For a person to be classed as mentally ill in a murder case, he will have to go through a lot to prove he is mentally ill if both the defense and prosecutor do not agree. Just because you say you are mentally ill does not mean you will walk free and you can have a serious mental illness and not get classed as criminally insane.

From what we can see so far, the guy is schizophrenic. This would have been visible to friends and family members before but they probably "prayed" about it to some god instead of seeking medical help.

I've seen a lot of smart people do a lot of silly things and then blame it on the devil or God. He could say he heard the voice of god in his head that said the wife  was possessed.

How did you come about diagnosing the man with schizophrenia? Is it because it's a big word and sounds fancy? Explain please what symptoms you saw or noticed when you went to diagnose and analyse him.
