United Airlines announced that new service between Washington, D.C. and Lagos, Nigeria will begin November 29 (subject to government approval). The airline will operate three weekly flights connecting the U.S. capital to Nigeria's largest city, which is also the top Western African destination for U.S-based travelers.

"This new flight to Lagos has been highly anticipated by our customers and offers the first ever nonstop service between Washington, D.C. and Nigeria, as well as convenient, one-stop connections to over 80 destinations throughout the Americas including Houston and Chicago," said Patrick Quayle, United's vice president of international network and alliances. "On behalf of all of United we'd like to offer our sincere thanks to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and U.S. Department of Transportation for supporting our plans to provide this service."

"We are honored to work with our partners at United Airlines to welcome their second nonstop connection from Dulles International to the African continent," said Carl Schultz, acting vice president of airline business development at the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. "Lagos joins nearly 50 other nonstop international destinations currently served by the National Capital Region's gateway to the world."

United will operate this route with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner featuring 28 United Polaris® business class lie-flat seats, 21 United Premium Plus® premium economy seats, 36 Economy Plus seats and 158 standard economy seats. This flight is the only service between the U.S. and Nigeria to offer premium economy product. Flights will depart Washington, D.C. on Monday, Thursday and Saturday and return from Lagos on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.

This new flight builds on United's expansion into Africa and solidifies United's leadership position to Africa from the D.C. metro area, with more flights to the continent than any other airline. Just this year, United launched new service between New York/Newark and Johannesburg, South Africa and between Washington, D.C. and Accra, Ghana. And this December and January, United will increase its service to Accra from three weekly flights to daily* as customers travel home for the winter holidays. United is also returning its popular service between New York/Newark and Cape Town, South Africa on December 1. United's new flights comply with each country's COVID-19 protocols and customers should check destination requirements before traveling.

United is the only U.S. airline to offer its own one-stop-shop where customers can conveniently get "travel-ready" by finding a location to schedule a COVID-19 test as well as upload and store their test results and vaccination records directly through the airline's website and mobile app with the Travel-Ready Center. The airline's easy-to-use travel tool available on United's mobile app enables customers to reduce stress and save valuable time at the airport right from the palm of their hand. United also announced a collaboration with Abbott and became the first U.S. carrier to set up an easy way for international travelers to bring a CDC-approved test with them, self-administer while abroad, and return home.

Two Nigerian groups on Monday confronted each other in New York, the United States, over the state of things in the country.

The groups converged on Nigerian House on 42nd Street, 2nd Avenue, airing opposing views about the conditions in Nigeria and its unity.

The protests came as President Muhammadu Buhari began his scheduled activities related to the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), at a venue that is a stone’s throw from the Nigerian Mission.

The first group of Nigerians in Diaspora said they were there to show their support for their fatherland as world leaders assembled for the annual event.

Led by Emmanuel Duara, the group, by the name “One Nigeria Group,” expressed their support for President Muhammadu Buhari and the indissolubility of the country.

Speaking to reporters amid chants of “one Nigeria,” he said: “We are the biggest country in Africa and the biggest black country in the whole world. Whatever is going on among tribes in Nigeria, let us sit down and settle it.”

The group members waved the country’s flag, wore T-shirts and displayed banners announcing progress made, their commitment to one Nigeria and a yearning for peace and progress.


They were however opposed by anti-Buhari protesters who called for a referendum to determine the fate of the country.

Also speaking to reporters, one of the leaders, Foluso Aruleba, highlighted the various problems confronting Nigeria as a nation, asserting that there can be no peace without justice.

She regretted that the Buhari’s administration had continued to borrow money among declining value of the naira.

Aruleba, who said she was speaking for all the indigenous people of Nigeria, said: “During Jonathan’s administration, Buhari invited Fulanis from West Africa. Now, the thing has backfired and they are killing more people in the North.”

She demanded for referendum, saying that United Nations should go back to the drawing board, saying that the 17 sustainable development goals are global goals and Nigeria cannot be isolated.

She alleged that plans were on to invade Yorubaland, which she stated would not be acceptable.

I have worked in a private engineering company for 6 years. I got in through their Graduate Trainee Program in 2015. On completion of my 1 year training, I was deployed to their Audit department despite being an Engineering graduate. I was shocked, dismayed and depressed as I didn't know how my career will pan out working in Audit department as an Engineering graduate.

Fortunately, I started my Masters in Engineering, few months after my deployment to Audit. This gave me some glimpse of hope and direction in my career as an engineer. I have completed my Masters in Engineering program, registered with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and the Nigerian Institute of Power Engineers (MNIPE). Despite my professional qualifications in Engineering, I do not have hands-on experience in engineering despite being in an engineering environment.

I have spent 5 years in Audit department, of which largely I have not been fulfilled. I want to practise my profession and I also believe I will add more value to the company if redeployed to a Technical department.

Do you guys think approaching the HR to request for redeployment on the grounds that I believe I can add more value to the company is a good idea? If it is, How can I go about it? I will appreciate your suggestions and advice.

This thread is something I have been thinking of since yesterday that I've been reading on the horrible things done to women in this country, but seeing that Genevieve thread and the responses on Nairaland, from the same men that hide and support these rapists amongst them, I am now moved to start the thread.

It is bad enough that most of you are totally ignorant of the ingredients that constitute rape, but the fact that the few educated ones stay silent, thereby encouraging these fiends, is even more disturbing.

WOMEN LIVE IN FEAR OF MEN. Women cannot go out at night, because of fear of being raped. Women cannot walk down a street filled with men, without the fear of being molested, women cannot go into a car filled with men, for fear of being kidnapped or being molested. A woman goes into a room filled with men, and the entire time, she is on edge, looking for other women. Women cannot go to clubs, unless they are in groups, and they still have to look out for eachother. You can not go and have fun, without thinking of worst case scenario as a woman.

Men, CAN YOU RELATE?

CAN YOU RELATE TO LIVING IN PARANOIA FOR MOST OF YOUR LIFE? CAN YOU?

DO YOU FEEL FEAR WHEN YOU WALK INTO A ROOM FULL OF WOMEN? DO YOU SEE A BUS OR CAR FILLED WITH WOMEN AND DECIDE TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER ONE? DO YOU CROSS THE ROAD WHEN YOU SEE A GROUP OF WOMEN AHEAD OF YOU?


There is NO AGE of women that do not feel this fear. You are not too young or too old for a man to rape you. From one day old to 101 years old, rape can meet you anywhere.

At HOME, you are raped
At SCHOOL, rape
At your job, rape
Even In CHURCH, RAPE.

Where is our sanctuary? When does it stop? Does being a woman mean a life of constant fear? Did we choose this? Who trained these men?

How do we know who is and who isn't a rapist?

Rape happens to all genders and either gender can be the aggressor, but if you did a survey today and asked 10 Men and 10 Women, if they had been molested or raped, more women will have faced these things than men.


If you walk down ANY street and ask MEN, "WHO IS MORE LIKELY TO BE A VICTIM OF RAPE BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN?" YOU, the same men, will admit that WOMEN are more likely to be victims.
