Politics / Naira Redesign: NGF Writes Buhari, Demand Extension Of Time Frame Implementation by kahal29: 12:43pm On Feb 08, 2023
The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to extend the deadline for the swap of old naira notes.

The governors also demanded a review of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) cashless policy.

The position of the governor is contained in a letter dated February 6, addressed to Buhari, and signed by Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto and chairman of the NGF.

In December 2022, the CBN directed deposit money banks and other financial institutions to ensure that over-the-counter cash withdrawals by individuals and corporate entities per week do not exceed N100,000 and N500,000, respectively.

However, following protests against the policy by Nigerians, the apex bank increased the maximum weekly limit for cash withdrawals across all channels by individuals and corporate organisations to N500,000 and N5 million respectively.

The CBN said the aim was to boost the cashless policy and reduce the amount of cash outside the banking system.

In the letter to Buhari, the NGF said while the policy is “intended to address the contradictions in our fiscal environment”, poor execution of it would “hurt the economy and have a disproportionate impact on the most vulnerable”.

The NGF explained that state-by-state analysis of the policy has shown that it would affect “several intra-state security arrangements which basically depend on cash transactions to ensure effective implementation”.

“Even though the identified constraints are to be found in almost every state in the country, they are particularly evident in states like Borno in the North East and Bayelsa in the south-south where one finds a pitiable number of banks located only in the State capital which would basically render the workability of the new policies impossible for now,” the letter reads.

“The speed of implementation of the policy is a recipe for anarchy in the country and we urge a re-think of the policy. Regarding the reviewed cash withdrawal limit, we have found from synthesizing experiences across the country that the informal sector in the States, particularly in the Northern and Niger Delta States almost wholly depends on cash transactions because of the nature of their trade.

“It is our view, Sir, that an immediate limitation in the use of cash without robust engagement with stakeholders as well as the provision of accessible alternatives will deny such people legitimate sources of livelihood.

“We fear that the cumulative effect of these unintended but very profound and probable consequences of these policies would be a rise in the number of unemployed and unengaged persons who will inevitably resort to crime to make ends meet. This has a dangerous implication for the security of the country and the potential to derail Mr President’s security agenda.”

NEW NAIRA NOTES

The CBN had fixed January 31 as the deadline for the old notes to serve as legal tender but later extended it by 10 days, with February 10 as the new date.

The governors asked the President to extend the timeframe for the implementation of the policy and direct the apex bank to make the new notes available within an “enlarged” period.

The NGF noted the “remarkably unavailability” of the new naira notes, and the fact that some banks were rejecting the old notes even though they were still legal tender.

“These have resulted in riots and protests from Nigerians who are clearly frustrated by this policy,” the governors said.

“In light of the above, we most respectfully pray Mr President to approve an expanded time frame for the implementation of the policy and direct the CBN to make the new notes available within the enlarged time frame.

“Direct a thorough assessment of the prevailing economic conditions related to the implementation of the currency change and cash withdrawal limit policies. Direct that States be involved in future discussions regarding the policies in order to have revised policies that would recognize and consider States’ peculiarities.

“Consider and approve the putting in place of necessary infrastructure and facilities within a reasonable time frame to facilitate the implementation of the policy, including introducing incentives to encourage the use of digital payment solutions. This will help reduce the pressure on physical cash and promote financial inclusion, investing in infrastructure to expand access to financial services.

“Direct that a robust enlightenment campaign be mounted to create sufficient awareness in the citizens of the thrust of the policy. This will help people better understand the implications of the naira redesign and cash withdrawal limits and how to use digital payments platforms.”

Politics / PDP Urges Wike To Seek Medical Attention by kahal29: 7:34am On Jan 06, 2023
The Atiku-Okowa-led Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign has urged Rivers state Governor, Nyesome Wike to seek medical attention if he wants to continue to hobnob with the APC against the wishes of his people of Rivers State.

Phrank Shaibu, the Special Assistant, Public Communication to Atiku Abubakar, who said this in a statement in Abuja, said “Already, the so-called strongman of Rivers politics is appearing emaciated.

He gave credit to the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike for aptly likening the APC to “stage four cancer” while he was commissioning the new police headquarters in Rivers State in July 2021.

He said, “Already, the so-called strongman of Rivers politics is appearing emaciated by the day as he continues to work for the success of a sick and ‘cancerous’ party.

“It’s not only unpatriotic but tendentiously wicked for Wike to enter a deal to promote a candidate whose mental and physical abilities are suspect.

