Celebrities / Re: 50 Best Dressed Men In Nigeria… Mode Men Magazine Cover by Kilkenny: 1:49pm On Sep 03, 2010
lol, this is really silly!

Chiwetel Ejiofor doesn't even live in Nigeria!, in fact has never lived in Nigeria since he left age 3 with his parents.

So if they were going to include folks of Nigerian parentage then they should have titled it "50 best dressed Nigerian men"

But the dude considers himself British though,

Sports / With The Recent Incident In Angola,do You Think The Tourney Should Continue? by Kilkenny: 3:01pm On Jan 09, 2010
Given the unfortunate event involving the Togolese national team-with their bus driver, assistant coach & team spokesperson killed,2 players injured,do you think it was right for CAF to allow the games to continue??

Personally,i think herein lies our problem as Africa & Africans, if this had happened somewhere else, most likely the tournament would have been cancelled, at the very least out of respect to the NATIONAL team that lost some of its own and the now suddenly bereaved families of those who died.

But what do nairalanders think

Family / Re: I Maltreated My Wife: Now She Wants To Leave Me by Kilkenny: 12:05pm On Dec 07, 2008
You sound very hurt and i really empathize with you, its quite obvious you were blinded by the hurt & pain & were not out to intentionally maltreat her, and now you see the light.

I know a lot of people have already said so much regarding your post, some of them i thought were a bit hard & maybe callous, but at the end of the day i think the decision is ultimately yours to make.

However i would like to encourage you a bit, perhaps that might help.Just to say don't give up on what you want or on the future you see for yourself. As they say,"the darkest hour is nearest the dawn",and things will definitely get better for you.Hold on to your hope, your faith & believe that it WILL be well,& it shall.

I am a medical doctor & a practising christian too and it honestly amazes me how sometimes God rubbishes medical science just to prove his sovereignity.I know of 3 separate couples who were told by medical science that there was no way on earth they could ever have kids (in 1 case the man had Zero sperm count,in another the woman had the problem & in the 3rd case,it was said to be idiopathic ie medical term for unexplained). They were all christian couples and 2 of them had been married 9 & 11 years respectively.Last year, all 3 were delivered of healthy baby boys!!

I really doff my hat to them because i can only imagine how tough it must have been for them all those years, but they just still held on to their faith. We advised them to get IVF (and God i believe is not against that,as He is the source of all wisdom & gave man this wisdom) & indeed i know of one christian couple who conceived through IVF.However, they just determined within themselves that they were going to wait & believe God for a miracle, no matter how long it took.

I still advise my patients to try IVF, and you don't necessarily have to wait that long in the case of the couples above.Obviously this is something you & your wife have to decide & agree together if you choose to go down this route as it can be quite an expensive & emotional process & indeed you'll both need to be counselled properly before you embark on it.

Its available in Nigeria, i have heard of The Bridge Clinic,a reputable Fertility Clinic which is based somewhere in Lagos, you might want to look into this & find out more.

Anyway,i really do wish you all the best and my thoughts & prayers are with you at this difficult time, Take care.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Mccain Picks Sarah Palin As Running Mate by Kilkenny: 9:33am On Aug 30, 2008
These crafty Republicans!

Its so obvious what they are up to, what this tells me (& surely this must be apparent to all!) is that Mccain or McCrook shall i say,is just interested in getting to that White House by hook or by crook!

Its glaringly apparent that Sarah Palin is bringing absolutely NOTHING to the table,in terms of her being the Vice-presidential pick;what they've done is gone for the "sentimental" vote, you know, white, woman, working mom, mother of five, one of which is disabled with Down's syndrome,so she's got a "story" that can sell to the media.

Now with that "story",they know that the Dems would be wary of "attacking" her because if they try to,those die-hard Hilary fans & feminists in America would say " they're attacking her because she's a woman, thats what they did to Hilary, she was disrespected in the campaign blah blah blah, " and naturally come to her defence & threaten to vote Republican!

Their strategy is to rub this (her pick that is), in the noses of the Dems & try to swing disaffected Hilary Clinton supporters to vote McCrook come November 4th.

The danger for them though is when it comes to the vice-presedential debates, the thoroughly experienced, seasoned, fearless Joe Biden is just going to literally rip her apart & glaringly expose her inadequacies, inexperience & poor grasp of international & foreign policy issues

But still crafty, very crafty on their part i must say!

