Seconded. @Jlakeside, The professor means well. Your major task I think will be to put up a formidable POF to the VO since the scholarship/assistantship are still in promissory stages. Best wishes!

. Good day, I need your opinion since you are ahead of me on the same path, I intend applying for engineering management, I have no serious work experience, am still serving(Nysc), will no work experience affect my eligibility in that course.

Yeah Engineering Management is a professional master's course. I'd rather you wait and work an couple of years in an engineering/technical setting preferably or change course. There are some course modules that won't make sense if you've not been part of a work system. Remember their education is more of applied knowledge thingy unlike Naija where you can cram up texts and pour to make grades. However, there's no harm in trying. If your pocket won't feel the application fee you can try. Good luck in your decision.

@Khalesi

Did you receive any medical pass update before your passport was requested?

I had 'passed' written against my medical column in my CIC account. But, I only noticed this when my passport was requested cos I wasn't logging in regularly to check. Hence I can't say categorically when that update was made.

Relax and wait for your passport to return with visa. I don't think they'll request your passport if it's not to issue visa

With upfront medicals you won't get the medical update by email. You can check the status on you CIC profile. From all indication it seems it's good news. Congratulations in advance! cheesy

Zionplace:
MY FEAR!!!

It is clear I would not be asked for any medicals since I have not stayed in Nigeria 12months consecutively.

My wife did upfront medical, i did not get any mail saying medical passed (or does it mean no pass update on medicals if is upfront?). Just after 1month, the only update we got is passport request.

I am kind of disturbed now, If any with this experience could help interprete it.

I applied to uOttawa and submitted my academic IELTS result. Language test requirement is program specific so you should check the school's website to see if your course of study has specific requirement.

Thanks for your response. Hubby is the principal applicant. That shouldn't be a problem then.

zandora:

Are you the principal applicant? If not then I suggest you wait first. When you've been sent your medical request you can do it anywhere, however when you're sent your PPR letter you'll be told to contact them if anything has changed such as your address. You'll then send an email to them informing them that while ur hubby is still in Nigeria, you're presently in canada studying hence they should transfer your request to Ottawa (also attach a copy of your student visa which shows proof of residency). They'll do that between 1 - 2 weeks.

Good luck to all applicants.

I have a question on FSW (though it seems you express- entry guys have pushed us aside here). We have our FSW application in progress, applied 24th Dec 2014 and waiting for medical request. However, I will be going to Canada this December for my Masters program, while hubby continues working here in Nigeria pending when the FSW clicks. Question is,
- should we send a mail to Accra office to update my own address?
- when they eventually request our passport, where will I send mine? To their office in Canada or all the way to Accra? If Accra, will it be ok staying in Canada without my passport?

Jesusdway, Zandora and anyone who's conversant with the FSW system kindly come to the rescue. Thanks!

Please what is your advise? you just attacked somebody that offer solution without providing one.

Shouldn't he attack the lady before? This is our major problem, we are quick to call on the name of God and pray and fast 365 days but the very next second we are quick to put up falsehood and act like it's all normal. HYPOCRISY! He's very correct with the attack I'm in support. shocked angry what happened to righteous living and Godliness? No wonder prayers are no longer answered. God be like ' see these scammers, they wan scam me with prayers, tithes and offerings'.

To your question, jejely state your situation the way it is. Find a co-sponsor if you think the funds on ground won't be enough to present to VO. It's not a do or die affair. Don't go messing with your destiny by meddling with lies. Even if it works now, it might backfire in future just when something great is about coming your way, that's my solemn belief. Nothing criminal about you being out of job since June. You're using the time to prepare for your studies simple! I quit my job since April, I had just about 500k in liquid fund, I was anxious my application won't fly but I didn't want to liquidate my financial investments yet cos of the interests I would forfeit. I explained every detail in my application. Guess what? I got my TRV approved within 12work days ( haven't seen any application that fast on Nairaland). I didn't even show any assets in real estate. They issued us 3yrs TRV for a program that lasts 2yrs.

My point is package the best you can with uprightness and God will cover your errors and colour your efforts! End of Sermon smiley

I'm still looking for accommodation o. Please when every other utility is covered in rent except hydro, what exactly is meant? It's usually stated thus: rent includes Heat, water, hot water. Hydro extra. Urgent response needed before your sister enters one chance.

Secondly, if I rent an unfurnished apartment how easily can I find where to buy furniture, transport and move them into the apartment. Do they have 'kabu-kabu' equivalent that can move stuff at an affordable rate?

You are welcome. Good points. I would still suggest applying for MSc or MBA if you can though. Have you considered uOttawa? They are a fully bilingual university and you could apply for a program there in French as well -- most of their programs are taught in both English and French. Look up their MSc in Management or their MBA. You could pick the French-taught option, in which case uOttawa would significantly reduce your tuition such that you pay the same amount as Canadian students. Also, uOttawa is located only about a ten-minute drive from the Quebec border so you would have access to a whole lot of francophone as well as anglophone job opportunities.

@thesoj you're so on point. You've spoken from a depth of knowledge. Thanks for sharing. Oya o Chigoziri seems uOttawa is the place for you after all smiley

I did upfront medical, do I inform the IOM I have submitted my application? Pls reply me.

Provided you uploaded your e-medical form which was given you after your upfront medicals before submitting your application, you won't need to inform IOM. They'll simply forward your test results to CIC to determine whether you passed or not. When CIC makes a decision they'll update the medical column on your profile as 'passed'.

When you'll need to contact IOM is if CIC sends you a medical request despite having done your upront and uploading the form.

If you applied online and they're requesting your passport without upfront medicals nor medical request then my guesses are;
1. You may have applied for a visa category that does not require you to stay in Canada beyond 6months
2. VO oversight

Hello house,

I've been a silent reader since part 8, and this thread has taught me a lot and kept me informed. It has been intriguing reading various people's victories & struggles to get a study permit.

I'm going to share my success story or at least add my information to this post so it's helpful to people who may need it.

Mode of application Online

Applied 11th August 2015

Biometrics 12th August 2015

Medical call 9th October 2015

Medical done 13th October 2015

Passports request 21st October 2015

Picked up passports 26th October 2015

School: Conestoga College (Mobile Solutions Development) PgD

Documents submitted:

Statements of accounts converted ($70,000CAD)

Receipt of school fees for a year ($13,980CAD)

No sponsors

All CIC forms

Work related documents (Letter of appointment, promotion, future employment letter)

Family documents (Siblings birth certificate)

Transcripts (Undergraduate and Masters degree and other certifications)

Police Character Certificate

SOP (Very solid SOP)

Also really good travel history (We've been to over 10 countries).

So my application was for myself and a sibling, (both students). This application was a bit different because we have lived in Nigeria for below 6 months and we were not sure we would need to do medicals but they requested it. For someone is in a similar situation, you will be asked to do medicals. Also, we both have a masters degree from the UK in Information Technology and our Undergraduate degree was in Human Resources (unrelated). We had to write a really solid SOP that talked about our background in management and our transition to  IT also, how a PGD will be significant in the growth of our career. We have zero study gap, so we didn't have to justify that.

In summary, I believe preparation was key to a successful application. Please read older posts, it helps. If it helps, we are 25 years old, single with no kids.

Special shout out to theSoj and every other contributor. You guys are awesome.

@Chigoziri, here's your cue. PGD after masters. Just justify it in your SOP.

If you can get some funding in form of scholarship or some other co-sponsor I think you should be fine.

As for the tie back, I see you have a proof of future job offer. Youve got to put in your best and pray for God's favour to cover up for the rest where you don't have any control.

Good luck.