“His inability to sell Tinubu, a man who is yet to explain his role in the celebrated heroin trafficking case that led to the curious forfeiture of $460,000 to the American government in Rivers State has continued to give him sleepless nights but there is more pain for Wike in the coming days.

“The loud and repeated chants of ‘Atiku’ at the PDP rally organised by Governor Seyi Makinde in Ibadan where all the G5 governors were present should serve as a wakeup call to the rebel governors. The people are clearly not with them.

“For Governor Makinde, it is time to wake up and smell the coffee. Nothing can stand in the way of a moving train.”

Politics / Atiku Suffers Gaffe, Says ‘vote For A… I Mean PDP by kahal29: 10:51am On Dec 14, 2022
Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Tuesday, suffered a gaffe while speaking at the party’s campaign rally in Plateau state.

The rally was held at the Rwang Pam township stadium in Jos, the Plateau capital.

Atiku, while concluding his speech in Hausa, said: “For God’s sake and for the value of this place, ensure that you vote for A… I mean PDP this time around”.

The PDP candidate also promised his supporters in Plateau that if the party is elected in the 2023 elections, peace will return to the state.

“Yesterday, when we finished with Nasarawa successfully, I was told ‘let’s go back to Abuja’, and I said I won’t go back to Abuja because here is also my home and I have a house here. We came and slept in it,” he said.

“What I want you to understand is that we’ve made a promise that if you vote for PDP, which I’m sure you would, we promise to bring back peace in Plateau.

“We will bring development in Plateau, especially for the youths who are the ones I’m seeing here mostly. All of you, men and women, we will ensure that we boost the economy of Plateau state so that jobs and business opportunities will be provided.

“This is a promise we have made to you. Also, most of your roads, we are aware of their bad condition because the government of the APC hasn’t done anything about it for the past eight years. We promise to fix the roads.

“Therefore, people of Plateau, this place has its history. In this place, we voted MKO Abiola; in this place, we voted Olusegun Obasanjo; we voted for different presidents in this place.”

Abubakar, who had earlier defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), had rejoined the PDP in December 2017.

Meanwhile, the PDP presidential candidate’s gaffe comes weeks after a similar incident involving Bola Tinubu of the APC, which also occurred at the same stadium.

While addressing supporters at the Plateau rally, Tinubu, APC presidential candidate, had said “God bless PD… APC”.

Interestingly, Tinubu’s gaffe also occurred on a Tuesday.

Politics / Why Jonathan Can’t Back Atiku, By Wike by kahal29: 5:39am On Nov 23, 2022
Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike yesterday explained why former President Goodluck Jonathan is not likely to support Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar in next year’s election.

He recalled that Atiku never backed Dr. Jonathan for his re-election bid, adding that he mounted pressure on the former president to relinquish the 2015 presidential ticket of the party.

Wike said the former vice president embarrassed and humiliated Jonathan, who as a sitting President and candidate visited him in Donchester Hotel, London, to beg him to return to the party to support his second term bid.

The governor spoke when he led his Ebonyi State counterpart, Dave Umahi, to inaugurate the Akpabu-Omudioga-Egbeda road constructed by his administration.

He said: “What I don’t like is that we forget history easily. In 2015 when Jonathan as a sitting president won his primary, Jonathan went to London in Donchester Hotel to plead with this our presidential candidate today, Atiku Abubakar, to say ‘please, my brother, come back to the party and support me’.

“Do you know the condition they gave to Jonathan? That he should relingush his ticket not to run as president of Nigeria. That was a sitting president and presidential candidate of a ruling party. They gave him that condition, telling him to relinguish that ticket for him not to run.

“When I see some people running around and talking rubbish, they forget history easily. Today, we are not saying the presidential candidate should relinguish his ticket. We are not being selfish. We are only saying since you are now the presidential candidate, let our people take chairmanship and they say they will kill me. Is it possible?

The governor said some persons he described as rent seekers from Rivers were running around the presidential candidate banking on promises that they would become ministers.

Wike, however, said it was foolhardy for people who had not captured an animal to be deciding how it would be shared.

He said: “When you see some rent seekers from here going around saying they will give me minister of finance, they will give me governor of Central Bank, you haven’t killed an animal and you are saying women, don’t eat it. Kill the animal first to know whether women will eat or not.

