Gbawe: I think we need to create an informative contrast that puts the failure of GEJ to deliver on these empty promises into perspective.

We should talk about very unpopular policies and decisions he delivered ,after being sworn in , he conveniently failed to tell Nigerians of while seeking votes.

(1) The immediate disbanding of the PAC (Presidential advisory committee) with the very offensive and disappointing announcement that "leaner Government no possible".

(2) The obdurate and "no going back" pursuit of a change of electoral law to facilitate a single 6-7 tenure for elective offices.

(3) Instructing the home of grand corruption (the NNPC) to take over the rehabilitation of our refinerires over a 24 months period.

(4) full fuel subsidy removal .

Abeg, forumers feel free to add more. The substantive point is that it is clear our President is very treacherous and decietful. Zero delivery of things he promised and a wicked pursuit of unpopular, pro-elite and anti-people policies, that would have buried GEJ had he announced them before the elections, are all signs of deciet and a disregard for what is good for ordinary Nigerians.

Is it now not obvious why all the AGIPs and those who have ruined Nigeria, over decades, queued behind GEJ religiously? They recognizied the 'qualities' they needed in a champion for their 'cause'.
just like ur oga promised that lagos light rail would be ready in june and the lekki international airport would be ready last year. CrimeImo Police Arrest OCDA Boss For Alleged Involvement In Criminal Activities by karlmax2(op): 6:30pm On Nov 07, 2013
The Imo State Police Command has arrested the General Manager of Owerri Capital Development Authority, OCDA, Mr. Iheanyi Abaekwume for his alleged involvement in criminal activities.

In a statement signed by the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Joy Elemoko, she said the government official was arrested at his residence in Aladinma area of Owerri in the early hours of Thursday.

She added that during the police search at his residence, some prohibited items were recovered in his house. She also claimed that the police acted on the various petitions that were submitted to the command, demanding that the police investigate the OCDA boss for some crime related activities in the state.

Mrs Joy Elemoko maintained that in the meantime, the OCDA boss is still remanded in police custody until proper investigations are conducted and concluded.

The police command however reiterated its commitment to arrest anybody either highly placed or ordinary person involved in any act of crime in the state.

Reacting to the arrest, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo said the arrest of the OCDA boss is condemnable and unacceptable.

He explained  that the police have the right to arrest somebody when they think he has breached the law but it must be done with civility. He said the OCDA boss is an agent of the State Government and the police was expected to put that into consideration stressing that the Imo State Police Command has been enjoying good relationship with the State Government and it is the wish of the government that such understanding should remain.

Owerri Capital Development Agency, OCDA, is a state agency saddled with the responsibility of redesigning and maintaining the master plan of Owerri, the Imo State capital city.

PoliticsNorthern Group Asks Jonathan To Postpone Gates’ Visit by karlmax2(op): 9:04am On Nov 04, 2013
By Tobi Soniyi

To avoid a repeat of the event which resulted in deadly attacks on polio immunisation health workers in Kano early this year, a northern group has called on president Goodluck Jonathan to put on hold the planned visit of polio eradication advocate, Bill Gates to Nigeria.
The group, Arewa Coalition for Save The Child Initiative, in a petition to the president expressed fears that the intended publicity and fanfare that would be accorded the visit of Bill Gates would endanger the lives of more polio workers in the north.

Co-ordinator of the coalition, Mohammed Dahiru, argued in the petition that though, the planned visit was with good intention,  the timing was wrong, and therefore, urged the president to “cancel this visit because it may heighten tension and create fear amongst the administrators of the vaccines on children.”
The petition stated: “You would recall that in February this year, ten health workers on polio immunisation round were shot dead in Kano while three were killed in Borno State. The dreaded Boko Haram sect issued a statement claiming and justifying this irresponsible act.

“Subsequently the exercise was suspended for one month. This reversed the drive, gains and successes recorded in previous years. It was a major setback. Besides, Boko Haram, in claiming responsibility for the attack on the revered Emir of Kano also cited, among other reasons, his support for immunization of children in his emirate. Thank Almighty Allah, the monarch survived.

