A support group of Bola Tinubu, Nigeria’s president-elect, have arrived at the Supreme Court in Abuja ahead of Friday’s judgement on a suit seeking Mr Tinubu’s disqualification as a presidential candidate and his scheduled swearing-in as president on 29 May.

The group comprising young people gathered at the Bullet Junction near the Supreme Court.

A Niger Delta ex-militant, Asari Dokubo, was seen among the group.
Mr. Dokubo who has been a vocal supporter of the president-elect, sat on a rock while the protesters were gyrating around him.

The demonstrators carried placards declaring their support for Mr Tinubu.

“On Bola Tinubu mandate we stand,” one of the placards read.

Another read, ‘May 29 is sacrosanct. Nigerians have voted.”

The suit before the court was filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking to disqualify Bola Tinubu as the presidential candidate in the 25 February election over the alleged inappropriate nomination of his running mate, Kashim Shettima.

The party has similarly raised the issue in its petition pending at the presidential election court to challenge Mr Tinubu’s victory at the poll.

...the sugar in a plate of semo, amala, akpu, pounded yam, etc. Will amount to about a box of cube sugars. The irony here is that the glucose and other monosaccharides in these drinks are a form of carbohydrates just like the disaccharides in complex sugars like sucrose (normal sugar)
.
Although all carbohydrates are reduced to glucose and consequently glycogen which are stored in the liver in complex metabolism reactions in the body, you cannot exactly compare these simple sugars to normal sugars.
.
And ironically, the malt we so much prefer to soda drinks contain Maltose which are complex sugars. A molecule of maltose can comparatively yield two molecules of monosaccharides in these soda drinks.
.
My point is that starch and carbohydrates like corn syrups and the foods I mentioned up there are much worse than these drinks. And although their intake should be controlled...it would be a futile endeavour if you keep supplementing them with excess starchy foods.
.
Malt is not a saviour either.
A detailed explanation. Kudos for explaining the details in clear and simple terms.

PoliticsSoludo Writes Buhari, Seeks Release Of Nnamdi Kanu Before Handover by Kingosytex(op): 5:53am On May 26, 2023
Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), before exiting office on 29 May.

Mr Soludo made the appeal in a letter dated 20 April and addressed to the president which was obtained by PREMIUM TIMES on Thursday.

Background
Mr Kanu was first arrested in 2015, but was granted bail in April 2017. He fled the country after an invasion of his home in Afara-Ukwu, near Umuahia, Abia State, by the Nigerian military in September of that year.

He was re-arrested in Kenya and brought back to Nigeria in June 2021, about four years after he fled the country.

The Court of Appeal, Abuja, on 13 October, held that the IPOB leader was extra-ordinarily renditioned to Nigeria and that the action was a flagrant violation of the country’s extradition treaty and also a breach of his fundamental human rights.

The court, therefore, struck out the terrorism charges filed against Mr Kanu by the Nigerian government and ordered his release from the custody of the State Security Service (SSS).

But the government refused to release the IPOB leader insisting that he (Kanu) could be unavailable in subsequent court proceedings if released and that his release would cause insecurity in the South-east.

The government, through the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, later appealed the court ruling and subsequently obtained an order staying execution of the court judgement at the Supreme Court.

Soludo’s appeal
Mr Soludo, in the letter, said the continued detention of the IPOB leader has continued to affect residents of the South-east who are forced to observe a sit-at-home order on Mondays out of fear.

The governor expressed surprise that despite a call by the United Nations Human Rights Council for the release of Mr Kanu and various court rulings in Nigeria freeing the IPOB leader, the federal government has refused to release him.

“In the meantime, the continued detention of Mazi Kanu has created what, for want of a better description, can be seen as systemic insecurity in the South-east.

“Some supporters of Mazi Kanu have imposed the obnoxious and harmful sit-at-home order every Monday in the South-east, while all manner of criminal gangs- kidnappers, bandits, armed robbers etc.- now masquerade as ‘freedom fighters’ or those fighting for the release of Mazi Kanu,” he wrote.

