■ PO said this severally before election, that was why we said T-Pain is copying his programs except that PO will be financially disciplined. PO will reduce cost of governance & will not delve in criminal enterprise, he'll move from consumption to production with export. Same policies, but difference in optics & aura.
Nigeria's problem is beyond cutting the cost of governance, and one man not delving into a criminal enterprise. This is not just about who occupies the office of the presidency but about the lives and future of 200 million people who can no longer afford to continue living as they have up until now. Try to see past that man politician to see that Nigerians should be beyond looking for saviors in politicians and be at a point where they desire to do nothing but take back their power. The power rightly belongs to the people, not the president or peter obi. undecided

Jonathan did not purchase a private jet, or build a 20 billion Naira VP house either but he didn't do a great enough job to curb corruption. Why? Because your politicians cannot curb the black hole of corruption. Never could! undecided

■ Very good.. my point is where are you channelling the funds to.. go and read mrvitalis earlier post on page 1 about funding the manufacturing sector. Buhari borrowed.. Tinubu is borrowing.. why hasn't it worked? Because they are 1. Mismanagement of funds 2. Funding sectors where the ROI is slow or equally mismanaged.
That's why kobojunkie was talking about addressing the root cause of corruption which I agree with BUT I'm of the opinion we can chew gum and walk at the same time. We can fight corruption and continue to spend on our economy simultaneously
No you cannot fight corruption and continue to spend on our economy simultaneously! Obasanjo, Jonathan, and Buhari claimed they were doing that but today we know that all they did was choose their friends over those who were their rivals. We don't want political and their friends running the game anymore. Nigerians need to be the ones at the helm; for that time, a systemic overhaul is needed. undecided

2. What is with the general inability to comprehend written language here for Pete's sake? Remi Tinubu is a bigoted Racist because on many occasions she has expressed, openly mind you, how she looks down on those who are of different race --ethnicity-- and even different status to herself. For instance, her recent claim that her husband being rich is not a thief while in the same breath insisting that those reduced to poverty by the her husband's policies are merely lazy speaks volumes towards this. Phi said he would end subsidy on fuel.He didn't say he would float the naira at the same time. Meaning the companies collecting subsidy money would end. This would lead to increase in price but less than half of this magnitude because the devalue of naira is also contributory to this fuel escalation.
He would use the subsidy to part defend the naira and for production. Of course he would now borrow less money to also defend the naira.
Increase minimum wage and then streamline and collect tax.
Not 21 billion for VP lodge, 90 billion for hajj or Israel pilgrimage or yacht and the like or SUVs.
Lots of ways to take the step by step approach
Petroleum Subsidy has been revealed a huge fraud used against the Nigerian people. Naira has already been floated and is nose diving towards Naira 2000 probably by end of year.Is Peter Obi still talking of what he would have done differently if he were to have been in Tinubu's shoes. Or is Peter Obi speaking at this time of his plan should be elected to replace Tinubu something in the future? It is unclear a lot of times if he is speaking of the future or of this point in time given the same Peter Obi regarded the likes of Tinubu as his mentor and senior brother. undecided

■ This is not a constitutional issue. You would have the same problem with a new constitution.
■ Okay, that's for visible corruption... how will a new constitution tackle INVISIBLE corruption?
■ What in the present constitution domiciles power in the hands of the elected?
■ I agree with this but you don't need a constitutional overhaul for national orientation.
■ This is just one small way of using a constitutional overhaul to shift power away from public servants to the people who are the true power in any democracy.
You asked for a primary 3 breakdown of how constitutional overhaul can help fight corruption and that is exactly what I gave to you. undecided

1. You are wrong! It is a constitutional issue that has been severely pointed out by many people who have reviewed the document. undecided

2. It would equally help tackle— significantly reduce —what you refer to as invisible corruption given that the entire system is manned, not by ghosts but by Nigerians at all levels. undecided

3. A lot of the decision-making is not in the hands of the people but left in the hands of the elected and that is a problem. For instance, where it concerns the creation of States, LGs, the election of certain officials, and even the adoption of policies --- the people should have some say but the current constitution does not give the people that power at all. That is a problem I have seen for myself. undecided

4. Maybe 12 years ago it was not necessary, but at this point when the Nigerian lives as though a second/third-class citizen in his or her own country, it is not only necessary but the only common sense way to tackle this lack of identity/inclusion that plagues the Nigerian citizenry. A new Constitution, reviewed and approved by the people, will go a long way in emboldening citizens and restoring their lost confidence in the nation. undecided

5. Again, if you need something more complex, there are more than enough write-ups online to help you understand why this is what Nigeria needs most at this point. Not more borrowing to add more debt that will end up leading them nowhere again. undecided

■ You are still "in the air". Let's get down to brass tacks... how do you think a constitutional overhaul will fight corruption. Please explain to me like I'm a primary 3 pupil. Be detailed! Show me the pathway!
One of the main enablers of corruption in the system has been identified as the absence or lack of implementation of Nigerian laws in the last 25 years. Many Nigerians you ask believe that the reason why Nigerians are removed from the monitoring and reporting has to do with the fact that the constitution does not embolden them to take it upon themselves to do something about corruption when they witness or know of it. A constitution that significantly shifts power away from the elected to the people, followed by massive civic education at all levels in Nigeria and sensitization would work to shift power over the democracy away from the elected onto the electorate. This is just one small way of using a constitutional overhaul to shift power away from public servants to the people who are the true power in any democracy. undecided

I hope this has been primary-3 enough for you. undecided

■ Look, I think the exact same way you do and visualize perfectly what you are saying. I have told any and everyone who cares to listen that we MUST have some sort of RESTRUCTURING either through a constitutional amendment or a totally new one to move forward.
■ I suspect you are recommending a total constitutional overhaul as some sort of "scorched earth" solution to " wipe the slate clean" and start afresh but I'm afraid that might not even be enough. I would recommend a BLOODY REVOLUTION as my own scorched earth solution.
■ But kobo, I keep saying repeatedly we MUST BE REALISTIC and in an over ambitious manner throw away the baby with the bath water. Now, in what way exactly do you think a constitutional change will fight corruption? Don't see this as insulting. I just want to understand your thought process.
1. What is clear in the course of this discussion is that you and I do not see things the exact same way and we do not visualize this the same. I did not say anything about RESTRUCTURING. Rather what I have consistently stated is that what Nigeria needs is a complete OVERHAUL of the System and all systems within the system. Note the difference between the two words by the way.
re·struc·ture

organize differently.
convert (the debt of a business in difficulty) into another kind of debt, typically one that is repayable at a later time.
..
o·ver·haul

take apart (a piece of machinery or equipment) in order to examine it and repair it if necessary.
2. Scorched Earth? Wipe-slate clean? What slate is to be wiped clean? Nigeria's debt? Whose slate is to be wiped clean? Your politicians? I don't follow. undecided

3. Throw away what baby? The baby has long died... at this point, Nigeria is walking around with a corpse in its womb as we speak. Corruption has long suffocated the baby and has pretty much become a huge cancer sucking up the nutrients and food that was originally meant for the baby when it was still living. and it needs to be flushed to give a chance for a new baby and maybe an actual delivery this time around. So, what are you afraid of? What is unrealistic about that approach to you? undecided
