Members of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers led by Governor Nyesom Wike are set to roll out the drums in celebration of defection of key members of the state chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC into their fold. The APC defecting APC members who will be received at a grand reception in Port Harcourt on Thursday include Ogbonna Nwuke who resigned as spokesperson of the party last week, citing ‘personal reasons.’ Nwuke who was a former member representing Etche-Omuma constituency in the House of Representatives had also served as commissioner for information and communications and for Commerce and industry in Rivers. Desmond Akawor, Rivers PDP Chairman said the APC members will be received by Governor Wike at Isacc Boro Park tomorrow, Thursday, 30th September 2021. Members of other parties who also recently declared for PDP will also be received at the occasion. Those that will be formally received into the fold of APC include Chibudom Nwuche, former deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon.Stephen Ezekwem, former. Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon.Emma Deeya, former member, House of Representatives, Hon. Alabo Charles Dokubo, Hon.Ngo Martins Yellowe, former Chairman,Civil Service Commission and Hon. Goodlife Mmekini. The invitation card for the event is already circulating in Rivers. Though he cited ‘personal reasons’ in a statement he issued as the reason for resignation as spokesman of Rivers APC, Nwuke has also been quoted as complaining that: “I was told that there is change in the APC but I did not see any change” “My defection will do Etche people good. The only thing we got in APC is an aide to the Chairman of the NDDC and a member of a governing board of a College in the north”. Also, in a chat with our correspondent last week, Nwuke stated his frustrations as Spokesman of APC. He alleged that the leadership of the party did not give him any support to carry out his duty. Nwuke restrained from calling names of those he said cause him to leave the party. However, analysts have put the blame on the shoulders of Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of Transportation who is the leader of the party in the state. Amaechi has been accused running the party as a dictator and a sole proprietor. An insider in APC confided in our correspondent that one of the immediate reasons for dumping the party was that his interest to run for the chairmanship of the party in state was rejected by Amaechi during a stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt about a week ago. This is coupled with the unresolved crisis between Amaechi and former Senator Magnus Abe and his supporters over the control of the Rivers chapter of APC. But it will be another blow to Amaechi under whose leadership the party was denied participation in the 2019 general election in Rivers as a result of numerous court cases. Several calls put across to Nwuke on Wednesday could not go through as his phone lines were switched off.

Former lawmaker representing Rivers South-East senatorial district, Senator Magnus Abe, has declared that nobody could wish him away in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State. He stated this when he addressed APC stakeholders in Bera community in Gokana Local Government Area of the state. Senator Abe, whose invitation to Bera (though his community) was by the decision of APC leadership in the area for him to douse members’ fear, stressed that nobody could push him out of the party. He said: “There is nobody in Nigeria, there is nobody in Rivers State, who would say there is no APC in Gokana. Can anybody say that? And you can also see that because of the love that my people have shown to me, because of the love and respect that Ogoni people have shown me, it is now clear to the whole of Nigeria, to the whole of Rivers State that, it would be impossible, I repeat the word impossible, to do the politics of APC here in Rivers State without you and me. “I came here today, to tell you that the national said we should be patient. We have been patient; continue to be patient. Let us wait; when they take their decision, we will know, if they fail to take a decision after everything they have said, they would also explain to you and we’ll know. But, nobody should shake.” Senator Abe stressed that the APC under President Muhammadu Buhari leadership, belongs to no particular person, noting that no political party survives without crowd. He stated: “It belongs to all of us, no matter your power, money, without the people you cannot do politics, you are the people. “The voice of the people is the voice of God, consistently, the people have been clear that what is happening in APC in Rivers State is wrong. Everybody, committee and panel that have looked at the issues objectively, had said that what is happening here is wrong. “All we need is those that would have the courage to fix what is wrong, so that the party can move on. If that is done, the party will move on, success would be ours.” “So, remain resolute, don’t shake, don’t fear, anybody that knows where he or she is going would not be afraid when people push you because you know where you are going.”