What i think the Dems must do now is call in a favour-the Clintons, & particularly Hilary Rodham Clinton to live up to her words & promises stand shoulder to shoulder, vigorously & prominently campaign with and for Barack, particularly in the battleground states, that should blunt the Republican's weapon!
Romance / Re: When Your Partner Snores: by Kilkenny: 12:01am On Aug 08, 2008
I do understand the plight of those whose partners/spouses snore, but think about how guilty the snorer must feel too, particularly when their spouse accuses them unsympathetically that it's their fault he/she didn't have a restful sleep overnight!

Let me just clarify things here, people who snore do not do it deliberately,it is not something they can control & as such it is NOT a "bad habit",so get that clear first & foremost. In fact,in very severe cases called O.S.A.S.(obstructive sleep apnea syndrome) which is when they have periods where they stop breathing for a few seconds to a minute during sleep, they actually need to be referred to a sleep disorders unit for a special mask to help with their breathing.

However,in mild-moderate cases there are things the snorer can do to improve things:
- Weight loss
- Cutting down on cigarette smoking
- Cutting down on alcohol,& in fact no alcohol in the evenings before bedtime
- sleeping on the side rather than on the back/sleep reclined at an angle;both of these open up the airways
- sometimes some nasal decongestant sprays can help (after seeing an ENT doctor to see if there is a problem with the nose & sinuses)

What happens at night when one sleeps, is that the muscles in the back of your throat & nasal passageways become sort of lax & tend to "collapse" inwards, the tongue also falls backwards, now in big people who have excess fat in their tissues, this normal process is compounded by the fatty tissue also contributing it's own "blocking" effect to the free flow of air when you breathe in & out, hence the recommended advice to lose weight.

Usually we would advice people to try the above measures for at least 6 months & see if things improve before then considering referral to an ENT doctor(they can perform some surgical procedures to widen the airways) or a sleep specialist for assessemnt for O.S.A.S.

I hope this helps! As a brother to someone who used to snore heavily while growing up,all i can implore you to do is spare a thought for the snorers amongst us.When my brother & i used to share the same room as teenagers,i got ear plugs cos i realised i couldn't kick him out of the room & there was nowhere else to go to sleep, well, except for that uncomfortable couch in the sitting room!!
TV/Movies / Re: Lost by Kilkenny: 4:22pm On Oct 20, 2007
Hmmmm, i guess you have a point there Odada,i certainly didnt consider that angle.

As for Juliet, maybe its just you & I against the rest! LOL! I think one of the two (ie Kate/Juliet) would have to turn out to be the "villain".I suspect theyd find it hard to cast both of them as "good" women especially if they r both competing for Jack's attention- Y'know, something (or someone's) gotta give!

Dinozzo,Feb 2008 if one thinks about it is actually just round the corner-we dont have to wait long anymore. As for people ditching the show,i think that will be those on the fringes, those of us who are "hard core" fans definitely wouldnt!.So here's to an eagerly anticipated LOST Season 4,meanwhile let the discussion on past seasons & episodes continue,

TV/Movies / Re: Heroes: TV Series by Kilkenny: 1:06am On Oct 20, 2007
I agree with you Hexgear.I think HEROES is actually a more "believable" series than say LOST for example, you know,no unexplained questions left hanging in the air with each episode, the sequence of events here appear logical.

Hiro is my true HERO & i love Peter Petrelli & Hayden Pannetiere (Claire) as well.

But what is it some of u guys are talking about here? something about Nathan in Ireland,Claire& someone called West, etc.Season 2's started in the States then i deduce.Oh,dear, they r still just halfway through Season 1 here in the UK!!! I actually watched all of Season 1 online cos i just couldnt wait each week for the episodes to be shown on TV.

Ok,so guys please be careful what you divulge here-o! some of us still need the suspense you know, lol!
TV/Movies / Re: Lost by Kilkenny: 12:44am On Oct 20, 2007
I thoroughly enjoyed Season 3, i guess all those unanswered questions are just to whet our appetite & keep us interested. So Odada,i fear Season 4 would not bring us answers, only more unanswered questions!!

Some of my friends actually stopped watching LOST cos they thought it was annoying, you know the fact that they had all these "unexplained" stuff going on, the black smoke, polar bears, etc and felt they were playing on our intelligence.I actually find it all very intriguing, well, only if it all gets explained & makes sense at some point anyway Lol!

