gifts92:Maybe you think people are being a bit harsh in their response. The reality is what most people have stated here is the truth. Have a read through the tenancy agreement you signed and you’ll see the clause about subletting. It is because of health and safety that landlords do not permit overcrowding. You will be intentionally making your family homeless should you sublet as the landlord could evict you. There are other ways to save money but going down this route of subletting is not advisable. |
giselle237:I think the OP meant BRP letter. My daughter arrived few days ago and was asked at POE in Heathrow for the BRP letter. |
bigtt76:Sadly, there are lots of fake visa alerts on this forum. POF agents parading as either applicants or MA with families looking for gullible people to defraud. Often time, there’s always a story attached to the supposed visa success. SMH |
Ajiboyehify:Hello, I hope you haven’t paid for this flight. The itinerary shows you have to sort out the transfer from Billund Airport in Denmark to Gdańsk Airport in Poland by yourself. Did you factor in time to clear immigration, retrieve your luggage and get to the airport for your next flight? I understand you’re trying to cut cost but in this instance, it’s not worth the stress. |
Gbee19:Hello, I don’t know if anyone has replied to your query. Please be rest assured that choosing a wrong level will not affect your decision. I sent an email to UKVI regarding this query and the reply was they will make use of the information provided on the CAS. The most important thing is that you select or type the correct award. Don’t say you’ll be awarded a PHD when it’s actually an MSc or BSc. |
My daughter’s passport was returned yesterday via DHL and visa was granted. Biometrics 8th July, Abuja TLS Collection Mail: 27th July Shame about the exorbitant flight prices now. |
Richie4l:Hi, If you’re a school leaver, the chances are you’ll have to go through a foundation pathway for an undergraduate course. However, if you’re currently an undergraduate in a Nigerian university, you will be able to proceed to either 1st or 2nd year in a UK university. The important fact is if your GPA, English (WAEC, NECO or IELTS) meet the university requirement you’ll be offered admission. Also bear in mind that you need a strong SOP for your application to be successful. There are about 144 providers of your intended course in the UK. UCAS is a good website to start your search. |
I’m not going for post graduate. The level on my cas is RQF 6. It’s a top up programme.[/ RQF6 is correct if you’re going for a top up or undergraduate program. Do you think you may have chosen NO under the question about maintenance? “Its something along the line about a bank account in your name”. If you chose NO, this could be the reason why there’s no indication of financial evidence at the end of your application. I’ve had a look at my daughter’s application as she’s an undergraduate too and under financial institution, the name of her bank appears. I think you should follow Duchess’ advise. |
duchess90:@ Duchess90, very kind of you to take time and answer questions here. I’ll just add that the OP should remember that the SOP needs to be original. Personally, I wouldn’t advise posting the SOP on a public forum as someone else could copy it verbatim. If this happens, the OP’s work will be flagged as plagiarism and the university might decline their application. |
sainted:My daughter applied yesterday and was able to get Friday 8th July for her biometrics in Abuja. I recall Thursday and Friday were still available. Were you unable to get a date for next week? Just wondering why you are considering walk-in. |
olaoye15:The reality is, not everyone embarking on the student route will get the opportunity to stay and live in the UK permanently. This might be harsh but it’s the truth. I came to the UK just before the old post-study was scrapped. During my 2 week orientation, we were told to study hard and get good results as that would help us secure a job. A lot of international students in my university took this advise seriously and despite some graduating with distinction and merit, only a handful were lucky. Those who couldn’t secure a job had no choice but to pack up and return. It was really heartbreaking to see some of the brightest people I’ve ever met forced to leave. Sadly, life as an illegal immigrant is horrible and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Some other routes to settlement you could consider should you choose: Spousal Visa - You can apply via marriage (real love) if your spouse meets the financial threshold. It was easier before Brexit as being married to an EU National automatically gave you the right to reside. Sadly that ship sailed a long time ago. You can now only rely on marriage to a British citizen or someone with permanent residency ( ILR, EU settled or Pre-settled status). Global Talent Visa - If you’re a tech bookworm and believe you can make a change in the digital world then this is for you. For more information, check gov.uk Continuous study- You can explore the PHD option if you’ve got a lot of cash reserve, knack for research and 3 more years for academia. Personally, I didn’t opt for PHD because I knew I wouldn’t be able to cope with more studying. The MSc was more than sufficient . My cousin studied for almost 10 years just so he can qualify for long residency. Was it worth it, he alone knows. For survival, I know some Nigerians are resilient and I’m hoping you are too. - Come with the funds you showed Home office - Choose an affordable city for your studies - Seek academic help early if you’re struggling. - Research organisations that can sponsor you early and put in as many applications as possible before your graduation - Make use of charity shops if money is tight. You’ll be amazed at the quality you’ll find in some shops. - Register for your National Insurance number as soon as you arrive. - Get a UK bank account asap - Register with Electoral Roll ( Nigerian INEC) and GP practice - Start your job application asap - Make good friends - Brush up on your interview skills ( YouTube is a great place to start). With regards to work, It’s important you