Is it by marriage or by selection? or nah by invitation ni?

I want to come and enjoy these good things you are writing about jare.

Thank you very much for the valuable information.
It still amazes me a bit when showing pictures of certain things. Was formed at the base of sacred things not photographed or made public. But everything is changing.

I've always wondered about these creative images myself, but I don't think one should sweat it. People are dynamic, Your Ori is different from mine and your Orisa can speak to you in a way that is different from the other person, so people can have different interpretations for what they feel and see in the course of their spiritual or philosophical journey. I like your concluding remarks also "things change"

It's always nice to see people express their Ifa faith beyond colour and cultural boundaries. As long as they pay homage to the source.

Ptolomeus:
What is IFA Foundation official opinion on the formation of some women with the title of Iyáonifá and access to oracle in some countries like Argentina and Cuba?
An affectionate greeting.

This is an interesting theological question.

My understanding is that Iyanifas are recognized as babalawos, I've read Wande Abimbola ( Awise Awo Agbaye) express this fact, and it is practised as such in Yorubaland.

Yoruba religious culture rarely discriminate against women, except when it comes to specific Oro's with special traditions regarding the participation of our women folk.

The idea of two-ness is a central theme in Yoruba Philosophical worldview, So I will be surprised if Ifa is against the "Ordination" of female Babalawos, now, due to the syncretic nature of Yoruba Religion it will be very easy for many to adopt and fuse of their own unique cultural and social beliefs with their interpretation of Ifa.

Having said all that, I must stress that Yoruba Social Culture is another thing entirely, the contemporary social culture has elements of what can be termed "discrimination" depending on who you are speaking with. Although many conservative Yorubas will argue that these so called "discriminations" are just socially enforced expressions of different or dual purposes.

owos say keeti wi

ekiti is kooti wi or kooti fo

standard yoruba is ki lo ti wi, ki lo so, or ki lon so.

i'm assuming the quoted keeti means what.

I suspect "Keeti" in Ilaje/Ikale usage means "How is it" or "How are you doing?" OR "Bawo ni" in Regular Yoruba

I may be wrong though.

I will never answer such a foolish question. I am not here to say my state is this your state is that. My case is ILAJE should be let alone, not the ILAJE in my state should be let alone. The Ilajes are native to 3 States in Nigeria namely:

1. Ondo
2. Ogun
3. Delta

I can be from any of the above. I really dont care. Leave Ilaje matter alone.

Ilaje44: Give me a break! This is not Alhaji Harem.

@Tpiah, the people from Ondo state are linguistically not very far from each other. However, the Ikale dialect is the closest to Ilaje among the pack. I can understand ede Ogho, Ifan, Onido, Idanre quite well. Its only Akure and Akoko that can give me a very serious challenge to comprehend. Akoko is really tough.

Beispiele:

Ogho ji gede
Ilaje ji dede
Ekiti ji kete

This is so true, plus Irele. And from the Owo side, if you go down a little bit towards owanland especially the Uzebba, Sabongida axis, actually up to Esanland (Ishan). The word similarities and usage are so familiar it's difficult not to see the connection.

We did not get too far on this one. Then we opened women universities. Many of us women, particularly of Northern origin, were not allowed to enroll in co-educational schools of higher learning. So we opened this school since in America, England and everywhere in Europe they have universities for women only. We did our research on it very well and read up on it, but then Southerner women opposed it saying why should we segregate the genders that this is our problem in North, we are illiterate and why should we create a university for women. But now they have created open university in which people can learn and study remotely from home. I am hoping it produces great results.

What is Maryam saying here? When did this opposition happen? Any other evidence to corroborate her story?

There are Women only schools in the South and in many parts of the North too, they've been there before Nigeria got independence, even before Maryam was born, many are still flourishing till today. I don't buy this tale.

By the way, many of her tales point to the problem we had with leadership in Nigeria, we still have those problems. These people build institutions and ideas around themselves without creating the strong framework that will enable those institutions outlast them. All these "We built this, we built that" cannot last if you don't systemize them with strong policies, robust laws without personally profiting from them.

Negro_Nations, Well done my brother.

