings is the worst conceivable injustice whether the purpose is to negotiate legitimate rights or just to check the region’s numerical advantage to resolve a democratic situation that may be awkward to some. Our laws were designed to accommodate both our realities and to some extent, even our sentiments. It’s clear that these laws are at best obsolete hence, the need to review and upgrade them to accommodate our new sentiments. It’s just not workable to continue living these lies with the assumption that Nigeria may still hit it big. The longer we keep ignoring common sense, the longer bigness would keep eluding Nigeria. For instance, If it’s too much for Nigerians to calculate the benefits of housing and modernising cattle rearing vis RUGA settlements for the overall benefit of the nation, then it will silly for Nigerians to expect bigness out of Nigeria. Great nations are built by sacrifices and mutual cooperation never by blackmail — the type that saw to the hurried suspension of the voluntary RUGA settlements by the Federal Government. No nation was developed on terms like this and Nigeria will not be the first. The earlier we wake up to this reality the better our chances for achieving first, a Nigeria, then a great Nigeria.