Mr Soludo told the president that Mr Kanu was reported to be “gravely ill” with life-threatening conditions which he listed to include serious heart condition, hypertension and low potassium levels.

The governor stressed that the medical conditions require specialist medical care and interventions which are unavailable at the SSS facility where Mr Kanu is being detained.

“In the light of the foregoing, it is my earnest prayer that Mr President may kindly consider the immediate and unconditional release of Mazi Kanu as demanded by the United Nations Human Rights Council and the Federal High Court.

“This will be the right thing to do as a country that should extol the principle of the rule of law in compliance with the international law and conventions that Nigeria is signatory to,” Mr Soludo added.

The governor told Mr Buhari to consider granting Mr Kanu an “administrative bail on compassionate grounds and as part of national healing” if there were persisting grounds that would make his unconditional release “untenable.”
“In this circumstance, I am prepared to take him (Kanu) on bail. My government is prepared to provide him with alternative secured accommodation at Awka where he will have access to appropriate medical care, among others, and make him available when required,” he assured.

He said it was necessary for Mr Buhari to release the IPOB leader given that Nigeria has gone through a “very consequential election” and that part of the smart steps to be taken must include an agenda for national healing and addressing lingering insecurity, especially in the South-east.

Mr Soludo pointed out that the fight against insecurity in the region has not fared well because of lack of “wider constructive engagement/dialogue between the Federal government, South-east leaders and other critical stakeholders on a form of coordinated political solution.”

He said the release of Mr Kanu was not only a legal or compassionate thing to do, but also a patriotic act to advance the cause of security, peace and development of the South-east region.

“As you shepherd a transition process to handover to your successor, you might as well help to smoothen his easy take-off by resolving some of the lingering issues such as Mazi Kanu’s detention.

“I therefore respectfully call on you, as statesman, to discharge a historic show of mercy and release Nnamdi Kanu before you handover on the 29th May, 2023,” Mr Soludo said in the letter.

Breaching the 2022 Electoral Act, risking jail terms
But contrary to Mr Utomi’s claims, campaigning along ethnic, sectional and religious lines is a clear contravention of Nigeria’s electoral law and violators can be jailed if prosecuted.

According to section 92(3) of the Electoral Act 2022, “places designated for religious worship, police stations, and public offices shall not be used for political campaigns, rallies, and processions; or to promote, propagate, or attack political parties, candidates, or their programmes, or ideologies.”

Again, Section 97 of the same law forbids campaigns based on religion or tribe, stating that “any candidate, person or association that engages in campaigning or broadcasting based on religious, tribal, or sectional reason to promote or oppose a particular political party or the election of a particular candidate commits an offence under this Act and is liable on conviction — (a) to a maximum fine of N1,000,000 or imprisonment for a term of 12 months or both; and (b) in the case of a political party, to a maximum fine of N10,000,000.”

When campaigns were about to kick off in 2022, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) warned candidates seeking offices to avoid campaigns in religious spaces or colouring their electioneering with inter-faith division.

Reading out sections of the Electoral Act, Festus Okoye, INEC national commissioner in charge of publicity, said offenders risked imprisonment. Mr Okoye noted that the Act already has provisions for sanctions for violators, urging parties and candidates to adhere to the law and prioritise it.

It remains to be seen if INEC would be able to muscle the necessary political will to prosecute Atiku Abubakar, Bola Tinubu, and Peter Obi for violating the Electoral Act in their campaigns.

‘Nothing wrong with campaigning along the religious line’
Amid the controversy over Peter Obi’s telephone conversation with Mr Oyedepo, a chieftain of the Labour Party and a professor, Pat Utomi, said there was nothing wrong with campaigning along religious lines.

He said elsewhere, political parties are sometimes established to appeal to the interests of the people of a certain religion. Mr Utomi said this in a short interview with the African Independent Television (AIT).

