They are never in school, and when they are, they are advertising one party or the other. Always ready for turn-up. 3. The Politicians Their major aim from the day they enter school is to be involved in school politics. They are the SUG candidates, Faculty executives, etc. Anywhere and anything concerning politics, you must see them there. They are usually very popular. 4. Borrow Borrow ‘Borrow Borrow make me rich’. These are the set of people you will meet in the university that are always borrowing. They can borrow from money, to books, to cloth and even pot. In short, they can borrow for Africa. 5. Library Customer You will be sure to always find these ones in the Library. “Baba, Howfar I wan go jack abeg, I dey come”. You can never see them without their backpacks, loaded with books. 6. Have you ever asked yourself why that eatery or supermarket wrapped up? Contrary to what most people always believe that its always insufficient funds that causes make businesses fail, there are a whole lot of other reasons why a business can fail. About one-fourth of startup businesses fail in the first year and about a half of them fail in 10 years’ time. Why? Well that’s what we are going to talk about shortly. You might be an entrepreneur starting up a business and if you want your business to succeed, you need to know and avoid those things that make businesses fail. TO BE FOREWARNED IS TO BE FOREARMED they say. There are many things which entrepreneurs may most likely overlook and ignore that put them into the failure statistics. NOTE: YOU WON’T FAIL UNLESS YOU GIVE UP ENTIRELY. In other words, you might fail 9 times and get it right the 10th time. You didn’t actually fail because you never gave up. SO WHY DO MOST BUSINESSES FAIL? · POOR PLANNING When you fail to plan, you plan to fail. No successful project or venture was executed without proper planning. It is the same principle in business. You cannot run a business without a short term and long term plan. Your business plan must be accurate and feasible. When there are lapses in these plans, the business has a likely hood to fail because these plans give you targets and projections of where your business ought to be. Here is a checklist you should follow when making a business plan. Business description (about your business, goals, vision, etc.) Possible problems and solutions Market survey and analysis Financial plan (capital, equipment, balance sheets, etc.) Analyzing Competition Required Workforce Marketing and Advertisement READ ON: How to Write a Business Plan · STARTING FOR WRONG REASONS Another reason why most businesses fail is because they were set up for the wrong reasons. If the only reason for starting up that business is to make money, what happens when money isn’t flowing in? There should be a passion and love for what you set out to do. There should be determination and belief in it succeeding. When you start a business for the wrong reasons, you lose interest and desire to push it forward. · LOW QUALITY PRODUCTS OR SERVICES The major secret of every successful business or venture is that they provide the best value e.g. God Is Good Motors. You can’t under-deliver and expect to top the market. It can never work like that. If you are always trying to cheat customers or give anything less than the best, you will be only driving your business to a dead end. Most businesses have failed because of low quality delivery of products or services. To be the best, you have to put in the best. If you are not adding as much value as your competitors are, you will lose customers to them. Providing the best might cost you a lot at the beginning, but it definitely pays off as time goes on. READ ALSO: STEPS TO TAKE WHEN STARTING A BUSINESS HOW TO WRITE A BUSINESS PROPOSAL HOW CAN I PROPERLY MANAGE MY FINANCES? · INSUFFICIENT FUNDING You have to understand cash flow. Most business owners underestimate the startup capital and operating cost of running a business. This results in a forced shutdown of the business in early stages. It is one thing to know how much you will need to start a business and it is another thing to know how much you need to stay in business. You need to have adequate funding that will carry the business on till sales start coming in. · CHOOSING THE WRONG LOCATION If you are running a local business, your location is very important especially when your customers have to come to you to get your products or services. The wrong location can make customers lose interest in your business or make you have low influx of customers. You have to consider: Location of your customers Accessibility of your business location Location of Competitors · FAILURE TO FACE COMPETITION Get access to full article by clicking link below https://myinformationdesk.com/why-most-businesses-fail/ |

