Mod412: Hindsight is a beautiful thing, it allows us to talk with conviction, I mean who's to say the supposed player we should have bought would have guaranteed us a trophy? I don't know man, i do agree with you tho, we should have won 'something' during the last 8 years and that can be considered a failure.
Not saying that 1 particular player will bring trophies or 'success'. It's about knowing what part of your team is in dire need and filling the gap. Every season, the team finds itself in chronic need in one department and all we get from Wenger is 'tales by moonlight' and stories about players coming back as "LANS".
The same season he was dilly dallying over an extra 3-5 milla to get Cahill, was the season we lost the Carling cup final and went from title contenders in April to finish in 4th place.
I'm convinced the outcome of the season wld have been different if we didn't have to play Seb Squills in front of Manu Almunous in some games and Kos didn't have to command our defence with Ligue 2 experience. Just my own view though.

Mod412: But, just in case you missed it, the poster i was replying to said( para phrasing here) the last 8 years of Wengers reign has been a failure, that's just too much bullshite to ignore.
.... and you rightly said
Mod412: We both have completely different definitions of success and failure

SportsRe: Obaobona Slams Wenger Over Invitation For Trial by KayDee4: 4:31pm On Jul 28, 2013
The club has the right to assess a player before investing.
The player has the right to refuse to be assessed (but he can't force the club to sign him without a trial).
It then comes down to a case of who wants the other party more.
If @ Arsenal, they need him that badly, they will go all out to get him even if he doesn't want a trial (this is obviously not the case).
Apparently, Obaobona has a better option elsewhere and can afford to shun Arsenal or he is happy to remain at Sunshine stars.

Whatever the case, good luck to Obaobona.

Mod412: To say I disagree with everything posted above would be an understatement. Do you actually think your 'opinion' is the Gospel truth, get out of here with that all knowing bullshite attitude, no offense.

We both have completely different definitions of success and failure so I won't even bother arguing with you - But I will say this, if you consider the last 8 years of Wenger's tenure as a 'failure', then you must have been living in fantasy island.

Winning trophies doesn't always equate success, Dalglish, Martinez, Redknapp and Mcliesh are testament to that, building a half a billion dollar stadium, staying competitive AND guaranteeing the long term future of a club is what I call success, IMFO.
"staying competitive"
What is "competitive" ? Competing for 4th place ?
The danger here with 'Arsenal Wenger' is that the bar keeps going down. Competitiveness used to be about fighting for the title but soon, it's gon be all about making it to the Europa (not even UCL).
Yeah, we built a stadium and had our financial hands tied, but missing out on, or not signing desperately needed players cos of 3-5 million pounds difference has nothing to do with the stadium.
That "billion-dollar stadium" excuse may have been valid some years ago but it's totally played out now.
There were seasons we could have done better than we did or maybe even won something but for lack of proper players and Monsieur's penny-pinching attitude, we failed.

milehigh06: dont get me wrong, not even accusing you of that.if its some unknown Nigerian player, yea its understandable, but an established member of one of AFRICA's best teams, its a slap.how many experienced members of other top national teams get called for trials...maybe if your country is macedonia,or one of those unknown teams
y'all are saying they should sign him without a trial in other words, THEY SHOULD 'KNOW' HIM WELL.

and they are saying, " we don't know him that much but we're interested in him and will like to know more about his on-field abilities" which is what I understand a trial to be all about.
SportsRe: Obaobona Slams Wenger Over Invitation For Trial by KayDee4: 5:00pm On Jul 27, 2013
milehigh06: exposure...what exposure other exposure do you need for an african player than nations cup and confed cup and world cup.which league in Africa is up to scratch?when the boy moves to a club and starts to makle raves, you will see arsenal fans shouting they stole the player from them
It's left for them to say how much they know about him not for him to say how much they should know about him. He can prove himself by doing his talking with his boots.

Yeah, any other club can sign him without a trial if its a risk they are willing to take and if he does well for them, then "good deal".

I'm not against Arsenal signing him, my point is that there's nothing strange or insulting about requesting for a trial.

milehigh06: why would they doubt the ability of an important member of a title winning team but not doubt that of a 17yr old that has not played in such high level games?is it because most of these kids are french?
It has a lot to do with exposure. Depends on how much they know about a player.

Obaobona was probably only watched at AFCON before he was called for a trial.