BahPulo:

You know I was going to read the article and move on since the issue being discussed here is North Nigeria which I must say I know nothing about. however this your post caught my eyes. I don't know anything about the Haussas so I won't comment on them but the fulanis I know. I am one of them and your last sentence that we are destined to be illiterate and poor is the biggest lie you have ever told my dear. If you don't know ask and you will be told but going around making outrageous comment is just ignorant. I was born in Senegal and my parents are from Guinea, these two countries have the highest concentration of fulanis. Not only are the fulanis in these 2 countries educated but also they are business savy, hard working, and well respected among their countrymen. Do we have issues? sur just like any other group in most of subsahara Africa. but are we what you say we are? no we are not.

Although you are not Nigerian, but still, it's nice to read someone on here write they are FULANI and not HAUSA-FULANI.

Nice to have you on Nairaland BTW, do post more.

5. The probe of the oil Sector has raised so much dust from certain segments of the polity such that it became clear that the intention was to frustrate it. For those who regard the oil sector as a secret society or sacred cow, I wish to state without equivocation that it is not. All public agencies in the oil sector are the creation of Acts of the National Assembly and this Honourable House has no powers to legislate for the creation of secret societies.

10. I have heard all kinds of insinuations, including the one about anti-graft agencies waiting for a ‘harmonise version’ of this report before taking any action. Let me quickly say here that this is at best an excuse that can not stand after all the same agencies accept and investigate petitions from individuals, how much more resolutions of this House, there will be no such document so they should just go ahead and do their job and where they find any person or body culpable, they should proceed in accordance with the law.

So EFCC is wait for Consitiutional Amendment and United Nation resolutions before they can investigate these gross allegations of graft and massive public theft ?? Funny people.

And we are fighting corruption ?

Make no mistake folks, the owners of Nigeria will work hard to spin this probe away. Be prepared.

Let me also remind you that we are fighting against entrenched interests whose infectious greed has decimated our people. Therefore, be mindful that they will fight back, and they do fight dirty.

Just do your job. Nothing favors my people better than when you all eat yourselves up.

I got this via El- Rufai's Facebook page

The Speaker House of Representatives: Aminu Tambuwal gives me hope.....these are his remarks this morning....

My fellow colleagues, You will recall that on Sunday January 8 we had to cut short our recess in response to a national crisis as a result of the sudden removal of fuel subsidy by the Executive Arm of Government.

2. The commitment and patriotism shown by members during that period of emergency finally led to the gradual resolution of that crisis.

3. Today, we are here to consider the product of that sacrifice. Before you is the report of the Ad-hoc Committee on the monitoring of fuel subsidy regime which was set up to verify and determine actual subsidy requirements.

4. And I must commend the Chairman of the Committee, Hon Farouk Lawan and the rest of his Committee Members, for their courage, dedication and professionalism. They were given a crucial assignment and they handled it with the integrity and patriotism it deserved.

Similarly all private sector corporate bodies operating in the sector are the creation of the Corporate Affairs Commission and that Commission also is not vested with any powers to incorporate secret societies. Let it therefore be known that in our drive to sanitize the polity, there are no sacred cows and we do not intend to discover any.

6. However, that is only one part of the job. We now have the more crucial duty of considering the report and recommendations of the committee. Usually in a matter such as this, one is accustomed to hearing differing opinions presented passionately. Or passions presented as opinions.

7. But we must never forget who we are and where we are, because Nigerians are watching us very closely and history will judge what we do here today. I therefore urge each and everyone of you to look at this report dispassionately.

8. Be fair in your comments and set aside all primordial sentiments so that we can do justice to this important document.

9. Let me reiterate the fact that we are discharging a Constitutional assignment here and it is therefore incumbent upon us to do our duty without fear or favour. Let me also remind you that we are fighting against entrenched interests whose infectious greed has decimated our people. Therefore, be mindful that they will fight back, and they do fight dirty.

11. Our only interest here is to mitigate the suffering of Nigerians by showing how the subsidy regime has been hijacked for the benefit of a few. At the end of our deliberations we hope that the executive arm will act upon the resolutions of this House and bring more transparency to bear on the system.

12. Together we can do all things constitutionally required of us but not without sacrificing our personal comforts, personal aspiration and even personal opportunities that do not benefit the public good. For as many are prepared and determined to make these personal sacrifice and to stand on the side of the ordinary Nigerians whose mandate we hold, I say let’s march on dear colleagues
13. My fellow colleagues, I wish you God’s guidance.

Thank you.