“I don’t want that kind of promise. Give my people this one we are talking now. Give us. Give us the chairman so that things can move freely. I am not greedy. They come and tell you stories.

“I challenge them. Did they not embarrass Jonathan when he was running as a sitting President? I said Donchester Hotel in London. But they said he should relingush the ticket. Now, you are not a sitting President, you are just a presidential candidate. We say hold it, we will support you but let us have this one.

“People should appreciate things in life. So all those people, scavengers, vampires running around everywhere thinking they have what it takes. Nobody. The women seated here, all the youths, all these men will decide what will be as far as this election is concerned. So, nobody can intimidate me”.

Wike said some people were not happy that he commended Buhari for releasing the money he was using to execute projects in the state, warning them some persons to stay clear of him and whatever plans they had against him.

He said: “That is why when I said they should thank Buhari, people started fighting me. I came here you brought yam, plantain, cow; what are you doing. Is it not thanking me for this road? What is wrong if I said thank somebody who released money nobody released and I am using it to work for my people?

“They are coming to fight me. You can’t fight me. Even God says when someone has helped you, give thanks. When you give thanks, you get more. For those who don’t like to say thank you, it is their business and they will face God later.

“So, I have no apology to give to anybody. Let’s warn anybody who dares to do any rubbish because I said we should thank the President. Be very careful with me because what will come you can’t stand it”.

The governor wondered why persons, who forced the PDP into opposition, had become defenders of the party, adding that he withdrew the suit he instituted against Umahi to reclaim the PDP mandate when he joined the APC because of some steps the national chairman of his party took without his knowledge.

Wike said the road projects was meant to link Akpabu, Umudioga, Egbeda and other communities in the same ward, which could only be accessed separately through the East-West road.

He said: “They are all in the same ward. You cannot pass here to go to Umudiagha. You have to take East West Road again to go there. But today, you can pass here to go there. We have connected Akpabu bridge to Odido. They have never seen road in their life.

“This is an agricultural area. When you produce food, you can take it to the market. I am not just an Ikwere man, I am a proper Ikwere man. I will not leave this office until I am fully satisfied that I have done something for my people. As I am leaving, another person is coming.

“The only thing I will beg you. As I am doing all these things for you, please, keep your votes for us. At the appropriate time, we will come and tell you where you will go. Don’t mind all those people. They have run away to Abuja. Let them come. Ask them when they were minister, what they did for their people”.

Wike asked Umahi not to bother about spending any money on any APC candidate in Rivers, insisting that only the PDP existed in the state.

“I thank you for coming to see what we are doing here so that you don’t make mistake of sending your money to anybody as candidate. Those who are running your party here are those who hid our plane and sold our gas turbine.

“There is no chance at all. It is not propaganda. It is good to invite other parties. Kwankwaso was here. Obi was here. Many of these PDP leaders abusing me now had been here to inaugurate projects; just that I stopped a bit and they are angry. I have invited you enough; let me invite other parties so that they will help me and advise their people to step down. It is a strategy for me to win elections”.

Umahi, who backed Wike’s fight for justice, fairness and equity, said all of them in the South must stand on the Asaba Accord, an agreement by governors across party lines, that the Presidency must move to the South.

He said: “Many times Wike has rescued PDP. If you didn’t have someone like Wike, when we pulled out, it was going to be mass exodus. But the moment he engaged me, every other person became afraid. So, he saved the soul of PDP.

“When you say give us the chairman of the party, I said no, it is not just that. We had the Asaba Accord. All the governors of South came together and say for the interest of this country, let the next president come from South. It doesn’t matter where it will come from.

“You did not initiate that meeting. It was initiated by the Governor of Ondo for Southwest, the governor of Delta for Southsouth and myself for Southeast. When we told you, you came and talked to other governors. There was this Asaba Accord. It was in the Government House of Delta State. So, nobody else will come to tell anybody any other thing. Integrity is very important.

“You will never depart from that accord. I stand on Asaba Accord. I support most of the northern governors, who in their wisdom and for the interest of this country, came together and said look, let the South take the next President.

“Even though I thought they were going to support me during the primary, I am happy they brought a professional, a man who has track record of performance, another Mr. Project in the person of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu”.

Umahi said he would not partake in any other campaign in Rivers apart from the APC presidential campaign to garner votes for Tinubu.

He told the Rivers governor that the APC was not interested in the logistic supports he extended to Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, but that the party was interested in Rivers votes for Tinubu.