“Thereafter, Borno and Yobe states have witnessed attacks on schools and the killing of children therein, highway ambush and massive killings, isolated but deadly attacks on villages and border settlements. There are volumes of cases though the security forces have tried to contain and repel some.
“All these have ripple effects on immunisation and the eradication of polio in the country.
“The emerging scenario now calls for a change of tactics. And this is where we differ on the planned visit of Bill Gates to Nigeria.”

PoliticsLamido: I Will Not Leave PDP For APC by karlmax2(op): 8:41am On Nov 04, 2013
•Says party’s disciplinary committee an aberration
•Splinter group: We support talks with opposition

BY Chuks Okocha, Onyebuchi Ezigbo,  Shola Oyeyipo and Ibrahim Shuaibu

One of the aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has stated that he will not be leaving the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

Lamido, who spoke with journalists at the government house, Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, also described the recent appointment of Alhaji Umaru Dikko as chairman of the disciplinary committee set up by the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, as an aberration.

Lamido, who was responding to rising speculation that he alongside six of his colleagues who broke away from the PDP, was ready to jump ship, said the crisis in the ruling party has a history, which has been identified, and that there were ongoing meetings to resolve the issues.

He said: “The crisis has a history which we identified and which we listed as our resolution and on which we are meeting. So, obviously, if all the issues are met, we won't have any moral authority to fight again, because the fight is based on principle.”

He said it is the desire of the G7 governors to remain in the PDP, stating: “It is our desire to ensure that we remain in the winning party. There are changing dynamics, but in spite of everything, we gave conditions and these conditions are on issues bordering on the party's interest, not on an individual’s interest.

“The PDP is a family, a collection of a number of interests all over the country. There are a number of interests begging for attention more than APC coming to see me or any other persons.”
Lamido expressed optimism that there was hope for the PDP crisis to be resolved in the long run. He said every demand by the New PDP governors had been acceded to and that it was only the implementation that had not been effected.

“When we met for the second time, in principle, all the demands were acceded to. First was the restoration of the Adamawa party structures; second was the recall of (Governor Chibuike) Amaechi and give him back his structures; third was the sack of Bamanga Tukur; fourth was to convene a new convention where the election of new officials can take place and ensure that the officials who were shut out are allowed to participate,” he disclosed.

He said he had no regrets supporting President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2011 election and that he would remain loyal to the president between May 29, 2011 and May 28, 2015 “because it is something I worked for before May 28, 2015.”

According to him, his next line of action would only be determined after exhausting all avenues for a peaceful resolution of the crisis in the PDP, adding: “So when these issues are determined either way, it is from there that we would decide what next to do.”

On the disciplinary committee set up by Tukur, Lamido said the concept of the committee was ill-conceived and failed to give recognition to the contributions of the G7 governors to the successes recorded by the party in recent times.

“That is an aberration, when you are talking about discipline, you are taking about people who are part of a party, who know the party culture and would be able to understand the breaches, see in the course of the offences so committed, and ascertain what is wrong.

“Dikko was not part of the PDP. He is a personal friend of Tukur and also a good brother to me, because he has been coming here. So you could see that the approach is so laughable.

“When you set up a committee to discipline a governor of the PDP, Dikko has no idea how that governor was elected. He has no idea of the sacrifices the governor made. He needs to have some understanding of the circumstances by which things occurred. So by the time he wants to make a judgment, he can be just and fair.

“But now that Tukur is aggrieved, he is the principal problem of the entire crisis and yet he is creating a committee to discipline people, it does not make sense,” Lamido said.

He traced the root cause of the party’s crisis to people who he said had hijacked the party by singing the praise of the president without adequate knowledge of party politics.
He observed that the party is being run by those who want to prove they are loyal to Jonathan, noting that it is now a huge contest to deal with the PDP.

“There are people who have no input in making the president, who are now brought on board - those post-election characters have to prove they are loyal to him. Therefore they must be sycophantic, they must bootlick and they must praise him. They must say he is the best human being on earth.
“But in my case, my proof is him (Jonathan). He knows more than anybody what I was to him, so I can’t be competing with people like Okupe, Abati, Tukur, Gulak and people who were just brought on board,” he said.

