PoliticsRe: Prominent Nigerians Plotting ‘civilian Coup’ Against Buhari – Groups by Kiakia(m): 7:10pm On May 06, 2017
owukpa:
The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Good Governance has claimed that some prominent Nigerians are currently plotting what it termed ‘civilian coup’ against President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group, at a two day Consultative General Assembly held in Abuja during the week stated that since the president has not told anybody he is unfit to lead, no one should force him out of power.

Representatives of 40 CSOs, which included the New Initiative for Credible Leadership, the Advocates of Social Justice for All, Lawyers of Mercy, Media Without Border, Beyond Leadership Legacy Foundation, described the calls for Buhari’s resignation as distraction to the current government.

The groups in a statement jointly signed by its Secretary, Joyce Adamu and Rev Steven Onwu Chairman, Communique Drafting Committee passed a vote of confidence on the president to continue to oversee the nation’s political affairs.

The statement said, “In the past days, several notable persons have breached decorum to make demands that have no anchor in the Nigerian Constitution (as amended) like asking the president to take a medical leave.

“These calls are equivalent of civilian coup attempts since they are aimed at forcing President Buhari out of office over ill health that can befall anyone. The people making the demands based such on hearsay and rumors published as exclusive stories by less than credible online sites,” the statement added.

The statement further noted that no organ of state is currently suffering directly or indirectly as a result of Buhari’s health situation, adding that able appointees the president were running the various aspects they are entrusted with successfully.

“In the same space of time that wicked rumors are flying around, wife of the President Mrs. Aisha Buhari declared that the severity of her husband’s health was being blown out of proportion.

“Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele briefed the President on the apex bank’s currency management and relayed how the Forex stability excited President Buhari. Such brief could only have been presented to a lucid and healthy person.

“There is also no iota of constitutional crisis so far created by the ill health of the president as being propounded by some critics,” the statement further stated.

While calling on Nigerians to continue to pray for Buhari for quick recovery, the groups warned some of them against spreading false story on the health of the president.

“We urge Nigerians to pray so that God will grant the President quick recovery and the country healing from the wounds inflicted by saboteurs.

“We also want to caution those spreading falsehood to desist from such especially in view of the negative consequences their action can have on citizens’ morale nationwide.

“Reactions based on this falsehood, like pressuring the president to proceed on medical leave, must be discontinued. Nigerians should only respond base on facts as conjectures would only complicate things for the country,” the group warned.

PoliticsRe: Amaechi To Dredge River Niger With N100m, Instead Of N47b Jonathan Approved by Kiakia(m): 6:37pm On May 06, 2017
Fogman:
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on Thursday, finally humbled former President, Goodluck Jonathan’s ego, by accusing the former President of wasting N34 billion on the dredging of River Niger.

Amaechi said this at a Conference on Fast-Tracking Port Reforms, hosted by The Nation newspaper, in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Transportation, in Lagos.

While speaking, Amaechi said: “When the River Niger was first approved for dredging by the previous administration, it was approved for N47 billion, and N34 billion was paid to the contractor. Dancers were called in and there was a party.

“We are not dredging the River Niger with billions of naira; we are dredging the River Niger with just N100 million. When we flagged it off recently, did you see us dancing? Was there a party? I just went to see the Governor, and told him that the project will start today, and will be finished in one month.

“The Governor said he will accompany me, and I said ‘ok’. So, I asked the Governor to flag it off, since it’s located in his State.”

Commenting on concerns raised in certain quarters on how the government plans to execute the dredging exercise with N100 million as against the N47 billion earmarked for same by Jonathan’s government, the former Rivers State governor said the government would not employ the services of private dredgers.

“People are wondering how on earth we are going to dredge the River Niger for N100m, when the previous government awarded same contract for N47 billion?”, he said.

“But we are going to dredge the River Niger, using dredgers owned by the National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA. NIWA has dredgers, but the previous government preferred to give contractors money to dredge the river with private dredgers while NIWA’s dredgers were lying idle somewhere in Port Harcourt.

