Education › Re: My 3-Year-Old Son Can't Read Or Write Letters, Please Help by KlausMichaelson: 5:37pm On Oct 23, 2020 |
kenny1111: Good afternoon everyone,
please I need advice from all parents and Educators and parents on Nairanland. today I just realized my 3years old son cant even read Letters A to F talk less of A to Z but can read Figure 1 to 10, I am seriously worried.
I don't stay at home except for weekends as I am working outside my state, but due to the curfew I find my way back home yesterday so I was able to discover this problem in the early hours of today.
I know the mother is trying cos I have seen different live videos where she was teaching him and working on his assignment, most times I pity the boy so much because of the beating from his mum alone makes me sick but I can't really complain since I know is for his own good and I know how stressful it is for a mother with 2 kids to manage her time and all that....
I called his teacher immediately and she told me my son will be going to Nursery class when the present term is over due to his age, sadly she didn't say things I expect to hear from her so I told her I will visit the school once the curfew is over, I need explanation, is private school that bad these days ? my son can't even write 2 and 3
I have bought Video CD, bought many play book materials containing letters and figures displayed boldly, I bought counting and so on when he was 2 years so i expect a better result by now.
pls sir and ma, I need help on how to guide this boy to learn better, what should I do and how should I go about it.
Note: any time I am home, I always go through his books, assignments and read his school rhymes for him.
pls Help
concerned Daddy I couldn't read or write when I was 6 years old. I combined English and Igbo whenever I spoke those days cos I was brought to Lagos from the village. I could barely master A,B,C,D and Co. Dad had to get a teacher to take me after school lessons. The teacher was so patient with me. Along the line as at primary2 I was already topping the class that I was given a double promotion to Primary4. Here I am today, the best Student of my level in the University, not to mention the number of awards I got while in secondary school. Be patient with your boy and get him a very patient teacher. |

ibromodzi: From your write up, I can deduce that two things are missing in your data analytics armament. First is the theoretical knowledge of data analysis (most guys joke with this always) and the second one is the domain knowledge needed to navigate through any data you are working on. You can't make any meaningful conclusion about datasets without these two.
Now, back to the question. Honestly, a simple google search would have given you the answers to your questions, but I'll still try to break it down according to my own little understanding of data science.
Any data collected in its raw form has no meaning until it is processed according to what the company requires so as to utilize the data solely for decision making purpose (making conclusion), which in turn helps the company to grow. Now, there are two important things here, 1. The company's requirement (i.e why was the data collected in the first place?) - Let me give you a couple of real life examples here: a. The government wants to know whether a newly developed drug will be effective in the treatment of Covid-19. So they do this by conducting a round of clinical trials on patients willing to participate. Remember why the clinical trials were conducted? To test the effectiveness of the drug. b. A financial institution (bank for instance) wants to develop an advanced system for detecting fraudulent transactions among their customers. They do this by getting a large record of transactions that have taken place in the past. Again, you remember why they needed the record of past transactions? I hope you are getting the gist by now?
2. Now, let's continue with the second important thing in data analysis process which is the goal/objective of obtaining the data in the first place - to make decisions or conclusion about the data.
Going back to the examples I gave above, the government can conclude whether or not the drug is effective based on the outcome of the clinical trial, the financial institution can spot fraudulent transactions based on the model built with the data collected, a country can project their future population based on the available data and make appropriate policies to address any resulting economic/social challenges, Netflix can recommend movies for you based on your history, this makes you stay glued to them, which eventually generates more revenue for them, YouTube suggests videos for you based on your past activities, you are tempted to watch more which means more money for them.
So what's data analysis in real life all about? Three basic things; 1. Why collecting the data? 2. What conclusion (actionable insights) are we making from the analysis? 3. How does the conclusion affect the growth or otherwise of the company?
The takeaways...
When carrying out any analysis, ask yourself or the client these questions; 1. What is the objective of the analysis? 2. Do we have research questions we are trying to answer? 3. Do we have any research hypothesis (which eventually leads to conclusion) ?
The above are what your visualizations and statistical analysis tell you. The more experienced you are, the more accurate you are likely to get the steps.
I hope you find this useful and grow with it. Boss you really know much. Please profer any book, PDF or any link to download any material you have read. I will be very really be grateful |

Good day House.
I really need someone to enlighten me in the real application of Data Analysis in real life. I mean, I actually know how to provide a good Visualization for any Data, I can use the different functions in Excel to an extent. I can use the Statistical Analysis part of it especially when trying to analyze a typical student's project.
But my Question is, "is that all?" Come to think of it, if I actually get employed as a Data analyst, Do I just need to provide a Visualization for the company to see how far different factors(Demand, supply bla bla) are playing out at the end of the month?
I honestly don't get the whole thing. The only application I have come to Realize so far is based on Visualization and Statistical Analysis only. Or is the Statistical Analysis all that matters? Things like ANOVA, REGRESSION, CORELATION etc??
Please can someone tell me the real application of Data Analysis in real life. I'm very much confused. Thank you. |