He said: “Here you are on ground. Many people can occupy the social media, but you have occupied Rivers State. When your party people said they have nominated a replacement for you, I say no problem; that should be on Facebook. Let the person touch ground in Rivers.

“You are 99 per cent in control. I thank you for not putting any kobo in Ebonyi again. The same way, because I have worked. You don’t have any PDP in Ebonyi. It is only APC. Our votes in Ebonyi will go to Asiwaju.

“My party APC doesn’t need logistics. We have seen how you promised all the candidates logistic support. We don’t need logistic support. We need votes just for the presidential one only. All I am asking is that presidential one.

“I will not ask what is impossible. Keep the presidential votes for Asiwaju. He will be coming here to solicit votes”.

Umahi extolled Wike’s push for fairness and justice, saying his fight was not personal, but designed to save the country.

He said: “You may not know that I am an apostle and a deacon. When I pulled out of PDP, I didn’t do it because of you. We have been together and planned together. We put Secondus together. You always conceive the idea. But I foresaw this. I foresaw there would be betrayal and there wouldn’t be equity and justice.

“That is why I pulled out. We must put the unity of the country forward. We must have Nigeria before anybody can be President. I want to thank you for what you are doing across the nation. It is giving a lot of hope. You don’t care who is Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa. Everybody, to you, is one and it is about the soul of Nigeria

“Our country must see wisdom in what you are doing. Your fight is not personal. God is with you. I have your back and we are united in this.

“Those governors you were in the process of removing before you soft-pedalled, we have formed G4, that, Wike, myself, Cross River and the Zamfara. The G5 is now expanded to G6, I am now a member. Many other governors want to join the Integrity Group because I have seen there is salvation for our country in what you are doing”.

Umahi commended Wike for appreciating President Buhari, saying the Niger Delta governors must account for all the monies they received from the President.

He said the President had performed, chiding those who were fond of creating an impression that Buhari had done nothing.

He said: “Those who criticised my father and the President of this country, President Buhari. I am proud of him. I want to thank you for appreciating him. Those who say we have problems, yes, we do as a nation. There is no nation that doesn’t have problems. But you say you are a presidential candidate, you can solve the problem, why are you doing blame game? These are people that have nothing to offer.

“If you say the administration of Buhari has done nothing, are the states not part of the administration? Has Rivers not done something? Rivers has performed and if you take away every other thing, we hold Rivers.

“But Mr. President has performed and I join you to thank him. There is no President of this country that ever helped governors much as Buhari has helped governors. I want to thank you. With what the President has done for the Niger Delta and you say you appreciate him, it is only those that have devil in their hearts that will oppose you. I join you to thank Mr. President. Those in the Niger Delta must give an account of all the monies they have collected”.

Umahi added: “When we talk about a nationalist, a man that is building bridges for the unity of this country, history will be kind to you. You have been inviting stakeholders across party lines to come to Rivers State. You are a man with a lion heart. You have never picked a fight for yourself. It is always for the people.

“I am an engineer and I know the worth of projects and what you have done here. I will not be part of any campaign here other than presidential campaign. I will not come. Your infrastructure is second to none. I thank you for what you are doing in Rivers”.

Politics / Rivers, G5 Govs Won’t Work For Atiku, Wike Declares by kahal29: 6:04am On Nov 20, 2022
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, yesterday, escalated his longrunning war of words with the leadership of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that neither he, nor his G5 governor allies, would work for the party’s presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, at next year’s elections.

He also doubled down on corruption allegations against National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, challenging him to sue if the accusations were untrue.

Wike made the claims when the Rivers State chapter of the PDP launched its campaign for the 2023 elections at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Omagwa in Port Harcourt.

Governors Wike, Seyi Makinde (Oyo State), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), have been at daggers drawn with Atiku since the conclusion of the party’s presidential primaries in May over their insistence that Ayu steps down for a member of the party from the southern part of the country.

Efforts made by the Atiku camp to make the aggrieved governors have a change of mind have yielded no result as they have consistently boycotted Atiku’s campaign rallies.

Any hope of Wike’s camp making up with Atiku’s became even more remote at yesterday’s rally as the Rivers State governor declared that the PDP presidential candidate was on his own as Rivers people would no longer dissipate their energy working for “their enemies”.

And that much was obvious as the 38,000-capacity stadium was filled to the brim without the image of the party’s presidential candidate anywhere in sight.

