@ OP and spydern thanks for being an inspiration to people like us. I'm supervising the construction of a 4 bedroom flat in Ondo state. The project is presently at the plastering stage for which I'm paying about N400,000(N180k for labour, 70 bags of cement @ N105,500, 7 trips of sand @ N52,500; water @N35K). However, prices I get from this forum has been of tremendous help in dealing with the workers on site and d engr, who has shown dubious tendencies. He gave me this quote for the construction of the soak-away;
Re excavation-N15,000. Sharp sand-N14,000. 9"blocks (290 pcs)- N39,150. 6" blocks. (50pcs)-N6,000. Cement (10bags)- N17,500.Labour- N 15,000.
Total, N106,500. Is this fair enough? Pls respond ASAP. God bless you all...

JideTheBlogger: when you are hunting for job, you will know that HND sucks**
HND doesn't suck young man. I hold one and I got two jobs at the same time ( one in a Federal Government parastatal and the other with an oil and gas company), 3 months after my NYSC, purely on merit. I only know God and no one else. All I needed was an opportunity to compete. I think this idea of HND/ B.Sc disparity is neither here nor there. If you are good and you have the opportunity to compete, with the grace of God, you will get a good job. Afterall, millions of university graduates are equally unemployed. And if I may add, the OP gave an erroneous impression that Polytechnic lecturers are deficient academic- wise. That's not totally true. I studied Mining Engineering at the Federal Polytechnic, Ado- Ekiti and there are FOUR Ph.D. Holders at the department. Go and cross-check! As a student, I've gone on field trips with University students, and it's clear most of them are not as good as we( polytechnic students) are. Infact, most of these univerisity students don't even have access to the equipment and laboratory my department has.

nagoma: I can now confirm what I suspected. Your question was rhetorical. All you wanted is how to assert the western judeo- christian propaganda concurrently going on with the war against Islam. 5 years you are talking about is like a minute in the day of human history. You can't isolate and compartmentalize events and interpret according to your caprices , leanings and interests. That is why I requested for a definition.the conspiracy , hypocrisy and evil machinations against Islam did not start 5 years ago and you and your masters can never destroy Islam. you did not poortray any smartness at all, one can always identify a demagogue. As if you understand The enlist language you so cherish and worship yourself - so long.
@ Nagoma, did you say conspiracy against islam? How? People who share your forsaken faith are killing innocent souls all over the world for no just cause, yet you say there is conspiracy against islam? In spite of the killings, the oppressed still don't see any reason for retaliation, simply because they value human life, yet you mention conspiracy? People are presenting incontrovertible facts, glaringly exposing your allah, Mohammad and religion as founded on evil yet you say conspiracy. You must be mentally impaired! Why I'm I even responding to this? Rubbish!!

nagoma: I am sorry you were a little slow in responding but I like your definition. Looking at it, I can see that another Nairalanders @ anataala has given sensible response to your question at 11.41 this morning on this thread. You will agree with me that we don't need to repeat especially when significant source of our information will be the same ( the Internet ) . One thing you will quickly realize both from your refinishing and from the information given by anataala is that your map of terrorism countries is too subjective and skewed. Now you know better. Thank you.
@ Nagoma, I don't know if you and Anataala have big problems with understanding English Language it's interpretation, or both. I'm not talking about unsubstantiated history that happened even before your great, great grand fathers were born. I'm talking about what a 5 year old kid knows and can hear from the news on daily basis, with pictorial evidences. I even drew your attention to the key words, apparently you didn't understand: 'dissidents with same ideology and belief'; 'force a change with government'; 'use of violence by groups against a government'. Of course I knew you won't answer me and try to dodge my questions, but I believe most Nairalanders have answers. Some of them have already given answers. SMH....

nagoma: When you define terrorism then we can talk.

"Unless you are clear about the definition of what you are talking about , your knowledge of it is meager and unsatisfactory kind" ( anon.)
@ Nagoma, I hardly talk about what I know nothing about. I hope these definitions will school you a little and compel you to answer my question
The Oxford Advanced Dictionary defined Terrorism as " the use of violence for political aims or to force a government to act, especially because of the fear it causes among the people. Beyond this shallow definition and going into more advanced definition, acceptable in security circles all over the world, Terrorism represents;
a) a special form of clandestine undeclared and unconventional warfare waged by a group of dissidents who share a common belief within a society, without any humanitarian restraints or rules
b) the use of violence either singularly or in groups, military and non-military, directed against government or individuals to cause or force a political change and ideology by one state against another or by a group of individual against the state.
Please note the key words. Can I have your answers now?