He further argued that every politician appeals to religious sentiments, stating that no politician seeking power has not gone to religious leaders for endorsements.

The northernisation of a political campaign by Atiku Abubakar

Speaking at an interactive session of the Arewa townhall policy dialogue in Kaduna, in October 2022, a former vice-president of Nigeria and PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, said northerners needed a president like him, who hails from the north.

Mr Abubakar urged northerners to trust him with their votes because he is one of them and therefore the most qualified to be president.

"I have traversed the whole of this country,” he said.

“I know the whole of this country. I have built bridges across this country. I think what the average northerner needs is somebody who is from the north, who also understands the other parts of Nigeria and who has been able to build bridges across the rest of the country.”

He added that “this is what northerners need. He (northerner) doesn’t need a Yoruba candidate or an Igbo candidate. This is what the northerner needs.
“I stand before you as a pan-Nigerian of northern origin.”

Mr Tinubu’s June 2022 “emilokan” outburst shocked many Nigerians. Ahead of the presidential primary election of the APC, the former Lagos governor addressed delegates at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. He said it was the turn of the Yoruba— and therefore his turn — to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said: “If not for me that led the war front, Buhari wouldn’t have emerged; he contested first, second and third times and lost. He cried on television that he won’t contest again. I went to his home in Katsina, I told him you would contest and win, but you won’t joke with the matters of the Yorubas. Since he has emerged, I have not been appointed a Minister; I neither get nor request a contract. This time, it’s Yoruba’s turn and in Yorubaland, it’s my turn.”

At the event, Mr Tinubu alluded to a Robert Ogunde’s song, titled ‘Yoruba Ronu, a 1964 musical orchestra charging the people of the southwest not to politically betray one another. The historical allusion and Mr Tinubu’s outburst appealed to many Yoruba voters who then decided to rally around their tribesman rather than any other politician from another tribe.

PoliticsAtiku, Obi, Tinubu Risk Jail Terms Over Religious, Ethnic-Motivated Campaigns by Kingosytex(op): 6:49am On May 25, 2023
The candidates of Nigeria’s leading political parties in the February 25 presidential election risk jail terms if probed and eventually prosecuted over the contents and directions of their campaigns in the run-up to the fiercely-fought electoral contest.

A review of the campaigns of Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) indicates that the candidates engaged in either ethnic, sectional or religious-motivated pitch for votes ahead of the election, in what is a clear violation of Nigeria’s electoral law.

In April, Peter Obi’s secret telephone conversation with David Oyedebo, a highly influential Nigerian pastor, and founder of the Living Faith Church, was leaked. In the audio, Peter Obi was heard declaring the 25 February presidential election a religious war and Mr Oyedepo was heard replying “I believe that” repeatedly.

Before that telephone conversation on the eve of the presidential election, Peter Obi had been serially accused of campaigning along religious lines, targeting churches with thousands of followers. He denied the charges but his political steps proved the contrary.

In June 2022, for example, Mr Obi asked Nigerians to “take back” their country during a campaign visit to the ‘Men of Valour’ conference, organised by the Revival House of International Church (RHOGIC), Abuja.

At the conference themed ‘Navigating the Corridors of Power, the Church, and the Politics’, Peter Obi described Nigeria’s political space as an “asylum”, urging Nigerians not to allow the status quo to continue.

But Peter Obi is not alone in the deployment of religious, sectional or ethic sentiments for political campaigns. The two other leading presidential candidates, Bola Tinubu of APC and Atiku Abubakar of PDP, also adopted similar patterns of campaigns.

Like Peter Obi, like Bola Tinubu
Mr Tinubu’s June 2022 “emilokan” outburst shocked many Nigerians. Ahead of the presidential primary election of the APC, the former Lagos governor addressed delegates at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. I replied in the affirmative and took my leave moments later.