Ayu, also played no role as he was conspicuously absent while his duty of handing over flags to candidates was performed by the PDP Deputy Chairman, South, Taofik Arapaja.

Governor Wike made it clear that yesterday’s campaign flag-off concerned only the state’s governorship candidate, Siminialayi Fubara, and state candidates for National Assembly and House of Assembly elections.

He said: “Here in Rivers State, I will not support anybody who says that no other person from another ethnic group can be President.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us. Whether you are Hausa, Fulani, Yoruba or Igbo, from anywhere, you are entitled to be President of Nigeria.

“So, when you go on national television and tell anybody, ‘don’t vote for the Yoruba, don’t vote for Igbo’, you didn’t even mention where I come from.

“This means nobody identifies me, which means I come from nowhere. But God knows I come from somewhere.

“God is the one who says where you should come from. It has nothing to do with party. It has to do with my identity.

“By the grace of God, I come from somewhere and we must show I come from somewhere. I believe in party but I believe in equity, fairness and justice.

“I tell them don’t insult me and my people. You go to town hall and you tell them lies.

“I said if you believe in restructuring of Nigeria, if you believe in devolution of power, if you believe Buhari made a mistake of appointing service chiefs from one area, then I say what you should do is to correct it from the party.

“What the G5 is saying is equity, fairness and justice. The constitution of the party says we must share elective and political offices but you say you will take everything. I will not agree”.

Ayu already building private university, says Wike

Wike also continued his tirade against Ayu, insisting that the party chairman lacked the moral rectitude to lead him and Rivers State to any campaign.

He alleged that within one year in office, the party chairman was already building a private university in Benue State, wondering what he would do if given power.

The governor, who in an interview last month alleged that Ayu collected N1 billion bribe money from a presidential aspirant in Lagos, said: “I will continue to say this. If anybody feels hurt, let him go to court and challenge me.

“No man who is corrupt will lead me to a campaign. I have challenged Ayu. You are corrupt and you cannot lead me into any campaign.

“Rivers will not be led to a campaign by Ayu. Rivers State is hurt and angry.

“I went to Benue State, Ayu, you have not stayed one year in office and you are fighting corruption. How do you fight corruption?

“You took N1billion. I told you, you took N100 million and the money we realised from the primary. Ayu, sue me. Sue Wike.

“And you are building a university in Benue State. You have not gotten up to one year. Assuming you enter office, what will you do?

“You cannot fight Rivers State and go free. Challenge us to a debate. We are integrity governors.

“Who are those who killed PDP in Ogun State in 2019?

“Ask them who ran for Ogun State Deputy Governor in 2019? Who are those who killed PDP in Ogun State in 2019? Now they come to media houses and begin to talk.

“They had EFCC problem in 2015 with their wife. They came to me to rescue them. I was not Mr. Donatus, but today I am Mr. Donatus.”

Rivers gov challenges Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa, Edo to account for derivation fund Buhari paid them

Earlier at a banquet organised by the PDP in honour of the G5 governors who were in Port Harcourt for the party’s state campaign flag-off on Friday night, the governor declared that he had used his own share of the derivation funds owed the Niger Delta core states of Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa and Edo since 1999 and released by President Muhammadu Buhari to execute and inaugurate projects in the state.

He challenged his colleagues who got same money to account for it.

Wike said: “I thank President Buhari and people had been sending me messages, saying why did I say that? But I say why won’t I say that?

“I am not an apostle of Buhari. Most of you go to the Villa in the night but I haven’t gone. The truth of the matter is that Buhari released monies that were not paid to us since 1999.

“The money was paid to some states in the Niger Delta. Let every state come and account for the money. I as Rivers governor can account for it.

“There is one man who married 20 wives, and we said no you can’t extort states of over 400 million US dollars. One man. He said he did work, which work? But we say we won’t allow him take that money.

“He said I should tell Rivers what I did with the money. Today, part of what I did with the money is the Law school. Yesterday, part of what I did with the money is ninth flyover, the tenth flyover.

“Let him also tell his boss to tell his people what he did with the money.”

The governor said he was patiently waiting for the day the party would sack him as advised by some persons, insisting that he was not scared of such threats.

“They say they will sack me. I have been looking for the day they will sack me. Then they sack me, I pepper you. You will know that khaki no be leather,” he said.

He said: “People called me and asked me why I should commend President Muhammadu Buhari. I said it and I have no apologies to anybody. I am not a fan of President Buhari. If there is any governor that has criticised President Buhari, it is me and others from the integrity group.

