The CBN Governor who wants to be President - "World Bank Blames Naira Fall On CBN As Currency Suffers...."

The World Bank, in its assessment, said the travails besetting the naira are caused by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). It blamed the way the CBN handles foreign exchange (FX) for the current FX crisis in which the naira exchange rate fluctuates widely daily. Officially, it sold for N411 to the dollar on Thursday, but N580 in the black market.

It said the CBN’s FX policy reduces supply in the market thus affecting investor confidence and leading to a ditch of the official market for the black market. “The way the exchange rate was managed limited access to FX and thus adversely affected investor confidence and investment appetite,” the bank said.

Nice write up but being a VP or a Deputy can be sometimes frustrating. If you have held a position as a Vice before you will understand my opinion. Osinbajo is a great man he can't outsmart his master. He acted well as an acting President and I believe he will do better as a President.

Mind you, with or without Tinubu, Osinbajo will win. Look at the pulse of the Nation, everyone wants Osinbajo even APC as a party can confirm that.

2023: Osinbajo defeats Tinubu in internal party poll, emerges strongest contender for Presidency

The result of a confidential survey conducted by leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, could shape the race to the party’s presidential ticket following the emergence of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as the favorite and most likely candidate to both clinch the ticket and secure electoral victory, sources have confirmed.

According to well-placed sources in the party, the survey pitched the Prof. Osinbajo against the former Lagos Governor, Bola Tinubu, and the former reportedly defeated the latter as the party’s most preferred choice, following strong sentiments within the party structure in the country’s six geo-political zones that the legal professor has the strongest appeal of the two and is likely to aid the party’s quest to retain power.

The sources claim that the survey is presently raising a row within the party as some leaders are trying to conceal the result from the public to avoid further complications that could fuel feelings of estrangement and bitterness in some parts.

Also damaging to the Tinubu’s camp is another result which reportedly showed that when squared with Atiku Abubakar in a hypothetical staging of the 2023 contest, the Adamawa political titan emerged victorious.

Following this, a pro-Osinbajo support group, the Democratic Reformers, has repeated its charge to the APC to adopt a clinical approach in the choice of a candidate and unanimously endorse Prof. Yemi Osinbajo who multiple polls have shown to be the party’s strongest candidate.

In a statement signed by its coordinator, Mr. Idris Zekeri Jr., the group with strong influence in the Niger Delta said that its support for the Vice President was reached following a careful examination of all the possible candidates and an analysis of national public sentiments.

They said their dispassionate evaluation, which is now given further credence by the confidential survey, showed that Prof. Yemi Osinbajo offers the best path to victory in 2023.

“If the APC intends to emerge victorious in 2023, then the choice of a candidate must be done dispassionately and with an objective focus on clearly-defined criteria including capacity, marketability, and public acceptance,” the statement read.

“Clearly, on these points, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is undoubtedly the party’s safest option. His competence has been proven and is not a subject of contest anywhere in the country. In fact, the overwhelmingly positive reactions to mere reports of his possible interest in the race show that he commands organic love and support that transcends ethnic and party lines.”

“These strong attributes are crucial to victory. This is why we have settled on the Vice President as our preferred candidate and also why we are strongly recommending him to the party and all Nigerians. We cannot afford to miss an opportunity to clinch a comprehensive victory at the polls over undue sentiments.”

The statement also added that the group will formally announce its endorsement of the Vice President in a press conference slated for later.

If the APC is thinking of projecting Tinubu as their flag bearer then they may be making a big mistake. Looking at the way Nigerians have labelled Tinubu, he should just relax and support Osinbajo. Osinbajo is a gentleman and he is capable, trust me.
PoliticsVP Osinbajo Is Simply Loyal, By John Mayaki by klimkid(op): 2:24pm On Oct 09, 2021
If the media permutations and movements across the party aisle are anything to go by, it is definitely open season for politics in Nigeria, never mind that the main event is still a couple of years away. It is a season of obvious patterns and recurring themes, including the execution of coordinated attacks on selected persons by some highly-rewarded political tricksters and mischief-makers.

The victims of the coordinated attacks, through no deliberate action, earned the ire of the political merchants by distinguishing themselves in such a way that they are considered a “threat” or “stumbling block” to an ambition. It makes it so that the nature of the onslaught, which often manifests in the media, is designed to ‘take out a problem’ through various means and tactics.

