NSE denies knowledge of Afroil, Capital Oil suspension By Obinna Chima Published: Friday, 21 Mar 2008 The Nigerian Stock Exchange has said it is not aware of the indefinite suspension placed on trading in the shares of Afroil Plc and Capital Oil Plc by the Securities and Exchange Commission. The Principal Manager, Corporate Affairs, NSE, Mr. Shola Oni, said on Thursday that the NSE was yet to receive any information from SEC on the suspension of the shares of the two oil companies. Oni said, “We read the story on the pages of the newspapers just like every other person and I think that will not be the best for the system. The relationship between the stock exchange and SEC has always been cordial, but there should always be due process.” SEC had, on Wednesday, announced an indefinite suspension of trading in the shares of Afroil and Capital Oil on the NSE. The commission said the decision was a fallout of an investigation into the activities of six companies, announced on February 15, 2008. According to the commission, the two companies were involved in insider dealings. The commission had declared that the basis for the continued trading and rise in the prices of the shares on the exchange, no longer existed, adding that the decision was to protect stock market investors. Prior to the commencement of the investigation, the Director-General, NSE, Prof. Ndi Okereke-Onyiuke, had flayed SEC for not informing the Exchange about the activity. Our correspondent gathered that, despite the suspension, there was still trading in the shares of the companies. Some stock brokers said that the shares of the companies were, largely, in offer on Thursday as investors were apprehensive over the announcement. The stock brokers, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, berated SEC for not informing the NSE before carrying out any activity on the Exchange. According to them, the perceived unhealthy relationship between both organisations can create tension in the capital market. “We all agree that SEC is the regulator of the capital market, but there should be due process in everything. The commission has to understand that the NSE, to an extent, is also a regulatory body. Without the stock exchange, I don’t think there will be anything for SEC to regulate,” a stockbroker said. At the end of trading on Thursday, Afroil, which sold at N24.13, traded 4,424,117million shares, valued at N106.754m in 342 deals. For capital oil, 3.414 million shares worth N55.006m were traded in 144 transactions. It sold at N16.11 |

First Bank's services and customer care irritates me. I opened a savings account with a bank that i thought was "Truly the first" and to my utomost dismay in another bank i was told i could not withdraw from my account. Imagine that! I was told they were ONLINE o! Another one, One of my friends had an account at their ile-ife branch. he went and checked his balance after say a month. He realised 50 000 naira had been removed from his account. They told him without even caring that someone must have come to withdraw the money from his account. It took the intervention of some top shot at the branch before the issue could be settled, very disgusting (sorry for that word) bank if you ask me. |
Obasanjo's legacy? i'll tell u 1 N75 fuel increase 2 10% VAT increase 3 Complete collapse in the Educational Sector 4 Hightened unrest amongst several unions in the country 5 Economical instablity 6 High inflation rates 7 Further depletion of the naira against others currencies despite world record overseas trips 8 Pain in the heart of his employees, most notably Okonjo-Iweala (the woman who single-handedly cleared the debt of this country) These are just a few. i'm soo disappointed in Obasanjo that i believe he is one President Nigeria should never have had. People say well he has done this and that. yeah, agreed. The question is "How much has those things he did helped the common man?" If half of the money he invested into launching a rocket to space was invested in education, perhaps the system would not have been as decayed as this. The country after Obasanjo has taken a down turn and i believe it takes a man who is ready to listen to the cry of the nigerian people to change situations. After 8 years! of rule, Obasanjo is summarily a disgrace and an underachiever. ![]() |
very disturbing, very selfish, may God save us from this people ![]() |
First thing first, which distribution are you using. Whichever one it is u should find a way to mount your windows files into linux. Some distributions like fedora provide the /mnt where u can easily mount files from other harddrives. Mandriva for examples mounts windows automatically which means u can access your windows files directly from linux. If your distribution does not mount automatically, the 'mount' command will help in mounting for you.go to linuxforums.org for more information. ![]() |
GOOD FOR HIM ![]() |
good job, latadeyek. that's if he knows how to - statically ![]() |
setup an arp server. that helps to obtain the hardware address of the system requesting ip, also try naming the systems in your network. it helps a great deal in handling unwarranted connection to your domain ![]() |
These are the legacies of Obasanjo as he left office. Interestingly, many of them he implemented some days to handover. First it w as the fuel strike, now VAT. I believe we've not seen the last of them all. dat MAN!!!, , is a president we should never have had |
What do you guys think about this ASUU strike? i like to see it as one of Mr (or is it Chief now) Obasanjo's legacies, |
oooobafemi awolowo university!!!!!!!!!! ;d ;d ;d |
i prefer fedora servers - very cool and secured. however, which linux certifications can one write ? thanks ![]() |
The pitch was beautiful. The match started well but ended in a disaster. typical of nigerian games, or dont u think so, anyway, except for the drop in fifa points again, i don't see anything wrong. the ugandans deserved to win, the eagles caved in the second half and lost scoring chances we'll still qualify ![]() |
I'm one of those who believe Mr (or is it Chief now) Obasanjo's government did a lot of harm than good to this nation. Several projects undertaken did not reflect the true yearnings of the nigeria people. After eight years of rule, he could not find answers to the basic problems of power, job creation, inflation rate, high exchange and needless to say, the fuel crisis and education. Obasanjo's government was a failure. Let's hope that President Ya'ardua tackle this issues as he assumes office. |
