The soldier also alleged that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria and that the US and UK governments sabotaged Jonathan's administration in collaboration with the APC.

Aretired Nigerian soldier has made alarming allegations, claiming that former President Muhammadu Buhari's administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC) undermined the fight against Boko Haram terrorists during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s government, allowing the terrorists to gain the upper hand against the country's armed forces.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the soldier stated that Jonathan's administration had made significant progress against Boko Haram with the help of foreign machinery from Ukraine, Russia, and retired soldiers from the United States.

However, when Buhari took office, he allegedly halted the foreign support, allowing Boko Haram to regroup and rearm.

The soldier also alleged that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria and that the US and UK governments sabotaged Jonathan's administration in collaboration with the APC.

The source provided details on how the Jonathan administration had acquired T-75 tanks from Ukraine and Russia, which were then transported to South Africa, where Nigerian soldiers were trained to operate them.

However, the APC allegedly informed the US and South African governments about the transaction, leading to the seizure of the plane used to transport the funds.

The soldier's allegations also include claims that Buhari's administration frustrated the military's efforts to combat Boko Haram, and that the government was aware of the terrorist group's activities and was using them against the army.

The source said: "In respect of this news trending about USAID, some of the funds raised for Africa were being used to fund Boko Haram.

“First of all, when Goodluck Jonathan was in power and we needed support from the US and Britain, they denied us, and Goodluck had to go to Ukraine and Russia to get all these T-75 tanks.

"Those tanks arrived in South Africa and the Nigerian Army could not operate them so they had to come with experts - retired soldiers there to teach Nigerian soldiers how to handle the tanks. They got all those things at their black-market level there.

“The point there is this, those guys requested for money, that they had to be paid six months arrears before going to Borno so that they could teach our soldiers. And it was not in naira, it was in dollars.

"They required Nigerian government to pay them there (in South Africa) so that they could teach us one or two things because we would get the equipment."

The former soldier’s allegations come amid growing scrutiny of USAID, which has faced allegations of misappropriating taxpayer funds.

US Congressman Scott Perry recently claimed that USAID had funded terrorist organisations, including Boko Haram.

Perry, a Republican representing Pennsylvania, made the claim during the inaugural hearing of the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency on 14 February 2025.

The session, titled, ‘The War on Waste: Stamping Out the Scourge of Improper Payments and Fraud,’ focused on allegations of financial mismanagement within US foreign aid programmes.

“Who gets some of that money? Does that name ring a bell to anybody in the room? Because your money, your money, $697 million annually, plus the shipments of cash funds in Madrasas, ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, ISIS Khorasan, terrorist training camps. That’s what it’s funding,” Perry said.

The former soldier explained that the administration of former President Jonathan had to secure the funds in cash and transport them to South Africa using Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor's plane.

Unfortunately, according to the source, the APC became aware of this and informed both the US and South African governments, leading to the plane and other assets being seized.

The ex-soldier said, "The APC even went to South Africa, even when the government of Nigeria was telling the government of South Africa that it was about security matter, that it was not something to be exposed.

“They (APC) just used it to frustrate us (soldiers) in the battle in North-East Nigeria. The government was not going to use the weapons against the people of Nigeria.”

The case involving Pastor Oritsejafor's plane centres around a controversial arms deal in 2014. The money, amounting to $9.3 million, was reportedly meant for purchasing arms for the Nigerian Intelligence Services.

This scandal led to the seizure of the plane and other assets.

Pastor Oritsejafor, who admitted owning the jet, denied any involvement or knowledge of the arms deal. He stated that the aircraft was a gift from his congregation and ministry partners and that he had leased it to another party at the time.

The incident caused diplomatic tensions between Nigeria and South Africa, with the Nigerian government insisting that the funds were for a security matter and should not have been exposed.

He said, "So, some of the experts were retired soldiers from the US but they worked with a private company. They managed to bring them to train 72 Airborne battalion. Immediately Buhari became the President, he stopped those guys and asked them to go back, stating that he did not want any foreign soldier on Nigerian soil.