I have carefully read the topic as well as the comments, and my opinion goes to Mu2sa2, Lacasa, Nagoma, Pimps, whom I believe are muslims. From your comments, I undoubtedly know the kind of teachings your religion put in your mind, I know the way you reason, and I know that joining issues with you is like flogging a dead dog, it's a mere waste of energy. However, I need answers to this simple question from you; why is terrorism identified with Islam? Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Algeria, Sudan, Mali, Somalia and even Nigeria just to mention are places where Islamist terrorists are waging war. Why don't we have Christian terrorist around the world as well? I need your answers because I believe indeed, 'Islam is a religion of peace'. As for me, I will never be caught unawares. youngies: El-Rufai's New Book: Whoever Wins, I'll Run Aso Rock From My Farm - Obasanjo

After Olusegun Obasanjo failed to secure a third term in office, he boasted that 2007 and 2011 would be a “transition period”, as he would run the affairs of the country from his Ota Farm, irrespective of the fact that there would be a sitting president.

This has been revealed in a recently published memoir of an Obasanjo confidant and former minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai, entitled, “”.

The book recounts that though former president Obasanjo had singlehandedly ensured that the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua succeeded him in 2007, he nevertheless planned to administer the country from his Ota Farm. He described the 2007-2011 period as a transition because all his pointsmen, including the “economic team” would remain in office.

El-Rufai recalls the former president telling him thus: “Well, nothing will change, you know. I will be in Ota but we will be running things. Everything will remain the same, you know. You will remain in the government, the economic team will remain. Nothing will change. Only I will move to Ota and Yar’Adua will be here but we will be running things.”

When el-Rufai informed Obasanjo that he intended taking at least two years’ break from government business, the former president responded: “OK, well I just thought I should call you and explain to you that the next four years is just a transition period. The real change in government will happen in 2011. Not now.”

Obasanjo begged Atiku on his knees

El-Rufai also said in his seminal book, which will be launched at 10:30am on February 7, at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, that the former president begged his deputy on “bended knees,” for his political survival.

In the 627-page book, El-Rufai said on page 151, “The stakes were high enough for Obasanjo to swallow his considerable pride and go to Atiku on bended knees.

“Obasanjo had no problem going down on his knees to beg for what he thought was impossible to obtain any other way.”

This rare and calculated display of meekness came around 2003 when Obasanjo feared he could lose the People’s Democratic Party’s re-nomination bid, if he did not make peace with Atiku.

The book recounts that faced with the possibility of losing the PDP ticket to Atiku, who had rallied all the governors on the platform of the party, the former president paid his deputy an unscheduled visit in 2003.

“The political bricksmanship got so bad that Obasanjo had to visit Atiku’s residence unannounced to plead for Atiku’s support.

Upon arriving at his deputy’s residence, he reportedly knelt before Atiku and begged the vice-president to remain onside, thus guaranteeing the support of the 17 PDP governors. In return, Obasanjo had to agree to retain Atiku as his running mate (he was rumoured at the time to be considering an alternative),” the book revealed.

In his book, el-Rufai also queries the leadership recruitment processes, noting that it is at the root of the nation’s problems, as it sacrifices merit. He said that the choosing of the late Yar’Adua and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as president and vice-president by Obasanjo was “the final nail in the coffin of any meritocracy or track record of governance in Nigeria.

“President Obasanjo chose Umaru Yar’Adua whose ill-health, among other challenges, was known already constituted a serious impediment to the possibility of any inspired and energetic leadership. The view of many well-informed Nigerians is that Yar’Adua and his deputy, Goodluck Jonathan, emerged for no other discernable reasons than being ‘weak’ governors sympathetic to the ‘Third Term’ project and therefore handpicked as payback.

