PoliticsLeave Ur University Certificate & Embrace Farming- Aregbesola Tells Graduatuates by Kemperor(op): 5:12pm On Jan 16, 2017
- Osun state governor, Rauf Aregbesola has advised university graduates to go into farming rather than seek white collar jobs.

- The governor said the best way to build Nigeria economy is to enourage interest in Agriculture

- The governors charged all Nigerians to invest in things that would enhance farming in the next five years

Osun state governor, Rauf Aregbesola has advised university graduates to dump their certificates and go back to farm, urging them to see agriculture as viable alternative to white collar job.

The governor said the call was necessary due to the menace of unemployment among Nigerian youths.

Osun state governor tells university graduates to start farming

Aregbesola who gave this speech during the 6th convocation ceremony of Fountain University, Osogbo, added that the present economic situation has shown Nigerians the need to encourage farming as the only alternative to crude oil, Daily Post reports.

He explained that there was no aspect of life that could do without agriculture, saying Nigerian graduates must henceforth stop searching for formal jobs that realistically remained elusive.

He called for productivity, resilience and hard-work among Nigerians, stressing that the present nation’s economy demands one to be self-employed.

The governor noted that there is no other alternative to sustain Nigerian economy than to build and encourage requisite interest in agriculture and brace up with anything that could promote food security.

The governor maintained that all Nigerians, as a matter of urgency should invest in things that would enhance farming in the next five years if truly the nation was ready to overcome her present economic challenges.

Lamenting the excess in the global oil market, which has brought about dwindling revenues to all tiers of government, Aregbesola emphasised the need for massive participation in agriculture.

“There is need for us, especially our young grandaunt’s to lead the nation in promoting agriculture as the only realistic surviving alternative to economy.

“We must not but embrace farming because it is only agriculture that has direct links to all aspects of life.

“Nigeria has grown to the stage through which her food production capacity must be urgently expanded to meet the general needs of the citizenry and as well enhance exportation.

“The time to enhance productivity has come. We must all embrace productivity. We must produce whatever we desire to consume”

Congratulating the graduating students, Aregbesola charged them to adapt to the virtues they acquired from the institution.

He called on them to get prepared for the challenges ahead and life after university which he described as “challenging.”

“You must all prepare the challenges ahead especially at this period of over saturated tendencies of labour market. You need grim determination to succeed. You must be rational and critical in the application of the knowledge you have acquired.
Aregbesola appealed to those who are perpetrating violence and criminality in the name of Islam to have a rethink, using the precious and reputable saying, “violence is directly antithetical to Islam.”

Meanwhile, Osun state government Tuesday, January 10, described the claims that some pensioners have set up a camp purposely for those calling themselves “Internally Displaced Pensioners” as another propaganda against Rauf Aregbesola’s administration.

The government, through a statement by the bureau of communication and strategy, which was signed by its Director, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, said if indeed, any camp was set up, it could not be for demand for payment of any pensions.

CrimeCourt Remands 2 Herdsmen Over Alleged Destruction Of Farm Crops by Kemperor(op): 4:54pm On Jan 16, 2017
An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday ordered the remand of one Momodu Rebo, 19, and Isiaka Idris, 22, in prison custody over alleged destruction of farm crops.
The police prosecutor, Samson Osobu, told the Court that the accused, and others now at large, committed the offence on January 11 at Apoto farm settlement, Eporo, in Emure-Ekiti.
Mr. Osobu alleged that police took guns and others offensive weapons from the accused.
He said that the offence is contrary to Section 4 (1) of Prohibition of Cattle and other Ruminant Grazing in Ekiti State Laws, 2016 and punishable under section 11 of the Ekiti State Kidnap and Terrorism (Prohibition) Law, 2015.
The prosecutor ‎said the accused, on the said date, unlawfully allowed their cattle to graze on farmland not designated as ranches, but belonging to Akinwale Bisi, Agbelegbe Dare and Paul Salami.
Mr. Osobu said the cattle thus damaged their crops, valued at eight hundred and fifty thousand naira (N850, 000).
He applied for a date of adjournment to file the case and send to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for legal advice.
The pleas of the accused were not taken, as their counsel, Ademola Okeya, sought for a short date of adjournment, pending the advice from the DPP office.

