- At a time many Nigerians are finding it very difficult to feed, the presidency is spending multi-million naira on kitchen utensils - The current ammount said to have been budgeted for spoons, forks and knives in one of the kitchens is enough to build five health centres in the country The government of President Muhammadu Buhari is to spend a whooping N100 million on kitchen utensils in 2017. This is part of the breakdown of the 2017 budget of growth and recovery which the president presented to a joint session of the National Assembly on December 14. The Sun reveals that a breakdown of the N42 billion budgeted for the State House in Aso Rock, shows that food, cooking gas and kitchen utensils would gulp over N850 million. The report specifically highlighted that N100, 820,300 is to be spent on the purchase of kitchen utensils such as forks and knives for use in Aso Rock. The budget, according to the report, further shows three expenditure items that relate to food and feeding. It gave these as food stuff and catering materials, purchase of canteen and kitchen equipment and cooking gas. While kitchen utensils will gulp N431 million, food stuff and catering materials will get N360 million and cooking gas will N63 million, according to the budget breakdown. It also states that the president’s office got N114,967,140.00 for food stuff, N100,820,300 for kitchen utensils and N21,600,000 million for cooking gas. In the office of the vice president, N53, 494,992 million is to be spent on foodstuff, N12,470,000 on kitchen utensils while N246,000 million would be spent on cooking gas. Food and its related expenditure for the office of the Chief of Staff got N16,282,000 as the Lagos Liaison office of the presidency will also spend N140,418,300 on food. In its own report, Premium Times said if the amount is approved by the National Assembly, it would mean that in three years, the presidency has spent half of a billion on catering items minus food and cooking gas. This amount, which it gives as N420 million, is enough to reverse the severe malnutrition that children in internally displaced persons camp are facing in the country as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency. Apart from this, the report said the amount can provide at least 20 basic health centres at N20 million each. https://www.naij.com/1080271-presidency-spend-n100m-kitchen-utensils-2017.html |
The Federal Government has started the payment of N30,000 monthly stipends for beneficiaries of the N-Power scheme, the job creation programme of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. Laolu Akande, the senior special assistant, media and publicity, office of the vice-president, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, December 30, stating that: “all successfully verified beneficiaries who have provided bank accounts are being processed for payment’’. According to him “some beneficiaries will receive their first stipends on December 30.’’ Akande said the process of payment would continue after the New Year public holiday, urging beneficiaries of subsequent batch of the scheme to take their virtual training seriously. He also encouraged states who had yet to conclude the physical verification process to do so, “as that would enable the N-Power beneficiaries in those states to draw from its benefits & empowerment offers.’’ The N-Power programme is designed to engage the massive numbers of unemployed Nigerian graduates from tertiary institutions across the country. The unemployed graduates selected for the N-POWER programme are given assignments that will help to address issues in schools, hospitals and other areas in communities across the country. A total of 150,000 out of the 200,000 selected in the first phase of the scheme would be deployed as support teachers to help address shortage of teachers in schools at the basic and secondary levels. Another 30, 000 graduates would work as extension workers in various communities which will expectedly aid the government’s diversification agenda. Meanwhile, the federal government has confirmed the release of N25billion funds for the payment of N5,000 monthly stipends to unemployed graduates. The Minister of State for Budget and National Planning Zainab Ahmed said, the funds were for the social intervention programmes of the administration and she added that an additional N40billion would also soon be released to the initial N25billion. https://www.naij.com/1080260-fg-start-payment-n30000-monthly-stipends-n-power-beneficiaries.html |
President Muhammadu Buhari has said his refusal to adhere to an advice from the IMF, World Bank to devalue the Naira and increase prices of fuel and flour, led to the coup against him as military the Head of State in 1985. Buhari speaking on Friday night, December 30, when he was hosted in Abuja by the Army at the Guards Brigade Regimental Dinner and presented with the captured Boko Haram flag said:presented with the captured Boko Haram flag said: "I refused and gave my reasons and the next thing I knew I was removed and detained for three and half years. “As a civilian president I will do my best and I’m telling you all these because you are part of the leadership of this great country and God willing we will remain great.” The president also stated he was conversant with the problems of the military having spent over 25 years in service. He challenged the Nigerian army to ensure the unity of the country despite what he described as “political madness in the North East, the Niger Delta or in the East” of the country. The president and the Army commanders however kept silent on Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau’s denial of his defeat in a new video. Buhari became in charge of Nigeria on December 31, 1983, after he and his loyalists overthrew the government of Shehu Shagari. However, on August 27, 1985, Buhari’s rule was ended by the Chief of Army Staff, IBB, who was a part of Buhari’s team and one of the key actors in 1983 coup. The president had earlier said he knew Babangida was planning the coup against him. It may sound incredible, but they discussed it together with him at Buhari’s office.

