charlesemeka85: Nigeria international forward Moses Simon was once again the match winner for French Ligue 1 side Nantes as his well placed header earned them a 1-0 win over Nice, Owngoalnigeria.com reports.
The Nigerian took a vintage position in the box of Nice to head home what ended as the winner with five minutes left to play in the game where the win moved them up to second on the log.
Simon who is on a season long loan deal to Nantes from Laliga side Levante has already bettered his last season record where he found the back of the net once in 19 games, he has two in just seven games this season.
Known for his pace, skills and pin point crosses his somersault celebration has already won over the fans of Nantes who view the 24 year old as a player who can help them achieve their dream of playing in Europe next season. Bruv na you talk the bold hmmm tjat one no be true. |

safarigirl: abroadian is anybody that lives in the abroad, usually born and bred. Were you are born can influence you to a great degree, but the BIGGEST INFLUENCE possible is your parents if they they play their role correctly. I was born in the UK and l went to Nigeria for the first time when l was 11. Before l became too Oyibo according to my Father and off to boarding school in Warri I was despatched. I am not Ibo, but l speak Ibo l understand and speak my language as well. I have a workable understanding of Yoruba very basic though. My cultural identity is entirely Nigerian but l can be multi faceted. When I'm with oyibo you would think i am a lost son. Often l hear Nigerian talking about me thinkibg l dont understand what they are saying sometimes derogatory. That's very amusing when l then speak Ibo or Yoruba to them. When l reach Warri you may think that na complete area I be. So am l still an Abroadian ❓ There are Nigerians who were born and bred in Nigeria predominantly the women. Some from small towns and villages. On arrival they become more oyibo than the Oyibos denying all things Nigerian within a few weeks in the UK. Are they not Nigerian born and bred ❓ Something to think about its not so simplistic. |

iSlayer: I think Saka was the one who was interviewed and stated unequivocally that he is Nigerian. Getting those ones are easy. Has Tomori or even worse still Tammy ever ever identified as Nigerian? I don't think so.
If people can consider what these players identify as, not everyone will be feeling so disappointed afterwards.
Arnaut Danjuma is an example. During one of his interviews he spoke of Nigeria as one distant place he's not familiar with. Few weeks later the opportunity came and he flew at it, joining the Dutch team. Identity can be a very convoluted concept. What do Nigerian overwhelmingly identify with above any other component, and are prepared to sell thier nation and people for no Matter the cost. What thing makes us in general nave no iota of conscience and or integrity. It's very simple MONEY. Hypothetically speaking, imagine the entire Nigerian U20 team born and bred went to the USA for a tournament. After the tournament they were all given the option to change nationality to play for the USA. How many do you think will return back to Nigeria. ❓ ❓ ❓ So this your proposition is essentially hypocritical knowing our nature in general. |

safarigirl: how many village meetings do you take your kids to?
Yes, society plays a role, but then, a child can only identify so much with what he is exposed to.
For instance, I fiercely identify as Igbo, but I was neither born nor bred in the East, I wasn't even surrounded with Igbo people growing up. I haven't been to my father's place in almost 18 years, I barely identify with them, but generally, I am fiercely Igbo, by some weird occurrence.
Same way certain people may not have grown up in Nigeria, but fiercely identify as such from years of what many would term indoctrination.
When it comes down to it sha, there is no manual for these things. Some will identify, others won't; like John Boyega and Chiwetel Ejiofor, both British-Nigerians, one barely identifies with his Nigerian side, the other infuses his Nigerian side in everything. There is also the end that, children are more likely to identify with their mother's side than their fathers most of the time, so, I understand where wayodude is coming from.
For instance, if someone like me marries an abroadian, the way I will soak that child in Banga soup and Egusi, your Nigerian accent will be popping from the abroad sef Nne beeco what do you mean by abroadian ❓ |