Chief Magistrate Idowu Ayenimo remanded the accused persons in prison custody, till the outcome of the advice from the DPP.
He adjourned the case to January 27 for further hearing.

CareerHeritage Bank Sacks ‘400’ Staff by Kemperor(op): 4:32pm On Jan 16, 2017
Heritage Bank has embarked on mass retrenchment of its workers with 400 staff sacked in December.
Investigations by the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Monday indicated that more workers are pencilled for sack.
NAN reports that the bank, in October 2014, acquired Enterprise Bank with about N56 billion ($281 million).
A top management source in the bank, who pleaded anonymity, said that the sack cut across the top, middle and low cadres.
He said that the mass sack was creating apprehension and fears among the remaining workers.
The source said that the remaining workers, especially workers from the former Enterprise Bank, feared they could be disengaged anytime.
He said that workers from the former Enterprise Bank were the most affected in the ongoing restructuring exercise embarked on to improve the bank’s profitability.
The bank embarked on the massive sack in spite of the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige’s directive to financial institutions to desist from the sacking spree.
Fela Ibidapo, the bank’s Head of Corporate Communications, however, told NAN that the figures were not correct.
Mr. Ibidapo said that the mass sack was not limited to the bank as it cut across all operators in the industry.
There have been media reports of the bank’s financial instability which the bank denied.

PoliticsGambia: West African Defence Chiefs Meet In Abuja by Kemperor(op): 9:25pm On Jan 15, 2017
By Joseph Erunke
ABUJA – AN indication of possible and imminent deployment of peace keeping troops to Gambia in the wake of ongoing electoral dispute involving the country’s President, Yahya Jammeh and his contender in the December 1 presidential election, Adama Barrow, appears glaring at the weekend, as the regional service chiefs held what source consider as strategic security meeting aimed at taking action in the tiniest West African nation.

ECOWAS CHIEFS OF DEFENCE STAFF BRAINSTORMS ON GAMBIAN POLITICAL IMPASSE
The meeting which Vanguard gathered, was at the instance of Nigeria, was hosted by its Chief of Defence Staff, Abayomi Olonisakin.

Although the press was not privy to the high-level West African security gathering in the Nigeria’s federal capital city, the official website of the Defence Headquarters confirmed the development through pictures of the event.

According to the pictures found on the Defence Headquarters’ site, those at the one-day event included the chairperson of ECOWAS Chief of Defence Staffs, Brigadier General Daniel Ziankahn of Liberia; CH Gueye of Senegal; ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Hajiya Salamatu; Vice President of the Commission; the Ghanian Chief of Defence Staff and principal staff officers from Defence, Army, Navy, and Air Force headquarters.

Sources said the meeting which was reportedly held at the Defence Headquarters, in Abuja, was part of the preparation for the inauguration of an ECOWAS Military Intervention Group, ECOMIG, expected to move ahead of the United Nations troops to be deplored after January 19 if President Jammeh fails to step down from power to Barrow, who reportedly won the election from an opposition party.

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, was said to have during the event, told the regional leaders and military chiefs of the region that the body would not rest in its oars in the pursuit of dialogue with the political leaders of Gambia to ensure peaceful transition of power in accordance with the Gambian’s constitution and the peoples will.

Although no communique was issued at the end of the meeting,it was gathered that West African security body however resolved that the various leaders should return to their countries but be on a stand-by for troops deployment should the need arises after January 19.

Recall that already, the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, has vowed to take all necessary actions to enforce the will of the Gambian people in the December 1p presidential election reportedly lost by Jammeh.

Mohammed Chambas, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel, UNOWAS, had hinted of ECOWAS’ resolve to take all necessary actions to enforce the results of the December 1, 2016 presidential election in the Gambia, while briefing the UN Security Council on the political and security situation in the region recently.

PoliticsHow Nigeria Can Come Out Of Recession – Kalu by Kemperor(op): 9:19pm On Jan 15, 2017
Former Abia State governor,  Dr  Orji  Uzor Kalu, has advised President Muhammad Buhari to source for funds, including from the International Monetary Fund(IMF) and inject same into the economy to enable the country come out of its current economic recession.
Such money, he reasoned, could be channeled into massive roads/bridges construction, and other infrastructural projects.