- Asari Dokubo has accused agents of President Muhammadu Buhari and Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai of allegedly causing the unrest in the southern part of the northern state - Dokubo condemns the attacks on Christians and charges them to retaliate against those killing them in Southern Kaduna Asari Dokubo says residents of Southern Kaduna should retaliate to balance the terror in the region. Mujahid Asari Dokubo, an ex-militant and leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, has urged Christians in southern Kaduna to defend themselves in the recent killings in that region of the northern state. The Punch reports that Asari Dokubo made the call in a statement by his spokesperson Rex Anighoro in Abuja. He also condemned the killing of Christians and said the retaliation was needed to balance the terror in the region allegedly supervised by agents of state governor Nasir El Rufai and President Muhammadu Buhari. The statement titled “Buhari is a Futa Jallon Jihadist” read: “The Muhammadu Buhari and El Rufai-enabled ongoing genocide in Southern Kaduna is a supremacist and neo-colonialist conquest on the minorities of Northern Nigeria and by extension on all minorities in Nigeria. “Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari and the Niger Delta People Salvation Front and Niger Delta People Volunteer Force call all people of Southern Kaduna to defend themselves and balance the terror foisted on them by Buhari and El Rufai’s agents. “We call on all minorities in the North and across the Nigerian union to mobilise support for the people of Southern Kaduna earmarked for extermination by the Gambari and Futa Jallon expansionists. “Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari and the Niger Delta People Salvation Front and Niger Delta People Volunteer Force stand with the people of Southern Kaduna.” Meanwhile, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has sued the Nigerian government to court over the killings in Kaduna state. https://www.naij.com/1080235-southern-kaduna-killings-asari-dokubo-urges-retaliation-residents.html

As far as I am concerned, there is no disparity between a man and a woman; I am talking from civil rights position. When you look at Africa where we come from, women have always been the factor used in the uplifting of the family. A woman grows, gets married and brings some of the wealth from her husband’s place. But none of the men will reject such wealth because it is coming from their sister. But, when it comes to inheritance, she will be rejected; that is hypocrisy of the highest order. When we were younger, our sisters would be in the kitchen with our mother to cook. When the food was done, our sisters would come to where we were playing football to invite us to come and take our lunch. So, why should such sisters not have a share in her father’s inheritance? The Sultan of Sokoto should not relate the issue of inheritance to religion. Religion calls for moderation and love and we should be able to do doing things from a civilised point of view; we should stop this archaic thinking. Why would you say the inheritance from the father should be for the men alone? The woman is also a child given to the man by God. So, she deserves absolute right to her father’s property too. To deny a woman the right of inheritance to part of her father’s property is immoral. In the critical moment of a man’s life, it is the daughter that will be around to take care of him. The Sultan of Sokoto should moderate his thinking to modern times and he should know that there should be no discrimination in the area of inheritance. •Dr. Jackson Omenazu (Human rights activist and Chancellor, International Society for Social Justice and Human Rights) The Sultan of Sokoto is talking from a concept of theocracy; a government in which the clergy are fully in control. Nigeria is run by a President as a liberal democracy. It has, as part of its entire carriage, the principles of liberalism. Democracy itself accommodates several principles, one of which is the right to freedom from being discriminated against. Section 42 of the 1999 Constitution has it in clear terms to the effect that no one should be made to suffer discrimination on grounds of sex, religion or circumstances of birth. And I know that the constitution of this country, which is the grand norm of the geographical entity called Nigeria, supersedes or overrides any other instrument coming from any point down the ladder. Talking about the hierarchy of laws, where falls the geographical principle the Sultan was trying to allude to? This argument by the Sultan is not particular to the North where the Sultanate ought to terminate. Talking about Nigeria as a geographical entity, it is not the Sultan’s argument that ought to guide our jurisprudential thinking; it is the constitution, the grand, fundamental norm. So, when a theocratic principality is talking of an issue in governance where there are multiplicity of religious extractions, individual views should be treated and confined to that limitation. This is because it is coming from his views as an individual’s presumed theocratic overlord as opposed to the multiplicity of secular views of other religions. So, the Sultan’s views are no more than the views of each of the several religions that we have in this country and should be disregarded. Despite their painstaking effort to turn Nigeria into an Islamic state, they know in fact that the Christians in this country over-populate their Muslim thinking, though they are, by way of propaganda; trying to make the scenario look as though they are predominant. What the Sultan is saying violates Section 42 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, which allows all shades of opinions with regard to tribe, race and religion to be allowed to float. •Mr. Osom Makbere (Human rights lawyer and activist) The gender parity bill is sponsored by Senator Abiodun Olujimi from Ekiti State. The bill seeks to make a man and a woman the same. The bill also seeks to do a lot of terrible things, including banning the Quran and the Holy Bible, and even desecrating traditional institutions across the country. The bill seeks abolition of male only schools and female only schools and legalising of abortions and other evils. It is quite unfortunate that in some parts of this country, women are oppressed and dehumanised. The rights of widows are denied. And I want to state categorically as an Islamic scholar that Islam rejects this as something that is wicked and inhuman. Conversely, in some other places, women have their rights