AnfieldFan:Between Wick and Bond, I don't even know who gets saved by plot armour more. If this was a gun battle, Wick would be the fave to win but the only person he stands a chance against here is Bond. Bourne and Reacher stomp him in hand-to-hand and it's indeed not close. |
ShaqFu:Wetin be "what did he do to them later"? You wan shift post. Abi will he come back from the dead for a rematch after Reacher snaps his neck? |
Pearl Harbor (2001) 6.5/10 Director: Michael Bay Pearl Harbor tells the story of 2 best friends who join the US airforce in the backdrop of World War II. A tale of love, loss, betrayal and duty. Throughout my experience with Michael Bay's work, while he's extremely talented with spectacles, he's never been a director to get you to really care about his characters beyond surface level. As such, the primary tragedy the movie is centred on, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor only dredges up the bare minimum human sympathy from the viewer. You don't really feel any loss deeply because you never connected with any of the characters more than superficially. Not even the help of Hans Zimmer's beautiful OST can force that. That said, Pearl Harbor is still a pretty good action movie with its elaborate and well choreographed air battles. Sorry, did I say action movie? I meant romance-action. Or is it action-romance? The love story is actually the main focus of the story with the war actually just serving as a plot element to push the romance forward. It's a nice love story, even if some parts of it are annoying and the ending is a bit convenient, but hey, fiction doesn't always have to be realistic afterall. I'd say Affleck did a pretty decent job, and also had believable chemistry with Kate Beckinsale. Bay's talents shine in the depiction of the Japanese air raid on Pearl Harbor. Man did not shy away from depicting as much carnage and destruction as he could without getting too graphic and gory. Of course, if you're a World War II history buff, the rating drops to a 4 or even less cos the movie is overflowing with historical inaccuracies.

The Kingsman (2021) 6/10 Director: Matthew Vaughn The Kingsman's uninspired plot, unnecessarily long runtime and poorly executed humor made it such a labour to watch. A whole 2hrs+ runtime and I still didn't give a shìt about any of the characters by the time it was over. Even the character killed off for shock value didn't shock me, though I was surprised. Whereas the previous entries managed to balance both the comedic and serious tones, this prequel fails at that task. Saddled with unfunny gags, the comedy still manages to kill any chance I had to care about the plot. And the cast's performance vary from just ok to really bad to really-bad-it's-actually-good. It's still a mildly interesting story at the end of the day, with decent execution. Action sequences were nice enough. But all in all, pretty forgettable.

CoolUsername:Same way you'd manage an office staff, I presume. |
CoolUsername:But you still get a harem though |
MJBOLT:I mean, that's what this sounds like. |
Iamyemmie:Food don finish. Goff will either starve to death or be out out of its misery. |
CoolUsername:Imagine dying and getting reincarnated in a shìtty isekai world ![]() |
abduleez1:I wan cry for the guy. And I thought he was going to die there. |
abduleez1:Final season starts on 27th. Get moving |
Now it's time to catch up on Peaky Blinders

This is the best intro of the year, hands down. Sorry, I don't make the rules.

Peacemaker 8.5/10 James Gunn is a genius. Delivering both on the big screen and the small screen. When Peacemaker was announced after the release of The Suicide Squad, I had great hopes for the show because of how good Cena's performance in the movie was. But Gunn went on to create and endear us to both new characters and old faces we hadn't been paying attention to. Vigilante is definitely a fan favourite. Harcourt went from generic badass female agent to a character I could really care for and be sad about when I thought tragedy was about to befall her. Even Economos, who I neither knew his name nor gave a fück what it was, ended up growing on me. Hell, even Detective Sophie Song's scenes were a delight to watch. Gunn blended various kinds of humor in this action-comedy, from light-hearted to dark to cringe to deadpan and the comedic timing is so good that it just about works almost everytime. The action scenes are gritty and hard-hitting. With well choreographed fight sequences like the fight with Judomaster and the fight against the gorilla. Cena steps up his performance from TSS by still maintaining Peacemaker's douchebag personality but also peeling pack the layers to show that the man is more complex than he seems. All in all, this was a solid show that I really look forward to the second season and even a third. And I look forward to seeing Cena take up more diverse roles. Man's really proven he can deliver when he teams up with a good director.

webhead:Why does Garfield need two doubles? |
AnfieldFan:If it's a co-lead effort, it seems a bit deceitful to make it sound she was the solo draw. Solo stars who became A-listers after a flop(s) became A-listers inspite of the flop, not because of it. The flop remains a dent in their career, not something to portray like it's an achievement. The Fantastic Four movies were also critical successes. Evans was a B-lister, but one with a burgeoning audience after his run as the Human Torch, especially among teen girls. Talking about the praise Scarlet got in Girl with a Pearl Earring can be considered a strawman. Yes, she delivered a great performance but did she put butts in seats? |
abduleez1:Ornicus. Now that's a name that hasn't crossed my mind in a long time. Mehn! Movies thread was the shìt back then. |
pu7pl3:Same genre? Scarjo |
pu7pl3:Let's not cap, Scarlet's star power is leagues above Waititi's. She was the main draw in the cast, for sure. |
oyaskii:Sort of. Never really seen either of them completely. Only in bits. |
Weekend Watch List - The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - Hacksaw Ridge (2016)

MJBOLT:We just entered the second month. Barely halfway through the first quarter. Adults are hustling, kids are schooling. Not exactly the time to be dropping blockbusters on a dime. Check first quarter of previous years too. |
AnfieldFan:Wasn't debating their acting prowess. Just pointing out who sucked harder |
AnfieldFan:Don Jon had prime Gordon-Levitt and Julianne Moore, as well. I have absolutely no idea while you'd put Ghost in the Shell. It's a massive flop. Nanny Diaries was alongside Chris Evans who was coming fresh from the success of the Fantastic Four movies. We bought a Zoo alongside Matt freaking Damon. Girl with a Pearl Earring under fücking Colin Firth. Match Point and JoJo Rabbit are her sole credits here. |
abduleez1:That shit was always paining me. A young fine brotha leaving all them fine, fresh babes to go carry old aunty. He should have carried Zoe wholesale |
VerifiedStalin:Not as hard as Brie Larson sucks as Carol Danvers. |
100naira:He should come and carry Nneka from the next street. Young, pretty thing with ample bosoms that can make heavenly Egusi soup and throw it back in za oza room
|
abduleez1:I did. Ngl, I'm happy with the news. The brother was too fine to be hitched to an old cargo. |
Simonokeh7:Trailers usually provide minimal information about the premise, but avoid revealing conclusions and/or twists relevant to the plot. Sometimes, a trailer may contain spoilers and fans rarely fail to call out or point out that trailer. |
abduleez1:Have you seen the comments section of the latest LotR trailer? Folks are spamming LotR quotes in the comments, in different languages |