Despite Lamido’s decision to remain with the PDP insofar as the grievances of the G7 governors are met, APC officials informed THISDAY at the weekend that its leaders and the New PDP governors might have reached an understanding to work together towards winning the 2015 general election.

The understanding between the opposition party and the seven governors, THISDAY learnt, may have informed the intensive lobbying by the APC leaders with a view to ironing out details of what form the accord between the two groups would take.

While some of the APC leaders and the governors prefer an outright defection by the aggrieved members of the splinter group in the PDP to the opposition party, others are more cautious.
It was learnt that it was in a bid to help the governors make up their minds that the APC leaders have been visiting them to lobby them to cross over to their fold.

So far, the APC leaders, including Senator Bola Tinubu, Major General Muhammadu Buhari and the party's interim National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, have visited Kano State Governor, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso; and his counterparts in Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido; and Adamawa State, Alhaji Murtala Nyako, to woo them to the opposition camp.

The lobby train will stop today in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, where the APC leaders are expected to hold talks with Amaechi.

From Rivers State, the APC train will move to Niger State for talks with the governor, Dr. Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu.

The talks with the APC yesterday received the formal endorsement of the New PDP, which declared that the seven aggrieved governors, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the splinter group's National Chairman, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, were more comfortable in the opposition camp.

But as the APC intensified efforts to poach its governors, the PDP also yesterday restated its confidence in Tukur.

Prior to the latest lobby by APC, both sides had mulled over the idea of working together towards the 2015 general election, but the seven governors were undecided as to whether to leave the PDP or not.

However, the move to concretise the union between the governors and APC gathered momentum in the last few days, thus fuelling speculations that a formal agreement would soon be reached.
A chieftain of APC and a member of the dissolved APC merger committee, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, told THISDAY yesterday on the phone that a preliminary agreement was struck between the party and the splinter PDP group at the meeting with APC leaders in Sokoto State last week.

He said the governors were conscious of the old adage that a reconciled political enemy is never a friend to be trusted and took the right step to approach the APC.

He explained that after reaching the initial agreement, APC decided that it was necessary to meet with the governors individually so as discuss other details about the merger of party structures in their respective areas.

“There is a jigsaw puzzle to be resolved on how to carve out the terms of engagement with the governors, based on their individual potential. For instance, there is no way the same concessions extended to governors of Rivers, Sokoto, Jigawa and Kano can be offered the other three governors of Kwara, Adamawa and Niger States,” he said.

THISDAY gathered that following the negotiations with the governors, APC has scheduled a meeting of its National Working Committee (NWC) for Thursday where the appointment of the party's harmonisation committees will be ratified.

It was learnt that the NWC meeting would be preceded by a dinner to be attended by all the APC governors and associates as part of moves to shore up support for the party’s governorship candidate in the Anambra gubernatorial election, Dr. Chris Ngige.

Also to be considered at the meeting is the date for the commencement of the nationwide membership registration drive.

On the romancing of its governors by APC, the New PDP said yesterday that its leaders were comfortable with the talks.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, the breakaway PDP said it felt “comfortable in the company of APC since we share the same goal of rescuing our dear country, Nigeria, from the edge of the precipice and putting her firmly on the path of sustainable development.”

“The presence of APC and PDP leaders in large numbers at the Sokoto State University inauguration is a positive development which raises hope for our fledgling democracy. It is a good example of politics of tolerance and cooperation which we consider necessary if the country is to experience peace and tranquillity, without which there could be no development,” it added.

“The APC leaders have since then intensified the lobby for a marriage between both parties, even visiting some of our governors to directly invite them to join their party.

“All these visits to our state governors simply demonstrate our new status in the politics of Nigeria as the new bride of Nigerian politics and we hope to play the role as expected of us as we hold the key to Aso Rock come 2015," he added.
On what the romance between the two parties portends, the New PDP said while some Nigerians had interpreted this to mean that a political marriage might be imminent between the New PDP and APC, it added, “nothing is impossible in politics.”