of inheritance upheld. They can inherit from their fathers, husbands and even children, if it happens that way. However, the bill that is seeking gender parity on inheritance is an assault to the Islamic law, which is part of the laws in this country. You know we operate a tripartite system of law in Nigeria. We have the common law, the regular courts, the customary court and the Sharia court, which are all recognised. I am sure the Sultan was deliberately quoted out of context to sound as if he is against women or against their rights to inheritance, which is far from the truth. •Sheikh Abdur-Rahman Ahmad (Chief Missioner of Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria) I have read the Sultan’s statement against the bill in the National Assembly, seeking equal rights of inheritance in favour of women. For me, there is nothing strange in the bill, as most of our laws provide for equal rights for all citizens. The position of his Eminence, Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, is not strange too, but a confirmation of the challenges that Nigeria faces as a nation: different laws for different citizens and obedience to same at the pleasure of the faith in question or powers that be. I wish Nigerians would all appreciate the challenges we have to manage our peaceful coexistence. The National Assembly needs to answer the question on obedience to our laws, stating clearly which law should take precedence; whether we should obey the laws of the land or that of our faith and how to also manage the question of inconsistencies of the laws. God created human beings equally and the question of inheritance should not be viewed differently. •Kwamkur Samuel (Director, Legal and Public Affairs, Christian Association of Nigeria) The highest law of the land already provides that there shall be no discrimination against anybody on account of sex. It is already there in Section 42 of the (1999) Constitution. But, the National Assembly should be very careful not to create more problems than the one they are trying to solve. A woman, as wife in a home, will lay claim to her husband’s property; she is going to lay claim to her family’s property too. Who is being discriminated against? Is it the man who has only one father’s property to inherit or the woman who has two chairs to inherit from both her husband’s and her father’s houses? You have to be very careful with this, particularly when it comes to real estate. I am not against the bill when it comes to husband’s property because of issues of chasing widows away from their late husbands’ homes. While I am not against their efforts, they should do a proper public hearing on this matter. •Mike Ahamba (A Senior Advocate of Nigeria) It is surprising to know that some people still don’t believe that men and women are equal under the law. This is due to cultural and religious beliefs in some areas; but it should not be so. Men and women are equal and they should enjoy equal rights in every area. Inheritance should not be an exemption. If a man and a woman are from the same family, then they should have equal rights to their inheritance because anything outside that is not acceptable. What the 1999 Constitution says is that no child, whether boy of girl, should be deprived of any right based on circumstances surrounding their birth. So, if any law is contrary to the provision of the constitution to the extent of its inconsistency, it is null and void. What I am saying invariably is that women and men should be allowed equal rights to inheritance. They are equal before the law and that is it. •Olusola Ogunleye (Chairperson, International Federation of Women Lawyers, Osun State chapter) http://punchng.com/sultan-sokoto-right-reject-gender-equality-bill/

Niger Delta Security Watch Organization of Nigerian, NDSWON, Ijaw Peoples Development Initiative, IPDI, and Foundation for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Crusade, FHRACC, yesterday, said the claim by the Presidency that the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, an umbrella group of traditional rulers, leaders and stakeholders of the coastal states of Niger Delta, had no power over of militants in the region was fallacious. The three groups in a joint statement by their leaders, Dickson Bekederemo, Austin Ozobo and Alaowei Cleric respectively, said if the forum led by former Federal Commissioner for Information and South-South leader, Chief Edwin Clark, former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah and former military governor of old Rivers State, HRM King Alfred Diete-Spiff, had no control over militants, they would not have listened to their pleas to cease hostilities. According to the statement: “To say that the elders and traditional rulers are not in control when pipelines are being blown off is not true. The corresponding attacks on oil facilities by the militants while dialogue was taking place was as a result of the failure of the Federal Government to stop repairs of damaged pipelines pending resolution of the issues that triggered off the agitation. This is a clear demonstration of hypocrisy. The militants would not have given PANDEF the authority to negotiate with the Federal Government and act on their behalf if they did not recognize the influence of their fathers over them. “The Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, Adaka Boro Avengers, Reformed Egbesu Fraternities, Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusaders, NDRC and other militant groups sheathed their swords based on the intervention of the leaders of the Niger Delta and gave them power of attorney to represent them. So, how can the Presidency say that it is searching for the true Niger Delta leaders? Who are the leaders they are looking for that are not in PANDEF?” “We were shocked by a statement credited to Mr. President that the Presidency has allegedly discarded the Pan Niger Delta Leaders Forum and has commenced a fresh search for Niger Delta leaders with control over the militants. We view this statement as a calculated attempt by the President to unjustifiably claim that he is ready to dialogue with the Niger Delta people, while in the real sense, he is evading every avenue for dialogue. We hope that Mr. President should not use this as an excuse to militarize the region. “It is common knowledge that when the President called for dialogue, the Niger Delta armed agitators authorized elders and traditional rulers to dialogue on behalf of the region. It was also the position of the agitators that while the dialogue process was ongoing, no repairs should be made on damaged pipelines until the contending issues were resolved. Common sense, demands that, where there is a disagreement between actual owner of a property and a constitutional trespasser relating to the usage of his property, and the actual owner insists on stoppage of the use of the property pending resolution of the issue of ownership; a reasonable and sensible constitutional trespasser ought to stop until the issues are addressed. The owners of the oil have said stop production until we agree on terms on how to live together as one. It is incumbent on Mr. President to adhere to this directive.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/12/n-delta-groups-fault-presidency-stand-dialogue/ |