The goal is to pre-emptively de-market a perceived rival candidate and cut down such a person’s popularity, even if they have not declared any ambition or remotely expressed interest. Or to forcibly extract a withdrawal statement from the victim, in effect ruling himself out of a race he never joined so that the attackers may sleep better.

Regardless of how it is executed, it makes no doubt a difficult experience for the victims on the receiving end particularly because the content of the attacks are typically invented lies, baseless allegations, and crude smear materials developed and distributed from a control room.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is one of such innocent victims in this game of thrones. His only fault is the superlative performance he has posted in his role, and the consequential result of earning the trust and confidence of his boss, party structure, and a broad range of Nigerians across different demography and ethnicity.

His rising popularity, having brought an unprecedented prestige and renewed respect to the office of the Vice Presidency, caused the outbreak of a different kind of pandemic in the camps of the permutation makers who willed him to be their opponent in a contest that exists only in their collective imagination.

As the Vice President received more accolades for his data-backed contributions to the success of the administration, the infection rate doubled and the fever worsened. Although cheering to well-meaning Nigerians, these people did not like the data produced by Woodford Consulting, a respected private outfit, which showed that Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, more than any other Vice President in the country’s history, achieved “ground-breaking, significant contributions in the areas of reducing farmer-herder conflicts, restoring peace in the then volatile Niger-Delta region, promoting Small and Medium Enterprises, establishing the biggest social investment programmes in the continent, and commitment to upholding human rights alongside repressing gross violations in Nigeria.”

The report chronicled verifiable successes in the assigned duties of the Vice President as Chairman of the National Economic Council and other similar responsibilities so delegated to him by the President. Indeed, with his leadership, Nigeria posted a vastly improved record in the ease of doing business ranking, which must be said is a culmination of improvements in several sectors ranging from the removal of red tapes in business development to access to government support, achieved through grueling reorientation and revamp of different agencies.

His introduction of the Economic Sustainability Plan, under which Nigerians benefited from MSME Survival Fund, Youth Fund, Mass Housing Programmes, Farmers Fund, Teachers’ Welfare Scheme, and other notable achievements also formed a core part of the report and explains his widespread admiration by millions of Nigerians, especially those overlooked for so long by the government.

Quietly going about his job, with no mind nor time for the kind of meetings his attackers spend their productive time and energy on, he has actively pursued and achieved incremental progress in gridlocked areas and demonstrated a complete devotion to the success of the administration and the elevation of his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari.

Troubled by this and his rising profile, the attackers, rendered restless by their nefarious plot, made him the subject of media attacks intended to set fire on his propellants, namely his frictionless relationship of trust and mutual respect with the President and his standing within the political structure that set the stage for his national emergence.

In the corners of their room, these ones have designed and thrust upon him an agenda he has not declared. They use this invented lie as the foundation of fallacious gossips of fictional conflicts, notably between the Vice President and his present and former principals, President Muhammadu Buhari and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the former Governor of Lagos in whose cabinet Prof. Osinbajo previously served and executed lasting reforms in the judicial division.

When they are not demanding his whereabouts, as if he is ever hidden, they bleat about a purported grand betrayal plan, pretending to be fighting the battles of those who neither asked them nor aware of their nefarious acts. But hard as they may try, their efforts have been rewarded with a resounding failure. Because this Vice President is loyal. And honest, capable, conscientious, and with a sound moral compass.

When the political merchants make accusations, they only project the inner workings of their damaged minds.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo continues to enjoy the trust of the man he dutifully serves, a fact evidenced by his recent trip to London to represent him at a United Nations High-Level event on Energy transition in Africa.

His relationship with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, an important National figure and party leader, could also not be better.

Prof. Osinbajo maintains alliances required for the progress of the country. Because his only agenda is the growth of Nigeria and finding rewarding opportunities for the abundance of talents displayed daily by the youths of the country.

Nigerians know this and recent events only reinforce the knowledge and their admiration of the man. Those who plot to mislead them into thinking otherwise with efforts targeted at soiling their VP’s unblemished image and to wreck his relationship with his allies, will once again be confronted by overwhelming evidence of their failure.

