Stop getting emotional. Pls quote d law in d US that supports polygamous marriage based on customs and religion. Is that too difficult for u to do? In d screenshot I shared with u, did u see any evidence of ur claim? Or are u saying d authors of d info I shared don't no what they are doing? If u feel Wikipedia is trash, then provide genuine info that negates my "trash". Its that simple. So far, u have nothing.

Its funny how u contradict urself. Check this out:

But u are d one who has always insisted that there are laws in d US that support polygamy based on culture and religion despite d existence of d Morrill Anti-Bigamy Act. What u said now is what I have been telling but here u are saying it. So who is now d foolish one?

There are laws in Nigeria that criminalise all sorts of criminal activities. Does that mean u won't still find people engage in those criminal activities? Relax. U getting urself all worked up

Too many words but ...SMH

Just revisit my questions and spare me your junks. grin You argue blindly!

You don't gerrit, do you?smiley

When u talking about comprehension issues, pls look in d mirror. U keep repeating urself but u have no evidence to support ur claims. Pls quote d law in d US that supports d practice of polygamy based on religious and customary grounds. Its a simple assignment which u have failed over and over again.

If there's a law that supports polygamy in d US based on customs& religion, then that law is a negation of d Morrill Anti-Bigamy Act which as far as I no hasnt been amended. So if there's such a law, quote it. So am not d one who isn't using his brain.

U asked "Are you saying that there are no polygamous families in the US?" U have asked this b4& I answered u. Its like asking if there are no thieves in Nigeria despite d existence of laws that criminalise stealing. That's pedestrian.

Pls look at d screenshot below, once again from Wikipedia. It is quite explicit. Maybe if u don't understand words, pictures will help u resolve this question:
You have asked a foolish question coz how do you expect the body of law that prohibits something, to also enshrine same. Did you read this question to yourself b4 posting? undecided

You are yet to answer my questions but would rather spend time typing too many word without aim.

Now you have shot yasef in the foot, how dare you use the analogy of crime such as theft as comparison to the subject matter - are you okay at all?

You have penchant for arguing blindly - you need to be reminded.

Again, FYI, no one is disputing that polygamy isn't illegal in the US, so put your brain together and stop posting junks from Wikipedia.

Nawa o!

U see that I wasn't wrong after all when I said earlier that u have run out of things to say. Pls what has my "feeling like some el Dorado" got to do with d discussion? Did u want to feel like some el Dorado and u couldn't? Am I d one preventing u from feeling like some el Dorado?

According to u, d US marriage law recognises polygamy based on religion & customary law yet u haven't been able to produce d name of that law. If that law exists, then it is a negation of d Morrill Anti-Bigamy Act which as at today has yet to be amended. I also shared with an excerpt from Wikipedia as at today that categorically and explicitly said that polygamy is illegal in all 50 states of d US. So far u haven't been able to produce any evidence to support your claims
You certainly have a problem with comprehension. I repeat, YES the US marriage law recognises the rights of individuals to marry more than one wife on religious and customary grounds. The only clause is that those exceptions are not sanctioned, that's why multiple licenses cannot be issued to the man (e.g. Muslim ) who chooses to marry more than one wife.

Are people penalised for exercising their rights to marry more than one wife based on religious and customary grounds?

Although illegal, where's the potency of the laws prohibiting polygamy or bigamy in the US.

Are you saying that there are no polygamous families in the US?

Are you saying that people are not allowed to marry more than one wife based on religious and customary grounds?

FYI, no one is disputing that polygamy isn't illegal so biko put your brain together.

Gosh!

Now there's nothing to contest & I guess u just remembered that d thread is about gay & not polygamy. But here u are saying this:

U seem to have run out of things to say. Nobody is contesting whether there are polygamous families or not. D question is whether it is legal or not. But in ur argument, u said d legality of polygamy is contingent on d issuance of marriage licenses. But in d end u couldn't prove where that provision was made for in d Morrill Anti-Bigamy Act.

Also, d thread isn't just about gay issue. It reflects d hypocrisy of d US ambassador & d US govt that criminalises polygamy but at d same criticises African countries for criminalising homosexuality. Whether Americans throw people in jail or not, polygamy is a criminal offense which jail time is attached to. And this is what has discouraged many from practicing it in d US since d 19th century
[/s]

It's clear that you have penchant for arguing blindly. Do you want to dismiss the fact that the US marriage laws recognises the rights of individuals to marry more than one wife based on religious grounds?

You must be feeling like some el Dorado. I repeat, people still marry more than one wife in the US based on religious or customary grounds.

U haven't provided anything. U haven't shown me any law that negates d Morrill Anti-Bigamy Act. If u can't do that, then what exactly are u arguing?

U are talking about "pending court cases". Are "pending court cases" law? Am talking about d fact that d US has laws both at state and federal level that criminalise polygamy, u are talking of pending court cases

U mentioning d state of Utah. Pls look at one of my previous post to you which I quoted from Wikipedia.

Did u see where Utah was exempted? Or does d US have more than 50 states?
There's nothing to contest as I have made clear the state of affairs with regards to polygamy in the US. Polygamy is illegal in the US, also there are polygamous families in the US as well and it's not reported that people are thrown into jail for it except for those who do it for fraudulent purposes.

Now, this is a thread about Gay issue and NOT polygamy so let's not derail ok. smiley

If u had done ur research, u should have confidently showed me d law that contradicts d info I shared. If u had done ur research u would have by now come across d Morrill Anti-Bigamy Act. That should help u clarify your doubts.

NB: am not sure what u mean by "there are intelligent people on NL-so that you aware" and what it has got to do with d discussion
The state of Utah is a case study for you. Learn to be more rational in your approach to sensitive matters, just as I have presented you with a side of the argument that coz it's illegal doesn't mean it's not happening or known to be happening.

There are still pending court cases in the US testing the legality of laws prohibiting polygamy, checking if they do not already infringe on individual liberty in modern day US.

This is from Wikipedia as at this morning:

United States: Polygamy is illegal in all 50 states[93] as well as federally according to the Edmunds Act. From about 1847 to 1857, in what is now the state of Utah, many Mormons practiced polygamy, which was widely condemned in the rest of the US. The US federal government threatened The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and made polygamy illegal through the enforcement of Acts of Congress such as the Morrill Anti-Bigamy Act.

It has nothing to do with issuing single or multiple licenses. U are being selective with d truth
You have only quoted the section of that article that suits/supports your argument grin, you need to go back and research extensively then come back here to submit the rest of the case for polygamy in the US.

FYI, there are intelligent people on NL - so that you are aware. grin

Does that mean that polygamy is legal in d US?
Polygamy in the US is illegal in the sense that once you are lawfully wedded to your wife, you are strictly prohibited from marrying another one lawfully. The US marriage law doesn't permit the issuance of multiple marriage licences.

Some of the Muslims in the US often marry more than one wives, and we can even argue about the Mormon worshippers...