From TONY JOHN, Port Harcourt Former lawmaker representing Rivers South East Senatorial District, Senator Magnus Abe, has advised politicians to fear God, stressing that violence is not the solution to the lingering crisis rocking All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State. Senator Abe’s remarks were on the heels of a reported attack on one of his supporters in Eleme on Saturday, maintaining that nobody would push him away from the party. He spoke at the inauguration of the Eleme Chapter of Rivers Voice of Freedom (RVF) held at the Eleme Civil Centre, yesterday. Abe stated: “I am a proud member of the All Progressives Congress. I am one of the founders and leaders of the party. Nobody can wish that away and nobody can take that away. If you have contributed, you have contributed. And all of here have contributed. Without us, there can be no APC in the state. “That said, you are away of the current activities going on in the party. You are aware we have been excluded by those powers that be in the state; deliberately to push all of us out of the party for no other reason than associating with Senator Magnus Abe. And I am happy that you continue to associate with me. I will also continue to associate with you. “The second thing I would say is, we should all fear God. Yesterday (Saturday), when they heard that I would come for the inauguration of Eleme Chapter of Rivers Voice of Freedom, the minister’s people came here and attacked the man (his supporter). “They poured petrol on the young man, a lawyer, who was here to set up a banner (for the inauguration). They poured petrol and set fire on the banner. And they were ready to unleash mayhem on this place because they do not want Senator Abe to be here and they do not want to see Senator Abe. “I am a citizen of Federal Republic of Nigeria. Nigeria is a democracy, and we have rights and freedom of association in this country and we are exercising our rights. This is not a parallel congress of any party. Even in places where they held parallel congresses, nobody was set on fire. “In Rivers State, we are blessed. The national leadership of the party has been to this state more than three times. They have heard us, they issued a statement that they would come here to do revalidation and registration which was not properly done. They issued a statement that they would address the challenges of APC in Rivers State. They have given that commitment. And we are prepared to abide by that commitment and wait for what the national will say.” Senator Abe said they (his supporters) had never sponsored attack or bought arms for anyone, advising politicians that they should not be intoxicated of power. He declared: “We have not sponsored any attack on anybody. We have not bought guns for anybody to go and fight anybody. We have not abused anybody. We have not done anything to take away any other person’s right. “Therefore, nobody should try to kill you or try to kill us, or try to set people on fire, or try to deny us our rights to freely associate and do what politicians do, which is talk to the people. And we will talk to the people. “Everybody should fear God. I am saying this to the newly inaugurated Exco of RVF in Eleme and I am saying this to all of us in this country. Let us fear God. Power is only temporary. And no matter how sweet power is, it will either leave you, or you leave power. It is not forever.”

late last night as a high court sitting in cross river state bars the embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, from acting as the National Chairman of the Party. Granting an interim order in the suit No HC/240/2021, the court restrained him from assuming the office of National Chairman of the 2nd Defendant, while seeking re-election to the office of the National Chairman of the 2nd Defendant pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice. According to the Order signed by the Registrar Ekei. E.Kooffreh issued on Friday and sighted by TheNigerialawyer(TNL), the court further restrained Secondus from presiding over the National Executive Committee meeting of the 2nd Defendant scheduled to hold on Saturday, the 28th of August, 2021, or any subsequent meeting of the National Executive Committee of the PDP and from presiding over any meeting of the organ of the PDP or attending any such meetings or functions in the capacity of National Chairman of the party or in any other manner or form attempting to forcefully gain entrance Into any such meetings or into any premises of the PDP as the National Chairman of the Party pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice. “An ORDER OF INTERM INJUNCTION restraining the 1st Defendant from acting or purporting to act or to parade himself in any manner howsoever as the National Chairman of the 2nd Defendant having been restrained from doing so by a court of competent jurisdiction pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.” The motion ex parte was filed by Enang Kanum Wani while the second Defendant in this suit is the People Democratic Party(PDP). TheNigeriaLawyer, had reported that Justice Nusirat. I. Umar, a vacation Judge of the Kebbi State High court on Thursday restored Uche Secondus as the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), barely three days after the River State High Court issued an ex parte order suspending him. https://thenigerialawyer.com/again-another-court-of-coordinate-jurisdiction-bars-secondus-from-acting-as-pdp-national-chairman-while-seeking-re-election/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=again-another-court-of-coordinate-jurisdiction-bars-secondus-from-acting-as-pdp-national-chairman-while-seeking-re-election