These kids in Europe have scouts swarming all over their clubs all the time.
SportsRe: Obaobona Slams Wenger Over Invitation For Trial by KayDee4: 4:38pm On Jul 27, 2013
milehigh06: you are bnot getting my point, why sign 17year olds straight out after watching them at u21 tourneys but you watch a fully grown man at nations cup and confed cup and insist he must come for trials?trials are meant for players who you have doubts about their ability to come prove themselves and if u just watch a boy play against less developed players and give him a contract, why would u now ask a man who played against the likes of drogba to come for trials.give him a 1 year contract if you doubt his ability or at best do an mri scan if you doubt his age
tell me how many players at arsenal came for trials?like i said, did djourou, flamin go for trials?
If they ask you for a trial, it means they have doubts about your ability.

If they don't, it means they trust in your ability to perform based on scouting reports or whatever.

Now you cannot question them for having doubts about what you can bring to the pitch. If I'm not sure about what I'm buying then I wont pay for it without tasting/testing.

I'm not sure the trial thing has anything to do with age verification.

milehigh06: the 17 year olds that arsenal keep on signing, where were they tested?
Is Obabona 17 ? (I honestly do not know)

The 17 yr old kids are signed to be groomed (youth team) not for team A. Even though some of the kids still go through the trial process. eg: Miyachi some years ago.

Abi Obabona wan go youth team ?

The club is free to choose who to subject to a trial or not.

Eyahh !! be like say d guy fail. The guy for don know say Wenger na time waster. grin grin grin grin

A trial is very much in order, he's untested outside Nigeria and National team performance does not guarantee a good performance on club level.

The club has the right to test whatever they wish to buy (sign) and the player has the right to say "no, I'll pass" no be by force to play for Arsenal.

A lot of top employees moving from one company to another usually undergo some form of assessment or interview even when they have superb credentials. Same thing goes here.

"We are ready to do quick deals but all the transfers do not depend only on us," said Wenger as he spoke about the transfer for the first time. "But we are prepared to wait. It looks unlikely before the Emirates Cup (next weekend).

"We still have a strong squad but we are there on the market to try to strengthen our team. With or without additions we can be title challengers next season."
Lol !!

*Yawns* Wenger, as always, sounding like a badly scratched up CD with the same story every summer. This clown has been searching for 'quality' players for the past 3 years, him never see.

With the players dropping like flies in pre-season, I foresee another rough start to the season and an extension of the trophyless run.

Nothing is ever going to change with Wengazidis the incorrigible pair, they never never learn.
PoliticsRe: Do Nigerians Pay Taxes? by KayDee4: 12:38pm On Jul 27, 2013
Gainfully employed Nigerians pay taxes (not just government workers), it is deducted from their paycheck.

Businesses operating in Nigeria (even small ones) pay taxes.

The FIRS rakes in billions annually in form of tax revenue.

Yeah, the bulk of govt revenue comes from oil but taxpayers still have the right to hold govt accountable even if their contribution is just N1.00 .

Stop lying to yourself in the name of patriotism.
- MMIA is an embarrassment, not fit to be called a major international airport.
- Arrival (immig. & customs)area is so small and always very hot (blame it on the on going construction but that's a minus from me)
- A major airport where only 1 conveyor belt works. (I spent almost 2 hours just to get my bag the other day).
- The toll at the airport car park increased by 100% (from N100 to N200) and the amount of potholes in there increased by 500%. What is the toll money being used for ?
- The entire car park smells of pee and if you look around you will see puddles of urine in some corners there.
- The only airport where I have ever been caught in a traffic jam from within.
- Restrooms . . . SMH , a huge NO NO.
- etc etc etc. I won't go into the smaller details.

It's a sad situation there and even more unfortunate when we refuse to admit it to ourselves.

Suarez will bring more good than harm to Arsenal (if he gets signed).

Guy, get a good lawyer and sue their ásses.
Some Naija policemen are uberuseless.

- Someone called the radio last week to complain he was unlawfully arrested and locked up for weeks by the black devils of the NPF (Ikeja area) and they threatened to kill him if he didn't pay them a certain amount (in millions). Talk about police extortion. He eventually paid and confirmed that some people were killed for not paying while he was there.

- One time (very recently), I was driving from Surulere, approaching the signal light in front of the National stadium, the light turned red and I slowed down and stopped. The guy behind me breaks out and drives past the red light, the policemen there jumped up with their guns cocked and the guy stopped. After talking for some seconds, the guy pulls out a bottle of ogogoro from the back seat and hands it to the policeman talking to him; his face changed from a strong-faced frown to a kitty-smile and he waves the guy away and gleefully runs to show his colleagues the bottle-of-whatever.

All I could do was shake my head in dismay.

