nigerianium: LUCK or ILL-LUCK is nothing more than an ASSEMBLAGE or 'DISSEMBLAGE' of FAVOURABLE conditions.
Still hazy? Let me illustrate.
You crave to eat Edikaikong soup when you get home. You didn't inform anyone to prepare it but you crave it all the same.
Earlier in the day, your elder sister visits the market to buy Afang leaves but a little boy kicked a pail of water over the last stock in the whole market. She's pissed off. Afang can't be sliced when wet. Too bad. She settles for fluted pumpkin leaves (Ugu leaves) and hopes to return the next day for the Afang leaves. She gets home and prepares Edikaikong soup. Awesome and yummy.
You eventually got home and alas! Edikaikong is set for supper!
Were you destined to eat it? No. Were you lucky? Yes.
"DESTINY" implies "A PRE-DETERMINED END DEVOID OF THE INTERFERENCE OF EXTERNAL FORCES".
A destined person is a choiceless person but since man as a being can make choices then how can you term the end-results of his choices as "DESTINY"? It is fate.
Fate is the end-result of a man's choices - the consequences of his actions and/or inactions.
Cc: _KingLekan Nice one sire!
Simply put and easy to understand. |

ronald4lif: Exactly what ignited my curiousity and prompted the question. While I'm near certain that predestination is a myth, there are instances in life where certain incident occur which gives one the impression it was based on sheer luck rather than diligent and industriousness.
My certainty of predestination being a mythology and uncertainty of perceiving luck as a myth fuels conflicting thoughts that perhaps predestination could be real. If one doesn't believe in the actuality of predestination then luck too doesn't exist. It's safe for anyone who doesn't subscribe to predestination to view any occurrence of luck as coincidence then. Inner conflicts I suppose.
That sums it all up @emboldened. But then again there are certain things that one cannot prove and that doesn't of necessity make them non-existent.
Rather than call it sheer luck, some would say it happened by the law of attraction, which is always at work regardless of ones belief. |

Okay, but what often bemuses me is luck. There are instances where luck (and ill-luck) influenced ones fortune. Could a scenario where luck determined one's fortune be a permeation of destiny?. Can a person's fortune be their providence or it's just accidental?. Would be nice if you can throw light on this, mon virtuoso. How would one be able to tell the difference between luck, coincidence and chance?
What would be the criteria to tell for sure that luck determined ones fortune? Giving credence to luck which can't be proved and has not been proven scientifically, would furthermore enact the belief on predestination. |

nigerianium: Yeah, self-actualization, open-mindedness and unbridled curiosity.
Limiting one's self limits one's potentials . A lawyer should be interested in computed networking, an engineer should embrace linguistics and a medical personnel shouldn't shy away from econometrics or philosophy. One should be have basic understanding of all fields of study and only then would one be truly EDUCATED.
How true! The sad thing is that we live in a time where things aren't seemingly easy. Well mostly in Africa though. We find situations where folks struggle all their lives at Maslow's ist level.
The need for air, drink, warmth, sex, sleep, food and shelter. With the latter three evading most like one trying to grab air. It doesn't take long before they settle for mediocrity.
Life now is tougher and though we all hope to hit that point of self-actualization or even get to the point of transcendence, only few would get to that level.

nigerianium: Very much science-inclined, señor. Hey! One can have both worlds. Newton, Einstein, Da Vinci and Kepler did. Well quite true, though its hard to find someone actively participating in both worlds in our time.
Most times they start of in one and veer off into another world where they carve a niche for themselves. Esteem is relatively the peak these days, if we are to look at it critically from Maslow's hierarchy of needs.
Self-actualization was key to the names you mentioned. Little wonder they could effectively manage both worlds.