“The NIWA MD told me the agency has dredgers, but it’s been hired out to somebody in Port Harcourt. So, we had dredgers, but the previous administration hired them out to some persons in Port Harcourt while paying a contractor billions of naira to use privately owned dredgers at a very high cost.

“I told the NIWA MD that I will look for money to fuel their dredgers, and work has started. That is why we are dredging the River Niger with just N100 million,” Mr. Amaechi said

This is scandalous! So, what happens to the N34 billion already paid to the contractor upfront? Will it go just like that?

They also have running water, smooth, tarred roads all over their cities, subsidised social housing, 90%+ literacy and human development indices that are far superior to at least half of Nigeria. Their infrastructure stock was built by Europeans before majority rule happened in 1980 without a destructive civil war. They are also having a bumper harvest, meeting all their internal food needs with leftover to export - Nigeria is still importing garri and wheat and corn.

By all objective measures, Zimbabwe is a more developed country than Nigeria. Visit it and you will be shocked at how backward Nigeria actually is, relative to even the rest of Africa. It's only in the minds of delusional Nigerians who don't travel that Nigeria is some kind of great, important country. Nigeria is actually a backward, inconsequential West African British vassal state led by illiterates, where its most expensive high class neighbourhoods have open gutters, individual septic tanks, boreholes and diesel generators.

You need to get out more.

Omooba77:
Atletico Madrid made it to 2016 /2017 UCL Semi Final and will play arch rival Real Madrid.

Reigning European champions Real Madrid will play neighbours Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semifinals.
Eleven-time European champions Real, who eliminated Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals, could become the first club in the Champions League era to win the competition in successive seasons.
The Madrid clubs have met in the Champions League final in two of the last three years, with Real coming out on top on both occasions.
Atletico had also reached the final in 1974, when they lost to Bayern, but have yet to win the competition.
Atletico director Clemente Villaverde said the club were not daunted by facing their rivals again, while Real director of institutional relations Emilio Butragueno said past meetings will have no bearing on the clash.

Real Madrid will host Atletico at the Bernabeu on May 2 before travelling to the Calderon eight days later on May 10.

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane says past victories over Atletico Madrid will count for nothing when they meet in the Champions League semi-final.
Real beat their neighbours on penalties in last season's final - and had a 4-1 extra-time win in the 2014 showpiece.
"It's a completely different tie and they will be doing their utmost to go through as well," said Zidane.
Real forward Gareth Bale is absent with a calf injury and Atletico full-back Juanfran is out with a thigh problem.
Madrid on high risk alert for Champions League derby
'We can't rely on the past'
Zidane, who succeeded Rafael Benitez in January 2016, is aiming for a La Liga and Champions League double in his first full season in charge at the Bernabeu.
The last time Real, level on points with league leaders Barcelona with one game in hand, were crowned champions of Spain and Europe in the same season was 1957-58.
Yet Zidane said his side must pass two huge tests if they are to book their place in the Champions League final in Cardiff on 3 June.
"Atletico always gives us a hard game," said the former France midfielder.
"The strength they have is that they never give up, no matter what happens. They fight, battle, they know their strengths and use them as best they can.
"In the past four or five years they have been a very good side that have improved every year.
"What happened in the past is in the past, we can't rely on that now. The extra motivation comes from it being a Champions League semi-final."
'Atletico hit by injuries'
Atletico's preparations for a 14th match in three seasons against Real have been badly hit by injuries.
They are without three defenders - Uruguay centre-back Jose Gimenez (groin), former Real right-back Juanfran (thigh) and Croatia full-back Sime Vrsaljko (hip).
Belgium winger Yannick Carrasco is doubtful with a collarbone injury.
Atletico boss Diego Simeone said he was confident his side would produce a performance to make him proud whatever team he put out.
"I never tire of praising these players, they are incredible," he added.
Atletico, who are third in the table, have taken just one point off Real in two league games this season.
End of the road for Real Madrid! Atletico for Champions league trophy, but Juventus will be waiting.
