The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has begun recruitment and physical screening for about 324,000 applicants who applied for 4,000 jobs in the corps. Corps Marshall Boboye Oyeyemi made the disclosure when he paid a visit to the two screening centres in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday. The centres are the Sani Abacha Barracks, Asokoro and the National Stadium Abuja. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the screening was for various cadres, including Officers, Marshal Inspectorates and Road Marshal Assistants. Oyeyemi said “We are working with about 324, 000 applicants nationwide out of which we have about 105, 000 graduates.” He said those that would be recruited at the end of the exercise “won’t be more than 4,000. “ “Out of the 4,000 slots, 400 is for the officer cadre. “Inspectorate has 1,000 and Road Marshal Assistants, 3,200 slots. “It will be a keenly contested exercise that is why they will go for aptitude test to be conducted by JAMB. “Those being screened from today (Monday) to Tuesday are graduates and you can see their level of discipline. “The exercise started early today and tomorrow nationwide, it will be for the graduates, I believe with the planning put in place, everything is okay. “After the aptitude test, they will go for interview then drug test; then the final screening with the corps marshal,” Oyeyemi said. He commended the smooth conduct of the exercise which he described as having being okay and was not hectic. “There is orderliness. The exercise began since six o’clock in the morning. This shows the level of planning. “The officers conducting the exercise are going by directive of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. “He has given directive that we must ensure the planning is much better than the previous exercises,” he said. Oyeyemi commended the Service Chiefs, Inspector-General of Police and Director-General, and Department of State Services for providing the security. The corps marshal said there were some irregularities during the exercise, including some pregnant female applicants, over-aged applicants, those short in height and married persons. NAN reports that the age limit for the officers’ cadre is 30 while the height limit for females is 1.63m while that of the males is 1.68m. One of the applicants, Mr Solomon Abubakar from Niger who said he had been looking for job since three years, expressed hope that he would to get the job after the screening. Lai Mohammed, minister of information, has said if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were in power, there would be no rerun of elections in Osun state. Yesterday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Osun governorship poll inconclusive and scheduled a rerun for Thursday. PDP’s Candidate Ademola Adeleke, polled 254,699 ahead of Isiaka Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who had 254,345 votes. INEC said the votes which were cancelled amounted to 3,498, which exceeded the difference between the two leading parties. The margin is 353 votes. In a statement today, Mohammed who is chairman of APC campaign council for the Osun election, said in the spirit of “true democracy” the APC did not prevent state institutions from carrying out their duties. The minister described the call of PDP that Adeleke be declared winner of the election as “excessive grandstanding.” He said rather than resort to threats, the PDP could either go to court or decide not to participate in the rerun. “In its time, there would have been no room for a supplementary election in Osun because the PDP would have used state institutions to hijack the election proper, as it did in Ekiti in 2014,” the statement read. “But in its deafening hysteria, the PDP pretends not to understand the real meaning of the outcome of the Osun election – that the ruling APC did nothing to prevent the state institutions that organised the election from carrying out their duties, in the spirit of true democracy. “Local and foreign observers have hailed INEC and the security agencies for a well-organised election. We join them in this commendation. “Our confidence in the ability of the relevant state institutions involved in the Osun election remains unshaken. So also is our belief that every disagreement resulting from the election must be resolved through the democratic process, rather than a resort to threats of fire and brimstone. “Rather then resort to threats, like the PDP is doing now, the APC simply submitted to the democratic process and the supplementary election was peacefully conducted in 91 polling units across 18 of the 21 local governments in the state. Where were these emergency, ready-for-hire analysts then?” Mohammed commended the Osun people for deepening the country’s democracy by “eschewing violence and exercising their franchise in orderly manner.” https://wiki9ja.com.ng/gists/osun2018-if-pdp-were-in-power-there-would-be-no-rerun-election-lai-mohammed

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Onitcha Local Government area of Ebonyi Stat, on Saturday, suspended its party chairman, Mr Uchenna Agwu, for alleged anti-party activities, indiscipline and insubordination. Mr Kenneth Nwali, Onitcha Local Government Secretary of the party, announced this in a statement in Isu, the headquarters of the Council at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting. Mr Ifeanyi Ezeka, the Vice Chairman of the party, was appointed as the acting chairman of the party in the area. Nwali said: “His suspension follows adoption of a motion sponsored by Mr James Okafor, Organising Secretary, urging the local government executive committee of the party to adopt an earlier report submitted by a disciplinary committee set up to look into the allegations. “Executive Committee after a critical study of the report of the disciplinary committee, upheld the report. “Also the chairman‘s refusal to honour series of invitations extended to him by the disciplinary committee to defend himself is a further prove of guilt. “In the light of the above, the vote of no confidence earlier passed on Agwu is hereby sustained and accordingly he is hereby suspended from the party indefinitely. “According to the scribe, the party has taken the decision in the interest of APC to serve as deterrent to others, instil party discipline and loyalty in the area. “APC wishes to assure every member of the party of its support, cooperation and equal opportunities to achieve individual and collective ambitions and the development of democracy. “We reiterate our commitment to the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and other candidates of our great party in the 2019 general elections,” the statement added. https://wiki9ja.com.ng/gists/just-in-apc-suspends-chairman

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Friday said his party was 1000 times better than the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, expressed the view in Lagos while addressing party delegates at the PDP secretariat. Kwankwaso said he was a strong advocate of restructuring, and would speed up the development of the country, if elected president. “ There have been agitations for restructuring in the South West and other parts of the country. “Let me assure you that I am for anything that would promote the country’s progress. “I am for anything that would deliver democratic dividends. I support restructuring and I am going to implement it if elected, ” he said. The aspirant said the All Progressives Congress (APC) had failed in the delivery of its electoral promises to Nigerians. He said the ruling party had not been able to address security and economic challenges, among other problems facing the country. Kwankwaso said the PDP would provide the kind of impactful leadership needed to reposition the country, if elected. He said he had the capacity, experience and passion to turn the country around. On why he left the PDP in 2014 to join the APC, Kwankwaso said he did so because of the problems in PDP then. He said he was back because of the new spirit in the PDP, and that it was the only party that could move the country forward. “When we left the PDP, we thought it was the worst party due to the crisis then. “Now, the party has been repositioned and we are back. “We have since realised that PDP is 1000 times better than the APC. “We are back in the PDP to join forces with our great party men to ensure we defeat the failed APC in 2019,” he said. The aspirant expressed regret that PDP had never won Lagos despite the strategic importance of the state politically. He promised to mobilise his supporters in the Kwankwasiya Movement and others to ensure that the party wins the 2019 governorship election in the state. https://wiki9ja.com.ng/gists/kwankwaso-storms-lagos-says-pdp-1000-times-better-than-apc

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday challenged youths in the country to brace up for political leadership of the country in the years ahead. Osinbajo gave the charge when he received a delegation of Not-Too-Young-To-Run Movement which visited him in Abuja. He said that youths needed to be ready for political offices they intended to occupy, pointing out that leadership positions were not automatic. “It is true that young people are participating in every sphere of the economy and they are doing well, but they ended up there through one process of training or the other. “Just like you have to train before you can become a pilot, so it is for politics. “I think that whatever age a person chooses to run should not matter; what should matter is the preparedness of the person because elective positions require some skills. “Most times people train to acquire other skills but not politics; that’s the way of democracy.’’ Osinbajo said that there was need for youths to move up the ladder of leadership to prepare themselves for politics. http://wepublicisenaija.com/68450/acquire-political-skills-osinbajo-advises-youths/