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared January 8 2017 national day of mourning over Southern Kaduna killings. This came as its commended President Muhammadu Buhari for waging war against Boko Haram fundamentalists since his assumption in office, but decried his silence over the on-going genocide in the last few weeks’ Saying that Buhari’s silence was ‘perceived as official endorsement of the dastardly and ungodly acts.’and that the defense of the President’s silence and that the President has received briefing from the governor of Kaduna State over the matter was unacceptable, as governor was biased in handling of the continuous killings. These were made known in a statement directed by Rev. Dr. Samson Olasupo A Ayokunle, President CAN and signed by Rev. Dr. Musa Asake, CAN National General Secretary on Friday. The statement read ‘Though the church in Nigeria since 2009 has been subjected to a systemic genocide and persecution through the instrumentality of Islamic fundamentalists Boko Haram, leading to the killing of thousands of Christians and destruction of hundreds of churches, and over 50,000 houses, but the current unprecedented onslaught against Christians in southern Kaduna by the Islamic fundamentalists disguising as the Fulani herdsmen under the watch of Kaduna state governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and President Muhammadu Buhari has reached an alarming stage. While we commend President Muhammadu Buhari for waging war against Boko Haram fundamentalists since his Assumption of office, his silence over the on-going genocide in the last few weeks speaks volume over the perceived official endorsement of the dastardly and ungodly acts. The recent defense of the President’s silence that the President has received briefing from the governor of Kaduna State over the matter is unacceptable, because the Presidency knows that the people of the affected area had already protested against the governor’s unacceptable biased handling of the continuous killings. Common sense tells anyone that at that instance, the President has to more directly wade in because lives are involved. The continuous killings have shown that the Governor of Kaduna State lacks the will power to arrest the situation and bring it under effective control. We know that southern Kaduna has been under 24-hour curfew daily as directed by the governor, yet the enemies of the people are still prowling going from house to house killing defenseless people without government protection. The security operatives in the area appear to be turning blind eyes to the killings. They only rush to trouble spots after the perpetrators of the evils had performed their enterprise of killings and destruction of houses and farmlands. CAN has previously drawn attention to the imbalance in the appointments made in our security Institutions, hence we re-emphasize that leadership/ management of security institutions both at the national and state levels be reviewed to ensure a balance of Muslim and Christian Representation. Such balance, will build trust and confidence among all citizens of Nigeria in the Security empowered to protect our nation. We implore the state and federal government to increase their efforts in putting an end to these killings and as well ensure that those behind the killings are brought to book under the laws of our land and those affected to be compensated. In view of the present predicament, the President of CAN has directed that Sunday January 8 2017, should be declared national day of mourning by Christians including those in Diaspora. We are to pray fervently for our southern Kaduna brothers and sisters who are victims of these wanton killings and also for the peace of our dear country Nigeria. Therefore, all Christians are to dress in mourning attire of black clothes or dresses in all our church services on January 8, 2017. We are to pray that God who delivered the Jews from Haman should deliver Christians from Hamans in Nigeria. Not only that, all celebrations/merriments associated with the New Year are to be done low key in solidarity with our brethren in southern Kaduna who had lost their lives and who have been denied the privilege of celebrating the yuletide. An injustice to one is an injustice to all. Each State Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria should also address the press either on the 1st or 8th of January reading out the contents of this release. May God deliver our Land from the forces of darkness on rampage in Jesus’ name, amen. All Christians in Nigeria and on the global scene should speak against this ethnic/religious cleansing to wake up the Nigerian security agencies from their deliberate slumber to carry out their responsibilities. It is our prayer that the souls of all those that were slaughtered to rest in perfect peace. We pray that God will heal the wounds of their loved ones and all those that they left behind, and that God will strengthen and avenge them in the shortest time possible, for our God will never abandon or forsake His people. May we be comforted that help is on the way, let us completely trust and depend on Him holding on to His promises for our God is mighty and powerful and He will surely deliver us. Let me conclude this press statement by quoting from the poem of the German Pastor Martin Niemoller (1892-1984) during the brutal days of Adolf Hitler who pen down the following words in his famous poem: First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/12/southern-kaduna-killings-can-declares-jan-8-2017-national-day-of-mourning/ |

