Best bet would be to convert to CAD in Canada at a forex booth. We use Califorex. Their rates are far better than banks. But you might want to monitor the CAD/USD performance and change when best value is in the offing.

For this kind of job/internship placements, one would expect this to be hosted on Google's page using one of their numerous statistical or data analysis tools. I do not expect this to be hosted on a third party site with some other floating adverts.
However, there is a caveat..

Note
Duration and start date of internship vary depending on the position.
By applying to this position your application is automatically submitted to the some other locations.
Our team will review applications on a rolling basis.
All hiring will be complete by the end of May 2018. Thank you for your patience while we consider your application.

That is to say, we might be taking your email address for some other online campaign things or marketing stuff, and you wont take u to court for that...

Hello Nairaland family.I am a silent reader even though i have asked few questions here and got awesome responses. God bless you all for all the wonderful contributions here.
To the seniors in the house and anyone who can help respond. we were told by a family friend that if the primary applicant eventually revoke his PR (my hubby) while we remain in Canada, we will eventually loose out from applying for citizenship in the future or even have issues because we are his dependent and he was the one that signed all there is to sign on our behalf . The plan was for us to all go and hubby returns back to Naija as he is not ready to move now. How true is this family friends information?. Also i know there are couple of families that go that route of hubby not staying but visiting , how does this work for them? what procedure did they follow. I will appreciate all your opinion please.

Thank you.

He can give up his permanent residency status voluntarily without affecting his dependents in any way. However, if he wishes not to give it up entirely, he can still try to meet the requirements needed to sustain his status by having a cumulative stay of at least 2yrs in 5yrs.

Please I have a question for my landed seniors here. How do I go about registering my kids for child care benefits? As an FSW PR are my kids eligible? Please advise. With the high costs of living here and all the taxes I will be paying I don't want to lose any benefits of these taxes oo
You can apply for Child tax benefit right away even though you haven't filed your tax yet. The application for CTB will require you to state you annual income for the 2yr period before you became a landed immigrant so as to have a basis to calculate your benefit.

Yes! I posted something yesterday, and will post again today. I want to talk about a few things we have been up to so far - SIN application, health card, etc. Hope to share that today.

Meanwhile, to my experienced egbons in the house, abeg, where can a housewife find assorted meat in Ottawa? grin grin

Thanks.

Oh you're in Ottawa?! I'm kinda new on this thread so I'm just skimming through the pages. I've been I Ottawa for almost 2yrs now. You can get assorted meat and fish/seafood from GreenFresh Supermarket. It's a Chinese store. When I mean assorted I mean you can even find frog meat.

You are so correct. It is difficult to get them to be serious, especially when "school" is in your home. Today was our first day. I told my son that he was starting school. Then when I asked him to sit down at the table, he was confused. Lol. But I started with things that he loves - colour red and elephants. I also gave him stickers when he did a good job and he loves rewards. We took a few breaks in between and kept the classes short. 15-20 minutes each class.

By the 3rd class, he was sitting at the table waiting for me to finish what I was doing, and come and join him!

I responded to the comment on abcmouse.com. It is an excellent resource and we have started using it. It will be one of the resources we use throughout the school year, and most importantly, at the end, we will take the assessment to make sure that he is where he is expected to be at 4 years. We are on the 30-day free trial, and will probably pay for the full year once the trial expires.

Thanks for mentioning the ABCmouse, I'll definitely explore that. I am also homeschooling my 3.5yr old daughter. She'll be 4 in January so the 31st Dec cut-off is a hard pinch on us. She has been attending preschool while I did my masters. Now I'm done and job hunting, we do our bit at home using some Kindergarten workbooks that are based on the Canada curriculum as a guide. So far she's keeping interested and learning.
All the best to every man and woman on this journey of settling-down-in-a- new-country.

I did upfront medicals...

I got a medical call today.. My kids also got letters for Medicals shocked

I thot my medicals covered for them?

Has anyone gone thru dis b4?

How much was charged for the kids?? I called Abuja Clinics(Where I did my upfront).. the person i Spoke to isnt sure the price for the kids but she believes its less than 20k.

Nawa oo!!!

Yes kids also undergo medicals. My daughter was only 1yr and half when we did ours. But for kids the rate is about half the adult rate because they only conduct physical examination for them.

Good day to you all,

Please house is it adviceable to use only investment statement as a proof of fund without bank statement? As the bulk of the money is invested about 99%. The money is enough to cover all expenses. I will appreciate your candid opinions.

It depends...If you're employed or running a profitable registered business then you can. All the SOA in my application had just N500k cash put together. the rest of funds were in different forms of financial investment. Of course they have to be investments that can easily be liquidated or whose maturity periods are before the commencement of your studies.

On the other hand if there's no seeming source of the invested funds, then it all becomes dicey.

