Failing as a student in the university can be one among the most discouraging days as a student, This can delaine a student psychologically, emotionally and most times mentally. 1. Not Planning Ones Self: Yes, not planning yourself can be a major cause of failure not just academically but in all fields of life. You must not be in the library all through the day to pass a course and also make an ‘A’ though it is also good if you can but effective planning can make every thing balanced. Most students most fall prey to this, making one part of their self grow fat whereas the other part is begging for mercy. Effective planning as a student is very much important. Plan it, Create timetable and Study faithfully.


2. Fear: Most students even before the semester begins already made their mind that a particular course is not going to be funny due to the fact that older students who took the course told them so. Hey, that’s a lie. Why should you be afraid? Fear can be a major source of you not passing the course any longer because the ideas of what the previous students have put in your mind have already demoralized your future efforts even when the lecturer tries all he can to make the course easy for you, you can’t just seem to get it. Remove all sorts of fear and believe me, those courses they say is the hardest of all would end up being that which you will smash with the highest grade.


3. Inconsistency: I learnt a lot as a student in the UNIVERSITY. Most students sure must have learnt about a particular course even before the lecturer must have released the course outline and since they feel they have got all it takes to pass, they end up not going for the lectures instead using their time lazing around. Hey, no matter how well you think you must have eaten the course, I advice you still go for lectures. There are still things which you lecturer might say in the course of the lecture, which might not be found in the so called book you read. It’s just like when you make a student and someone asks you what did you just say and you find yourself not being able to recall what you just produced. That’s how it goes. Be consistent and try following up the lectures till the end.

Being a student in the tertiary institution does not necessary describe one to be some phlegmatic like fellow. There are many things which you can learn as a student in a tertiary institution, which am going to show you here. 1. Setting of Goals: I can attest that every student any tertiary institution has a goal, whether good or bad. Your success in life starts with the goals you must have set out to achieve, believe me, you can never achieve what you did not plan for, even though you get it out of luck you would never make maximum use of it and it fades away. Setting out goal will easily boost your morale, if you don’t easily achieve it, it still does not count in as much as there is life ,hope and your determination ,is tightly fixed, it’s right time will evolve.

I was essentially learning the material twice. First, alone. Secondly, with the help of an expert. These combined into a solid understanding that I still possess to this day.
It is suggested and advisable that you do this for every class. Also, you may use this technique for anything that you deem to be very difficult or abstract. That way you'll have a great head start on understanding and mastering the hard stuff, leaving plenty of time for filling in the gaps with the easy stuff!

3. Explore other recommended and helpful resources.

Many class outlines will have "optional" reading listed along with the required textbook. This is often a HUGE opportunity for easy marks and guaranteed success in the particular class. Lecturers are humans just like me and you. Their job is to relay the required material and then test you on it. If they're using the required textbook as reference for the learning part, where do you think they're going to get the material for the testing part? If you say "the required textbook", you're probably wrong! Lecturers will often take exam or test questions out of their favorite textbooks, resulting in quality assessments from a trusted source. Those favorite textbooks are often listed as optional reading material on the course outline. Also don't forget the mighty Internet. Use Wikipedia and Google as well to find extra (often better!) resources on whatever it is that you're struggling with.

4. Get to know more of your classmates.

This one can be extremely demanding for many people these days. Meeting people is becoming increasingly difficult in a world of social stigmas and fears of disapproval. I'm not going to tell you how to meet people. But when you do, the benefits will become apparent. Having someone to lean on for notes from a lecture that you missed, being able to bounce questions and ideas off of somebody, and most importantly having someone to check your assignment answers with before you hand it in, are all spectacular reasons to swallow your nerves and start saying "Hi! My name is...." to the people in your class...and don't have too many female friends, if you're a guy

5. Always get your confusions resolved as soon as possible.

Information in your field of study is cumulative and the last stuff you learned will be instrumental in understanding the next stuff! So anytime you don't understand something or have a question about the subject matter, get your question answered as soon as you can. Whether by asking during class, after class, or by asking a fellow student - do it. You need to stay on top of the subject matter in order to be ready for the next stuff that's coming. Don't let the holes in your understanding be knowledge pits for the future!

