President Muhammdu Buhari on Friday presented the 2023 budget to the National assembly
The Federal Government had made it clear that it would sell or give some national assets to raise funds to finance the 2023 budget deficit of N10.78 trillion.

The Punch reports other ways the federal government is looking to raise revenue for the budget are through borrowing and project-specific loans.

President Muhammdu Buhari revealed the plan on Friday while presenting the Appropriation Bill of N20.51 trillion for 2023 to the Senate and the House of Representatives.

The budget includes N2.42 trillion in spending by government-owned enterprises. It is also about N3 trillion higher than the 2022 budget.

National Assets for sale in 2022
Earlier in the year the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) announced the sale or concession of 42 assets across the country.

The Vanguard reports that some of the listed assets include the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON) and Olorunsogo II Power Plant, among 42 transactions to be undertaken this year.

The transactions are 11 in the Energy Sector, 10 in the Industries and Services Sector, eight in the Agriculture and Natural Services Sector, and 13 in the Infrastructure and Public Private Partnership (IPPP) sector.

Full Commercialisation of the Federal Housing Authority(FHA) and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) would be undertaken.


The federal government also planned to recapitalize the Bank of Agriculture (BOA); while pursuing the reform of the Health .and Education Sector.

New projects would include Gimi Earth Hydro Power Plant; Lower Usuma Hydro Power Plant; Oyan Hydro Power Plant; Sale of the remaining non-core assets of NCC.

INVESTIGATE KIDNAP OF 21 MUSLIM CHILDREN BY ECWA CHURCH – MURIC

An Islamic human rights organisation, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the discovery and eventual rescue of 21 Muslim children from a building belonging to the Evangelist Church Winning All (ECWA) in Jos.

It will be recalled that the DSS recently raided a house located at JMDB quarters, in the Tudun Wada community of Jos North LGA of Plateau State, where the operatives rescued 21 Muslim children. The victims alleged that they were forcefully brought to the house and converted to Christianity.

The General Secretary of ECWA, Rev. Yunusa Nmadu, has also confirmed that the house in which the victims were kept was under the custody of the Church. (https://www.crimechannels.com/how-dss-operatives-rescue-21-almajirai-boys-kidnapped-camped-inside-church/).

In a statement issued by the Muslim rights advocacy group, MURIC, the organisation expressed shock at the criminal implication of the discovery and demanded full investigation. The statement was issued on Friday, 1st July, 2022 by the direc tor of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

The full statement reads:

“We are bewildered by reports that 21 Muslim children were rescued by the DSS from a building belonging to the Evangelist Church Winning All (ECWA) in Jos. The children were abducted from Gombe and forcefully brought to Jos.

“They had been kept for about six months before one of them escaped and sought help from a mosque in Jos. During captivity, they were forcefully converted and their Muslim names were changed to Christian names.

“This is like one of those stories from the movies. It is appalling. We are dealing with a highly sophisticated and meticulously planned conspiracy. The diabolical objective is to decimate Muslim population in Nigeria and eliminate Islamic landmarks wherever they exist.

“It is not a new phenomenon. This wicked plot has been in operation for several years without the Muslims suspecting anything. We recall the Kano 9 saga in which nine Muslim children were kidnapped from Kano and taken to Onitsha where their names were changed to Christian names. They were eventually rescued on Friday, 11th October 2019.

If you discover one, hundreds of cases must have gone unnoticed. Nigerian Christians are using all available methods to eliminate Islam. They know no rules, no decorum. Fair or foul, what matters is to capture all Muslims in the Christian den. Blackmail, mischief, deceit, subterfuge, abracadabra, anything goes. The more you look, the less you see.

“Any Muslim in distress becomes an easy target. Any offer of help from them to a Muslim is a concealed trap. Any admission into their school is an invitation to deprivation of personal identity and the surrender of one’s civil liberties. Proselytisation is being pursued with such astonishing aggressiveness.

“To the average Nigerian Christian today, except for very few of them, the only good Muslim is the ‘liberal’ Muslim. Yet to them, the only ‘liberal’ Muslim is the one who surrenders his Allah-given fundamental human rights and drops all aspects of his Islamic identity.

“That explains the raison d’etre for the daily abduction of Muslim children for the purpose of forceful conversion. The Nigerian church is now deeply entrenched in widespread kidnapping for Christ, all in an attempt to fulfil the Nigeria for Christ Agenda.

“We therefore call on the security agencies to protect Muslim children from the evangelising marauders. Our children are no longer safe. Muslim parents are deprived of their tender ones. We are made to undergo severe pain and excruciating agony by our Christian neighbours in their ‘Lets go Fishing’ campaigns.