"As at that time, we had already started pushing those terrorists far and we had the upper hand ahead of the 2015 election. But after President Buhari won the election, he sent those guys back and they provided mines that could destroy those tanks that were brought from Russia. They gave them anti-tank that can destroy those tanks.

"So those guys (terrorists) started using those weapons against Nigerian Army which gave them (Boko Haram) the upper hand.

"There's a video of Asari Dokubo saying that (Muammar) Gaddafi called him to join heads with Buhari for this presidency and he refused.

"Many of the generals who spoke, telling them the situation on the ground were either moved away or withdrawn. We believe there was sabotage from even the government for the army not to succeed. How many are Boko Haram terrorists if it is not the government sponsoring them, giving them information and using them against the army?

"Even when this kidnapping issue started in Kaduna, what happened? At the end of the day, they swapped those detainees with prisoners in Kuje Correctional Centre. The government knew what they were doing.”

These allegations raise questions about the role of the Buhari administration in the conflict with Boko Haram and highlight the need for further investigation into the matter.

According to Punch on Feb 15,A group of Nigerian police officers was recently apprehended for conducting an illegal operation, during which a substantial amount of money was recovered from their possession. The incident has sparked outrage and further concerns about corruption within the nation’s law enforcement system.

The officers, whose identities have not been disclosed, were arrested following allegations of unauthorized activities that reportedly targeted unsuspecting members of the public. According to authorities, the officers used their positions to extort money during the illegal operation.

Photos released by officials show stacks of cash allegedly seized from the arrested officers, underscoring the extent of their illicit activities. The denominations of the recovered money suggest that the victims were coerced into parting with significant sums under duress.

Sources within the police command revealed that an internal investigation led to the arrests. Law enforcement agencies have vowed to ensure a thorough probe into the matter to serve as a deterrent to other officers who might consider engaging in similar misconduct

In a statement addressing the incident, a senior police official condemned the actions of the arrested officers and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to eradicating corruption. “The Nigerian Police Force will not tolerate any act of misconduct by its personnel. Officers who engage in illegal activities will face the full weight of the law,” the official declared.

The recovered funds have been taken into evidence, and authorities are working to identify and compensate the victims of the illegal operation. This case has reignited calls for reforms within the police force, with citizens urging the government to address systemic issues that enable such acts, according to DAILY POST.

The incident also highlights the importance of public vigilance and the role of whistleblowers in exposing corruption. Human rights activists have called on the police hierarchy to enforce stricter measures to prevent future cases of misconduct and to rebuild public trust in law enforcement.

As investigations continue, Nigerians await further updates on the prosecution of the arrested officers and measures to strengthen accountability within the police force. This development serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need to reform the country’s law enforcement system.

The African country with the shortest people on the continent

Africa has a population of roughly 1.5 billion with over 3,000 different ethnic groups.

These tribes speak more than 2,100 different languages and practice a variety of religions, including those specific to their ethnic groups.

Some of the most well known of these tribes include the Berber, the Hausa and the Yoruba.

The Berbers are native to Northern Africa and are descended from pre-Arab people, whereas the Hausa are mostly located in Western Africa and are the continent's largest ethnic group.

The Yoruba are grouped south of the Sahara and became the most urbanised African civilisation before the arrival of Europeans.

Yet there is one tribe that stands out from all the rest due to one fascinating physical feature.

The Bambuti tribe, also know as Mbuti, are Africa's shortest tribe, averaging under 4 feet 6 inches (137 cm) in height.

By contrast the median height of African males is 168cm, while that for women is 158cm.

The Bambuti is a collective name for four populations of Ituri Pygmies who live in the Ituri Forest in Eastern Congo

Early Egyptian records suggest the Bambuti are probably the earliest inhabitants of Central Africa.

Many experts believe they are descended from the original Middle Stone Age expansion of anatomically modern humans.