Dr Kalu gave the advice in Port Harcourt at the weekend, while fielding questions from newsmen during the official opening of Swiss Spirit Hotel.

According to him, majority of Nigerians are artisans, who could  become role players in the country’s economy, if the Federal Government could pay more attention to agriculture another non-oil sectors. Once the artisans are active, the economy will be active.” he said.

He posited that money spent on infrastructural development would eventually create more jobs for the  citizenry, and engage those who were already out of work.

The former governor explained that President Buhari’s experience as former military Head of State, places him in a position to take the country out of recession, and make  the economy to flourish once again.

He said 2017 had started on a promising note, indicating  that  the  economic growth would  be high this year, but appealed to the President to stimulate the economy “for the survival of Nigerians and the country.”

“Everybody knows that the country is very bad. Everybody knows that businesses are not doing well. So, in this kind of situation, it  behoves the Federal Government to create emergency laws, and authorization, from the National Assembly to be able to put stimulus immediately.
“The Federal Government should look for money from anywhere and pour into the economy. That money should go into road construction, bridges and into agriculture,” he said.

He dismissed the  belief  in some  quarters that the president is being controlled  by  a  cabal ,  adding, “he cannot allow himself to be controlled by forces that want his administration to fail.”

He said: “Buhari had been president before, it should  not accepted  with this issue of people controlling him because he was a  two-star army General  before he ruled us , he was Minister of Petroleum, he was Chairman of PTF and I advise that he should take  the bull by the horns, go immediately and conquer Nigeria, economically. Nigerians need to be conquered. People like us, who, day  before  yesterday, I was in PDP, yesterday, I was in PPA, today, I am  in APC, so  he needs to surprise us, that our people should be eating from the table. It is very important  because, if Nigerians don’t eat every day, it is dangerous for leadership.”
Kalu also believes that Buhari  has a competent team working with him, but urged him to address the needs of Nigerians.
He  advised Nigerians  not to wait for people to give them free money, adding, “it is not possible , people roll up their sleeves and  work for their money, this is how it is done, and the money will be sweeter  to spend.”
He urged Nigerians to invest in agriculture to create more job opportunities, as well as investing more in the non-oil sector, adding that “oil is toxic.”

PoliticsPressure! 6 Crucial Reasons Why Biafra Will Be Achieved by Kemperor(op): 1:13pm On Jan 15, 2017
This day, the 15th. of January, is very significant in Nigeria's history, reason being that it was on this day in 1970, that the Biafra war officially was called off.

Though the casualties of the war was higher on the Biafran side, the Nigerian civil war still has not killed many Igbo's quest and longing for a Republic.

Having said this, the resolve of pro-Biafrans have grown stronger over the years, and below are 6 crucial reasons why they stand a chance to actualize the dream that was born over over 50-years ago.

1. It is legal

When a people believe that they have been oppressed for too long, and cannot remain as part of the community in which they thrive, its is their right to request that they be set apart from the parent group.

There are justified reasons for secession, especially if it has to do with rectifying grave injustices, and violence is not involved in the process.

The pro-Biafra agitators are of the believe that they have a legal right to demand an exit, and they have continued to push vehemently for that which they believe in.

2. Foreign countries support

Just few months back, the struggle for the actualisation of a sovereign state of Biafra received a massive boost following the reported visit of a Phillippian envoy to Imo state.

According to Vanguard, the Phillippian Senate president’s aide, Lady Cynthia Esgurrna Touraha, was a guest of Imo Bilie Initiative (IBI) a non-governmental organization that is also strongly behind the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) getting justice in an Owerri high court.

The Phillippian was to witness the court proceedings on Thursday, March 31, 2016, in the suit filed by IBI against the federal government.

The president of IBI, Innocent Amadi, who spoke with journalists in Imo state, informed that the visitor was in the court to witness the day’s proceedings.

He said: "We were at the Federal High Court, Owerri, to keep our date, but we were told that the court always enjoyed one week break after the Easter festivities. Our case has been adjourned to May 2, 2016.

"We shall employ legal framework and diplomatic channels in fighting for the sovereign state of Biafra."