The Peoples Democratic Party Women Caucus in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State have accused the suspended National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, of having close ties with the opposition All Progressives Congress. The Caucus President, Ms Doris Owaji, and Secretary, Mrs Beauty Samuel, said this in a statement in Port Harcourt on Wednesday. The statement was titled ‘Secondus’ unholy alliance with APC exposed.’ The PDP women said they have uncovered a plan by Secondus to obtain an injunction to challenge his suspension in a court in Nasarawa State. The statement read, ” We are appalled by the decision of Prince Uche Secondus, who has been restrained by a competent court from parading himself as the national chairman of our party, to procure a court order challenging his suspension from Nasarawa State judiciary. “In as much as we recognise the constitutional right of Mr Secondus to seek legal redress, we consider it however curious that he opted to file a suit to challenge his suspension from the PDP in Nasarawa State, governed by the All Progressives Congress. “We had expected Secondus, who had been suspended in his ward in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, for anti-party activity to defend himself in the suit filed against him here in Rivers State. “We have no doubt that Mr Secondus’ decision to file a suit in Nasarawa State proves that he must have entered into a conspiracy with the APC to thwart PDP’s quest to win the 2023 general elections “We find it absurd that Mr Secondus, who has been a major beneficiary of the PDP, could desire to destroy the same party that brought him to limelight if he fails to achieve his inordinate ambition to perpetuate himself in office as national chairman.

No preferred governorship aspirants, says Rivers APC by Mike Odiegwu, Port Harcourt August 23, 2021 The Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Isaac Ogbobula, has denied reports that the party preferred some governorship aspirants ahead of 2023 general election. Ogbobula, in a statement in Port Harcourt at the weekend by the party’s spokesman, Ogbonna Nwuke, described as false, reports quoting him as saying that Dakuku Peterside, Biokpo Awara and Tonye Cole were preferred aspirants. He said: “My attention has been drawn to reports that I said APC has preferred aspirants. I said no such thing. “My dear party leaders and members, please ignore the fake report. It is the handiwork of fifth columnists bent on causing confusion in our midst. We must expect more of these acts of mischief and blackmail as the 2023 countdown starts. “Peterside, Awara and Cole are great and wonderful party leaders and we love them dearly. “But we must not allow anyone to ascribe to any party functionary, an act which he or she did not undertake. Kindly ignore the circulation of fake news.” Ogbobula appealed to persons spreading propaganda to take it easy, saying the deliberate misinformation added no substance to the promotion of healthy relations among political parties. He said: “I urge the public, particularly members of our party, to shun the publication. There are people who want to destabilise our party. By the grace of God they will fail.”

Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike has said that he is not aware of Ex-VP, Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 Presidential ambition. Speaking during a recent interview on AIT, Wike disclosed that the is not aware that Atiku will be contesting the 2023 Presidential elections because the PDP is yet to zone the position. “I’m not aware of Atiku’s move because the PDP has not yet zoned the presidency.” Wike also weighed in on the recent crisis rocking the party adding that that it was not out of place for a political party to have internal problems. “I use to be afraid of possibility of an implosion and that could have been the end of the party. But what I saw on Monday gave me a lot of confidence for the first time.” He, however praised the Governors of the party for coming together to map out a solution to the issue. https://politicsnigeria.com/pdp-crisis-im-not-aware-of-atikus-2023-presidential-ambition-wike/