6. Make maximum and wise use of your time.Use your time wisely in between classes as well as before and after school. There are many opportunities to sneak in some studying or homework that many students either don't realize or just don't use. I've known people who would study on the keke on in the bus during the ride to and from school. I've also known people that would combine the time waiting for a lecture to begin with their study time!
Just bring your notes and instead of pinging or chatting endlessly with friends. You get a workout for your body and for your brain! Always keep your notes handy and use any spare time for simple review to make sure you're on top of the material. All of those small moments you fill with studying will really add up to a solid understanding. You'll discover that you will require less studying when exam time arrives. That's huge.

7. Begin studying for tests and exams early.

Between academics and your social life, time is not something you will have in ample quantity throughout your stay in University. One cardinal act you should always make time for is studying early for exams. There's nothing worse than leaving all of the studying for the night before an important test or exam. 3. You Were Over Occupied!
First, let’s clarify the difference between school and a worship place or a business arena, yeah we understand that fingers are not equal, reason why some student fend form them while all you do is just to put a call through to your dad or mum, but I’ve come to realize that studying and business might go together but not as expected, more so, some students have turned their worship place into a lecture room, they call it serving God brings
perfection and success, but I,ll remind you now in case you forgot that your primary mission in school is to read well and graduate with something worth it.

4. You Don’t Even Understand Yourself!
Yes you might ask what that mean, am gonna tell you, understanding yourself means knowing what exactly work for you, are you the type who takes a coffee before you can read, perhaps you can hardly read with candle, do you even read at night? , oh oh oh so you’ve been working against yourself just because bro Jack goes to night classes doesn’t mean he knows more than you do, I tell you now that I met lot of scholars in my first year who can’t do without clubbing every weekend, yet they are doing really well in their studies. So sit yourself down and understand your philosophy so you can do better next session.

5. You Over-Socialized!
Let’s not blame it all on facebook, IG, whatsapp or even 2go, gosh this social media apps are just not gonna stop to make and mar people’s dreams, technology has so much grown in the last few years, students now connect with anybody anywhere in the world “the world is global” that you just said abi? Yeah but I still don’t get why you stick
to your phone chatting and reading lots of gist while you should be in class or even writing a test, a Prof, sometime asked why students now fail woefully, a student whispered to my ears and said “there was no FB, IG and 2go in your time” I couldn’t help but laugh.

6. You Were An Extrovert!
I don’t know how to categorize this well, but am gonna try to make you understand, gaining admission into higher institution is enough to call an achievement, but I tell you that’s just the beginning of your quest, in remember how many people I called during my first year just to tell them I gained admission, even people I don’t really talk to , I later thought over it and asked “why am I doing this” try to ask yourself the same question. Perhaps you are the type who can’t just keep your happiness to yourself, I dare you to start doing that now, who knows you might just get lucky to change.

7. No Parental Advise!
This should be for the parents, you have done well to pay for her school fees but on the part of caring oooooops you have done woefully bad, when last did you call her to ask if everything was fine, when last did you even visit her in school, I tell you students change in a blink of an eye, don’t be afraid if she returns home acting all weird, yeah you caused it. Do you even call her to encourage her to press on and not to get tired, oh “no one was there to tell me all these” is what u keep saying, stand up and fix this aspect.

8. You Misused Your Freedom!Now you are in school and no one to say “hey Dave, wash those plates” hmmmmm, well you might be free indeed but how do you manage your freedom, playing video games when you ought to be in class, seeing a friend at 10pm or even smoking and drinking, it doesn’t help you a bit, try to fix that.

9. You Lost Your Self Confidence!
This is the major reason why student fail a lot, even after you’ve read every material expected of you, you still feel empty in the skull, it’s not because you are dull but because you have not built your self-confidence, are you the
type that rehearse just a single sentence just to approach your lecturer to clarify something to you? You don’t need to, he’s not God and surely he started from somewhere too.

10. You May Have Had No Plans!
student fail to plan, plan as I know it is a laid down schedule or protocol to observe at a particular point in time, do
you even have time to construct a time-table of your own, do u keep those assignments in your bag when you should take them out and answer, saying it’s not yet time for submission, I’ll do it later. But we all know later might end up being submission day or even beyond that.”