“I said that Buhari approved the monies that nobody paid the core Niger Delta states of Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Edo. Every money that they took from us, he approved and we got the money.

“And that is the money I have been using to build the Law School, 12 flyovers, the Cancer Centre, the first road to Trans-Kalabari, Sakpanwa to Konor, dualise Ahoada.

“People must say the truth. I don’t know the day I will die, but now that I am alive, I will tell the people the truth. They tried to break us but they failed. They will never break us.”

Speaking on the Integrity Governors, he said: “The Integrity Governors want to rescue our party and rescue Nigeria. Let me assure you that the integrity group will not lose any of its state governors.

“No amount of gang up will make us to lose Abia, Enugu, Benue, Oyo and Rivers States.

“Let the world and Nigeria hear. This state will not continue to sacrifice for anybody. You must sacrifice for this state. We have suffered enough. We have worked for this party and we will not, it doesn’t matter what people will say. Death will come when it will come.

“But you conspired to think that Rivers State will be no state and I tell you, no way.

Wike suggested that Atiku was already planning to exact his pound of flesh from the governors who have opposing his candidature.

He said: “Just like all of them here, you have not won election and you want to jail Benue governor. You have not won election and you want to jail Enugu governor. You have not won election and you want to jail Oyo governor. God will not allow you.

“Because they stand for the truth and say they will support Wike, therefore all of them will come down. They will never come down. They cannot be governors again. Only Seyi, he will still be governor. He has worked for Oyo State and you cannot threaten him.

“What have we done. We say by our party’s constitution, President should go here and chairman should go here. But you say no you will take everything, we also say no we won’t allow that. History will be on our side that we are saying the truth and nothing but the truth.

“What you must do to chase away your opponent is operation show your report cards.

“Mr. President said we have done well, and if he says so, who are these people?”

Governor Wike took a swipe at a Delta Senatorial Candidate and Businessman, Ned Nwoko, for asking him to account for what he did with the money.

He reeled out the projects he executed with the money and called on Nwoko to ask his principal in Delta State to also account for his.

He said: “I am in support of PDP in Rivers State until you meet us. The governorship, the Senatorial, House of Representatives and Assembly I will fully fight for them to win elections.

“Here, I will not support anybody who doesn’t like Rivers State. I will not support anybody who doesn’t want equity, fairness and justice.

“If you want Rivers State to support you, come and say you believe in equity and justice.”

In his solidarity speech, Governor Ortom described Wike as a man who believes in equity, fairness and justice saying they decided to work with him in the interest of the country.

He said they believed before the primary election that it was only fair that after the eight years of Buhari, the presidency should go to the South.

He said: “We respect Wike because he fears God. We have chosen to work with him. With what I have seen now, I want to congratulate the incoming governor. We believe in the same ethics with Wike.

“For the sake of equity, after eight years of Buhari, the next President should go to the south. Your son contested but some said he lost. The issue of running mate was frustrated by enemies of progress.

“They have not been able to deploy the conflict resolution mechanism to resolve the crisis in PDP. Work with governor Wike, at the right time, we decide what to do. Anything outside equity and justice, we are not there.”

On their part, Ugwuanyi, Ikpeazu and Makinde called on Rivers people to vote for Fubara and other candidates of the party in the state.

Fayose asked the party leadership to resolve the ongoing crisis in the party before it becomes too late.

He said: “Governor Wike and G5 don’t want to be president; they are saying what is fair is fair. I plead with them to come and let us find a solution to it.”

Makinde said: “Let me congratulate the incoming from the governor to the House of Assembly. You should remain focused until we have the mandate of the people. Sim Fubara will be your governor.”

The PDP Deputy Chairman, South, Ambassador Taofik Arapaja, hailed the courage of the G5 for standing for equity and justice, saying their action had given hope to Nigerians.

Politics / Wike, Ortom Others Arrive Bauchi To Woo Bala Mohammed by kahal29: 2:56pm On Nov 09, 2022
The G-5 comprising Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers); Samuel Ortom (Benue); Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) has arrived Bauchi, the state capital to lure Governor Bala Mohammed to their camp.

The Nation reports the G5 is trying to capitalise on the perceived rift between Mohammed and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar.

They arrived at the Government House around 12:30 pm without Oyo Governor, Seyi Makinde ,who is also part of the group.

The G-5 has been demanding resignation of the National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, as a condition to support Atiku in 2023.