From Romanus Ugwu, Abuja The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) took a new twist yesterday as the party announced the suspension of its planned local government and state congresses pending the outcome of an appeal committee set up to address complaints that have trailed the exercise. National Secretary, APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, John Akpanudoedehe, who inaugurated the Wards Congresses Appeals Committee said the party had jettisoned the idea of going ahead with local government and state congresses untill issues that arose from the ward congresses were addressed. The inauguration of the appeal committee has, however, been greeted with apprehension by some party faithful who faulted the refusal of the party’s leadership to give either terms of references or duration that the committee would operate. Daily Sun learnt that only 14 states have petitioned the party’s national leadership on the outcome of the ward congresses even as some of states are yet to submit reports on their ward congresses. It was also gathered that the Caretaker Committee of the party plans to send a five-man committee each to the 14 states that sent in petitions. The Wards Congresses Appeals Committee would hold five days behind schedule as it was initially billed to sit between August 2 and 7, according to the party’s timetable and schedule of activities. Speaking after inaugurating the committee, Akpanudoedehe, who represented the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Governor Mai Buni, said: “Let me make this announcement that the outcome of the committee’s report will determine when we are going to fix the date for local government and state congresses.” He reminded party faithful that as a family, differences should be handled with the understanding that no dispute is worth the destruction of the house that they jointly erected. “In the past few days, the media space has been filled with commentaries on the Supreme Court judgment in Jegede v. Akeredolu, with persons who should know better, coming out with very malicious and self-serving opinions, just to play on the gullibility of the public, while forgetting that our party is made up of very intelligent, sound and intellectually proficient persons who have seen beneath their grandstanding. “The majority judgment of the Supreme Court has strengthened the position of the CECPC and our Chairman. The minority judgment serves only for academic purposes, nothing more. The Attorney General of the Federation as the chief law officer of the federation has stated that we are on firm ground and advised that we proceed with the processes of the congresses. The Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) through their extensive legal apparatchik have x-rayed the generality of the issue in their meeting recently and have re-affirmed their support to the CECPC and urged it to proceed with the congresses as scheduled,” he said. The Caretaker Committee said though the wards congresses were relatively peaceful and successful, there was the need to constitute the Appeal Committee to smoothen minor crisis that arose in some states. “It is trite to note that, the Congresses to produce our party organs across had commenced on the July 31, 2021 and you will agree with me that it went substantially well. However, it is expected that wherever and whenever there’s a competition, of course, there is bound to be contestations. “Therefore, as an organisation based on rules and procedures, avenues and channels must be provided for party members who are dissatisfied with the processes to ventilate their grievances through an internal mechanism, hence this Wards Congresses Appeals Committee in the circumstance of this exercise.”

Wike should put Rivers money to a better use than wasting it on greed, selfishness and useless ventures such as this. so many people don't know Wike, all they know about him is that he is the Gov. of Rivers state building 8 flyovers on a single Road. Wike is a selfish man, he wants to always dictate for everybody, he wants to always be the one in charge, he doesn't care about anyone else but himself. Wike is the kind of man that would tell you what kind of food you and your family should cook in your home, even when he is not a member of the family and won't be dinning with your family. How can a single Gov. install and remove a national chairman of party as big as PDP? You reason am! OK, there was an LGA elections in Rivers state a few months ago, do you know that even Secondus the National chairman was not allowed by wike to even nominate a single candidate even to ward level? Secondus could not even nominate a councilor from his own ward. A national chairman! Wike arm twisted Secondus and other party stake holds in Rivers PDP. This is just a tip of the iceberg of who Wike is. |

A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has adjourned indefinitely a motion of interlocutory injunction by one Stephen Womah and six others, seeking the court to restrain the All Progressives Congress (APC) from conducting its ward congresses in State scheduled which was scheduled for July 31, 2021. Trial judge, Justice Ben Whyte, adjourned the matter yesterday, following an information by counsel to the first defendant, APC, Tuduru Edeh, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), that the matter had already been filed at the Court of Appeal, challenging the jurisdiction of the High Court to hear the matter. Edeh argued that the High Court could no longer go on with the matter because it had already been filed at the Appeal Court. He urged the lower court to stay proceedings on the matter until the case is decided by the Appeal Court. Counsel for the claimants, Henry Bello, opposed the application by his colleague, Edeh, saying that cases cited by defence counsel (Edeh) were different from the case at hand. Bello cited Odogwu and Odogwu, saying that it was not enough for a court to stay proceedings because a case was mentioned at the Court of Appeal. Ruling on the matter after two hours, trial judge, Justice Whyte adjourned the matter sine dine pending the determination of the matter at the Court of Appeal. Magnus Abe thinks this is 2019,Apc will deal with him this time