“The subsequent electoral imposition of Goodluck Jonathan as president in 2011 via military occupation and rigging has been unhelpful in raising leadership quality. Jonathan went into a presidential contest without a campaign manifesto, boasting of no experience, merit and any track record of previous performance other than wearing no shoes to school and his ‘good luck’.”

babagy82: This little hatred southerners are showing against we Northerners is a very serious issue that needs to be addressed. I am surrounded by good loving igbo people in the north. In fact, I really love them like my own people. We have been together with them for the past 15 years. Infact I never had a friend whom I loved like chidi ebere. But I think through Nairaland I have learnt that I'm just fooling my self. They will never like me, they are all the same.
Yet, SOME northerners in your shoes will be the first to hunt the southerners living amongst them and kill them when the demon in them flares up in the name of religious crisis, just as my foster father was killed in Kano in 1990 by our neighbours! I was almost killed alongside him, if not for the race for my life that made me run almost 400m into Sabon Gari! That memory will never leave me.
I hate to join the hatred talk between the muslim- dominated North and Christian- dominated South, because it is needless, childish, crude and just a mere waste of energy. You people can banter as you want, it doesn't change anything. However, this goes to my brothers from the North, if indeed you don't want to be generally labelled as terrorists because of the action of a few misguided elements amongst you, focus your energy towards exposing the terrorists among you, appreciate the efforts of the federal government at making life better for your region, one of which is the establishment of these 3 universities, which is glaringly needed, rather than attack the President for no just cause, or seek to grab power at all cost.

The bitter truth is, these attacks on the President and Boko Haram insurgency will only make things worse for the North, because due to BH, infrastructures in the zone are weakened, economy is nose-diving, investors are scarce, poverty and backwardness increase! Power deservedly and firmly rest with the south, at least for now. It's more of a divine arrangement, if you look at the ascendancy of GEJ to President, regardless of him being a "retarden" as Nagoma will always call him. This hatred and attacks are unwarranted and will ultimately achieve no result. The North has got a lot of work to do to re-build the Zone, rather than see all Southerners, or the President as an enemy, just because you are not in power. The fact is, the problems in the North were created by northerners and the people of the region also hold the key to the solution. Producing the president shouldn't be a priority. That's just my 50 cents o...

PoliticsWho Gets Your Presidential Vote In 2015? by kenzspunpy(op): 11:06am On Jan 08, 2013
I am bringing up this topic because of ground-swelling discussions and preparations for 2015 Presidential elections by the various interest parties. Even though the incumbent, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) has not declared any plan for 2015, it is a common knowledge that there are on- going underground moves towards his re-election. That the President knows about such moves or not is immaterial. In a similar vein, some Northern elements are already clamouring for return of power to the North at all costs, even though no one knows the candidates emerging from the North.

From my assessment, the President is likely going to seek re-election, regardless of widespread perceptions that he hasn't done much to deserve it. On the other side of this is the 'power must return' posture of some northern elites. While not sure of the would- be Presidential candidates, I have a feeling that the incumbent GEJ, alongside IBB, Atiku Abubakar, Buhari, who seems to be perennial aspirants, would vie. They may be joined by Northern governors like Babangida Aliyu, Sule Lamido, Isa Yuguda, Ibrahim Shema among others. Beyond my speculation, party affliations and considering that other candidates might emerge, who would you consider worthy of being Nigerian President for 2015? A critical question has emerged in the past that is their an ideal personality to lead this country? I would prefer that we back up our choice of candidate with reasons. Cheers!
PoliticsRe: 2015 Elections: South-south Group Abandons Jonathan, Begins Campaign For Atiku. by kenzspunpy(m): 9:31pm On Jan 07, 2013
Fatdon: A group in the South-South geo-political zone
of the country, Justice and Equity Coalition,
has kick-started what looks like an informal
campaign in support of the presidential
ambition of former Vice President, Atiku
Abubakar. According to a press statement made
available in Calabar on Friday and signed by
the coordinator of the group, Prince Victor
Okon, they observed that the country had
missed “the political ingenuity and authority
which Alhaji Atiku would have brought into national leadership at a crucial period like
this.” The statement pointed out that Atiku had, a
few years ago, raised the alarm on the
economic policy of the Federal Government,
which was denied by some presidential aides,
but later turned out to be true. According to
Prince Okon, Atiku having served for eight years as the vice president and criss-crossed
the nooks and crannies of the country, he was
better prepared and preferred as a
personality from the northern part of the
country whose quality could keep the country
as one. The statement continues: “As people from the
South-South region, we decided to root for
our son, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, during
the last presidential election. Now however,
we must carry our patriotism further by
acknowledging that Alhaji Atiku, who was the most tested candidate, but lost to sentiment,
be allowed to fix the country. This present
leadership has failed our people.”