Mohammed had complained to Ayu that Atiku had sidelined him by refusing to visit him after the presidential primaries, although he visited other aspirants.

The Bauchi Governor, who doubles as vice chairman of the Atiku Campaign Council in the Northeast, also alleged that Atiku picked campaign coordinators from his State without consultation with him.

In his letter to Ayu, Mohammed opened up on how he was hurt by Atiku and demanded an apology.

In his view, Atiku was bent on “punishing him for contesting the presidential primary and not stepping down for him”.

Mohammed’s letter of November 3 to the national chairman forced Ayu to lead a delegation to Bauchi last Saturday to appease him.

Gov Ortom Finally Breaks The Table On PDP Crisis

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGpkS5T1iRo

Benue Governor Samuel Ortom has told the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, to go to hell as he will not support his aspiration owing to continuous killings of Benue people.

Ortom stated this on Sunday night when he hosted the party’s G-5 Governors comprising Nyesom Wike (Rivers); Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia); Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) in Government House, Makurdi.

The Governor, who lamented the killing of 18 people in his LG last week, said: “To hell with Atiku and anyone supporting him. They should go and tell him. You want me to be a slave for a Fulani. It’s better I die. Anybody supporting Atiku is an enemy of Benue.

“My people are being killed and you want me to be quiet. My tenure ends in May and you can do whatever you want if you think you have the powers. I have written my will. When I gave it to my wife, she cried all night. If I die at 62, many of my mates have gone a long time ago and If I die today, I’m a fulfilled person but let it be recorded that I died resisting the invasion and killing of my people.

“I will never support a Fulani man to become president. If there is another person who is ready to work with me and ensure the security of my people, I will work with him.”

Politics / We Cannot Work For Atiku In Benue, Says Ortom by kahal29: 7:15pm On Oct 26, 2022
Benue Governor Samuel Ortom has declared that it would be difficult for stakeholders to work for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar in the State.

Atiku, he said, has neither spoken against killings by herdsmen in the State nor shown any support for the victims.

He said it would be impossible for Benue voters to back such a candidate or for PDP chieftains to market him in the State.

Ortom spoke on Wednesday while addressing Jemgbah Youths Group under the aegis of Jemgbah Youth Support Group JYSG, who came to endorse him for the senate 2023.

He said: ” I condemned what Atiku said. He is seeking to be President of Nigeria and not Fulani alone. So, he must not seek to please Fulani alone, he must work with everyone.

“From the body language of Atiku in Kaduna, he is telling us now that he will come and continue with the killings, carnage and displacement of Benue people as his Fulani tribe is doing. So, we cannot work for that kind of candidate.

“We have been ravaged by flood do you see Atiku visit anyone? The IDPs of 2017. Atiku came here and I suggested to him to visit the camp but he refused. All I did was provide a law to protect my people and have no issue with Fulani a man.”

Ortom commended President Muhammadu Buhari for condemning the killings in Gbeji and asked Atiku to borrow a leave from the President, saying that’s how a leader should speak despite political differences.

He also demanded a public apology from Atiku for allegedly lying against him.

He said at no time did he profile Fulani as killers, saying the killer-herdsmen came from neighbouring countries to wreck havocs in Benue.

The Governor said: “I draw the attention of Atiku via a WhatsApp chat over the comment which he profiled me and Atiku apologised.

” I told him (Atiku) to apologise to do it in public because he made the statement against me in public and what he said was unacceptable to me but he refused.

” You cannot UnCloth an elder in public and dress him in the room so he must apologise in public “

He continued: ” I want to put it on record that at no time I told Atiku that some of my people are stealing my cows. He lied against me and it is unbecoming of a presidential candidate to be telling lies.”

He added: ” I have not profiled Fulani as bad because it would be illogical fallacy to said all Fulani are bad as I’m working with some Fulani while others are my friends, I have not sent any Fulani away from Benue State.

” But there are Fulani coming from Chad, Niger, and Cameroon to occupy our land, it’s unacceptable and I cannot keep quiet”.

He asked Atiku to apologise to Tiv people because he has committed sacrilege against them.

Politics / Atiku’s Presidential Bid Suffers Setback As Ortom, Benue Elders Withdraw Support by kahal29: 4:27am On Oct 26, 2022
The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, on Tuesday, appeared to have withdrawn support for the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

Ortom accused Atiku of denigrating him as governor and working against the interest of the people of Benue.