Do you know that proper preparedness precedes proper progress? Preparing for an important exam can be very stressful and demanding. Most times, students are most likely to falter in their preparation, due to lack of experience or proper guidance. You may be having a couple of examinations coming up like WAEC, JAMB, NECO, GCE, Post UTME or even a scholarship exam. This article focuses on common mistakes students make when preparing for exams. Knowing these mistakes will help you prepare properly and avoid them because “When you are properly informed, you cannot be deformed”. So analyse each mistake closely and see if it applies to you personally and take necessary steps to overcoming them. WHAT ARE THE COMMON MISTAKES STUDENTS MAKE WHEN PREPARING FOR EXAMS? 1. NO GOAL. Have goals Zig Zalar once said “A GOAL PROPERLY SET IS HALF WAY REACHED”. This is one of the major mistakes students make when preparing for exams and can at times lead to failure. You have to ask yourself questions like “What do I want?” Goals must be set in every area of your preparation for an exam. Know what grades you want to get in each subject or area. Set goals on how many hours you plan spending on a particular subject. Once you have a target, it becomes easier for you to shoot for it and achieve it. 2. STARTING LATE you're late! Another mistake is starting late. Starting preparation for an exam at the last minute can be very lethal. Procrastination is the major cause of this mistake. When you are always pushing your studies aside, it becomes more and more difficult to concentrate and give it your full attention (READ ON How to read and concentrate fully). Start preparing for that exam early. The earlier you start, the better your performance will likely be. If you have already made this mistake, read my article on how to cram everything few nights to an exam. It will help you to success still. 3. OVER-DEPENDENCE ON TEACHERS, LECTURE HOUSES AND TUTORS I will not deny it, lecture houses are very helpful. Having tutor and teachers to guide you when preparing for an exam is very great but over-dependence on these people will do you more harm than good. There is a part you must play when preparing for exams. Most students believe all they need to do when preparing for exams is attend classes or lecture houses and then are good to go. WRONG! There is a place for your own study and practice because there are cases where only your deep understanding of a course can help you. ALSO READ: HOW TO WRITE JAMB CBT EXAM AND SCORE ABOVE 280 How to pass your WAEC examination in one sitting How to beat your Post UTME Cut-off Mark 4. NO TIME CONSCIOUSNESS On an average, exams are not meant to favour you in terms of timing. Most students do not know this. I addressed this matter in my article on improving your exam speed and beating the time. I suggest you read it because it will help you attain speed and accuracy. Very Important! 5. OVER-STRESSING We are all aware of the fact that you have to study during your exam and this is sometimes stressful. But when this stress begins to take a toll on your health, it can be very detrimental. This alone can make you fall very sick and hinder your preparation for the exams. Pay attention to your body and always try to eat and rest well. You need a healthy body, a healthy mind and a healthy brain. When you have these 3 things, you will be unstoppable. Many times, I hear students complain about not being shortlisted for scholarships they apply for after going through all the application hustle and bustle. You may have been wondering by now whether it is your village people that are hindering you from getting the scholarship. Well, it might actually be them, or the fault might be from you, who are not doing it rightly. In my first and second year in the university, my applications for various scholarships were never accepted. This was most likely because I wasn’t doing it rightly. Not until my third year in school when I changed my tactics and became a beneficiary of the MTNFoundation Scholarship. Scholarships are very nice. Just imagine getting paid yearly by a company for being a good student. Then again, imagine being paid by not just 1 company but several companies. Do you know that you can be a beneficiary of several scholarships? Agbami, MTNF, Fsb, Shell, etc. So, because I am very interested in your academic success, I want to show you some of these things so you can know exactly where to make changes. WHY YOU DO NOT GET SHORTLISTED FOR SCHOLARSHIPS · POOR DOCUMENTATION Firstly, the major reason why you don’t get shortlisted for that scholarship you apply for is because of poor documentation. Many people usually upload incomplete documents or documents with very poor clarity but still expect to be shortlisted. Take the pains to do what needs to be done and anything worth doing is worth doing well. Always make sure that all documents you submit meet the requirements of the scholarship board. If you are asked for red background passport, give them red. Oversabi should not make you give them white. I will further break this down into other parts i) Wrong File Formats: All your documents must be original and coloured. NOTE that most scholarship boards prefer jpg file format for scanned documents. Sometimes, pdf may also be asked of you but do well to stick to what is requested. If it is not