"Power must therefore be devolved to the regions. I propose five new regions: Sharia North; Yoruba West; Igbo East, Niger Delta; and Middle Belt. Each region must be allowed to develop in accordance with its own cultural and ethno-religious mindset. The federal centre should focus mainly on national defence, foreign policy, customs and monetary economics." - Obadiah Mailafia |

Adamawa Taraba Plateau Nasarawa Niger Benue FCT Northern Kwara Central and Eastern Kogi Southern Kebbi Southern Kaduna Southern Bauchi Southern Gombe These areas are Middle Belt areas. They are the areas in the old Northern Region made up of non-Hausa, Fulani and Kanuri ethnic minorities. Religion should not be used to confuse people. And not everyone in the Middle Belt speaks Hausa as a second language. For 60 years and even more, the Far North has insisted on lumping themselves with them for political advantage but without any benefits to them. The identification of this region as a unique Central Region will go a long way to bring political stability to the entire country |
I am not an expert, but I believe for proper taxation, a society needs to be very well organized and structured. Proper town planning, registration of homes and businesses with streamlined processes and proper approvals, etc. Maybe the coming of BVN and NIMC (if properly reformed and implemented) will kick start a proper tax process. Until then, most businesses contributing to GDP will remain informal and untaxable. In any case, government transparency and positive use of revenue at all levels should give citizens more confidence to participate in the formal sector. |
1. THE CORE-NORTHERN MUSLIM 2. THE YORUBA 3. THE SOUTHEAST IGBO 4. THE '2ND LANGUAGE HAUSA SPEAKING' CHRISTIANS OF THE UPPER MIDDLEBELT AND CORE-NORTH 5. THE WESTERN NIGER-DELTANS OR WESTERN SOUTHERN MINORITIES 6. THE CHRISTIANS FROM TRIBES OF THE LOWER MIDDLEBELT Great job Nowenuse. Awaiting the other four groups... Keep going |
wildernessVoice:Bassa is an ethnic group of Kogi State |
Chepos1:The author has chosen not to list Agatu separately. Listing of ethnic groups, tribes and languages can be quite subjective |
Chepos1:There is Idoma and Etulo on the list. Agatu is regarded as Northern Idoma. Utonkon people are called Ufia |
Yuneehk:Check for Angas |
slivertongue:Check for Ganawuri |

Patrioticooduan:Even if disintegration is the final solution, it will be difficult going straight from where we are to full disintegration |
Nigeria's unity is negotiable Power needs to be devolved to subnational units These units should be regions, not the current states If you go on social media today, the default setting is that Hausa/Fulani/Kanuri and Yoruba (especially Muslim) are for APC and Buhari Igbo and Niger Delta are for PDP and anti-Buhari, allowing them to support even dodgy characters like Saraki Middle Belt are somewhere undefined in between but in their defence, they have been heavily oppressed and undermined by the Far North These 5 regional blocks should form the regions that should receive autonomy and devolved powers to govern Nigeria Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Kaduna could be special cities or territories governed by the Federal Government and should be symbolic as centers of Unity If the regions prefer, after 20 years or a period jointly decided, they may form separate countries (full secession) This will allow for proper internal organization of each region in case they have to go alone. The countries from USSR and Yugoslavia were subnational republics for a long time before independence Economic advantages should not be used to unite a country if we keep sacrificing innocent human beings including infants and foetuses!! What is happening in Nigeria today is completely unacceptable |
Damysa:Do not limit yourself to those you do not trust. There are other people around you can speak with. |
Damysa:Try to speak with someone, even if the person is not close by |
JamaicanLove:Some of us care. Try to speak with someone, even if in an anonymous capacity. Life's problems, regardless of their nature, can be overcome by support in many ways from those around you and even those far off |

Non-Yoruba KwaraMiddle Belters, are we still sleeping? We must face the reality or be extinguished forever! We hold the key to the making or marring of Nigeria |
Amberon11:The federating units should be regions, not states. Anioma and Gurara should be created to separate minority groups from more populous groups. After that, all states will decide which region they want to belong to and then the different regions can create as many more states as they would like. Then there can be an Urhobo State under a Niger Delta region |
dabeto:No, Kaduna State |
Only 2 states need to be created in Nigeria, Gurara and Anioma. The other political restructuring should be boundary adjustments and creation of regions which would be autonomous groups of states with most fiscal and infrastructure development powers devolved to them by the federal government |
nowpresence:Yes, the Delta Edoid languages are in the Edo family. Same with Epie in Bayelsa. The speakers of these languages claim to understand Bini |
nowpresence:Central Delta: Abua, Odua Delta Edo: Engenni, Degema |
Hi Londonstreetboy. It's never too late while there's life. However, the lives are been lost very fast. Nigeria has never truly negotiated it's philosophy of nationhood as it affects the various peoples and that is what is resulting in our current state This thread was an attempt to identify those who may identify as Middle Belt peoples. It does not look like there are many who are deeply passionate about it. For this reason, it is easy to be isolated and oppressed while others look on, uninterested. Unfortunately, political influence in Nigeria is viewed as 3 Southern zones plus one large Northern zone. Hence, the MB voice is subdued With respect to Southern Kaduna, there is no common voice of Middle Belt people fighting it. Only SOKAPU is doing an isolated resistance. Same thing happened with Agatu I pray the Middle Belt wakes up before it is too late |
This is quite inspirational. Please, remain who you are by God's grace. In a country where most of us seem to have sold our souls, you are an oasis of hope in a sea of despair I am inspired not only by your heart of conscience, but the thoroughness with which you went through all the official procedures. All the police and hospital staff you met on your journey have a seed sown in them, even if they do not show an immediate positive response God bless you and yours... |

The UK model would be the best for Nigeria. The different countries can even have different levels of autonomy, including opting to secede like Republic of Ireland Nations like the Igbo and Yoruba are large enough to be on their own. Referendums can be done to determine the boundaries of the 5 regions I have been an advocate of this proposal for many years and nothing I have seen so far is yet to change my mind I was truly shocked that the last national conference rejected regionalism and even proposed to create an additional 18 states |