Okafor Ofiebor/Port Harcourt Less than 72 hours after the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State concluded what some of the members described as successful congress to elect ward executives, the party has been hit with a court injunction. The injunction, in which the Rivers chapter of APC was directed to maintain status quo in terms of its leadership in the state was granted by the court barely 24 hours after a vocal supporter and member of the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Ameachi camp of the party in the state, Chizi Enyi, alleged that the congresses were bedeviled with irregularities. The other faction of the party led by Senator Magnus Abe had also clearly distanced itself from the Congress. Members of the faction had complained that they were shut out of process, alleging that the State Secretariat of APC under the control of the Amaechi faction refused to allow them to buy nomination forms to contest for positions in the ward congresses. Abe had also appealed to his supporters to remain calm over their inability to collect forms meant for the party’s Ward Congress. Addressing his loyalists at an extraordinary Stakeholders Meeting held in Port Harcourt, Senator Abe told his supporters not to join issues with anyone as he will petition the National Caretaker Committee over their exclusion from the exercise. The former APC Governorship aspirant also told his supporters not be bothered about the congress, insisting that while the action of the rival faction were provocative, they should allow peace to reign in the party. Abe went further to express his confidence on the National Caretaker Committee of the party to address the irregularities and ensure that all party members in the state are fairly treated. But a representative from the national Secretariat, and head of the Team for sale of forms, Amina Gamawa, dismissed allegations by Abe’s supporters. She said the for five days she had been at State Secretariat waiting and asking Senator Abe to inform his supporters to come and collect forms with the original receipt as evidence of payment. But she said when they came they presented “photocopies against a clear directives from the national Secretariat to only accept original copies.” In what seem a worsening of the controversies, our correspondent sighted an injunction from a Port Harcourt High Court on Monday night, directing the party’s Caretaker Committee Chairman, Isaac Ogbogbula, to maintain status quo pending hearing and determination of motion on notice of interlocutory injunction. It has not been expressly verified whether Court injunction was directed at Senator Magnus Abe’s camp. Those behind the court injunction would be unveiled on Thursday, August 5, fixed by the court to entertain arguments on the motion for interlocutory injunction. However, posts by the pro-Abe camp in the social media platforms showed that they are comfortable with latest court injunction against the party. Spokesman of the party, Ogbonna Nwuke, a former lawmaker who represented Etche-Omuma federal constituency had earlier alleged that Senator Abe’s camp was shopping for a court injunction against the party last week. At the time of filing this report, the Isaac Ogbobula which is aligned to led Caretaker Committee has not reacted to the court injunction or given their interpretation of maintaining status quo.

Rivers chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said its congress held peacefully across all the wards in the State despite Senator Magnus Abe’s order that members should boycott the exercise. × Abe, a former Senator, on Friday urged APC members loyal to him to stay away from the ward congress in the interest of peace and tranquility. The APC, in a statement by its spokesperson, Chief Ogbonna Nwuke, immediately raised the alarm that Abe was shopping for an injunction to restrain the party from going ahead with its congress in Rivers. But Nwuke later said on Saturday that nothing obstructed the exercise, adding the party members trooped out at their various wards to partake in it. He said all party members were given equal opportunities to procure forms and vie for positions of their choice. He said: “The exercise went on peacefully. Party members participated in the congress. At that level party members came out to elect their ward executives. “Abe’s threat did not affect the exercise. What was critical was creating a level-playing field and for people to have access to forms for us to deepen our internal democracy. Party members had the opportunities to express their preferences.”