CrimeGame Of Scams; An Analysis Of Ponzi Platforms Like Nowapp, Zappos & Oyee by klimkid(op): 2:47pm On Jun 17, 2021
There are a series of trending, get-rich-quick initiatives that have plagued the Nigerian digital space in recent times. Top on the list is fluid, out-of-the-blues, bogus scheme that is making the rounds called NowApp.
With an ambitiously tagged brand name, the NowApp scheme kicked off in early February 2021, fronted by a suspiciously named personality known simply as Andrew Amos. The operation style of the scheme requires each registered user to do ‘20 tasks’ on the platform and get paid for each.
The aforementioned tasks looked suspiciously like Ecommerce shopping lists and registered users were expected to ‘grab’ these shopping lists to ‘earn money. The catch was that the more people you have under you as downlines, the more money your ‘grabs’ produced.
There was also an option to recharge your account with as little as N5,000 and as much as N200,000 for a chance to ‘boost’ your ‘grabs.’
A closer look at the NowApp revealed that it’s a cleverly structured Ponzi scheme with a misdirection factor. The misdirection is the 20 daily grabs that assure each user a steady stream of commission, giving the false impression that there weren’t the regular Ponzi elements of downlines and referrals.
But like every get-rich-quick scheme, the NowApp without warning started to experience technical failure (the withdraw button failed first) then as expected it stopped working altogether.
Before that incident, reports from the various Whatsapp groups of the scheme showed that the NowApp platform had peaked at over 5,000 subscribers.
People lost millions of naira when the platform went down and had nobody to turn to. The character simply known as Andrew Amos had disappeared into the sunset, millions of naira in the bank.
The NowApp is not the only suspicious digital Ponzi scheme making the rounds, there is another one called Zappos and a new entrant in the market called Oyee, suspected to be a rework of the NowApp, making a second appearance.
The moral of the story is to be wary of these money-draining schemes because like many people have noted, they might be doing a thousand things to your banking information on their site or they might simply be waiting for the right time to pull the plug.

BusinessThe March 8th Initiative Msme Grant Announces Shortlist And Screening Timeline. by klimkid(op): 11:51am On May 11, 2021
As a developing nation, entrepreneurship remains a vital catalyst needed for economic growth and overall development. Creating jobs in a thin job market and fostering innovation despite constraints encountered daily, the indomitable spirit of Nigeria’s burgeoning MSME sector continues to inspire us all.

With this in mind, the March 8th Initiative was launched in 2020 in honor of Nigeria’s Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, in a bid to support and further fuel the entrepreneurship industry in the country. Created by well-meaning Nigerians who share in the Vice President’s passion for MSMEs in commemoration of his birthday, the grant offers one-off business grants to young Nigerians seeking opportunities to start or expand on their innovative business ideas.

For its second edition, the initiative was reorganized into 4 categories this year to provide more opportunities for young Nigerian entrepreneurs between 18 and 35 years. The call for application was made on March 8th, 2021 with entrants being called on through public advertisements to submit applications for grants ranging from N100, 000 to N1,000,000, and covering varying stages of small business growth. To qualify, applicants who own and run Nigerian businesses were mandated to submit a one-page proposal that would in explicit detail, explain how they intend to use the prize money to expand their current businesses.

Adjusting to mercurial times, this year’s March 8th Initiative also recognized health workers nationwide who, in the face of a global pandemic, demonstrated exemplary courage, compassion, diligence, hard work, and professionalism in carrying out their duties. For this, Nigerians were required to nominate health workers who have shown these qualities for a reward of N1 Million under a Health Grant Reward Category which seeks to acknowledge their invaluable service.

An ophthalmological intervention is also slated to hold later this year under the auspices of the March 8th initiative with further details to be announced soon.

Over 35,000 applications were received as of 11:59 pm on Sunday, the 14th of March, 2021, which had previously been announced as the submission deadline. All applications were compiled according to their pre-arranged categories.

The shortlisting process has begun with the following screening stages:

A comprehensive entry pre-screening process (March 2021),

A final shortlist (April 2021),

Verification of shortlisted finalists (May 2021).

The date of the final announcement of the winners will be announced soon.

To ensure a high level of transparency and integrity, the shortlist process is being carried out by independent evaluators consisting of highly reputable Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, who will evaluate each proposal on substance, awarding marks on a range of criteria including but not limited to clarity, cogency, innovation, and sustainability.

This year, the March 8th Initiative will make available grants to 448 individuals and businesses in Nigeria. “Friends of Prof” will continue to make it a priority to help small businesses grow and expand in smart and efficient ways. The March 8th Initiative is just one unique way of equipping small business owners with the right resources to best drive their business forward.

For more information on future grants and opportunities, visit our official site: www.march8th.ng or follow us across our social media channels with @friendsofprof.