With more support such as this, the push for Biafra may not be a far cry.

3. International organization lending their voices

In 2015, the Organization of Emerging African States (OEAS), expressed its support to Biafra’s immediate from Nigeria, simultaneously presenting a list of demands to the Nigeria federal government.

The Organization that promotes self-determination and the end to colonial era boundaries in Africa has declared its support to the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and its adherents in a letter to the Nigeria federal government.

“Today the people of Biafra are locked in an emerging struggle with the Nigeria federal government, the inevitable result of which will be self-determination for Biafra. Unfortunately the Nigerian government has resorted to summary execution and detention of Biafran patriots. The situation will surely escalate unless immediate action is taken."

Asides the OEAS, many other groups have spoken in favour of the pro-Biafra agitators, and many more are still speaking for the course. Many are also listening to the pleas of the pro-Biafrans.

4. The power in Numbers

Without a doubt, there is a massive growth in size as regards pro-Biafra agitators and pro-Biafra groups.

Some argue that having too many groups might be a problem in itself, this is based on the theory that too many hands spoil the stew.

However, there is straight in numbers and the pro-Biafrans are using this mightily. As the numbers swell, confidence is built stronger and with such confidence, they say "victory is certain".

5. Aligning Niger Delta militants and the South South Support

Not too long ago, the IPOB, stated that Biafraland is not only the areas inhabited by the Igbo-speaking people of the country.

The IPOB claimed that Biafra spans from Itsekiriland on the western boundary with Oduduwa to Bakassi on the eastern boundary with the Cameroons, and also stretches from Idoma and Igala land on the northern boundary with Northern Nigeria to the Bight of Biafra which is South of the island of Bonny.

In a statement by the spokespersons of IPOB, Emma Nmezu and Dr. Clifford Chukwuemeka Iroanya, the pro-Biafra group pointed out that "in the present-day Nigeria, Biafra consists of Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, and Rivers states as well as Igbanke in Edo state, Igala in Kogi state, and Idoma in Benue state."

It said the above revelation showed that Biafra is not populated by the Igbo-speaking people, adding that the last head of state and commander-in-chief of Biafra was not from the Igbo-speaking area of Biafraland.

Similarly, MASSOB pledged its total allegiance to the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), along with other pro-Biafra groups operating in the Niger Delta region.

The Niger Delta Avengers has carried out a series of bombings in the Niger Delta region and also threatened to assassinate President Muhammadu Buhari if he visited Ogoniland in Rivers state.

Along with pledging allegiance to the militants, MASSOB also demanded the release of Radio Biafra Director Nnamdi Kanu.

A few months back, Comrade Joseph Evah, the national coordinator of the Ijaw Monitoring Group, said that the Niger Delta people were against the Igbos during the civil war but are now ready to support them in their agitation for an independent Biafra state.

In an interview with Vanguard, Evah said the Niger Delta people made amends by participating in the burial of the late Chief Chukwuemeka Ojukwu who championed the Biafra civil war.

He said the Igbos had forgiven the Niger Delta people which was why they were supporting them in their agitation.

If the aliance work, then the Biafra agitators might have found an answer to the questions they seek.

6. Peaceful, simple but tactical approach

In more recent times, secession has been approached from a no violence angle, the less report of violence by prio-Biafrans is a testimony to the fact that other very smart means are currently being employed to see that the dream is achieved.

Recently, the European Union (EU) said that though it holds strong diplomatic and economic relationship with Nigeria, the “protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms remains a priority for the EU and we encourage the authorities [Nigeria] in every occasion to respect such rights.”

The EU went on to caution the OEAS and Biafran that the push for self-determination and border changes must be carried out within the ambits of established international law.

It added that Biafra can only be recognized through international law and not through armed secession.

On this day, it is wise for us as a nation to sit back and sober reflect on the Biafra war. The tragic, historic event, gives every one of us the chance to ask ourselves the one true question: "is Biafra the answer?"

