U don't want to use fertilizers ..how will u improve crop yields??
..hope u are aware even even the seeds we buy are imported....we now use genetically modified crop that can stand against insect and disease so that losses will be reduced ..
it not necessary for all crops.

U will still get high yields.

Those crops mentioned grows well in red sands and we still get high yields.

No be every thing u apply fertilizers
PoliticsRe: Court Orders FG To Fix Price Of Goods, Petroleum Within 7 Days by khattab02: 4:02pm On Feb 08, 2024
advanceDNA:
The fertilizers used in planting them is a raw material and it's imported...in 2022 we spent a staggering $302 million on fertilizer import....

We are so heavily dependent on imports that the government should have known not to fvck with exchange rate ....they just thought floating the currency will make it fix itself....

They listen to IMF that doesn't wanna give them loan and also want to buy their oil and other resources for cheap price after destroying our naira
Agreed.

We can still produce the fertilizers here. We have some fertilizer companies.

The FG and some cabals knows what they get when they import what we can produce here, they also know what they can get when the mess with the exchange rate.

Beans, soya beans, groundnut, tomatoes, millet, okra, bitter leaves, spinach, cassava, sweet Potatoes and some others do not need fertilizer.

U can't subsidize production cost without fixing exchange rate and directly subsidize cost of important raw materials...

In many good countries subsidy exist on many products that all citizens use directly or indirectly....e.g fuel, sugar, wheat flour...
Azerbaijan, Morocco, algeria, Tunisia, Georgia provide subsidy on flour because almost everyone eats bread, pizza, burgers etc...so they end up controlling the prices of good mades with flour

It's only Nigeria that the useless, embezzling government want to remove all subsidy so they can have more to steal....

for their empty brain...once they build road and round about they have distributed the common wealth
Tor u have said it na..

Again not all products we import raw material.

Rice, garri, sugar, flour, oil, tomatoes etc all these we can produce and have their raw materials. But our government are damn too lazy to look into them. Hence playing politics and embezzling

JuanDeDios:
They can't. Prices are determined by market forces. Only thing government can do is bring back subsidies, which will reduce transport fares and thus reduce food prices. But this option is fraught with problems too.
see the government make policies and decisions. They know what to do.

it's as if you people are living in Arizona and not facing what is going on in the country. Last week I bought a sachet of maggi #120, today I went to buy same sachet, I was told it is now #170. Just a week, an increase in #50 of just a good. And everything is just like that. Common man staple foods are now out of their reach. Garri, yam, beans, pepper, tomato, yam flour, meat, fish, now out of the reach.
Can't you people just seat down and think of the future of this country than playing politics with critical issue of hunger or is it until it turns to unavoidable protest or death before you guys can think.
Let the poor breathe was Mr. President song but today the poor are the most vulnerable set of people in Nigeria.

The only way government can fix price is to pay subsidy.....
And this is why pple have been saying ....the two major exchange rate and fuel that drives this economy...government shouldn't have removed subsidy completely on both..

They removed it..claimed they saved money only to give it to state government who end up embezzling...masses are suffering from two angles..

We are a nation heavily dependent of importation..... Exchange rate cannot be fvcked with.....it will lead to problem...

.and that's why this inflation will never stop until government returns their control in the dollar market and fix exchange rate...
Good but not only through subsidy.

The best is to Subsidize production cost.

It's frivolous. The government can't fix the prices of anything it doesn't produce.
It not!

Yes the government can't outrightly but they know what is the cause and what needed to be done. Again they can determine if u are making too much gain or not. If they are sincere and honest they can even if it technical.
PoliticsRe: Court Orders FG To Fix Price Of Goods, Petroleum Within 7 Days by khattab02:

You didn't explain how the order can be enforced.

The fact that something is produced locally can't negate economic realities
when the price of a major part of production, energy was tippled.

BTW, who are those you think are making artificial gains?
by using the law that is provided to court. Am not sure how that works am not a law student.

The manufacturers and most at times the Middle men. I know this because I have deal with some of them.

We have a price control board. It's just that you can't control the prices of something you don't produce. If you attempt it, you will tank the economy.
What we are saying is a ceiling on the artificial gains and somewhat extortion.

This administration promised to have agricultural marketing boarding? Where is it?

What many state government should do is to buy many of these products from farmer and have them stocked. That way farmers have their money at hand and the government can have where the release the products to the market or have a board where u go and buy.

They just have to find a way around it.

many African countries have price regulatory agencies/board but Nigeria that calls itself "the giant of Africa" has none. People increase prices indiscriminately, making abnormal profits for thier selfish gain and at the detriment of the masses. Govt. needs to wake up this time to address this issue.
Correct!

We have price regulatory body oo.. but na camouflage. Nothing dem dey do other than siddon collect money for office.

Unenforceable order.
What does the judge mean by "fix price of goods"?
what I understand. First, the federal government in the last 6 months have made policies and decisions that has affected the economy negatively and things have gone worse. But the producers and middle men tend to use this federal decisions and policies to make more artificial gains at the expense of the poor masses.

I think the FG just fold it hands and allow anything to be. Hence prices increased anyhow as if we don't have a regulatory body again.

Take a look at Rice that is produced locally?

What of oil? Both vegetable and cooking oil?

Beans? Garri nko?? Garri wey used to be common and cheapest.

This Government and administration has failed us!

I am an advocate of time, but in the passage of time things got worse in your hands, u are on the path of failure already.

It shows lack of concern from the central government with failed promises and failed policies.
