Negro_Ntns:

I am aware of the push to integrate but;

1. twelve months from now when we look back how would we know that implementation was successful and who would be accountable for their success?

2. campaign promises and manifestos are not acceptable plans. . . .unless someone has committed to loose their job if the promises are not delivered in the set timeline. If the committment is not there, then accountability is loose and transferable which makes it highly likely that we are pouring water into baskets again.

You are right about these two points. It is difficult to demand accountability or even access it when we have not properly benchmarked our goals and expectations.

Ideally though, campaign promises should have been enough if we exist in a system where the electorate is the final judge and employer. But still, I personally will hold ACN responsible for what they have promised me and my people. I'll make sure those I have influence over do the same.

No, no, no I don't work for GEJ, and neither am I without my own complaints about his government. However, I'm more sophisticated than your average Joe who would jump unto the bandwagon of let's get them, let's kill them, and let's sack them. The last time we heard this type of song was in 2009 when Sanusi"uncovered" massive fraud in the banks. He replaced the bank CEOs with 'angels' some of whom are not only facing worse accussations of fraud than the previous managers, but also even murder allegations.
When the fox steals a chicken, it helps him to divert attention, make noise, and chase and hunt the sheep for the same crime, as a tactic for covering up his own crime.
If you have been following N/L very closely, you would know that any article posted by DEMDEM, KILODE, or BITTYEND, or any of those hired or biased acn vs oil cabal supporters would eventually prove to be baseless. This group has elevated the art of deception, personal attacks, and innuendos on the person of Ms Madueke and Okonjo into an art form. When they're not describing her expensive underwear, they'll be focused on her handbag, or her step son, or her house in Vienna that doesn't exist. Don't take my word for it, look at their profile. They have an ulterior motive to destroy these women with lies and falsehood, so that somehow the ladies would be distracted from cleaning up the oil sector that has rotten for the past 40 years.

So I'm now a hired ACN and oil-cabal supporter on NL ? My stock must be rising grin

The other day someone accused me of giving excuses for NOI, now I do personal attacks on NOI.

I didn't even think I've ever engaged this Naijaking character on NL before. Can you provide proof of my bias ?
Politics / Re: Subsidy regime fraught with corruption and inefficiency – Report by Kilode1: 6:32pm On Apr 20, 2012
DaLover: Subsidy probe...power probe...pension fund probe...police fund probe...securities and exchange commission probe...my probe...your probe........it is only me that feels we are moving in endless circles

Is our problem really corruption or systemic?

As long as the systems tries to create conditions where the profit of being corrupts outweighs the risk, we will just have to be a nation of probe-rs...

Oya....where and what is the next probe?? customs funds, army funds?

A misguided set of people indeed!!

I guess the next question is:

Why can't this administration just get radical and do the needful?

GEJ can Spend his political capital to overhaul this system and if it cost him the next re-election ( I doubt it will) then he leaves with his head high, knowing he helped Nigerians to move closer towards a better system, saving coming generations a lot of headache.

GEJ is in a good position to do these reforms, but I'm afraid, it appears he lacks the will for it.

where are those promises made in line with this increment? was okonjo iweala not the minister of finance under oabasanjo when nigeria lost all those money to corruption?
alison madueke was the same minister of works that cried on lagos - ore - benin road, did that change anything under her? abati was the same idiot that wrote critically in his book against removal of fuel subsidy only in 2009. labrown mako led a protest in 1986 against the removal of fuel subsidy only to tell us this year that he was sponsored. how can such hypocrites be leaders over us?.

True.
Politics / Re: Sack Okonjo, Madueke. Civil Societies To GEJ by Kilode1: 5:38pm On Apr 20, 2012
What these "civil society" groups are demanding for is accountability. I can't understand why any sane Nigerian should be opposed to that.

As for the Senate, a senate where the ruling party has a comfortable majority, the same party that appointed these people? They only foooool themselves if they cannot compel the executive to implement every sensible recommendation in these reports and punish the public officials and private businesses responsible for these frauds.

OAM4J and Jarus, ask Seun to put one of these Subsidy Senate report news on the home page, there are several of them floating around. Try to choose one and place it on the homepage. This is an important report. Don't allow it to get drowned out. People died fighting against corruption and subsidy removal.

This new Senate report may end up vindicating Dele Olojede's 234next and the great investigative work they did to expose Allison Madueke

234next took their great website off the internet shortly after the storm generated over this. (they said they were broke)

Thanks to Nairaland, we still have it here in cyberspace:

Central - Olusola Adeyeye (ACN)

This is a decent politician from the very little I knew about him during the 1999-2003? Senate. He was vocal and something of a contrarian in his debates then. I think he lost his seat to the "OBJ pact" after that, if I recall.

Curiously, I've not heard a lot about him since April, I hope he's not getting tired. If not, then Osun is lucky to have him there.

ROFL grin grin

You have to show me where you get this your dramatic vocabs from.

@my fear:
BTW, we don't have to wait for a dictator to put proper checks and balances or reorganize these bodies, that is the whole point bro.

