The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have decided to suspend their planned nationwide strike, which was scheduled to take place on Wednesday. POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the decision came after a crucial meeting held on Monday night between representatives of the Federal Government and the Organised Labour at the Presidential Villa. The meeting, chaired by Femi Gbajabiamila, the newly appointed Chief of Staff to President Tinubu, proved to be instrumental in breaking the deadlock and finding common ground on the issue of fuel subsidy removal. As a result, both the NLC and TUC have agreed to suspend their strike action. Adding weight to this development, the National Industrial Court had earlier on Monday issued a restraining order against the Organised Labour, preventing them from embarking on any form of strike. The order was made in response to an ex parte application filed before the court, with Justice O.Y. Anuwe presiding over the case. Justice Anuwe’s ruling restrains the TUC and the NLC from proceeding with their planned nationwide strike on Wednesday, pending the hearing and determination of the motion of notice filed on June 5, 2023. Furthermore, the judge has ordered that the defendants (the TUC and the NLC) be promptly served with the necessary court documents, including the originating processes, the motion on notice, and the court’s order. |

Paris Saint-Germain’s Instagram following has dropped by 800,000 after Lionel Messi’s final game for the club on Saturday. The French champions confirmed their final league game of the season would be Messi’s last for the club on Saturday, with a statement claiming they were ‘proud to have had the greatest footballer of all time’. Despite an impressive season in Paris that has seen him score 21 goals across all competitions, Messi’s final game at the Parc des Princes ended in a shock defeat to mid-table Clermont. Supporters booed their star forward after the game, which ended two years that have failed to see them won over by a man who could not bring a Champions League title. As Pete Jenson has written, Messi’s role in Argentina’s World Cup victory over France and his unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia earlier this year are unlikely to have helped his cause. Lionel Messi played his final game for Paris-Saint Germain against Clermont on Saturday Clermont earned a 3-2 win over the hosts at the Parc des Princes on the final day of the season. Whether it was due to the disrespect shown to a beloved star or the confirmation he would be leaving remains unclear, but PSG’s Instagram following took a big hit after the Clermont game. It dropped from 69.9 million to 69.1m, indicative of the influence such a player has on global fandom. Messi leaves France after two league titles and 32 goals, and will at least be missed by his former teammate Neymar. The Brazil forward said on Social Media: ‘Brother… it didn’t turn out as we thought but we tried everything. It was a pleasure to share two more years with you. Neymar said it had been ‘a pleasure to spend two more years with’ the Argentine forward ahead of his departure ‘Good luck in your new stage and be happy. I love you.’ Although Messi has been linked with a sensational return to Barcelona, the club would likely be unable to afford his salary and stay within stringent LaLiga financial limits. Al-Hilal have offered Messi £345million per season to follow Cristiano Ronaldo to the Saudi Pro League. There is also a chance the World Cup winner could join MLS side Inter Miami in a lucrative deal that would include brand deals with Adidas and Apple. |

A human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has claimed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) does not have the legal rights to fix or adjust the price of petrol. Falana insists that the power to fix petrol lies with President Bola Tinubu, because there is no substantive Minister of Petroleum Resources. On May 31, NNPCL announced it has adjusted petrol prices across its retail outlets. NNPCL’s spokesman, Garba Deen Muhammad, cited “market realities” as the reason for the adjustment of the price. But speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Friday, Falana said it was against the law that NNPCL or the so-called “invisible market forces” were fixing the price of petrol. “The NNPC has metamorphosed into a limited liability company. It is now NNPC Limited. To that extent, NNPCs like Total, Exxonmobil, and Shell operating in the oil industry cannot announce increases in the prices of petroleum products. That duty is vested in the government. "Nobody has the right in Nigeria to fix the prices of petroleum products other than the government. You have a price control act and at that time the petroleum act, now PIA,” Falana said.

You Are Immature For Complaining About Fuel Price, Go To Peter Obi Supermarket – Reno Omokri. Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has berated individuals complaining about the hike in fuel price due to the removal of fuel subsidy. He argued that same people who complained about the foreign debt under former president, Muhammadu Buhari administration and also fuming about the current fuel price under President Bola Tinubu administration do not understand the meaning between action and consequence. The political analyst insisted that it is impossible to have it both ways, adding that the reason for the loans from foreign government was to sustain the fuel subsidy. Speaking via Instagram, he wrote, “When you complain that our foreign debt exploded under Buhari and you are now fuming that fuel price has gone up under Tinubu, you show you are immature and do not understand the causal relationship between action and consequences. "You can’t have it both ways. Much of our borrowing was to fund fuel subsidy. If you don’t want an unsustainable debt that neither our children nor we can pay, you MUST accept the new fuel prices. “Nigeria MUST remove partisan politics from fuel, electric power generation, and Ajaokuta Steel Company. Because without tackling those three things, we can never grow to meet our potential. “I know that Buhari, Tinubu, Tunde Bakare, and co did it to us. But I am not on a revenge mission. I am on a rescue mission. It is better to have appropriate fuel price than to have an inappropriate debt burden. "If you don’t like it, go to Peter Obi’s Next Supermarket, buy a can of energy drink, and then use that energy to walk. Simple!”