PoliticsWhy Is USA Concerned About Fighting Boko Haram Terrorists In Nigeria= TRUMP by Kemperor(op): 8:33am On Jan 15, 2017
Pointed questions raised by US president-elect Donald Trump’s transition team about America’s relations with Kenya and Africa have raised concern about how Africa will relate with the new administration.
Mr Trump’s transition panel has questioned why the US has been fighting Al-Shabaab for a decade yet it has not won, for example, raised concerns on how the money that Washington donates to various causes in Africa is spent; wondered whether Big Sam is serious in doing business with Africa among other concerns.
In a questionnaire that the transition team sent to the US state department, whose contents were published on Friday by the
New York Times, a number of questions are raised and analysts say they are a pointer to the attitude Mr Trump will have towards Africa when he is sworn in to run the White House.
One question goes: “We’ve been fighting al-Shabaab for a decade, why haven’t we won?”
Then another: “How does US business compete with other nations in Africa? Are we losing out to the Chinese?”
A further query: “With so much corruption in Africa, how much of our funding is stolen? Why should we spend these funds on Africa when we are suffering here in the US?”
They don’t end there. Another worry: “Most of Agoa (African Growth and Opportunity Act) imports are petroleum products, with the benefits going to national oil companies. Why do we support that massive benefit to corrupt regimes?”
There comes another worry relating to the state of affairs in Uganda.
“We’ve been hunting [Lord’s Resistance Army rebel group leader Joseph] Kony for years, is it worth the effort?” the document poses. “The LRA has never attacked US interests, why do we care? Is it worth the huge cash outlays? … Even the Ugandans are looking to stop searching for him, since they no longer view him as a threat, so why do we?”
And if you thought the Ebola disease that ravaged western Africa countries two years ago is dead and gone, Trump’s transitional team wants answers on the matter.
“How… do we prevent the next Ebola outbreak from hitting the US?”
The questions, contained in a four-page document, could be the clearest pointer to the way Mr Trump will be seeking to engage with Africa, a topic he hardly discussed in the campaign leading to his election in November 2016.
“[Outgoing President Barack] Obama was very messianic. And Trump has no desire to be a messiah for anyone. He’s just a businessman trying to make money, at least for the country,” Prof Macharia Munene, a professor of history and international relations at the United States International University, told the Nation on Saturday.
AMERICAN INTERESTS
The question on whether the US has let China gain more foothold in doing business with Africa, for instance, reveals that Mr Trump is gearing for a “scratch my back I scratch yours” relationship, according to Mr Zaddock Syong’oh, a former policy advisor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
“Mr Trump is giving top priority to American interests and his engagement with external players, whether it is Africa or Kenya as an individual country, saying the relationship must be on the basis that it is serving American interests. That is to say, his policy is based on a quid pro quo approach of ‘you scratch my back, I scratch yours; for every good thing I do to you, what is in it for me?’” said Mr Syong’oh.
It has never been so blatant and so open,” added Mr Syong’oh who has worked at the foreign affairs ministry for six years.
One of the likely consequences if the questions become policy will be a decline in the amount of money that the Trump administration will be channelling to Africa as aid.
During his reign between 2001 and 2009, President George Bush quadrupled the amount of monetary donations to African countries, according to the New York Times.
The newspaper adds that Mr Obama, Mr Bush’s successor, largely maintained the sums even as his administration was making cuts elsewhere.
“Even so, the amount of American aid in 2015 to other critical allies — Afghanistan (5.5 billion US dollars), Israel ($3.1 billion), Iraq ($1.8 billion) and Egypt ($1.4 billion) — far exceeded the approximately $8 billion for all of sub-Saharan Africa,” NYT reported.
If Mr Trump continues with his right-leaning tendencies exhibited during the campaigns, Prof Munene said, it is likely that funds coming in through Usaid may be slashed or halted altogether.
“There may be some thinking along with the white American conservatives who believe that any deal with any other country is a giveaway, without looking at the other side of it,” he said.
DOING A LOT OF BUSINESS
“These are businesspeople and they are going to be doing a lot of business. So, Kenyans should, in talking to the American officials, show them the business opportunities here. We need more investments than the so-called aid,” added Prof Munene.
If the question on the fight against al-Shabaab informs an equally blunt policy decision by the Trump administration, it will deal a major blow in Kenya’s efforts to fight the terror group as the US has previously been involved in, among other efforts, launching drone attacks that killed a number of al-Shabaab leaders.
Besides al-Shabaab, the questionnaire also seeks answers on why the US is concerned about fighting Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria. Its drafters wonder why the girls who were kidnapped by the militants in 2014 have not been rescued.
“If Mr Trump decides against fighting al-Shabaab and Boko Haram and all these terror groups, then it will of course have some effect on even US security itself, because the reason the US has been helping in fighting them is because it’s in its interest.
“And it’s possible that Mr Trump might do it more because he promised to rebuild the military; to make it bigger than it is,” explained Prof Munene.
So, what does the questionnaire from Mr Trump’s transition mean? Mr Syong’oh said it is normal for a new administration to ask questions about the engagements of its preceding regime.
“Basically, they are asking these questions so that they can have a basis for reviewing the current policies and the past policies so that they can develop new policies going forward,” he said.
Mr Syong’oh, currently a consultant, expressed optimism that despite Mr Trump’s habit of making decisions on the run, the questions will not turn into actionable policies given the legal regime in the US.
“What I know for sure is that the American state system is a highly structured system. Decision making processes are very, very structured and they go through a lot of stages,” he said.