Bro, If we have a decent man in office today and he neglects these reforms, he won't be there forever, right? No guaratees the next leader won't be a brutal lunatic, we've had a few of them already. Best to reform them to protect us all.
Politics / Re: ‘I Don’t Deserve To Be Called A Religious Bigot’ Says Aregbesola. by Kilode1: 7:09pm On Apr 19, 2012
The SSS powers are in order. They are effectively above the law as are the FBI, M16 etc; they are the maximal enforcers of our sovereignty and security;

Those organizations are not above the law in their countries, and they don't have official roles in State Government houses.(as you are aware, SSS agents hang around State government house Gates, I've seen enough, they are not even covert about it )

Also, M16, like the CIA, is an intelligence ops body for protecting against external enemies not domestics, they provide foreign intelligence. I don't think they throw unsubstantiated allegations at State Governors and call them for questioning and explanation. That sounds like the Nazi SS Gestapo to me.

Nigeria's SSS on the other hand grin let's just say there is a reason why you don't copy blindly.

It is better to get them organized with more specific roles ( foreign intelligence or presidential Security)

These things we play with are extremely dangerous in the hands of brutal leaders, it's like the FBI when Hoover first ran it. If not for powerful laws and sensible foresight a Hoover would have become a Hitler in no time. Can't play with para-Military orgs by giving them unnessarily over-broad powers like that. It's dangerous for all of us. Don't know when a lunatic will get into Abuja again.

Maybe we have an ideological difference on this issue sha. We will have to Discuss this on another thread though, don't want to derail the thread more than I already did.

Politics / Re: Subsidy regime fraught with corruption and inefficiency – Report by Kilode1: 3:18pm On Apr 19, 2012
Mrs. Alison-Madueke is also to have her powers whittled as the House committee recommended the appointment of two oil ministers--one in charge of upstream, the other handling downstream.

The report recommended the prosecution of members of the boards and managements of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and the Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency, who are found wanting, for making unauthorised deductions of hundreds of billions during the period.

The indictments cover past and serving management of the two agencies, and the report recommended the sack of present NNPC management led by Mr. Austen Oniwon.

Appoint 2 oil ministers ke? I thought we are going broke with expenditure cost? Kai, what did Nigerians do to deserve all these clueless idiooooots in office??

If you like, appoint 7Million ministers, nothing will change until you start punishing people for their incompetence and corruption.

Beaf:

This is funny, bro.

We run a democracy, not an anarchy.
Any state that does not want federal intelligence agencies around is surely attempting to hide nefarious activities.

Seriously, I see the SSS as a poorly conceived security intel Organization with overbroad powers. It needs better and more specific laws. As It currently stands, It's more like a Gestapo body to me.

If we want a federal police, I welcome that. But a federal secret service with powers stretching into state affairs is over-broad, unnecessary and frankly, dangerous ( we can see evidence of that danger in the ignoble history of our SSS )

Yes, this is supposed to be a democracy, a federation even. SSS should have been scrapped or at least re-organized since 1999.

To the level headed observer, Yoruba people, not ACN people voted for GEJ. Please lets stop this conflation of ACN and Yoruba people, it is ethnic blackmail and it will only cause further annoyance.

Sorry, GEJ has called CPC worse names. In reaction, CPC has replied in kind; the one thing both CPC and PDP and all other parties do not do is employ ethnic blackmail. What kind of primitive people are in ACN?

For the bolded, except for a miracle, I think it might now be too late.

A lot of those ACN supporters, like I mentioned earlier, voted for GEJ at the federal elections, while they voted ACN at the state level. And many of those who opposed his choice of political party sympathised with part of what the election symbolized.

Ok oh. On NL I know "it may be too late" but in the real world, real political operators don't use phrases like that. I bet you know that.

Anyway, like I said, best not to burn bridges and turn friends and sympathizers into foes. It is simply not necessary, frankly, it is not wise.
Politics / Re: Time For OPC, Bakassi To Clean Up Act And Join MEND by Kilode1: 4:43am On Apr 18, 2012
Beaf:

That was before ACN's politics of ethnicity.
Suddenly, every ND person has become a drunken fisherman, because Tinubu said so; before Tinubu said it, ND people were not referred to in that way.

Maybe now that SSS is crawling around Aregbe's bedroom, ACN will be too busy hiding incriminating evidence in Osun to spew more ethnic bigotry.

I will hold any non-ACN hand.

Ok. But GEJ called them rascals first now.

Anyway, it's ok, let us hold hands. There are bigger battles in front, you don't want to burn all the bridges, many of these same ACN supporters have genuine ND sympathies (for example) and they have demonstrated it time and time again even before this 4th republic.

Also, the same ACN leaders GEJ referred to as rascals did not stop their people from voting for a PDP president In 2011. I'll actually go on a limb and say elections were more peaceful in the SW than any other region in 2011 despite everything. Those bridges will be useful, best not to burn them.

BTW, no homo grin

There is a saying among our people that work generally is nothing to be ashamed of; it is stealing that brings dishonour. There is dignity in labour. The holy books enjoined all to do with one’s might whatever one’s hand finds to do.

We have found inspiration on work from the view of William Beveridge, the post-World War II British political economist in his influential book ‘Full Employment in Free Society’ where he wrote: “It is better to employ people on useless project like pyramid building or digging holes and filling them up again, than not to employ them at all…Any of these may be better than doing nothing at all.

Are you for real? The SSS is tasked with the responsibility of protecting the President, too govt officials, and their families. How the hell do you expect them to protect these people if they're not stationed at these places.

I guess the US are at war with the Secret Service permanently stationed at the White House, the British with Police Special Branch at 10 Downing Street, or maybe the Russians with the FSO at the Kremlin. Dude, get real.

I was referring to SSS in STATE government houses not FG. SSS protecting Governors or hanging around State government houses is a waste of scarce resources. states not FG.
