So if the NBC correctly establish that those areas actually fall within Imo State, Rivers State will continue to reap the proceeds?

A federal government institution will gazette that those areas are part of Imo State and you believe that Rivers State will continue to enjoy the resources on it?

Common sense should have told you that when such happens, it opens new grounds for it to be revisited.

Nobody is disputing the dynamics or who owns the area of dispute. My grouse is if you jump the NBC and get a judgement from supreme court what happens when NBC (which is the agency for boundary creation) decides to mark those territories as IMO state can't you see it has open up the case for more litigation? The point is Rivers state should have firstly take NBC to court to force them to "mark boundaries' and if they still go ahead to mark it wrongly, court will be approach to sort it out than jumping before gun to suit about " oil wells" then NBC is now coming out with this statement. I just hope after NBC do their work all the areas the 17 oil wells fall into is Rivers because any delineation that allows the wells in IMO state has open up the case for more litigation and it will end up obtaining different judgements on "the same case" on issues of technical grounds.

Well..I still think for posterity sake and uniformity of judgements, they should have solved the boundary disputes before the oil well issues. The first point call will be to take the NBC and their corrupt practices to court than jump overhead and allow supreme court decision on the oil well. It is likely going to open up more angles for more disputes.

The objective thing to do is to enforce the NBC (which is govt parastatal) to do their job and on that premise it can be decided which of the states own the oil wells, but No they went to give judgement on an undetermined boundaries. So tell me how they have solved or settled the problem. Does it mean tomorrow if part of the oil well area now calibrated in IMO state they will still be allowing Rivers state to mine the Oil...Nigeria is cursed with incompetent and self-serving officials at every level.

The law establishes the boundary. You cant go contrary to the law. That was why Nigeria had to comply with world court ruling with bakassi peninsular.

The point here is the NBC should be allowed to do thier constitutional job. Supreme Court verdict can be reviewed but that is left to IMO state to decide based on the outcome of the boundary demarcation.