TheGenius001: So today, a girl who was very dear and close to me got deflowered by another guy. She really loved me. I could see it in her eyes and expression whenever she talks to me.
Its really painful
She called me today to break the news begging me to forgive her for what she has done. This is really the most painful thing I have ever felt. She actually told me to disvirgin her myself long before now, but I couldn't cos she is a minor(16 or 17 not up to 18). Like two months ago after she begged me to disvirgin her, she has constantly being coming to my house for it, but I always decline it. I feel it's not right and proper for me to do such with a minor. I always have one excuse or the other but always end it with "don't worry we'll do it next time*
Just today she called begging me to forgive her that it was too much for her to bear(temptation). That she got deflowered by a male friend today.
Honestly in as much as I can't do such cos of her age I really regret my decision. This pain is so much. She always tell me how much she loves me to an extent that she offered me her Virginity ;(
I have never felt like this before. I really feel heartbroken because this is one of the girls who have really shown me much love. I really would have loved to be her first. But that ain't possible anymore.
I just deleted her number and blocked her on every platform and deleted all her pictures just to take her off my mind cos it's really painful to try imagine her being deflowered by another guy. I hope she doesn't come to my house anymore cos she could tell from my voice on the phone that I was heartbroken.
Modified: I won't lie only if she knew how much I loved her. I guess she did it cos she feel I never loved her back! Why would she have even called to tell me
If you're saying she doesn't love me, why then did she call me if not guilt? If she didn't care or love me, she wouldn't have called to beg cos to her it's gonna be like what's my business?
Please I beg everyone of you not to insult me. I really feel bad right now. I wouldn't want anyone to make me feel worse. Thank you I guess u didn't mention the part that u had plans of making her your Future wife. |

MAKEOUTHILL: going through your thread got me smiling.
tbh this whole Python thing isn't as easy as advertised
i initially started learning via e-books (huge mistake), I got frustrated and kept Python on the back burner while I dipped my hand into SQL.
determined not to use the e-book route for SQL, i stumbled onto Mosh's YouTube page and took his SQL course. it was really nice and with the help of a few other courses on SQL, I can boldly say I have a firm grasp on database management now.
I recently found out that he also has a Python course, so I decided to try again. That man is really something tbh, he really reignited my interest in the language.
here's an advice from newbie to newbie, really try and get what you want to apply Python for and learn everything Python has to offer that'll help in that regard. cause honestly if you try and learn everything about everything it's really overwhelming (for me at least).
As for me I intend to use Python for Data Analytics, so I'm focusing mainly on Pandas, Numpy and BeautifulSoup (I don't really fancy Matplotlib for visualisation, then again, that's just me).
Goodluck (to both of us I guess ). May the syntax forever be in your favour. Bless. Thanks a lot for your well thought out advice, I really appreciate it. My initial interest lied on Data Analysis. My intention was to master the tools to an extent where it becomes handy and usefuel for my project Analysis and also as a means to make money from other students whom I'll assist in the analysis of undergraduate project report. So far so good I believe I've achieved my target. So I'm taking a pause on that path at the moment. Tho in my spare time I still practice. Recently I have fallen in love with Web development. I must say it's cool. It's not a bad idea if I become proficient in both Data Analysis and Web development hence the need to also learn Web development along the line. Remember in my opening post for this thread I said "I'll like to be like Mosh Hamedani or even better". Mosh Hamedani is an all-rounder he is everything so far as programming is concerned (Web developer, Data analyst, Data Scientist, Software Engineer etc). If being an all-rounder gives an edge or not is a matter of discuss for another day. Once again, I appreciate your well thought out advice. Thank you. And yes may our Syntax forever be in our favour |

Please can someone clear me on this one. I have been wondering how possible is it to now make the Website I created using Django (because Django creates a Server for you to test run your Website) become a real website using another server Is that where hosting comes in?? That I'll have to check for any Hosting whatever to host my website for me I've been trying to answer that question. I believe that some of my Ogas here must have at some point asked themselves that same question |
Programming › Re: My Collections Of Python Projects by KlausMichaelson(op): 10:04pm On Aug 28, 2020 |
For the past few days My attention has been drawn to Web Development. Honestly speaking, It's really cool being a web developer.
At my spare time I still practice Data Analysis with Excel, Pandas, Matplotlib etc.
I'm using Python and Django Frame work. It's been a smooth ride so far. I use Mosh Hamedani's Video on Python for Beginners (there is a part of it he created an online shopping website and its about 1hr16mins), Cs Dojo (Creating a To-do App with Django), and one other guy I can't remember his name(about 4hrs video on Django and he used Sublime text as his IDE).
I actually followed up with Mosh Hamedani and I successfully completed the project but then I believe I haven't mastered the whole steps. So now I have picked up a new book where I write down every steps taken when creating a website. It requires patience I must say but I believe I can achieve that goal of becoming a web developer.
After learning the whole process of developing a website using Django, my next step would be to learn Flask(another frame work). I intend to achieve all these before school resumption.
One day by the Special grace of God, I'll be a very successful Developer. I'll also be a good teacher, so help me God Amen! |

ibromodzi: In numerical calculation, the days of the week are represented as weekday numbers. If Monday is the first day of the week, the days may be coded 1 to 7, for Monday through Sunday, as is practiced in ISO 8601. The day designated with 7 may also be counted as 0, by applying the arithmetic modulo 7, which calculates the remainder of a number after division by 7. Thus, the number 7 is treated as 0, 8 as 1, 9 as 2, 18 as 4 and so on. If Sunday is counted as day 1, then 7 days later (i.e. day is also a Sunday, and day 18 is the same as day 4, which is a Wednesday since this falls three days after Sunday. The basic approach of nearly all of the methods to calculate the day of the week begins by starting from an 'anchor date': a known pair (such as January 1, 1800 as a Wednesday), determining the number of days between the known day and the day that you are trying to determine, and using arithmetic modulo 7 to find a new numerical day of the week. ----- WIKIPEDIA A very tricky one for me. Tricky but simple on. the long run. I really appreciate this Sir. It got me wondering if there are some Python basics I still haven't come across . Below is the code and I hope it's correct. starting_day = int(input('Sunday through Saturday is 0 through 6, so what Day number are you leaving? ')) length_of_day = int(input('How many days will you be away? ')) Total_days = starting_day + length_of_day Returning_day = Total_days % 7 print(f'You will return on Day {Returning_day} ') |
