Hmmm. The bolded might be correct but I think it's more about (ab)use of terminology.
IMO, most of the discussants were actually referring to the total cost of acquisition (rights + equity)...
Omooloriredade: Jeez!!! I have been trying to ignore the discussions on Chams RI for days now but mehn! The ignorance here can be mind-boggling. The problem is that some have not taken time to understand the workings of the market. For example.....
That individual who bid 1k for 10m units is a proper dealer...
Omooloriredade: Jeez!!! I have been trying to ignore the discussions on Chams RI for days now but mehn! The ignorance here can be mind-boggling. The problem is that some have not taken time to understand the workings of the market. For example....Who are the stakeholders? What does one entity do? You see people will have an issue with the Registrar or CSCS and be blaming Broker ...haha
Selling your Rights means relinquishing your exclusive right to buy shares of Chams at the offer price of N1.70 as an existing shareholder.
If you trade your Rights, you simply sold your "right" or "priviledge". No shares are involved. Buyer now needs to pay the N1.70 offer price having acquired your Rights.
Eg It will cost Iya N1 + N1.70 = N2.70 to acquire shares in Chams.
I assume Iya thinks the SP on the NGX will be well north of N2.70 by the time the offer closes otherwise, Iya might not know what they are doing either. Apologies if you find this insulting.
Those pricing the Rights at N2 or talking about selling their rights at same price clearly have no clue either. There is a reason investors that know what they are doing are not bidding to buy at that price on the floor......the bid on the heads (main shares) not withstanding.
Ideally, if you are an existing shareholder and you'd like to hold for medium to long term but don't intend to take up your rights, you should absolutely be selling the equivalent quantity of shares you qualify for on the floor. Part of the proceeds can then be used to take up your rights. Your holding remains the same with some spare change.
The scenario above changes if you are trading Chams or whatever other strategies you might have.

Capitas7: I won't dispute your projection, but I think there's a common trend whereby blue chip companies buy up innovative companies in their sectors. Like pharmaceutical companies buying up biotech startups, giant tech companies buying innovative startups with excellent products, oil and gas big players buying up distribution/marketing networks. It is one of the advantages of good free cash flow which these leading banks have in abundance.
Fintech is the bride of the day, but when heavy regulations start diminishing their profits, their core investors will not think twice before selling to the leading banks. Alternatively, big cap banks will create their own fintech products to compete in the space. Cashapp and others come to mind. Apple, Samsung etc. buy up tech companies/products to remain sector leaders.
UCAP for instance, launched its microfinance arm because it has the weight. That's a strategic disruption too. How long before Access buys up all the Fintechs in Nigeria?
emmanuelewumi: You guys are funny sha comparing N2 billion worth of GTB shares that is quoted on NGX and London Stock Exchange that gave a dividend of N180 million in 2024 with a property of N500 million that will probably struggled. to generate a rental income of N30 million per annum
If you said a bank will prefer a N500 million property to N2 billion worth of Ellah Lakes shares, I will agree with you
I'm trying to fully grasp the basis of this Gold Reform Bill we have the Petroleum Industry Act (2021) for oil and gas and Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act (2007) for solid minerals.
Section 44(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) states: "The entire property in and control of all minerals, mineral oils and natural gas in, under or upon any land in Nigeria... shall vest in the Government of the Federation..."
The FG, through the Nigerian Mining Cadastre Office, grants license to companies/bodies to mine/extract these solid minerals.
Just like NNPCL cannot unilaterally extract the crude/gas, so also the FG cannot mine solid minerals without collaboration...
faoogoke: The Federal Government has sought to acquire all lands with deposits of gold from State governments and private individuals.
The bill, titled ‘Gold Reform Bill’, sponsored by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has since passed a Second Reading although its public hearing has been suspended indefinitely.
One of the clauses of the bill seeks to grant the government exclusive rights over all gold resources in the country, enhancing regulatory oversight and promoting responsible exploitation of Nigeria’s gold reserves.
The bill stated that the entire property in and control of gold, under or upon any land in Nigeria, shall be vested in the government of the federation for and on behalf of the people of Nigeria.
Think again your position. It may not gilter for Japaul
Umehj88: All of una agree for the mill now cause e favour una. Nobody talk Photoshop ooo for this one. But when I posted their head office nah Photoshop or nah fake. Make una they fear God
Regarding the bolded, there will definitely be more re capitalization of the current companies.
These current levels are drastically low...
Stockhunter: Loco loco... I understand that feeling of wanting to be right after you have sold to say yes!! My instinct was right. But this one pass you. If there was a day it could have done that, it should have been yesterday.. sit this one out as you don jump comot.. like our oga said premature ejaculation is real...
If this bill is religiously implemented Insurance sector will match banks if not bigger than banks in due time. Do you know what it means for all public buildings to get compualory insurance in nigeria. Do you know what it means for buildings under construction to get compualory insurance... This is just part of it... This is bigger than you.. watch the insurance in the next 5 years and see..
mikeapollo: Please they should ask Wale to confirm if the share redistribution will be completed before the issuance of the 10billion new shares, or what is the effect of the new shares on Oando share redistribution exercise
- we are enjoying a good run of oil price above $60 - debt-to-equity conversion might not be done at once - aggressive oil drilling ongoing - possibility of selling off some legacy assets - OandO currently having receivables in excess of $200m - bond issuance will enable slow and gradual payment of debts. This enable resumption of dividend payments - working capital and shareholder funds estimated to move from -ve to +ve within the next 12months