ABUJA— Details of how the Nigerian security agencies dismantled the leadership and stronghold of the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents emerged last night, with confirmation that the Nigerian leader of the sect, Abu Musab al-Barnawi, had been captured three months before the fall of Sambisa forest to Nigerian troops. A top security official confirmed to Vanguard that Abu Musab al-Barnawi, a top Boko Haram and ISIS leader, was rated by the United States as the world’s third most wanted terrorist and a major threat to world peace. Al-Barnawi, who was spokesman for the Nigerian-based Islamists, was declared Nigerian leader of Boko Haram last August and had been featured in the latest issue of an IS magazine. Al-Barnawi arrested 3 months ago The source revealed that the Nigerian security agency successfully arrested the terrorist and took him into custody about three months ago, paving the way for the sacking of the Boko Haram stronghold in the Sambisa forest. The source said: “The suspect, who was responsible for major killings, kidnap of locals and foreigners between 2012 and 2015, is in our custody. “In fact, when the rest of the world got to know that the key terrorist had been captured by us, they had been sending their officials to come and interrogate him in our custody. “We had prepared adequately for the arrest of the suspect, who is the third most wanted terrorist in the world, before the takeover of the Sambisa forest by the Nigerian troops.’’ The source also confirmed that unspecified Boko Haram leaders and fighters were fleeing into other parts of Nigeria to escape the fire power of the military who vowed to fish them out wherever they might be hiding. “We will smoke them out wherever they may be fleeing to,” the official vowed. According to the official, it is such a high level of professionalism and coordination that enabled the DSS to foil a major terrorist attack in the United States of America about six months ago, which saved lives and property in that country. “It was such a feat that the US President had to send a commendation message to his Nigerian counterpart, Muhammadu Buhari,” the official said, pointing out that the DSS was a notch ahead in terms of expertise and professionalism. “We can say without equivocation that we are high up there in terms of professionalism in the intelligence community and we have made a significant impact in nipping in the bud major incidents that would have posed major threats to the country,” the official said. He pointed out that because of the excellent work being done by the DSS under the present administration, major countries of the world now turned to the agency for information and accord it more respect and acceptance than in the previous years. No in-fighting among security agencies The official repudiated the notion that the DSS and other security agencies in the country are at war, pointing out that there was nothing of such. The official said: “We work together for the common interest of the nation and its people. There is no in-fighting among the security agencies even though there may some misunderstanding at times. “But it must be made clear that we are properly coordinated and united to the extent that every action to be taken by the government is intelligence-based.” AMAC marshal nabs fleeing Boko Haram member in Abuja Meanwhile, personnel of a security outfit recently established by Abuja Municipal Area Council, known as AMAC Marshal, have apprehended a middle-aged man suspected to be one of the fleeing members of the Boko Haram sect, in Abuja. A statement by spokesman of AMAC, Marshal Kingsley Madaki, last night in Abuja, said the suspect, who gave his name as Usman, was nabbed at 4:30pm in Utako market shortly after he arrived the premises “with a Qur’an and a chaplet on his neck, while trying to lobby people in the market.” The statement said the suspected Boko Haram member had, however, “confessed that there are so many of his colleagues out there in the city to unleash mayhem on innocent residents.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/12/dismantled-boko-haram-leadership-dss/ |
Femi Fani-Kayode has accused Kaduna state governor of committing heinous crimes "Buhari is the last standing samurai of the oligarchy with the boldness to implement the Fulani agenda. He is doing it as fast as possible. The regime of Buhari is on a conquest mission. It is not hiding its intention because it believes that our strongholds have been spiritually damaged. What is going on has a spiritual precursor. They don't fight in the ordinary alone. The reason the Middle Belt is under massive siege is because they have been spiritually decimated. They have to pray AND FIGHT"- Ariyo Raphael Dare- Atoye. Mr. Dare-Atoye of the One Nigeria Group is absolutely right. Yet permit me to begin this contribution with an aside and a brief glimpse into the mindset of the enemy. Just before he murdered one dozen Germans in cold blood as they were making merry and doing their last minute Christmas shopping in a Berlin market square, Anis Amri, the infamous and thankfully deceased ISIS foot soldier, expressed the following sentiments in a pre-recorded video message. He said,"By God's will we will slaughter you like pigs. I swear we will slaughter you". These words reflect and convey nothing but unadulterated hate and pure venom. Such deep-seated hatred coupled with an unrelenting and hideous murderous intent is beyond human comprehension and it is bereft of any decency or humanity. When the Holy Bible speaks about our enemies hating us "with a perfect hatred" this is surely it. Simply put the creature that was known as Anis Amri, before he was summarily dispatched to meet his father the devil in hell courtesy of an Italian policeman's bullet, was nothing but a psychopathic and sociopathic beast. He was a cold-blooded murderer: an animal in human skin. And I daresay that so are all those that share his homicidal disposition and barbaric sentiments. He is a good example of what the civilized world is up against today and sadly Nigeria is not exempted. As a matter of fact we are even more afflicted by this monumental global challenge than most. Amir's words are an excellent example of the way that those that President-elect Donald J. Trump has described as the "attackers of humanity" feel about those of us who do not share their warped and primitive world view and who do not believe in the shameful misinterpretation of their religious faith. The words of the beast betrays the mindset of every radical Islamist jihadist in the world today. It also reflects the mindset of every Fulani militant and herdsman. If this were not the case how can one explain away the mindless genocide and carnage that the people of the south and the Middle Belt generally and the people of southern Kaduna particularly have been subjected to over the last one year. In southern Kaduna alone