Hello guys, I do not know where to start from. All I can say is Hallelujah to the Most high. My study permit has been approved, I applied March 8, 2016. I don’t know how to start but lemme start somewhere. I tacked my application June 1, 2016. It said processed passpprt has been dispatched from the Canada visa office to the Canada visa office Lagos on the 1st of june. I couldn’t believe it, I was so annoyed and frustrated. I was like the second time again.. I just dropped my phone and continued what I was doing , I started reading different forums because from the usual I know approval mail comes first. I have been downhearted since. I don’t know what led me to my mail this evening, I checked my updates and I saw the approval mail low and behold. It was sent since MAY 28, 2016. Am so so happy. GOD HAS DONE IT
I don’t know why I didn’t see the notification on my phone. Am so glad that my app has been approved, this is my second application. I also wish others awaiting their applications speedy approvals.

Lest I forget I want to say a BIG THANK YOU!!! To Thesoj, khalesi, team 12, rotex and all others am so grateful.
I was delayed once but delay isn’t denial my friends. Never give Up. Thank you once again

Congrats bro! Happy for you. Did I just read that you paid 2yrs tuition in full? Tell me that was to facilitate your application approval. Not to question your choices but I think you can structure your course registration to finish your graduate studies in a year (3sessions) or at most 4 sessions instead of six (2yrs)and save your money.

Is there not a place in canada where one can buy Nigerian food in bulk just like a place called Peckham in England.?

Bulk as in...wholesale? Hehehe...I don't know how much that bulk is but there are African stores here and there. Their stuff can be pricy but you won't even need to get most things from them. Other grocery stores also stock our normal food like Indomie brand of noodles, evaporated milk, corn meals, Ovaltine/Milo brands of beverages, yam, cassava tubers, our Naija kind of red-hot pepper etc, always remember to check for Afro-Carribean sections or International food sections in stores like Walmart or FoodBasics or Freshco. Eventually, All you might need from African stores are just things like crayfish and palm oil.

1.Your flight tickets /boarding pass
2.Your passport/Visa
3. Your admission letter/letter of acceptance
4. A proof of address of were you'll be spending your first couple nights until you get a place(a hotel reservation receipt is enough. But if you didn't reserve, get a friends full address(including postal code), and tell them you already rent a place and the landlord will be picking you from the airport. Not a big deal, but they just don't want you to come and wander about, for your safety and others especially now that's its winter. Good luck

Also include your tuition fee payment receipt.

Guys guys a quick one please. Will one be allowed to cross POE with the following foodstuffs :
1) Locust beans (Iru)
2)Garri
3)Melon (Egusi)
4)dry fish
5)wheat flour
6)beans
7)know magi

These items should pass (hopefully) try not to buy the Knorr Chicken cubes, just buy the classic one. They seem to have this phobia with the term 'chicken'. Even with indomie noodles, I had to empty every pack into ziploc bags cos of the chicken written on the packs. Eventually they didn't search my food luggage. Just a precautionary measure in order not to trigger their chicken by-product phobia.

And label each package to make searching easier for them (in case they choose to). Good luck!

Hello people, thank God the anxiety of preparation and travel is over. We arrived Ottawa in one piece.

A quick travel tip now I've got some time...for people hoping to pack food stuff from home, try to read the policies very well and contact others who had travelled. Any food item you think might trigger suspicion, do well to empty them in ziploc bags. That speaks Transparency!

I read somewhere on this thread where someone advised against declaring food items in your luggage. I'll like to counter that. Can you imagine what your fate would be if they decide to check? I declared mine, but had to underline the specific food items to avoid generalising their understanding. When immigrations/customs checked my form at POE, I was only asked what the food items were, I just said meal supplements crayfish, soybean powder, blah blah and I was passed.

I beg to digress a bit here...

Ladies/gents, the word is spelt 'defer' which means to postpone to a further period and not 'differ' which is a root word in difference. I see some use this in here repeatedly and I worry some may even apply for deferement using the wrong spelling.

why is it that you hardly come across a canadian university that offers an MSC in project management at the graduate level??

I think it's because Project Management alone is quite small and narrow to be a standalone course. Why don't you look at Engineering Management, you'll have project management 1 and 2 as course modules as well as other operations management courses. You can check Uni Ottawa and University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT).

Your major setback was the POF. From what you listed here, $13k school fees+$14k draft and N2m closing balance all sum up to about N6.5m. That's way too small for you and your girl. I applied with my daughter too. And we had nothing less than N18m. You need to boost yours. These VOs know that child care in Canny no be moin-moin. Day care alone per day will cost nothing less than $40/day, not to talk of housing suitable for a child. I know how many cheap apartments I've tried to engage landlords for, only to be told that they're not child friendly. So here's your task; make another budget with minimum monthly rent of $750, day care minimum monthly cost of $900, then feeding, clothing and miscellaneous at a rate by your discretion. Put your entire budget in a spreadsheet, each cost with associated CAD and Naira equivalent and the total fund available. You should be having funds exceeding your projected budget.

What program are you going for and what's the duration.