The Benue State governor seemed to have been angered by Atiku’s comments on the recent killings by suspected herdsmen in his state.

Recall that Atiku appeared to have justified the recent killings in Benue State by Fulani herders when he said that the condemnable acts were due to “sustained clashes between farmers and herders.”

His comments are coming on the heels of the elder statesmen in Benue, Minda Leaders of Thoughts’, withdrawal of support for Atiku, accusing him of hate speech and profiling of Benue people.

However, Governor Ortom accused Atiku of working with Miyetti Allah, a herdsmen group notoriously known for carrying out outrageous killings.

“It was not correct for a presidential candidate who is seeking to rule the people to say that kind of thing.

“It was very wrong. And it would appear that he doesn’t even reference me and consider me to be a Governor of my state,” he said

Politics / Atiku Does Not Deserve Rivers PDP Votes – Wike by kahal29: 6:38pm On Oct 24, 2022
GOVERNOR Nyesom Wike has told presidential candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar not to expect the party in Rivers state to campaign and vote for him in the 2023 elections for perceived disrespect by Atiku towards him and the party in Rivers.

The governor while inaugurating Rivers State PDP Campaign Council in Port Harcourt Monday accused Atiku of picking Rivers members of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council without consulting or accommodating his input and thus undermining the state’s immense electoral value.

He said, “The presidential candidate entered Rivers and picked those he wants to pick without the contribution of the governor. So, they don’t need me to campaign for them, they don’t need Rivers people to campaign for them. Will you force yourself on them?

“I have never seen how people will disrespect a State like Rivers and go choose enemies of the State, without the contribution from us. So, let’s campaign for those who have told us to campaign for them here in the State, the governorship candidate, the senatorial candidates and others.

“Politics is a game of interest. If nobody accommodates interest of Rivers State, then we have nothing to do with such people. If you say you that you have no interest in Rivers, Rivers will not have your own interest. It is only those who like us we will like.

“I have told people who care, Rivers has voted PDP since 1999. Of this support we have given since 1999 till now, can you mention one thing that we have gotten? Can you mention one road we have gotten? All they care is to use to Rivers to bring votes, after brining votes, you push us aside. That will not happen again.”

He stated that PDP in Rivers State has done well for the people, with such feat acknowledged by President Muhammadu Buhari, making it more difficult for any other party to have a chance of winning the election in the State.

The governor said he has released N50Billion to contractors handling ongoing projects to speed up work, assuring that more completed projects will be inaugurated soon in the state.

Chairman of the Rivers PDP Campaign Council, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba said his team has accepted the task before them and determined to give their best in delivering the consolidation team of the New Rivers Vision.

Alabraba assured that the council will deliver all 32 candidates of State House of Assembly, 13 members for House of Representatives, the 3 Senatorial candidates and the gubernatorial candidate in the State.

He noted that the transformation Rivers has witnessed under Governor Wike since 2015 has further endeared the PDP to the people, giving the party a head start above the opposition ahead of the coming elections in the state.

Emeka Ihedioha, a former governor of Imo State has been caught on tape saying there won’t be peace in the state till his successor, Hope Uzodinma, leaves the Government House.

The Supreme Court had on January 14, 2020 installed Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress as the new governor of the state, after declaring him amid controversies as the valid winner of the March 9, 2019 governorship election in the state.

In the audio obtained by SaharaReporters, the former House of Representatives Deputy Speaker was heard vowing to make the state ungovernable for his successor.

“They can leave the government house now, what I'm telling them is that they should leave the government house for peace to reign in the society cause they won’t succeed in doing anything so long that I’m here,” Ihedioha was heard saying in a phone conversation with an indigene of the state.

A check by SaharaReporters on the number using true caller confirmed it belonged to the former Governor.

Governor Uzodinma had in the past blamed the killings recorded in the state on aggrieved politicians, adding that the sponsors of the violence were persons who were unhappy with his achievements after one year in office.

“I pray that God will touch the hearts of these people who are sponsoring the killing of innocent ones, burning houses and destroying public property in the name of politics.

“I have crosschecked since the inception of this mindless blood-letting in Orlu, Orsu and other communities in the zone, not one Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, a person has died, their houses burnt or attacked.

“It is clear to me, therefore, that these killings are the handiwork of politicians who are after the APC members,” Uzodinma had said.

In recent months, there have been attacks on security operatives and government property in Imo.

Ahmed Gulak, a former aide of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, was one of the victims of the attacks.