He called me some two weeks later and the first thing he said was 'Why should we give you this job when your people are all over Ghana scamming and defrauding people?' 'The company has gone through your credentials and they are marvelous but...'

The first statement made me feel so bad and made a surge of anger erupt within me, I had to keep my calm and explained to him that the three references on my CV could attest to my character. One of the references is a top NDC member and one time PA to the immediate past Ghanaian president; John Dramani Mahama; the other is a top preacher and prophet while the other is a business man. I also made him realize that he's committing a fallacy of hasty generalization. I made him realize that he's insulted and condemned me already for fraud despite the fact that I've never scammed anyone. I made him understand that I'm not defending my country because we're all saints neither I'm I ruling out the possibility that some Nigerians are in Ghana scamming people. I made him understand that all Ghanaians weren't saints either and that there are good and bad people in every country and all spheres of life.

You guys don't understand how critical this is, people just hearing your intonation and deducing that you are a Nigerian makes them wary about you, just mentioning that you are a Nigerian makes people to be extremely careful about you. To them, you are like a time bomb that can explode at any moment. Why won't the locals see you as a threat when countless atrocious acts are linked to Nigerians?

Just recently, a guy brought his girlfriend to Ghana and probably used her for Sakawa. The guy traveled to the northern part of Ghana (where Sakawa is prevalent), his girlfriend died some days later and all efforts to reach the guy were futile as he refused to take anyone's calls. The girl's corpse was deposited in a mortuary and her spirits has been wandering in the compound mentioning the boy's name (according to the neighbours).
Their room was ransacked and his NIN found alongside his mother's contact, calls were put through to his mother and the situation explained to her, the woman promised to assist in payment of the mortuary bills and claimed that she never knew the girl her son was dating... It's indeed a pathetic situation.

I laugh each time I come to this forum and see how you guys make a tribal war out of every topic. No one knows your tribe once you step out of the shores of Nigeria, you are known as a Nigerian ; no one knows which one is Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Ijaw, Efik etc.

What exactly should we do to prevent the image of our country from deteriorating further?

Or the one with rape cases that's on the front pages of the newspapers

Or the one caught for stealing and embarrassed at Computer village or Onitsha market or Sabon Geri?

Women too should be concerned on if they should forgive and forget about the past of the men.

What's good for Tom will also be nice for Jane .

As for me, if you tell me your past without hiding anything, if you haven't transgress, I'll think if I should consider you.

Or perhaps, if your past doesn't weigh above mine I'll forget.

Both sides should weigh their past and If it's 50/50 it's okay.

Let the prostitute among Men marry the prostitute among women

Women are the source of life... I want the best among them as wife and as daughters.
It's sheer ignorance that made you type this. Sorry for my diction I apologize for any offense it might cause you.

A woman and a man can't and will never be the same. Equating the both genders is just clownery as both are weird differently. A man is judged by his future and a woman by her past, that's why women need to be extra careful and cautious about the kinda lives they live.

All over the place, you see women being shamed for being loose, have you ever seen a man receive that kinda treatment?
A man is shamed for being broke and not his sexcapades.
A woman's body count matters a lot (car wey many mechanics touch dey get problem)... A man discharges, while a woman is being discharged into... Do you now get the point?
If you think the above isn't applicable, then why do most ladies spend money on vagina tightening creams? Why do they want to tighten their vaginas?

Just over 3 years ago, one of 9ja's famous singers was stripped naked for a case of phone theft or something like that, it absolutely did nothing to his image, he can have as many women as he wishes now. Have you ever asked yourself why women are hardly stripped naked if they're caught stealing?
A rich man can marry a broke woman and people will tag it 👉love is blind.
But once a broke man marries a rich woman, people will tag the man👉an opportunist, a gold digger, lover of money.... Have you asked yourself why the cases are different?

Physiologically, emotionally, psychologically and otherwise, a man and a woman ain't same. The 'it's vice versa' crew will not recommend their ol0sho girlfriends for their brothers, uncles, and even cousins to marry.