“They use exploitation, capitalisation and extortion in the South West to forcefully convert Muslim children and jobless Muslim youth to Christianity. But it is kidnapping that they use in the North. Whereas you can read Nigerian Muslims like a book, our neighbours are calculating, conspiratorial, secretive and stealthy.

“Nigerian Christians are fighting tooth and nail to ensure that they increase the number of their followers. This is because the larger the congregation, the higher the day’s collection and the more souls they win, the higher the tithe. What is at play here is pecuniary benefit, including social and political influence.

“To those friendly Christians who have no such hidden agenda, we doff our hats. We urge them to continue in their good relationship with their Muslim neighbours. We need each other for the progress of our dear nation. No bird can fly with only one wing.

“MURIC charges the press to fulfil its obligation of fair and balanced reportage. We are worried that whereas any negative incident concerning Muslims is given full publicity and even blown beyond proportion by the Nigerian media, those involving Christians are hardly mentioned. We see no reason why the kano 9 of 2019 and this Jos 21 cannot receive the same media hype as witnessed during the Ese Oruru imbroglio of March 2016. Selective attention is unethical.

“We demand full investigation into the abduction of the 21 Muslim children found in ECWA church in Jos. This ECWAgate must be properly investigated. There must be no sacred cow. This is a scandal that should not be allowed to be swept under the carpet. We therefore call on the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Department of DSS to launch their investigations into this messy affair. Nobody must tamper with the available evidence.”

When all well meaning people and lovers of peace in Ilorin, Kwara State and beyond are heaving a sigh of relief that the tension created throughout last week over the refusal of some public schools in Ilorin to allow female Muslims to use Hijab has come to an end, Muslim Staffs and Students of Bishop Smith Memorial College were taken aback when they resumed for work on Tuesday,23rd March,2021. They met the Students' mosque demolished and all the mosque facilities carted away. Other items like Mosque mats, Water container and Kettles used for ablution were all destroyed and make sure not fit for use anymore. Those behind this unholy act know fully well that this mosque serves the Muslim Staffs and Students in the school. They are also not unaware that those items destroyed and facilities carted away play a major role in Muslim act of worship. Hence, it is calculated attempt to prevent from practicing their religion. This is nothing but religious hostility which amount to breach of Fundamental Human Right of Religion guaranteed under the Nigerian Constitution.

MURIC had in our earlier press release issued by MURIC's headquarters called the attention of civil organizations and other well meaning Nigerians to what is happening in Ilorin,Kwara State and advise that CAN,Kwara Chapter be called to order. But,it seems CAN, Kwara State is heedless and hell bent on legitimizing violence in the State in the name of religion. This religious attack on Muslim worship center by CAN, Kwara Chapter is a clear attempt to compromise freedom of Religion in the State particularly in the Muslim dominated city of Ilorin. And the perpetrators of this act must be brought to book otherwise same will be repeated in other places. This may ignite a counter response from the Muslim faithfuls and as a result degenerate to violence capable of causing break down of law and order in the State.

We use this medium to call on all Muslims in the State to be law abiding and to maintain peace even in the face of extreme provocations from the people on the other side. We will employ all lawful means to resist any attempt to infringe on the right of female Muslims to use Hijab and likewise the Muslim rights to worship in the schools in issue.

They have been dared, abused, attacked, harassed, and demonised, yet they pretend as if they don't watch the news. Nope, these Northerners watch the news more than us the Southerners.

They understand the consequences of war or tribal conflict, the Igbos and Yorubas living with them has been classified as their fellow Citizens, and they treat us right in the North because they understand the meaning of PEACE.

They have nothing to loose if this tribal conflict breaks out, but still they are as calm as the lakes in the desert.

In the past two days, they have raised funds for their evicted people from the South to be transported back to the North but they have not evicted anybody from the North.

In the past two days, they have buried their people over there in the South, but no Southerner has been buried in the North over tribal attacks.

I belive there is a limit to everything and everyone has a price, there is a limit to their Patience, endurance and understanding, I just hope we don't cross those limits and stop this madness.

Let the recent crisis that has happened in this Country teach us that not all Notherners are evil, not all Yorubas are evil and not all Igbos are evil.

Racial profiling must stop, we must fight the crime and leave the Tribe, we must prosecute the criminal and leave his or her brothers out of it.

Between 2018 and 2019, huge number of kidnapped kids from the North were found in Southeast, you all can bear me witness that kids were kidnapped from Kano and Kaduna and then sold in Anambra and Imo States, yet these Northerners kept quiet.

Let's all be calming down, no one is worst than the other, we all are humans and we are prone to making mistakes in life.

Value the peace of mind you have today, don't throw that privilege away because of pride and ignorance.