They have been living in same area now for about 4,500 years and are nomadic hunters.

The tropical rain forest is their natural habitat, which provides them with all their basic needs - such as fresh water, food and clothing.

The tribe call themselves the "bamiki bandura", which means children of the forest.

Because the rain forest is so essential to their lifestyle, they revere it almost like a god that should be loved and praised.

The Bambuti live in simple huts that are covered with phrynium leaves and do not have a formal hierarchy.

This is Seven signs of high cholesterol that can show up during sleep - including dizziness and pain

High cholesterol often doesn't have any symptoms, which is why it is often known as a 'silent killer'
Woman lying awake in bed
Some symptoms are easier to spot in bed at night.
While high cholesterol often doesn't have noticeable symptoms, there are some warning signs that you could experience that may have you thinking about speaking to a doctor. Particularly at night, some red flags become more apparent when we lay still with little on our minds.

Chest pain is one of the biggest and most common problems you can face when dealing with heightened cholesterol. The sensation is due to a build-up of artery-clogging plaque that restricts blood flow to the heart and increases someone's risk of a heart attack.

Experiencing chest pain can be a scary feeling that is often easier to spot while lying down in bed. People could also suffer from dizziness when changing positions in bed if they are struggling with high cholesterol.

The feeling of light-headedness is due to reduced blood flow to the brain. A lack of blood flow through clogged arteries can also lead to feelings of restlessness, especially in your legs, reports the Mirror.

You may be more prone to restless leg syndrome (RLS) in the bedroom when dealing with high cholesterol. Research suggests a link between increased cholesterol levels and the risk of developing RLS, with studies showing that individuals diagnosed with the condition often have higher total LDL cholesterol levels (known as the 'bad' cholesterol) compared to those without the condition.

Aspirin "weakens the stomach's protective lining against stomach acid, making the stomach and intestines more vulnerable to ulcers, which can bleed," according to Harvard Health.

You should also talk to your doctor before discontinuing aspirin use if you have a history of heart attacks or stroke, Blaha adds.

Sugar affects your heart in several ways. And most of it comes down to cholesterol.

A 2016 review found that a high sugar intake increases the level of LDL (bad) cholesterol and decreases HDL (good) cholesterol levels. But why is LDL cholesterol so bad? Because it causes artery-clogging plaque that can damage your blood vessels and heart.

A diet high in sugar can also affect your heart by increasing:

Triglycerides. Sugary diets can increase triglycerides, a type of fat in your body. And having high levels of triglycerides raises your risk for heart disease.
Blood pressure. Sugar-laden diets may contribute to high blood pressure, which is also a risk factor for heart disease.
Inflammation. A sugar-rich diet can lead to chronic inflammation, which can stress your heart and blood vessels and increase the risk of heart disease.
Sugar can also cause excessive weight gain, leading to all the problems we mentioned. “A diet high in sugar can contribute to obesity,” Patton states. “And obesity drives up your risk of diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol — all of which can increase the risk of developing heart disease.”

Having too much sugar may also indicate that your diet isn’t as well-rounded as it should be. “A high-sugar diet is bad for you no matter what you weigh,” she adds. “If you eat a lot of sweets and processed foods, you’re probably not getting enough of the good stuff, like fruits, vegetables and whole grains that are part of a heart-healthy diet.”

How to cut back on sugar
Cutting back on sugar can take some effort (OK, a lot of effort), but it’s not impossible. For those counting at home, keep in mind: The American Heart Association recommends no more than the following:

100 calories (about 6 teaspoons) of added sugar per day for females
150 calories (about 9 teaspoons) per day for males
Patton offers these tips if you’re trying to reduce sugar in your diet to help your heart health:

Do away with sugary drinks
Sugar-sweetened beverages like soft drinks and juices are a major source of added sugar. According to an observational study done by the American Heart Association, consuming over 12 ounces of sugary drinks multiple times a day may increase triglycerides and lower the “good” cholesterol your body needs.