PoliticsCatholic Priest With Loaded Rifle In Church Causes Uproar (photo) by Kemperor(op): 12:06am On Jan 15, 2017
A photo of a military catholic priest ministering at a podium with a rifle strapped to his arms has generated a social media debate.

The photo was taken in at the St. James Catholic Cathedral military base in Yobe state at the height of the Boko Haram insurgency.

The priest is seen with his Ak47 rifle strapped to his shoulders as he carries out his ministry to his congregation.

Some Nigerians reacting to the photo have commended the clergy man for being alert in church.

Others however, faulted the priest for carrying a gun in church.

They said the priest lacked the courage to believe that God can fight his battles.

Another group suggested that carrying guns to places of worship could help reduce insecurity in the country.

Where do you stand on the issue, do you think carrying guns to places of worship is the solution to insecurity in the country?

- Mr Dare Awoniyi has warned southerners not to take the crisis in the north for granted

- The Kogi-born public affairs analyst says the North is strategic to the country

- Awoniyi is the son of Late Sunday Awoniyi, the former chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum

A public affairs analyst and leader of thought in northern Nigeria, Mr Dare Awoniyi has warned southerners in Nigeria not to be indifferent about the crisis in the north.

He continued: ''We must turn this aggression into development. If we don't solve Nigeria's problems, it will destroy this country.''

Speaking on the book, Awoniyi said:''Religion is about God. When people decide to do for God what God is supposed to do for man, it becomes a problem.

''We cannot fight for God. It is an abuse of God and the concept of God to try to defend God. We should wait and let God defend us. If God is God, let him fight for himself.

''We must continue to think about where we go from here, what we do, with the information that is provided in the book and the instances of the forensic evidence provided in the book.

''We must go back to those values and ideals. When the masses are educated, they will be able to decide effectively what they want to engage it without being coerced into any untoward action.

''Education is the only basis by which sustainable economic development and growth can be effected in Nigeria.''

On his part, Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka lamented the fact that many Nigerians have Soyinka lamented the fact that many Nigerians have ''paid the ultimate price'' because of religion.

''There is a monster always waiting to pounce on innocent Nigerians under the name of religion.''

PoliticsRe: "Nnamdi Kanu Is A Fraudster, Was Into Yahoo Yahoo" - Uwazuruike by Kemperor: 6:52pm On Jan 12, 2017
- The indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) has replied the founder of MASSOB, Uwazurike, over the allegations he made against Nnamdi Kanu

- IPOB gave Uwazurike 4 days to provide evidence to back up his accusations or the group will bring out incriminating evidences against MASSOB’s founder

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Thursday, January 12, fired back at the founder of Movement of the Actualisation of Sovereign state of Biafra (MASSOB), Ralph Uwazurike over the allegations he made against Nnamdi Kanu.

IPOB asked Uwazuruike to substantiate his allegation of fraud against their leader Nnamdi Kanu, or get ready to be exposed.

The group in a press statement made available to Punch, in Awka, Anambra state by IPOB’s Deputy leader, Uche Mefor gave Uwazuruike four days to provide such information.