* I heard there's an office of "the provost of the police" which serves as the police of the police, They are there to instill discipline in the police force. I don't know how effective they are but may be worth giving a try for police complaints. *

Black folks run the streets with drugs, thugs and gangs molesting and intimidating the community daily, no one cries.
But today we are all crying under the guise of racism which is very consistent with this case..
I think the comparison to the daily shootings in Chicago which I often hear people make is kinda strange because most of those black-on-black killings up there have a criminal basis to them. They are mostly drug or gang related and the general public will show no sympathy to the victims. Trayvon's case is quite different; an innocent and unarmed teen, shot to death by a wannabe cop in complicated circumstances with some sprinkling of racism.

Roland17: I don't believe Fiorentina Perez one bit, dude is a very shrewd business man (for those who know his history) and knows how to play his card to Madrid's advantage, denying Arsenal made a strong bid to lure Higuain to the Emirates is a clear case of one lying through the teeth, it is entirely FALSE.

Arsenal seem to be the only club left in the chase for "El Pipita", Perez understands this and is going to get every penny and prolong the issue to frustrate Arsenal since they do not have a replacement for him yet, there is no doubt Higuain wants to leave Madrid, whether he wants to move to Arsenal is another topic.

To many, Wenger is synonymous to "CHEAP" and who am i to blame them? especially when they have shallow insights on the intricacies of running one of the most financially stable and successful football club that is going through transition, many would prefer the Lavish style of coaches like Harry Redknapp but hey i am standing by Wenger and when the right deal comes, he would make it and if he doesn't i would ride on with my darling team.
Playing transfer poker with Madrid grin grin grin . Lol !! Wenger is an unserious manager.
Signing a striker is not our only problem, we need to get players in other positions where we need them, we can do those deals while waiting for Madrid to blink. We still don't have a DM backup for Arty, now that Coqy is gone and Diaby is a no no. GK ? Defender ?
Yeah, for now we are the only ones in the Higo chase but when other clubs get involved, we'll be sure to miss out on the deal and settle for a Silvestre-like signing.
I don't get too excited by all the news in the rumor mill. My only problem is that once the window shuts, we'll be forced to live through the season with weekly high BP whenever the team sheet is put out.
1. We can as well argue that Dana airline is not a Nigerian airliner.

2. Dana airline was piloted by an AMERICAN pilot.

3. US got her independence 237 years ago, while Nigeria is barely 50 years.

I thought I should help you out. Stop comparing US with Nigeria.
If you want to use independence age as an excuse, we can argue that Nigeria is older than Singapore and therefore, should be more advanced.

But really, I don't like that line of excuse because all we have to do is copy what is already working from anywhere.

If America spent 200 years trying to invent and build their system to work efficiently, we don't have to spend 200 hundred years trying to copy a system that already works.

In cases where we fail to get simple things right, a comparison is in order.
Foreign AffairsRe: Asiana Airlines Crashes At San Francisco Airport, USA... by KayDee4: 12:40am On Jul 07, 2013
He is making real sense here. The case would have been different if the plane crashed in a residential area or forest. Efficiency has a limit.

Besides, it is expected that a quick response mechanism would spring into action as it happened right at the airport. You may not know it but hours before a plane anywhere in the world touches down on the runway, there are already all sorts of emergency crew waiting for it's arrival so same crew would have sprung into action if it were at MMA, it is no rocket science.

You also have to know that a high percentage of plane crashes that happen at or close to an airport is often due to faults of the control tower or airport shortcomings and that is a possibility here.

We all know Naija is bad but have a little respect for your homeland because the world is watching.

But if you insist, I can show you 101 ways America is highly inefficient and corrupt. So cut the crap about America being perfect 'cause you can only fool naive folks.
Explosion on impact or a crash in a remote area where the plane's status is 'missing' for a long time, is different and excusable.

Fire service arriving over 2 hours after a crash (as reported in the Dana case) is not "efficiency bound by limits' it is gross inefficiency. Same goes for the sosoliso incident, it was right there @ the airport and the news at that time was that airport fire service had no water (if you heard a different, cogent reason for the slow or no response, pls tell me).

No disrespect to Naija, I never badmouth my country in the presence of foreigners but lets stop lying to ourselves as Nigerians.

We no dey try.

Na wah for people calling others "liars" for sharing their personal true life experiences. That you had it good doesn't mean it happens that way all the time.

Personally, I had a horrible time with the ATL consulate involving over 3 months of misinformation (on their website and by individuals at the consulate), unanswered phone calls and insolence when they do, unreplied emails (till date) but they made up for all that when I eventually went down there, I got good service (I was almost being pampered) and my passport was promptly delivered.

The NIS website till today still says

" All Standard passports have a life span of 10 years with an initial validity of five (5) years."

which is totally misleading. I pointed this out to them and all they could say was, "disregard the information on our website".