stated, do well to use jpg file format. ii) Wrong Naming of Files: You can’t expect the scholarship board to sort out your files for you. Are you paying them? Or they are paying you? Your files must be arranged and sent to them, in the order they ask for it. It is highly important you name your files. E.g. If you are sending a scan of your WAEC result, the file should be named as WAEC RESULT.jpg. Exactly this way. It should be so for all other files too. iii) False Documents: Make sure you do not use false or forged documents. It is incriminating and will get you disqualified immediately. Apply with the right documents. If you do not have ant, get it. iv) Wrong File Size: Usually, scholarship boards request for file sizes between 200kb to 500kb. Don’t send too large or too small sized photos. If your photo is too large, there are applications like CamScanner you can use to bring down the size. Applying with wrong photo size can make you lose the scholarship. · LOW CGPA Also, know the criteria before you enter the stress of applying. If your GPA isn’t up to the benchmark, applying will only be a waste of your time and money. Also read my article on HOW TO REVIVE YOUR CGPA IN YOUR THIRD OR FINAL YEAR. Most scholarship boards request a gpa not below 2.5. . APPLICATION HELPERS Visit the link below to find out about other reasons. If you successfully passed your jamb, I want to say big congratulations to you but if you are yet to take your jamb and you’re reading this article, I suggest you first take a look at my article on how to write jamb cbt exam and score above 280. Back to the main gist, you are yet another step closer to studying your dream course. But remember, it is never over till it is over. You still have one more mountain to crumble. Many students actually pass jamb only to flop in their post utme. But for what reason? Overconfidence? Well that will not be your portion. I’m here to show you how to beat your post utme cut-off mark and be assured of your admission. WHAT MUST YOU DO TO BEAT THE MARK? 1. GET NECESSARY INFORMATION The major reason for many students flop in their post utme examinations is because of lack of proper information. You have to be properly informed on how the exam is going down. There a number of questions you must find answers to before the actual exam day. Some of these questions to be answered include: What type of exam is it? (Computer based or Paper Based exam) What subjects am I writing? How much time is going to be given to me? Are calculators going to be allowed? What is my department’s cut-off mark These and many more questions you should find answers to. Conduct a background check on the school environment, the distance from your residence and proper provision for accommodation if you will be spending the night there. Nothing at all should be taken for granted because it could be detrimental to you in one way or the other. Also, try as much as possible to get these information from people who are familiar with the system and not regular jambites like you. Jambites are fellow post utme candidates. THE MOST IMPORTANT INFORMATION YOU SHOULD GET IS YOUR DEPARTMENT’S CUT –OFF MARK 2. GIVE YOURSELF A TARGET After getting to know your department’s cut-off mark, you need to get to work. Set a target and work towards achieving it. You can break a record in that university by having the highest post utme score ever recorded. Always set a target far above your department’s cut-off mark. For example, if the cut-off mark is 55, set a target to score say 70 or 75. Always set your target above the benchmark so as to make room for little allowance. Once you have successfully set this target, pick up your books and study. Study like your life depends on it. Take the pain to study and watch your star shine bright. READ ALSO: How to pass your WAEC examination in one sitting HOW TO WRITE JAMB CBT EXAM AND SCORE ABOVE 280 3. GET A HOLD OF PAST QUESTIONS The system has made it so easy now because Post UTME past questions are flying around, online and in hard copy. Never feel you can do it on your own without practicing past questions. You will only be deceiving yourself. Past questions are always being sold at the various universities at very affordable rates. Even if you cannot afford it, meet someone who has and make a photocopy. Study enough of them because they are usually repeated. I just revealed a secret to you. 4. HEED TO INSTRUCTIONS No go do oversabi! Do what you are told. The university is not secondary school, no one knows you and you know no one. You might disobey an instruction and be gravely penalized for it. If you are told not to make use of calculators, do not make use of them. If you are told to use just pencils, obey the instructions. Disobedience to instructions have made many intelligent students sit at home for another year because they failed their post utme.. Also, when your papers are given to you, read the instructions again and again no matter how confident you feel you know what’s written there. 5. https://myinformationdesk.com/beating-your-post-utme-cut-off-mark/