It however said: “It is necessary to state that we have not at this point closed the door on the on-going negotiations between us and President Goodluck Jonathan.”

But in reaction to the flirtations between its governors and the APC, the mainstream PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh, said the party was solidly behind Tukur in his efforts to continue steering the affairs of the party.

“Alhaji Tukur as a founding father of the party, is a bridge between the original ideals of the formation of the party and its contemporary existence.

“His understanding that the PDP is a broad-based coalition that exists to cement the bonds of national unity is the reason he is very accommodating of all views no matter how they may be personally inconveniencing to him,” it added.

PoliticsAPC Moves To Build Grand Coalition Of Old, Current Govs by karlmax2(op): 1:24am On Nov 04, 2013
• PDP cries foul as opposition heads for Rivers on Monday
Our Correspondents

The All Progressives Congress is moving to build a mega coalition of former and serving state governors as a political bulwark in its quest to wrest power from the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015, THISDAY has learnt.

The party is said to be talking to all the governors from 1999, when one of the national leaders, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, was governor, to date in a bid to persuade them to join the coalition.
Those being invited include former governors Obong Victor Attah (Akwa Ibom), Lucky Igbinedion (Edo), and Donald Duke (Cross River).

Former governors Attahiru Bafarawa (Sokoto), George Akume (Benue), Abubakar Audu (Kogi) and Ahmed Sani Yerima (Zamfara) among others, are already in APC.

One of the old governors, who confirmed the move by APC, said even though he had not joined, he had been invited by the party and was giving it a thought.

Another former governor said they had been there in PDP all along but the party did not recognise them.
APC has written the governors formally to invite them to the party.
THISDAY gathered that the attempt to bring the new and old governors on board was the reason APC had not commenced its membership registration.

Leaders of the party want to conclude the planned alignments before the membership registration so that all the new entrants, including the seven PDP governors – G7 – in the breakaway faction of the party led by Abubakar Baraje, would be equal joinders and founders.

Meanwhile, in continuation of its effort to court the G7 governors, APC leaders will tomorrow visit Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, to formally request the governor, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, to join the party.
THISDAY gathered that part of the proposals the APC leaders would put on the table during their discussion with Amaechi is the party’s willingness to allow a review of its constitution and manifesto to accommodate the interests of the expected new entrants. The review is a critical part of the negotiations to try to bring the G7 governors and other members of the PDP splinter group, New Peoples Democratic Party, on board.

But the Presidency and PDP at the weekend protested the APC persuasion drive, which was set in train last week with visits to some of the G7 governors by General Mahammadu Buhari, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and APC interim national chairman Bisi Akande, and other APC leaders. They alleged that the move by APC was tantamount to a commencement of electioneering for the 2015 general elections outside the legal timeframe set in the Electoral Act.

Political Adviser to the President Ahmed Gulak and Deputy National Publicity Secretary of PDP Abdullahi Jalo, who raised the concerns, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to sanction APC for breaking the rule on the timing of election campaigns.

This was, however, as hints emerged from the National Assembly that the 57 members of the House of Representatives, who had identified with the Baraje-led New PDP, might have concluded plans to defect to APC any moment.  THISDAY learnt that as a prelude to the imminent defection, the Progressive Governors’ Forum, which consists of governors of the 10 APC states, would be organising a special dinner this week to interact with the intending converts to the opposition coalition.

To make room for the G7 governors and other New PDP supporters, APC has expressed a willingness to review its constitution, which currently provides for a 35-member interim management committee, with each of the three major parties in the coalition – Action Congress of Nigeria, Congress for Progress Change, and All Nigeria Peoples Party – as well as the factions from All Progressives Grand Alliance and Democratic Peoples Party contributing a specified number of officers.

A top APC member told THISDAY yesterday in Abuja that the party's delegation would continue its consultations with a visit to Amaechi on Monday, after which the team would visit Minna, the Niger State capital, for a similar discussion with Governor Babangida Aliyu. He said the APC leaders planned to round off their tour with another trip to Sokoto to concretise issues with the state governor, Aliyu Wamako.

