Christianity EtcRe: Dr. David Sheds Some Light. . . Golgotha And Divinity. . . by kolaxy(m): 11:01pm On Oct 29, 2009
@Davidlyan

to address your verse . . . Mark 10:18 – “Do not call me good, only God is good.”

- Firstly i don't see any contradiction with this verse AT ALL. Christ refered to Himself as God openly to the disciples when Phillip asked to be shown the father. I'm sure they would have been super confused at Mark 10:18 if they had absolutely no understanding of its meaning. Christ came in the flesh NOT AS GOD but as man to die on the cross for our sins. In that brief dispensation He was both fully man AND GOD at the same time (again a concept that is humanly impossible), it was thus possible for Him to switch seamlessly between His God-like state and man-like states. For example . . . as a man He was hungry, tired, emotional . . . as God He could walk on water, calm the storm, raise the dead, forgive sin and be a saviour at the same time . . .

@Malbron

Deepsight,

It looks to me  that for some reason you are not fully convinced about the deity of Christ?

David got it right with his last post, but perhaps I can make it clearer if you let me. A human being is made up of flesh, blood and spirit. God is made up of Holy spirit, Word (Christ) and the Father. The three components are one and agree. It is like saying 1+1+1=1, in real life this is possible if we think in terms of base 3, not our conventional 10. The bible affirms that Christ (John1:1) was not created, his being called a son is in terms of manifestation on earth. That is why him and his father are one. They have duality of existence - exist as spirit and can also exist physically. Clearly the ways of God are different from the ways of men. On earth God takes the form of a human being having in blood, flesh and spirit. The difference between God and a human being is that His spirit is not given to him by measure and that makes him superior. The Godhead can separately manifest on earth. Matter of fact the parable of the wicked husbandmen comfirm the fact that the Son's manifestation will be followed by the manifestation of the Father and the  Holy spirit and all the children of God.

Jesus was a man born of the spirit of God, not carnal desires of man. He came to perform a distinct assignment and after that assignment, he took on his divine form. Notice that after his ressurrection he could appear and disappear at will, and he was not recognized by the disciples or Mary except for his voice or when he "opened" their eyes.

The Almighty Father confirmed the deity of the son, please read Hebrew 1: 8.

But I have a problem with some christians who are waiting for him to drop from the sky. That is a result of wrong interepretation of scriptures. Let me stop for now
Good points guys. God bless you  wink

Do you see what he is claiming? He does NOT say, these are the teachings that God has given me. Follow these rules and you will get to heaven. Neither did he just say, "follow God, submit to God", but he said "Follow ME!".

Do you forget that it was largely as a result of Paul's effort that Christians came to be persecuted and hated so much by the Roman empire? muslims all hate Paul today because he did not allow God's truth as preached by Jesus to be forgotten, atheists now accuse Paul of creating Christianity simply because he did not allow this Gospel to be forgotten, I wish to appreciate the Holy Spirit for the great work he did in the life of brother Paul.

Titus 2:11-15 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say 'No' to ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope--the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himeslf for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you "

Hebrews 9:25-28

25 Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. 26 Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. wink
Christianity EtcIf You Died, Why Should God Let You Into Heaven? by kolaxy(op): 11:12pm On Oct 23, 2009
If you died, why should God let you into heaven?

Think about it. If you died today and stood before God in heaven and He asked you, “Why should I let you into Heaven?” what would you say to Him? Prayerfully think about it and hold the answer in your mind.

If your answer was anything like “Because I am a good person” or “I’ve done more things right than wrong” or anything that is based on what you do, then you should recommit yourself to the liberating truth of the Gospel today!

The first answer that should have come to your mind was something like “I am saved by grace” or “Because Jesus is my Lord and Savior” or something that shows you have a clear understanding of the gospel. Remember, salvation is a gift from God to us. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can we be saved. Eternal life begins the moment we truly receive Jesus Christ into our life by faith.

Check out these scriptures:

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:5).  wink
Christianity EtcJesus Christ - The Lamb Of God by kolaxy(op): 9:56pm On Oct 23, 2009
Lamb of God - The Messiah

The Messiah is called the "Lamb of God" throughout the Bible's New Testament. This may seem a peculiar label to those who aren't familiar with biblical idioms, but to those who know their Bible, it is a cherished title for the beloved Messiah, Jesus Christ.

Lamb of God - Biblical Roots

Prophetic pictures and references to the coming Lamb of God are scattered throughout the Bible's Old Testament. Indeed, many Bible scholars believe that the entire Bible (66 books written by 40 authors over a period of approximately 1,600 years) tells the story of Jesus Christ. Every story, every genealogy, every number, every page, every detail speaks of our Lord and Savior. In the first book of the Bible, Genesis, we find one of the better-known prophecies of the coming Lamb of God. In Genesis 22, God commands Abraham to offer his beloved son Isaac as a sacrifice. God is not endorsing child sacrifice among men -- He is foretelling His Child sacrifice for men. Abraham is obedient to God, not willing to keep anything from God, even his beloved son. This was a test for Abraham and a testimony to the world. On the way to the altar, Isaac asks his dad, "Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?" In response, Abraham prophesied, "My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together" (Genesis 22:7-cool.

When they arrive at the place of sacrifice, Abraham prepares to offer Isaac to the Lord, but before Abraham could slay his child, God stops him. We read, "Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the Angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, 'Abraham, Abraham!' So he said, 'Here I am.' And He said, 'Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me'" (Genesis 22:10-12). Before they leave the mountain top where Abraham was to offer Isaac, Abraham again prophesies the coming of the Lamb of God, "And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, 'In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen'" (Genesis 22:14). Approximately 2,000 years later, upon that very same mountain just outside of Jerusalem, God offered His only Son, the Lamb of God, as a sin offering to reconcile fallen man to the Holy Living God Almighty. wink

Christianity EtcWhat Does The Bible Say About Suicide? by kolaxy(op): 2:00am On Oct 22, 2009
Are you feeling that life isn't worth living anymore? Do your problems seem too big to handle? Does it seem that no one cares? Sometimes these feelings of despair or apathy cause people to think about suicide. What does the Bible say?

But what does the Bible say about taking your own life?

God has a great plan for your life. God has created us in His image (Genesis 1:26-27).He created us for a purpose. God has a specific plan in mind for everyone.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).

God's plan is for life, not death. The Bible teaches that both physical and spiritual death are the result of our sin and disobedience to God, but eternal life is a gift to those who receive it.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23).
Jesus taught that death and destruction are the work of “the thief” (Satan). He said,

The thief comes only to steal and destroy (John 10:10).
John 8:44 says that Satan is a “murderer” and the “father of lies.” The feelings of despair that lead to suicide are caused by some of his lies.

Jesus wants us to have life. He said:

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full (John 10:10).
Life belongs to God. It is never our place to take our own life or someone else's life.

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