It maintained that if Uwazurike was unable to provide evidence, IPOB would bring incriminating evidence against the MASSOB founder that would make his followers to lynch him.

IPOB said that if Uwazurike had been committed to the restoration of Biafra as he made people believe, there wouldn’t have been need for the formation of other pro-Biafra liberation movements like IPOB, BZM and even his BIM.

The statement in parts reads: “On behalf of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and the entire Biafrans, we are giving Raphael Lebeanya Uwazuruike four days to provide evidence that Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu are fraudsters. The Punch newspaper on January 10, 2017, reported that Raphael Lebeanya Uwazuruike “described Nnamdi Kanu and his IPOB as fraudsters who are out to deceive gullible people.

“We in IPOB at this moment demand that Uwazuruike must provide evidence to prove that Nnamdi and IPOB members under his leadership are fraudsters. Uwuzuruike’s evidence must be proven beyond every reasonable doubt. The evidence must not be anecdotal or mere conjecture, but verifiable and provable acts of fraud carried out by either Mazi Nnamdi Kanu or members of IPOB.

“You are about to be unmasked big time. Your life will no longer be the same after the 15th of January 2017. Go and prepare for your final disgrace and exit from the efforts to restore Biafra. Our facts and evidence will speak for itself. You are about to understand why IPOB is a monster that consume enemies of Biafra both within and outside.

“At the end of this process even those that never knew before now would come to the inescapable conclusion that Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB are whiter than white and whiter than snow. You Lebeanya Uwazuruike will testify with your own mouth in public that Nnamdi Kanu and his IPOB has the divine mandate from the Most High Supreme Creator of the Universe Chukwu Okike Abiama púrú íme ihe nile to restore Biafra in truth and honesty.”

Meanwhile, the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu has been adjourned to Wednesday, February 10.

At the hearing on January 12, counsel to Kanu informed the court of an application by the defendant to squash the charges against him.

Ifeanyi Ejiofor said that the proof of evidence submitted before the court by the prosecution lacks ingredients of the charges against him.

PoliticsThe President Has Never Been In Charge - Matthew Kukah by Kemperor(op): 6:44pm On Jan 12, 2017
- Archbishop of Sokoto Diocese, Dr Matthew Kukah has always been an optimist in the future of Nigeria

- But Dr Kukah seems to have had a change of mind

- The Archbishop says he has never been so unsure of the future of Nigeria like now

The Archbishop of Sokoto Diocese, Dr Matthew Kukah has expressed doubt about the future of Nigeria.

Dr Kukah who made the statement at a book launch in Abuja today, January 12 however noted that the religious crisis in northern Nigeria cannot be understood, if effort is not made to go back to 100 years.

The event was the book launch of renowned professor and author, Olufemi Vaughan titled Religion and the Making of Nigeria.

The archbishop accused the northern ruling class of continuing to use religion as a cover to hold to power, adding that Nigeria have not been unable to separate criminality from religion.

''If somebody wants to murder in the name of God, if God gave you a licence and gave you a gun, we should able to say that well, that is not applicable here in Nigeria, you are a bloody criminal and you should go to prison.

''It has been impossible for us to prosecute anybody precisely because we have this belief that somehow people can actually and genuinely kill in the name of religion,'' Kukah said.

He continued: ''I think that we need to get our hands around the correlation between religion, development and constitutionalism

''We must understand the religion and violence in Nigeria, the fact that nobody is in charge. The fact that the president, let me put it that way, has never been in charge.

''And I am not talking about being in charge of the armed forces of Nigeria, I am talking about we know where we can go to in terms of appeal.''

On his part, Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka lamented the fact that many Nigerians have ''paid the ultimate price'' because of religion.

His words: ''The innocent ones are the ones who often pay the ultimate price in religious crisis. Even religious leaders cannot denounce the murdering acts of religion.

''Religion now induce trauma and anxiety instead of solace that it claims to give. Religion is the ironic product of human inadequacy.

''There is a monster always waiting to pounce on innocent Nigerians under the name of religion.''

Recently, investment banker, columnist and theater producer, Joseph Edgar stated that religion today is so wealthy that if care is not taken they can compete with the federal government naira for naira in some areas if allowed.