I doubt if they will show Season 4 here in the UK at the same time it starts in the States(Feb 2008?),we are usually one season behind here.I actually watched a couple of episodes of Season 2 while i was in the States weeks before they were shown on TV here & i watched ALL of Season 3 online, check out www.myseries.nl or www.alluc.org

Juliet with all her pretty innocence,im afraid i still dont trust & Jack in the future a drug junkie? i found that really hard to imagine.Plus i have a sense Desmond's rich girlfriend Penelope (you know, she supposedly sent a search team out for him & Charlie found out just before she died that she didnt?) has a HUGE & pivotal role in this whole LOST journey, but then,i could be wrong, Season 4 awaits us!!!!!
TV/Movies / Re: Ex "behind The Clouds" Star Ene Oloja Stars In Hollywood Movie "the Brave One" by Kilkenny: 12:24am On Oct 20, 2007
Brilliant!
I have not seen the movie i must admit thats because the film critics here in the UK did not give it "rave reviews".
It does sound like a thought-provoking movie though, the way you've written about it here.
I guess one should not always be led by what the film critics opine.
I wish Ene Oloja & the other nigerian actors & actresses out there all the very best.
Sports / Re: Samuel Peters wins In Boxing Match, might meet Klitschko by Kilkenny: 1:26pm On Oct 09, 2007
Didn't watch the match but read reports of it on different sites on the internet this morning.
Im happy Samuel Peters won,but from the various accounts that i read & what users here have alluded to,his falling in rounds 2 &3? was quite worrying.
I must say though that the whole thing is a bit suspicious to me, you know the fact that when he fell & in some other instances,Mccline could have "finished him off" to win the match, but he curiously said his "hands were tied" & also apparently at some instances during the fight,it was as if he couldn't move, even his wife was screaming ringside for him to take the match& the title!!
One commentator/reporter said it was all "very curious".I just hope this is not a case of Mccline deliberately throwing the match or to those of you more superstitiously minded, naija jazz at work!, just joking LOL!
Religion / Re: Gospel Music Versus Secular Music by Kilkenny: 5:37pm On Oct 04, 2007
mycc, honestly as quite a number of people have already said, there really is NO BASIS for comparison. These are two distinct & entirely disparate genres of music!

I think Lafile and a couple of other folks have done justice to this topic, in my opinion.

I for one LOVE gospel music & even though i do like "clean" secular songs & listen to them on radio,TV,etc songs like Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like this", Simon Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled water" & yes, even R. Kelly's "Greatest"; i wouldn't go out of my way to buy them.On the other hand,i would buy gospel CDS for myself & also as gifts for friends.Recently i  bought CDs of Micah Stampley,Joann Rosario & Smokie Norful to give to friends & they were so impressed!

And as per styles,i guess as long as it edifies the soul & glorifies God,then thats fine.

You know what they say, "Different strokes for different folks".Some people like the cool worship style of Donnie Mcclurkin or Hillsongs, others would flow more with the upbeat music of Kirk Franklin,Kurt Carr & the like while others still love the rock sound of Delirious,Third Day,Casting Crowns, etc.
Music/Radio / Downloads For Ipod/mp3 by Kilkenny: 10:11am On Sep 29, 2007
Hi guys,

I just wonder if anyone knows of sites from which i can download gospel/christian music onto my ipod? itunes does not seem to have a good christian section.Im particularly interested in the music of contemporary artistes & worshippers like Donnie Mcclurkin,Byron Cage,Stephen Hurd,Donald Lawrence & the Tri-city choir,Tye Tribbet,Kurt Carr,John P. Kee, Israel Houghton,Hillsongs with Darlene Zhesch,Tremaine Hawkins, etc

I wouldn't mind also good comtemporary Nigerian artistes & gospel groups as well.

Many thanks for your anticipated help.
Health / Re: Where Can One Obtain Lipitor? by Kilkenny: 2:59am On Sep 28, 2007
Well, you really shouldn't be taking medication not prescribed by your doctor.

Plus with the statins (lipitor, simvastatin, etc) in addition to monitoring your cholesterol levels regularly, you also need to have blood tests-particularly tests for liver function intially every 6months & then less often thereafter.

So it really is not just a question of taking the lipitor or whatever, you also need to make sure you can have your blood tests done as & when required.

Cheers.
Health / Re: Pls Help by Kilkenny: 2:53am On Sep 28, 2007
Don't let these people scare you before you even know what the actual problem might be.

All you need to do is go to your doctor's for a simple urine test.

