The Hausa Community in Nnewi have finally gotten a land in Nnewi.

According to reports made available to [url]Anaedoonline.com[/url], the land is located along Ugwu Okwenu (Ugwu Akpati Ozo) road, Umudim Nnewi.

It will be recalled that earlier this year, we published a report about the plans by the Hausa Community in Nnewi to buy a land to build their own market and burial ground, where members can do their business and bury their d**d loved ones.

In the report, Alhaji Mohammed Diya, who is the Chief of Hausa Community in Nnewi said that they have met with Igwe of Nnewi, His Royal Highness, Igwe Kenneth Orizu, several times, asking for land, but he is yet to grant them their request.

A Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu, on Wednesday, July 3rd 2019, upheld the appeal filed by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in Suit No: CA/E/253/19, against the decision of the Federal High Court Awka Division judgment, presided over by Hon. Justice I B Gafai in suit No; FHC/AWK/CS/29/2019 which amongst others, ordered INEC to investigate Senator Ubah for electoral violence in the recently concluded Senatorial election for Anambra South Senatorial District.

The Appellate Court, today in its judgement agreed with the submissions of the learned Senior Advocate representing Senator Ifeanyi Ubah and held that the Federal High Court has no jurisdiction in post-election matters.

Hon. Justice Ignatius Igwe Agube JCA who presided and delivered the lead judgment of the Appellate Court further held that only the election petition tribunal is competent enough to hear and determine post-election disputes including issues bothering on alleged acts of electoral violence.

The Court of Appeal in Lagos has dismissed three appeals by suspected billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, also known as Evans, seeking to stop his trial at two high courts in Lagos State.

Evans had approached the appellate court to challenge the jurisdiction of the lower courts in the State to continue his trial.

However, a three-man panel of the Court of Appeal led by Justice Jummai Sankey held that Evans’ appeals against the Ikeja High Court were without merit.

Other Justices on the panel were: Justice Philomena Ekpe and Justice Muhammed Mustapha.

Report says, many have been burnt beyond recognition as a petroleum tanker spin out the road and exploded in Benue.

The accident took place at Ahumbe village along Aliade -Makurdi federal highway in Gwer East Local Government Area of the state at about 5pm.

As at the time of the report, the number of people killed has not been ascertained.

Some eyewitnesses said the casualty figures about 60.

According to another eyewitness, Mr. Austin Nembe, who spoke from the scene of the accident, said the tanker which was conveying fuel from the eastern part of the country, heading for Makurdi, lost control while trying to dodge a pothole and fell off the road.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the termination of the appointment of the Current Executive Secretary of the NHIS, Prof. Usman Yusuf and has approved the appointment of Prof. Mohammed Nasir Sambo as the new Executive Secretary.


This was made known in a statement on Monday night by Mrs Boade Akinola, the Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Health.

Recalls that Prof. Yusuf has been on administrative leave sequel to the crisis rocking the leadership of the lacklustre health agency.

According to the statement, the change at NHIS followed the recommendations in a report by an Independent Fact-Finding Panel on the leadership of the health agency

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Monday disclosed that it has over 400 witnesses willing to testify at the presidential election petition tribunal.

PDP’s lead counsel, Levi Uzeugwu made this disclosure while responding to a question by the tribunal chairman, Mohammed Garba, meant to help the tribunal arrange a timetable for the hearing of the substantive application.

Garba had asked the PDP counsel to state the number of witnesses they had so that the court would decide on the duration of time to be allowed for each party to cross examine the witnesses.

The opposition party is challenging the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja.

A 66-year-old woman, Mrs. Veronica Okwuogu has been burnt to death in Awka, Anambra state.

Mrs. Okwuogu who is a senior lawyer based in Awka was trapped in an inferno which happened in her residence at the residential quarters behind MACDONS Amuda village Awka in Awka South Local government area.

According to an anonymous source who is close to the family, it is alleged that the late Mrs. Okwuogu caught her grandson and Granddaughter(brother and younger sister) having sex in the house. The woman screamed out of shock, that was when the grandson caught her, tied her up, poured fuel on her and set her on fire.

The senior lawyer died from the injury and burns sustained from the fire incident.

The Presidential Committee on Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) has recommended that President Muhammadu Buhari signs the agreement with immediate effect.

The Committee gave the suggestion while submitting its report to the presidency on Thursday, in Abuja.

Recall that President Buhari had reneged in signing the document, hinging it on the possibility of it undermining local manufacturers and entrepreneurs.

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Thomas John, as Acting Alternate Chairman of the NNPC Governing Board.

The appointment was made known in a terse statement signed by the outgoing Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru on Tuesday, June 25.

Sources also disclosed that John is to replace Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, the immediate past Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, who was the former Alternate Chairman of the Board.

A 65-year-old man, Bayo Akinwete, was on Wednesday dragged before an Ado Ekiti Magistrate’s Court for allegedly raping his 5-year-old daughter (name withheld) severally.

The court presided over by Mrs Kehinde Awosika, also heard that Akinwete gave the small girl alcoholic drink to intoxicate her and perpetrate the crime.

Police prosecutor, Insp. Monica Ikebuilo told the court that Akinwete allegedly committed the offence on June 18, 2019, in Olorunsogo area of Ado-Ekiti within the Magisterial District.

According to the prosecutor, the victim told the police that she and her 9-year-old sister were living with their father, while their mother had abandoned them with him.