Besides Amaechi, Aliyu, and Wamakko, the other four governors in the G7 are Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, Adamawa State Governor Murtala Nyako, Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, and Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The APC team had in the last one week visited Kwankwaso, Lamido, Wamakko, and Nyako.
“We have carried the battle straight to the PDP National Chairman's home state in Adamawa and we are following it up with a visit to Governor Rotimi Amaechi in Port Harcourt on Monday,” the APC source said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the issue.
He dismissed as insincere an alleged last minute effort by the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan’s men to reach out to Amaechi.

According to him, “If Amaechi had been the governor of Bayelsa, the president's home state, we will still have gone there to woo him. Being from the president's region is absolutely irrelevant. What is important is that Amaechi has consistently cried out that he was being suffocated by the Presidency.
“If anybody is even more aggrieved, I think it is Governor Amaechi and we are very hopeful that he will listen to our sympathetic request for him to come over and join our party.  Governor Amaechi is a very intelligent and resourceful man. I think he can take a decision and know which option is in his own best interest.”

On why APC elected to meet with the G7 governors individually, the source said it was a mark of respect for the governors and an opportunity to meet them with their supporters.

He said the APC team had been warmly received in all the states they had visited, saying the merger party hopes to concretise its deal with the intending entrants from PDP before the commencement of APC’s membership registration exercise so that the new members could partake in the exercise.
But Gulak said in an interview with THISDAY, “What the APC is doing by going to our governors in Jigawa, Kano and Adamawa states is nothing but the commencement of campaigns, which is certainly against the letters of the Electoral Act.

“We are not restricting movement of political parties, but it is wrong for the APC to be going from state to state, trying to poach our governors. This is campaigns, if it is not campaigns, then tell me what it is? The Electoral Act is clear on when the campaigns are expected to commence. What the APC is doing is simply overheating the system ahead of the commencement of campaigns.

“We expect INEC to call them to order and as well sanction them because of other political parties that may be emulating them. The campaigns for the 2015 general elections have not started and one of the political parties is jumping the gun.”

In the same vein, Jalo said, “If it is the president or the PDP that is doing what the APC is doing, Nigerians and the media would be complaining. INEC has not authorised the commencement of campaigns, but look at what the APC is doing.

“INEC, going by the Electoral Act, is the only body that would authorise the beginning of campaigns for the 2015 general elections. INEC has not given the green light for campaigns and the APC is jumping the gun. It is not that the PDP is afraid to kick off its campaign, but as the ruling party, we stand by the law and, therefore, would not do anything that would breach the law or overheat the polity, as APC is doing.
“INEC is the electoral umpire and, therefore, Nigerians are watching what it will do. PDP is by this calling on INEC to call the APC to order.”

The PDP spokesman accused APC of lacking originality in terms of ideology, saying, “If the APC is as good as it claims, why don’t they produce their own champions (instead of poaching) by trying to take already made champions. They are like a bird that cannot produce its own egg, but would claim eggs belonging to other birds.”

He said PDP was not keen on taking the dissenting governors before the party’s disciplinary committee headed by Umaru Dikko to avoid aiding their alleged plot to create crisis in PDP. “They are merely grandstanding because they know that there is no crisis within the PDP. At least the courts and INEC have said that,” Jalo said.

Meanwhile, THISDAY learnt at the weekend that a dinner which APC planned to hold in Abuja for the G57 lawmakers was designed to help the opposition party harvest from the fracture in the ruling PDP to    solidify the  opposition structure in the National Assembly.

APC also intends to use the occasion to shore up support for Dr. Chris Ngige, the APC candidate in the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State.

Kwankwaso, Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, and Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State are expected to give talks at the dinner, which is expected to be attended by Aliyu, Wamako, Nyako, and Amaechi.

A source close to the PGF disclosed that all the 57 House members had received their invitation cards for the “special dinner.” It could not be confirmed if the 22 senators, who had also in September declared support for the Baraje faction, would be at the event.

