You are right if we are to be too simplistic. I'll even add Urhobo to it. To me she looks very much Urhobo but I know the African American story. They've been mixed over a very long period of time and as such its difficult pinpointing a particular ethnic group. Surprisingly, some people are able to retain some looks and even structure peculiar to certain ethnic groups. This mostly favours the big tribes. In the case of OP, I'll say she doesn't really have the well identified Igbo nor Yoruba look. She could be any of them but does not possess that peculiar look that easily gives one away. To me she's tilted to the Niger Delta groups that I supported earlier. Binis didn't participate in slave trade and the ijaws were more of slave merchants. Urhobos on the other hand suffered under the trade but with little information to support it.

Based on historical records, it is EXTREMELY unlikely that she has any mixture at all from that ethnic group. It's nearly an impossibility. On the other hand, it is highly likely that she is of some significant Igbo descent.

This is true but does that make me more or less African? Lol I wonder because the average African American has 70-99% west African DNA and the average African American has at least 1 white ancestor, but you can look at my dads people and tell there is not white in his lineage at all, they are very tall slim and dark skinned, my moms side is short, light skinned and have some members that look white or half but I carry more of my fathers DNA I am dark skinned, high cheekbones, strong, sure we are mixed but I will say I'm African until the day I die. Like where is Africa America, theres no such place cheesy

Your claim or belief of that your dad's side of the family lacks any European mixture is most likely false. The fact of that they are dark skinned and may appear to lack any European features, means absolutely nothing when it comes to the topic of Genetics.

Don Cheadle, Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg and Danny Glover all appear to have a look in which may give some the idea of that they may lack any European mixture, but they all do have European mixture, and as much or nearly as much so as your average one-of-the-mill African-American does. It is impossible to tell if someone is genetically purely of one single racial makeup via appearance alone.

If it is a well-known fact, there should be numerous well-known authentic source, I tried searching but I could not get any... Slaves were taken by white men from all the coasts of west and east Africa and NOT just Igboland... don't peddle false information!

There are numerous documentations showing this to be accurate. You can find it easily with just a few simple searches, but there's no need for that, because right here on this site there are several threads available for you to look through, with such information already posted within them.

I have heard I look Igbo but I don't really know, I have seen Nigerians that favor me, but I am not sure if their tribe. I am getting a DNA test that goes back generation to generation of my mothers mothers mothers line. I hope to find answers with the test, because I KNOW I am WEST AFRICAN, but that's not enough for me, I need to know where my bloodlines came from, its very important to me to find peace living and being brought up in this horrible country. (usa) angry

But anyway, what do you guys think?? smiley

I will go as far as to say that you certainly do look as though you may have strong ties to SE Nigeria, and in saying so... Igbo is the most logical guess as to which specific ethnic group from that region you may descend from.

hmmm... excluding the North-east where there is boko haram... Nigeria is relatively safe for anyone that uses common sense.

We are not extremely tribal, come to Nigeria for a tourist vacation and see for yourself... yes we might favor our own tribes occassionally but it is just like favouring your family member.

White people that speak pidgin english and any native language are usually accepted, how much more a black american that looks like us?

You dont really know anything about Nigeria... what you know is distorted.

You know not what I've seen or experienced; you and I both know this to be fact. It is your agenda to attempt to place your people and native land in the best light when presented to the unknowing foreigner looking for guidance on such topic, and it is mine to insure that those in which share an identity with me are shown to true light of the situation as I've seen and experienced along with many others. Youtube loaded with such experiences my brother, for reference. Our agendas cross, so we do not see squarely eye to eye on this topic.

I must say, you are a pretty woman. From one African-American to another, I'll say this as a word of advice. Forget about moving to Africa. You'd be better off moving to the Caribbean. The vast majority of Africans are extremely tribal, and thus will not accept you as one of them. Most will see you as nothing more than a white person dipped in chocolate in a round about way, that is unless you have money or something other of value in which they feel they can get from you. Then you will magically become their long lost sistah. cheesy

Nigeria in particular is a very violent and problematic place. I'd NEVER even dream of moving there, and you'd be a fool to do so yourself. If you feel you must make this move to Africa, then my best advice for you cousin is to go to a small, quaint nation like Gabon, Soa Tome, Namibia, Equatorial Guinea and such. I feel Living in a place like Nigeria may cause you to hate them even more so than you've grown to hate us, you're own people. Stay safe, and choose wisely. smiley

I don't know why some of you'all are acting so surprised that most of us AA are of Nigerian descent, because I've been telling you this ever since I first came on this board as Hero years back. Beyond just being of Nigerian descent, studies have pinpointed the fact of that the majority of us are SE Nigerian ethnic descent and more specifically Igbo descent. Nearly 60% of us are fully so and or of some significant amount of Igbo descent, making us the second largest holders of Igbo descent in the world behind the Nigerian Igbo population itself.

Yup, Hero was absolutely right. I read a piece in which talked about this.

THE-AMAKA:

your wife is igbo, right?
why dont you ask her.
OH WAIT!! maybe you marrying an igbo girl was all just a lie and a figment of your imagination.
hahaha YOU WISH!  grin
eh?   tongue

Yeah, she's Igbo descent though she was born and raised here in the us outside of the Nigerian community all her life, and she never really took interest in learning about the Igbo culture too much so she know very little about the language and stuff and doesn't care to learn either. I asked if it sounded familiar to her and she said hell no.

Oh, please that chick whipped up on Chris just as much as he did on her. Neither of them should of been hitting on the other. When is someone going to allow Chris to say his part in public?

Why are you'all beating around the bush with this topic? Just come on out and say the obvious; Igbo girls look waaay better than Yoruba. No need to use Eastern and Western cities to make your comparisons when you can just use the people native to them. Hey, and you cant say I'm being tribal, because I'm not even African, I'm Akatta as you'd say. grin

Rule # one to initiating duet with a fellow same-sex artist is to make sure you look and sing better than the one you're inviting. Monica killed that young girl on her own hit song, and she looks better too. I mean Keyshia is a good young singer and she looks good too, but Monica is blatantly a much more matured singer and she looks smoking too. They may be good friends but I don't think the young girl will make this mistake again. Folks are thinking that this is a Monica song featuring Keyshia, cause the singing was so lopsided. :ohno:
