IgboTyphoon: Olodo is the question why States/ politicians claim they collect taxes? Or is the debate that high IGR does not mean high productivity ?
Economic productivity has to do with competitive & comparative advantages, efficiency, availability of means of production etc.
This is a pure economic debate. End of story. You keep dabbling everywhere The competitive advantage (bigger economy) we have draws more people. It's no secret that the SW draws the most immigrants across the country and the need for the indigenes not to migrate enmass internally. It is also reflected in the share of GDP the area controls which also reflects in state governments ability to generate meaningful revenue from the region. In the case of the Yeast. You really can't draw water from stone and your governments have far less tools to make the area economically bouyant. You are solely reliant on federal government handouts to build up any meaningful infrastructure or development. Is it why Nwosu and Ironsi decreed the unitary system to help the helpless yeast? Imagine 36 billion to 72 billion (SW without Lagos and Kwara). It's not even a contest. If I add Lagos, it will be like taking a butter knife to a nuclear bomb fight |

We Igbos are republicans and capitalist. We like small govt and low tax. Revenue is socialism. LMAO Wetin man no go hear for nairaland. So the northern states that are equally unproductive as yours are capitalists? Buhaha |

No wonder the can not stay in their poor, unproductive and economically nonviable ipob villages. Poor ipobs...smh
So the productivity of the flat headed ones is literally half of Omoluabi's even when you remove our crown jewel (Lagos)!!! You didn't even factor Kwara Diaris God o!!! We need our own country |

olioxx: . . You have said it all. I need to leave Nigeria. We lack vision in this country. That $12b he spent is enough to build a 7500MW - 8500MW of hydropower plant that can power a large area of Lagos and in turn will yield good revenue, since the world is going "electric". 40% of cars in Norway are electric cars. It's his money. Let him spend it however he pleases. Why don't you tell Ibeto to build a hydro power plant? Jeez |

chemgee: try to get his point, lemme show you from another angle... imaging you were investing millions of naira to build a cyber café 1 year before MTN/GLO/Vmobile started to roll out their data bundle for people to browse on their phone and no more have to queue at the cyber café... You'll lose wella, but it would have been a different story if you had built it 5years earlier. one love How about you let Dangote invest his "own" money as he sees fit in his "private" refinery and you not try and play the role of his financial advisor How about that? |

OkunrinOloro: Is this deliberate or actual ignorance at play? I was talking about things to expect in 10 to 20 years time and not the way things are done at the moment. Of course for the time being, EIA is an indispensible aspect of the petroleum industry, but once that industry no longer exists that will no longer be the case will it? Common sense. Sigh. You've not started making today's money now and you are asking us to forsake it! Which kin nonsense be dis? Babanla nonsense! Can't you chew gum and walk at the same time? OkunrinOloro: The environmental impact of producing those petrochemicals is even greater than that of just refining crude. Inventors are already being granted patents for discovering safer alternatives for petrochemicals. Environmental impact? Are you kidding? All the countries with refineries don't consider or do EIAs? Lmao Derivatives of crude oil (as varied and diverse as they are) will always be researched. Just like alternatives to everything is equally researched. Doesn't mean you handicap ypur economy and not produce and export what you can sell while you can sell it. Not rocket science |

OkunrinOloro: Cash in on what sunset? Dwindling revenues? Failure to diversify your economic portfolio after 50+ years of independence? Even when it was boom time how did you profit? Sense is indeed needed, but not where you think. Petrochemicals (value addition to crude) is part of diversification. It's the easiest and fastest diversification effort we can achieve. It's private enterprise. The man didn't become a billionaire by accident and not using good judgment |

OkunrinOloro: In the long term a collosal waste of money.
China, India and Germany have already announced that by the year 2030 which is just 11 years away, they would have fully done away with the use of cars which run on fossil fuels.
Indeed, Sheikh Zaki Yamani, a former Saudi oil minister, once said, “The stone age came to an end not for a lack of stones, and the oil age will end, but not for a lack of oil.”
But Nigerians have never been known for long term strategic thinking or planning.
You guys will suffer the consequences of poor leadership very soon. The wise ones cashed in on the stones before the stone age ended. The fact that we are transitioning from oil doesn't mean you shouldn't make make hay at sunset. Besides, there are tons of product from crude oil that aren't fuel related. Sense is required |