What Should You Do Now?

1. Dev C++ : This is a compiler which is used compiling programs. Most engineering students do scared when it comes to anything relating to coding but those in the field would explain better about the programming aspect of engineering. There are situations where you would be required to produce on work using your own commands. You can't do this on your own, you need this software to help you with the job.
Dev C++ can work with C or C++ programming languages and can be downloaded from softpedia or better still, search for C++ compiler on google.

2. CNC Simulator : Just like many other simulators, this has really made it's way up and is really easy and user friendly when it comes to learning how to use it. CNC Simulator can be used for producing Models which you can achieve through other Simulators by just using codes. This makes designing and modelling easier because with just a arrays of codes, you can achieve a design for your self. CNC Simulator can also be downloaded from softpedia or searched on google.


3.AUTOCAD :I don't really need to say much about this because it's something popular. AUTOCAD is a simulator you can use in designing 3d models and also in machine designs.

4. MATLAB : One awesome software of a kind. With this software, you can command your computer to do some mathematical simulations using mathematical statements. it can also be downloaded from google.

PRESENT YOURSELF APPROPRIATELY : Obviously, physical appearance matters, remember you are being addressed the way you dress.This can actually serve as a bonus mark while meeting for the very first time. Basically, In our culture a lot of times people advise us to compare ourselves with others. "You should be like your father," "You can win; the others aren’t as good as you," "You must be the best of your class," etc., and this is not always the best way of thinking. There are many reasons to change this way of thinking and begin to compare ourselves only with ourselves. This is the way it should be, and in this paper I will discuss some of the most important reasons for this.
Below are reasons why you should stop it.

1.There would always be someone better than you, and also people, you are better than.
It doesn’t mater in which aspect, but it is always true. Therefore, you could feel inferior to others and maybe without a real reason. For example, you can be an incredible architect and the best of your generation, and this can make you feel incredibly good, but if someday someone is better than you are, you could feel sad although you are still the same incredible architect that you were before.

2. It's Damaging To Your Sense Of Self
Mark Twain said that "comparison is the death of joy," and the science agrees. Research has found that comparing breeds feelings of envy, low-self confidence, and depression, as well as compromises our ability to trust others. While downward comparison, comparing ourselves to those less fortunate, can provide some benefit to one's sense of self, even this form of comparison comes at a price. It requires that we take pleasure in someone else's failures or misfortunes in order to feel adequate, which can fuel mean-spirited competitiveness versus collaboration; jealousy versus connection. When comparing leads you to devalue yourself or others you've entered dangerous territory.

3.It Doesn't Actually Help You Accomplish Your Goals
Ruminating about how someone else is better looking, has more friends, or is more successful than you is both time-consuming and ineffective. Being hard on ourselves actually zaps motivation and decreases goal completion. If you really want to live a life that feels fulfilling you need to dedicate your time and energy to your own values. To get your focus in the right place ask yourself the following questions: When you imagine yourself at the end of your life looking back at what you've done, what will be the experiences and accomplishments that will have been most important to you? What kind of person do you want to be? What kind of relationships do you want to have? What do you want people to remember about you? Use these personal values as the barometer upon which you compare, rather than the accomplishments of those around you.

4.There is actually no End to it.
There is no end to the comparison game. There is an infinite number of categories upon which you can compare yourself… and an almost infinite number of people to compare yourself to. Once you start down that road, you will never, ever find an end.

5.It's A Losing Battle.
If comparing is how you evaluate your worth, you will always be losing. In this game of life you will never reach a point where you are better than others in every way and why would you want to be. Part of what makes life awesome and interesting is learning from the talents of others. Instead of trying to be as good as or better than others, focus your energy on being the very best version of yourself. So next time you catch yourself using someone else as a benchmark for your own worth stop and remind yourself how ineffective this strategy really is. Instead, compassionately redirect your energy and attention to your own goals and what is required to achieve them.

For all these reasons and because we are unique, we should not compare ourselves with others, only with ourselves. The only comparison pattern that we really have is our consciousness. So, if we use this pattern we will not feel less or more than others; we will not try to make others look bad; we will not judge so much; and we will accept ourselves as we really are.