How much was spent. For tinubu's mother's own .and fashola's fathers own or is it when it come to GeJ fake figures would be thrown about on the pages of newspaper.at least primary schools and markets were not shotdown unlike when tinubus daugther was crowned iya oloja. Sahara reporters got all the invoices and receipt to calculate how much was spent or they hired an auditor that audited the amount used for the burial or better still they were there monitoring and calculating how much was spent because they are part of PEJ's family.
So when I say all of APC's failures in Lagos are the fault of PDP your response is to list those failures instead of asking me how it is PDP's fault? I will put this question to you though: Do you know as a matter of fact whether all the funds provided by the federal government to the states are sufficient for all of their responsibilities? If not then this is wanton criticism.

In your honest opinion will it help Nigeria in any way if a few members of the national assembly decide to wave their right to a salary? Do you believe for a second that someone else won't just put it in their pocket? Also, just in case it escaped you APC members of the national assembly cannot pass a motion on their own, they are after all just a minority part of the whole.

PDP did not write the constitution but there are provisions to amend or replace it, if PDP supported a change to the constitution over the last 10 years it would have been so by now. If your argument is that PDP cannot do it then we are screwed, something that they would still have had to work to fix so this is not an excuse.

AGAIN I WILL REPEAT, I AM NOT DEFENDING APC, STOP BRINGING APC INTO THIS. THIS IS ABOUT PDP, THEY ARE SUDDENLY MAKING EXCUSES, BLAMING SOMEONE ELSE FOR THEIR FAILURES. Claiming they are out to sabotage them MY ARGUMENT IS, THESE SABOTEURS HAVE ONLY EXISTED SINCE FEBRUARY (8 MONTHS) WHAT WAS THE REASON FOR PDP's FAILURES ALL THE 12-13 YEARS BEFORE THAT. UNLESS YOU PDP FANS CAN GIVE A GOOD EXPLANATION FOR THAT, ALL OF THIS IS GARBAGE. This is not whether APC is just as bad as PDP or not, it is about those PDP snakes suddenly thinking we are stupid and will fall for their, "it is so-so and so's fault that we have failed you". Bullsh!t.
how logical blaming pdp for the failure of apc !! I ask u again did PDP write nigeria constitution. Instead of ur so called progressives to pass bills that would correct these problem u keep harping about!! they are busy raising. A motion to support child marriage (sentor yerima APC) and ur trying to make me believe that PDP is the cause of my local government in lagos not having a public health care center that the land was converted by tinubu and his gang of land grabbers.
In Nigeria all states are bound to fail under the current system so you cannot blame any state governor for not turning his state into a modern day Dubai. If any state attempts to become productive our stupid federal allocation system will collect a massive chunk of the profits and share it with everybody else, preventing any growth from being sustained. Basically, under our current system, Nigeria is going nowhere, this system can only be changed by the federal government which is why PDP is directly responsible for the failure of every political party, public service and government project in Nigeria, they run the branch of government will all the power, the same one that is tying us down and the only one in any position to do anything about our predicament.
so PDP made the constitution?. why have the members of the apc in the house of assembly not pass a motion to reduce the amount they collect as salary or refuse to collect the amount to show them as serious people? What have the states done with their allocation and borrowed loans in the case of lagos state that has the highest dept out of the 36 states.don't forget that the governors also collects allocation on behalf of local government....the question I ask have they been able to meet up resposibilities given to them by the constitution like provision of basic amenities like water, primary education, primary health care etc. In eti osa here where I live there are no public health care located in the whole area apart from private hospitals. After 14years of AC- ACN- APC rule, instead the area made available for its construction by jakande has been coverted into an estate by tinubu and his cronies.
PDP has not done anything productive in Nigeria over the last 14 years, it stands to reason that APC do not need to sabotage them, there has been nothing to sabotage up till now anyway. Now PDP just have someone to blame for failing to do its job.
and what has APC done in lagos the past 14years apart from fraudulent concessions and spending money for media hype.