literally thousands of Christians, ethnic minorities and Shiite Muslims have been murdered in cold blood and have had their homes, farms, churches, properties, burial sites and holy places torched and burnt to the ground by the bloodthirsty aliens and Fulani hordes over that period of time. Trump's words also reveals the mindset of their loyal friend and self-acclaimed Fulani brother Nasir El-Rufai, the Governor of Kaduna state. I am surprised by some of the things that he has been saying lately. Someone should please tell him to stop talking rubbish. He will soon set this nation on fire with his tongue and if that ever happens he and his Fulani brothers will be the worst for it. Permit me to share one or two examples of what can only be described as a graphic manifestation of the inner most recesses of his utterly devious and twisted mind. After claiming that those that killed thousands of Christians in Southern Kaduna were not Nigerian Fulanis a few weeks ago and after publicly admitting that he funded them, he has now claimed that Niger Delta militants from the southern part of the country are planning to disguise as Fulani herdsmen and attack the people of southern Kaduna? This is false. And not only is it false but it is also a premeditated, calculated, irresponsible, incendiary, pernicious and dangerous mendacity. Worse still he has said it with malicious intent and thereby endangered the lives of even more people. Am I the only one that sees where all this is heading and what El Rufai is trying to achieve? Is it not obvious that he is trying to widen the conflict and spark off a sectarian and ethnic war in our country? I am convinced that my old friend has finally lost his mind! He should stop trying to cover up his heinous crimes in Southern Kaduna and desist from blaming the carnage on others. And given the amount of innocent blood that has been spilled in Southern Kaduna by his Fulani brothers I have to say that Nasir is a disgrace to Islam, a disgrace to the Fulani, a disgrace to Nigeria, a disgrace to the black man and a disgrace to humanity. He can never wash away all the blood that is on his hands either by omission or commission because his primary duty as the Chief Security Officer of Kaduna state is to protect the life and property of its citizens. In this respect and in virtually every other he has failed woefully. Shakespeare's Julius Caesar said "cowards die many times before their death but the valiant die but once". We must not be cowards, we must speak the truth boldly and we must say things as they are no matter whose ox is gored. And the truth is as follows. On Christmas eve, despite a three day government curfew, Goska and numerous other towns, communities and villages in Southern Kaduna were attacked by the Fulani militants and herdsmen yet again. In Goska they abused most of the girls before slaughtering them. Scores of innocent men, women and children, including the fourteen year old daughter of the former LGA Chairman of Jema, Barrister Gideon Morik, were butchered. I saw the picture of her battered head and body all over the social media and it sickened and enraged me. I kept asking myself what type of animals would do this to a child? What evil forest did these monstrous beasts crawl out of? Which of Dante's nine circles of hell did they come from? We have been praying for Southern Kaduna all along but with this last attack I am constrained to ask the following questions: when will we stop the praying and start the fighting? When will we begin to defend ourselves and those that are being subjected to these attacks? How many people have to be killed before we appreciate the fact that self-defence is a lawful and necessary recourse when it comes to preserving your life and that of your loved ones? There is no place for a violent and unprovoked attack on others and I have not advocated that but there is every place for a violent defence of your homes, wives, children and loved ones. That is a duty and a solemn obligation before God and before the law. Since both the state and the federal government have refused to protect or defend them when will the people of Southern Kaduna start defending themselves and when will we start helping them to do so? How many more little babies have to have their heads dashed against a wall and how many more infants and women have to be abused, have their throats cut open and blood drained? These questions are made all the more relevant given the fact that our President, who is himself a Fulani, has refused to condemn or even say anything about the latest series of attacks and killings. Things have got so bad that one Mr. Audu Maikori was forced to write the following on his twitter handle. He said,"The southern Kaduna killings are going on while the media is keeping mute! Houses razed and people killed during a curfew!!!!" The veracity of this assertion can hardly be disputed. The Nigerian media is complicit in this criminal conspiracy and these acts of genocide. I say this because hardly any newspaper will even mention the atrocities that are being committed in southern Kaduna and when they do they always play the whole thing down and treat it with levity. They refuse to tell the world about the sheer barbarity of the events and the real number of casualties that have been counted and recorded by eye-witnesses and those that are on the ground. Where one thousand people are killed they will say one hundred, where one hundred are killed they will say ten and where ten are killed they will say one. Why? Because in Nigeria under President Buhari only Fulani lives matter. Much of the mainstream media has been completely intimidated and cowered into a pitiful and nauseating silence. When they are not intimidated they are induced into suppressing reports, write-ups and essays (like this one) that expose the sheer carnage, the ugly realities and the bitter truth. They have forgotten what they were taught at journalism school: that facts are sacred and opinion is cheap. They have also forgotten the words of Rev. Martin Luther King jnr. when he said "the moment we are silent about the things that matter we begin to die". He also said "if you are not ready to die for something then you are not fit to live for anything". Again they have forgotten the words of our very own Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka. He said "the greatest threat to freedom is the absence of criticism". He also said "the man died in him who remained silent in the face of tyranny". The man has clearly died in many of our journalists and media practitioners in Nigeria today. We can