have your living expenses when you arrive as it could take months to get a job. This way you can treat any income from the 20hr work as a reserve. I would encourage you to get a part time job that will guarantee the minimum 20 hrs/ week with holiday pay. This will ensure you have a steady income every month. I’m not a fan of agency work ( aka zero hour contract) although I can see the appeal for students. Should you choose this option, be aware that you could go some days/ weeks without work if the agency does not have a shift for you. To your other question, I don’t regret coming here to study because this country has given me an opportunity that I would have otherwise not had if I had remained in Nigeria. I was lucky to get a job I enjoy and have progressed in my organisation. It is important that anyone embarking on this journey lower their expectations because the reality is often different from the picture family and friends paint. You’ll be amazed to know that some people have come here financially unprepared and then turn to the church or council for help when things go wrong. All I can tell you is don’t let the fear of the unknown put you off. Remember no risk, no reward. You alone can decide if the student route is the right part for you. Good luck |
Pacypatty:A close relative was in a similar situation last year. She started her course in September 21 and got a sponsorship job 3 months later. Her sponsor knew she was on a student visa, still new in the country but didn’t see it as a problem. I recall she queried about the 3 month timeline in the UKVI guideline but her sponsor clarified that it wouldn’t affect her application. She got her COS, applied and was granted a 5 year Tier 2 visa in February. She is now working full time, still studying albeit on a different visa category. Judging from her outcome, I’ll say it’s possible to switch while you’re a student as long as you meet the requirements. Be aware that no one here can tell you what your outcome will be as every case differ. I’ll advise that you speak to your sponsor about your concerns. This is what my relative did and her employer was more than happy to assist her throughout the process. |
I thought it will be helpful to post this information here. Anyone who will be attending NTU in September should be extremely careful when dealing with people on Spareroom. There are lots of rogue landlords and scammers on there. There’s a landlord on there who will try to pressure you to pay the deposit plus a month’s rent in advance 24 hours after sending the contract giving you no time to review the document. While searching for a room for my daughter, I exchanged several emails with her and thought she was genuine. I became suspicious when she started hounding me everyday for the deposit and pressurising me by saying “someone else has shown interest, you have only today to pay the deposit and secure the room”. This were red flags for me —- She claimed to be Unipol accredited but when I searched the website and also called the office to inquire she wasn’t registered. International students are often the target because some landlords believe the students know no better. Always ask for the contract and read it carefully before signing, their landlord registration number or Unipol code. Unfortunately it appears student accommodation in Nottingham is somewhat expensive and it will be a shame if anyone fall for such tricks. Remember, If it’s too good to be true, it’s probably isn’t always true |
ZeeMai:I believe that when choosing a university, you need to ensure it aligns with your career plans and financial capability. I graduated from RGU and have continued to live and work here. From my personal experience, I enjoyed my course because it helped me achieve my goal. Now when people say there are no jobs in Aberdeen, bear in mind they are often talking about the oil and gas sector. The decline in oil has had an impact on the city but this is not to say that there are no jobs for students. As a student, due to work restrictions you’ll probably end up working as a shop attendant, a care assistant, in a restaurant, hotel, doorman/ security, factory etc. The upside of the situation in Aberdeen is that rent is now cheaper than previous years. As for the poster who stated that students travel to Glasgow for work, this is often true if the student is registered with an agency or couldn’t find work in Aberdeen for whatever reason. Stirling as a city is close to Edinburgh and Glasgow so obviously there are more opportunities when it comes to finding a job. You do have to factor in the cost of transportation if you plan on working away from Stirling. If finding a job is the most important factor in choosing a university then have a look on Indeed.co.uk for job opportunities in these cities. I can’t advise you one way or another as both cities have their merits and drawbacks. Good luck |
SirWellington:In that case, why are you so worried about your wife’s application? I also had my traditional wedding in absentia and this was never an issue. Your marriage certificate from the registry, pictures and joint bank account should be sufficient for the application. If either of you have been married before, then also include the divorce papers ( decree absolute). The CW will write you should they require more information. The key to a successful application is honesty. Good luck |
SirWellington:Hi, Tier 4 dependent visa applications are pretty straight forward if it’s a normal application. However, seeing as you had this wedding in absentia, the onus is on you to prove that your marriage is subsisting. This means that you need more than a marriage certificate to prove your relationship is genuine. The niggling question is why was your marriage done in absentia? You don’t have to answer if it’s personal but remember if you provide more information, someone who’s been through this route could give you a better advice. |
Nawa o Why would i want to submit personal chats to someone to prove marriage when court documents and wedding pictures are there [/ @ Hustla, sometimes it’s best to say nothing if you can’t offer any advice. The OP asked a question that didn’t deserve a snarky comment. |