He probaly would ask you some questions to find out the possible reasons as to why you are having the symptom

With that & the urine test (& possibly some blood tests),you should have your answer.

All the best.

Health / Re: Pain During Menstrual Period by Kilkenny: 2:46am On Sep 28, 2007
Menstrual pain also known as "Dysmenorrhoea" is quite common in women & in some, can be quite severe.

There are 2 types- Primary, which is common in younger females & in most cases has no sinister or suspicious cause: It can usually be managed with painkillers, contraceptive pills etc

and the second is Secondary which is due to an underlying medical cause such as endometriosis, fibroids, etc.

So,best thing to do is to see your doctor or gynaecologist first if you are worried, particularly if you find that the pain-killers( eg paracetamol, etc) aren't controlling the pain.

Isn't Omega-Plus a vitamin pill? im lost as to how that helps with dysmenorrhoea!!!!
Health / Re: Dislocation Of A Right Arm by Kilkenny: 2:36am On Sep 28, 2007
You've probably damaged the soft tissue of that joint-hence the recuurent dislocation.

What you really need to do is to see a REPUTABLE Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at one of the tertiary health centres in the country.

It is quite possible you might need an arthroscopic repair of the damaged liagment/cartilage or you might have to live with it- a lot of people do actually (& some folks because its happened to them so many times, can actually on their own pop the joint back into position without having to go to the casualty!)

I say the latter because you said the initial accident happened about 3 years ago,so im not so sure if anything drastic can be done now.

Best see a Consultant Orthopaedic Consulatant for assessment,
Health / Re: oh my gosh by Kilkenny: 2:22am On Sep 28, 2007
Interesting.

Is she just noticing his snoring? cos im assuming here they must have been married for quite a while, since you said her "husband".

Or is he snoring louder now?

If he is on the big side, losing weight actually might help.Sometimes also,a comfortable position adopted during sleep may help alleviate things. It also just might be that he is more stressed or more tired at the end of the day (if the case is that he is snoring more) & he just needs to take things a bit easy & rest more.

Well, whatever the case may be,as someone suggested if she really finds it worrying, then she may suggest they see an ENT doctor for further assessment & advice.
Health / Re: How Do I Remove My Cataract Without Operation by Kilkenny: 2:13am On Sep 28, 2007
No.

You shouldn't be putting chemicals in your eyes for crying out loud!!

As for vitamin supplements & minerals, they are of use only to help with good vision-completely & utterly useless once you've had cataract which is a "clouding of your eye lens".

That can only be corrected through surgery.

You don't need to be afraid-in good hands it is a simple, straightforward & harmless operation which is usually done under local anaesthesia! in other words you dont have to be put to sleep( if thats what you're worried about) & you can actually be talking to your doctor & the nurses while it is being done!!

I must ask here though that have you been tested & it was confirmed that you have cataracts? if so,im surprised your doctor did not make it clear to you that if you wanted to have it removed,it'll have to be by surgery.Unless of course if you didnt express your fears to him or her.

So take heart my dear-it really is nothing to be afraid of.Most eye surgeons have done hundreds before being qualified.I would advise you go to a good centre with reputable opthalmologists to have the procedure done if you wish to proceed.

All the best.
Health / Re: Ulcer Treatment by Kilkenny: 2:02am On Sep 28, 2007
This is of concern to me!

People asking for medications for some random person-without having even seen their doctor!!

I mean how far are you sure that you actually have ulcer? It is not somethingyou diagnose yourself simply because you have "hunger pangs" whenever you dont eat on time or  becauseyou have the occasional, random tummy upsets.

I know people use the word loosely, but ulcer guys, is a MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS.

As for the medications & the triple therapy this person is referring to-its for Helicobacter Pylori associated gastritis ( in layman's language, a kind of "ulcer",if you will, but i use the term "ulcer" here quite guardedly, cos technically it is not an ulcer as such)

and anyway, that still has to be diagnosed & confirmed through tests as well, plus the drugs should only be prescribed by your doctor.

Truth be told, the ideal treatment for true ulcers should be proton pump inhibitors & anti H2 receptor blockers- which again SHOULD ONLY BE PRESCRIBED BY A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL AFTER TESTS HAVE CONFIRMED TEH EXISTENCE OF AN ULCER.

So before you guys start self-medicating & abusing drugs (which of course have side-effects),if you're truly concerned or worried that you have an ulcer, then your very first port of call should be a doctor.