only thank God for the social media because if not for that most of our mainstream newspapers and television stations would have convinced us that the horrific events that are taking place on a daily basis in Southern Kaduna are nothing but a cooked-up and fabricated fairy tale. ENUGU-LEADERSHIP of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has condemned, in strong terms, those advocating that their leader, Nnamdi Kanu should under secret trial as ruled by Justice Binta Nyako. Condemning especially some Yoruba who have been using the social media to say that it was meet that Kanu should be tried in camera, IPOB asks if they would have supported a secret trial for the late Yoruba leader, Chief Obafemi Awolowo. A statement signed by IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, in condemning those supporting secret trial for Nnamdi Kanu to learn from history and stop supporting evil. Here is the full statement of the organisation. “The indigenous people of Biafra IPOB worldwide and it’s leadership condemn those Nigerians supporting secret trial for mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case. “To all Yoruba and other Nigerian commentators supporting secret trial of Nnamdi Kanu. Stop your infantile digression and address this simple question. “Was Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s treason trial, mind you not treasonable felony, conducted in public or secret? Another question you must answer is this, was the then Action Group and today’s IPOB the same? Which of the two do you consider more dangerous, in view how the former spread anarchy through major Yoruba towns at the time? I put these questions to you in the hope that you are a student of history. “Some of you e-rats who forget that there is a discipline called history. It records major events of our lives and preserves such for posterity. “Chief Obafemi Awolowo was charged, tried in the open and convicted of the more serious charge of treason which is a capital offence. He was dumped in Calabar prison until Ojukwu released him. “Yes Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu an Igbo man and leader of Biafra granted pardon to Awolowo and released him to Yoruba people. It wasn’t Hausa Fulani North that released Chief Awolowo, it was a Biafran. “These are verifiable historical facts cleverly hidden by the hegemonic forgot to tell since the release of chief Awolowo, hence all of you e-rats continue to wallow in ignorance till date. “This is IPOB! We deconstruct our enemies with facts and figures that is why Nnamdi Kanu’s court case is a blessed opportunity for we Biafrans to lay bare before the world and human conscience everything wrong with the contraption called Nigeria and why it should not be one. “Some of you who are internet rats in support of secret trial must know that the godfather of Yoruba politics Chief Obafemi Awolowo was a convicted felon and that is a tag Nnamdi Kanu can never be associated with. “If Chief Awolowo that committed treason was tried in the public with full media attendance, how much more Nnamdi Kanu answering to the lesser charge of treasonable felony. “This is why white people assert with some degree of accuracy that black people cannot reason. This hypocritical attitude of some of you social commentators is indicative of the underlying pathological hatred you people have towards Igbo, which is largely driven by envy. “Our question to those who claim to be social media practitioners is this, would you have supported a secret trial for your Chief Obafemi Awolowo? “Within your predictable answer lies the reason why Nnamdi Kanu and his supporters don’t want anything to do with Nigeria. “You are vindictive, spiteful race of envious and cowards you are. Then why are you in support of secret trial for Kanu? Do you now see how terrible you saboteurs are as human beings? No wonder Hausa Fulani took Kwara State nobody say anything. May Chukwu Okike Abiama have mercy on you,” the organisation declares. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/12/ipob-blasts-yoruba-supporting-secret-trial-nnamdi-kanu/ |

Finally, Nigeria has won the war against Boko Haram insurgency as troops, on Friday, crushed the last enclave of the terrorists in the dreaded Sambisa forest in the North East geo-political zone of the country; and President Muhammadu Buhari is happy about it. The development has reportedly caused the insurgents to flee the forest while many were left dead. Excited by the development, President Buhari, in a personally signed goodwill message to the troops on Saturday, celebrated the Nigerian Armed Forces. While commending the gallantry of the Nigerian troops, the President also charged them to be more courageous and never give up. He then called on Nigerians to be supportive of the activities of the military by making available necessary information to them. The statement reads: “I am delighted at, and most proud of the gallant troops of the Nigerian Army, on receipt of the long-awaited and most gratifying news of the final crushing of Boko Haram terrorists in their last enclave in Sambisa Forest. “I want to use this opportunity to commend the determination, courage and resilience of troops of Operation Lafiya Dole at finally entering and crushing the remnants of the Boko Haram insurgents at “Camp Zero”, which is located deep within the heart of Sambisa Forest. “I was told by the Chief of Army Staff that the Camp fell at about 1:35pm on Friday, December 23, and that the terrorists are on the run, and no longer have a place to hide. I urge you to maintain the tempo by pursuing them and bringing them to justice. “I, therefore, call on all Nigerians to cooperate and support the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies by providing useful information that will expose all the terrorists hiding among the populace. “Further efforts should be intensified to locate and free our remaining Chibok girls still in captivity. May God be with them. “I also want to congratulate and commend the able leadership of the Nigerian Army in particular and indeed, that of the Armed Forces in general, for making this possible. This, no doubt, will go a long way in improving the security situation not only in the North East, but the country in general. But we must not let our guards down. “Once more, congratulations to our troops and all who, in one way or the other, contributed to this most commendable and momentous effort. May the Almighty continue to be with you. “I wish you a Merry Christmas and a most rewarding and peaceful Year 2017 ahead,” the President concluded. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/12/mission-accomplished-boko-haram-finally-crushed-buhari/

The United States of America has called on President Buhari to desist from human right abuses. The USA made the call following the release of a white paper by the Kaduna State government on the clash that happened between the Nigerian Army and Shiite Muslims. The US Department of State spoke through the Bureau of Public Affairs. The spokesperson, Mr John Kirby, said that the USA fully agrees with the White Paper’s recommendations. He said, “On Dec. 5th, the Kaduna State Government issued a long-awaited White Paper. “The document was related to clashes last year that resulted in the [neutralization] of 348 civilians and one soldier. “We fully agree with the White Paper’s recommendation. “Members of the military who were involved in the unlawful [neutralizations] of civilians must be punished appropriately. “That tragic event will soon clock one year and the Nigerian president has done nothing in this regard. “We, therefore, call on him to be diligent, transparent, and expeditious in following through on this recommendation.” Kirby said that the USA was also concerned with the Paper’s characterization of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria as an “insurgent group”. He said that the U.S. government would also want the president to obey court orders and release Ibrahim Zakzaky and his wife within 45 days. He called on the President to obey the court order which was issued on December 2nd, 2016. He said, “As the White Paper notes, the right to freedom of worship is a cherished constitutional right in Nigeria that must be protected. “We encourage the president of Nigeria and his government to support these fundamental principles, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or region. If the president obeys the USA, this will be the first time he’s bowing to international pressure.

The management of the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta has shut down the Accident and Emergency Unit to prevent further escalation of Lassa fever, which has claimed two lives, between last Friday and Sunday, in the hospital. The viral disease is also known as Lassa hemorrhagic fever. The management as part of steps to forestall the spread of the virus, the management said it had screened all the nurses working in the unit within the hospital and fumigated the whole area. The Public Relations Officer of the FMC, Abeokuta, Segun Orisajo, disclosed this to journalists in Abeokuta on Wednesday. Some activities at the hospital had been put on hold as medical personnel and patients deserted the hospital on Tuesday after the death of an assistant nursing officer, Adesuyi Abolanle and a serving corps member, Great Okusaga. Adesuyi was said to have attended to the corps member who had contacted the virus while working as morgue attendant in the hospital. Some workers had stayed away from work also on Tuesday when a medical report on the cause of death of Adesuyi done at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, was confirmed to be the Lassa fever virus. Following the action of the workers in the hospital, the management held a marathon meeting on Wednesday over the outbreak and precautionary measures were reportedly discussed. Orisajo said the Accident and Emergency Unit had been temporarily shut down for three days in order to effect basic changes. He said, “In order to forestall escalation of this Lassa fever virus, we have put in place some precautionary measures. “We have decontaminated and fumigated the place. Nurses have been screened, bedding have been sanitised and by tomorrow or Friday the place will be reopened. “It is to prevent further escalation of the virus. We have held a meeting this morning and we have told our nurses and doctors on the need for safety awareness.” http://punchng.com/lassa-fever-fmc-nurses-screened-affected-unit-shut/

Ekiti State governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has faulted the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu on reasons for the renewed electoral violence in the country, saying; “Violence returned to our electoral process because of INEC partisanship and manipulation of the electoral process in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC).” He said “rather than lamenting, the INEC chairman should return the electoral commission to what he met by detaching it from the APC, which INEC has obviously merged with,” adding that; “if INEC is neutral as it used to be before APC took power, there won’t be electoral violence.” In a statement issued on Wednesday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said; “There were elections in Nigeria between 2011 and 2015, and those elections were credible, such that Nigerians were sure that popular candidates and parties would emerge victorious because votes were allowed to count. Then, violence was no longer part of our electoral process. But sadly, this present INEC has destroyed all those gains and returned Nigeria to the era of ballot box snatching.” He said it was shameful that after casting their votes, votes counted and announced publicly, Nigerians now need to police their votes to collation centres to prevent figures already entered into relevant INEC forms from being altered. The governor, who counselled Professor Mahmood Yakubu to be mindful of his name and purge the electoral commission under him of partisanship and election manipulation, said; there was no way President Muhammadu Buhari would have been elected if INEC, under Prof Attahiru Jega was the way it is now. He questioned the rationale behind the jettisoning of the system introduced by Prof Jega, in which accreditation of voters is done at the same time in all polling units from 8am to 1pm while voting will commence after the number of accredited voters are known and counting of votes is done at the same time. “By returning to the old system of accreditation and voting at the same time, and destroying the credibility of our electoral process, such that unpopular candidates are now having edge over and above those acceptable to the people, INEC by itself caused the electoral violence witnessed in the last 12 months. “Even judges that will sit on election matters are now pre-arranged and picked even before the election, such that after using INEC and security agencies to pervert the will of the people, tribunals are used to authenticate the electoral fraud. “The reality therefore is that only INEC can put an end to electoral violence and the only way to do it is for the commission to be neutral,” he said.