wayodude: Guys in the end it's a matter of the heart. I am Nigerian and also British. Had I been a player in a position to pick between playing for either country there is no way on earth I will be as happy banging in goals for England as I would doing it for Nigeria. My heroes are Yekini, Finidi, Okocha etc...
Now...my cousins are dual nationals as well and they will rather wait to play for England until they retire then even think of playing for any other country. Their heroes are Lineker, Gascoigne, John Barnes etc. I don't judge them it's just the way it is...
My son is only 6 years old and as much as I try to make him realise we are Naija first and British second he is naturally more aligned with his British side, from his mum, school, neighbors etc if in the future he was a football player I honestly feel he will be happier playing for England. Who knows eh I really can't say too much personally because that would be too loose anonymity. But I will use the Biblical phrase, " Bring up a child in the way of the Lord, and he will not depart from it" Now let me give you my personal transposition of that infallible word from a Warri perspective. Bring up a child as a Warri Pikin, he no go carry lass, Eéeeeeee go chop Ukodo and not potato, Eéeeeeee go Dance OKOMOKO and not British pop, he go yarn well wellu, anytin Papa talk eeee go follow, NO SHAKIN. I was born in the UK but made in Warri by Warri parents. So I strongly disagree with you. SORRY NO VEX |

Mujtahida: Local players dem era has passed. Let kog45 come tell us what it looked like during the 80's. From the 90's with the crop of Amokachi, Oliseh, Babayaro and others, Nigeria transitioned to using foreign based players and has not looked back.
Local players are simply not just good enough. This is the reality. But instead of going for the best, we would bring in sabotaging criteria like 'we must have local league players in the NT', very much the same way we use stupid criterion of tribe and religion to select leaders.
"So long as he's from my tribe, I no care." This is how most Nigerians think. A Nigerian would rather vote in a thief from his tribe and religion than a sound and astute technocrat who is of a different ethnic and religious stripe.
Local league players no good, dem no just good. They have been tested many times and they have failed abysmally. There's something deficient in them that makes them fall short of the intelligence required in today's game. THANK YOU |

Those who detest foreign born players will have no choice but to surrender to the reality that will manifest then.

We are talking legality and identity, a person with one passport can pretend all he cares that doesn't change the fact that he is is totally Nigerian
A foreign born can speak as much local language but at the end of the day he is a citizen of different countries and will choose with which to identify I know governors and Chief Judges who have dual nationality. So after serving the country for many decades you think in your small mindedness that they have not IDENTIFIED with Nigeria. LaMujer: This lesser Nigerian talk is true. Of course there's no rule on it, but I only see people of Nigerian descent, who actually want to have something to do with Nigeria as Nigerian.
There are many people of Nigerian descent who don't want to be associated with Nigeria, you can't tell me because their parents are Nigerians, that they're as Nigerian as I am. That's not possible naa.
Those who admit their Nigerian roots, fine, yes, they can be called Nigerian. And not because one person has gone far in the world, we start to flirt with the person as Nigerian even when the person doesn't acknowledge as one I know many Nigerian that as soon as they land Gatwick airport. They completely deny all things Nigerian. They put on a fake accent and spend night and day bashing Nigeria. They were born in Nigeria and were brought up in Nigeria but hate all things Nigerian. Unfortunately, l have seen this more in women than men. All the cultural norms and values that they revered and upheld over decades are dashed in minutes. They have become more oyibo than the Oyibos. Yes, somebody with dual citizenship is definitely less Nigerian than somebody whose loyalty lies only to Nigeria
Ekong, Balogun, Aina are really crumbs that have fallen to us from European nations, but have distracted us from the main issue, OUR FOOTBALL STRUCTURE IS IN DISARRAY
You may comfort yourself with the crumbs that have fallen to you from the European table, that does not hide the fact that we are beggars in the midst of plenty That is a nonsensical proposition with no substance whatsoever. Do you know how many sitting governors, members of Senate, Representatives and other elected officials have dual citizenship. Add to that High Court judges and Chief judges, Ministers, Commissioners, etc. Look at Nigeria and look at the % of middle class parents that have had thier children in the USA. I wonder WHY❓ Do you know what percentage of Nigerian players past and present that have dual citizenship. It actually is in the larger majority. The question then becomes what makes you a loyal citizen. Having one Nigerian passport alone according to you. |

Kog45: Hmmm,wetin we go do.
Nigeria league is dead and to revive it would take a miracle which is not even feasible for now based on what i saw of Nigeria leagues in the 80s,90s and part of early 2000s.
I see how humility 017 has been murmurings about NPFL,coaches and how he was so frustrated about football set up in Nigeria leagues but what is certain we cannot run away from reality facing us.Thanks to these FBs boys coming up and serving as rescuers.
Those of us,may be icon4s,goldfish80,omonbala,Kokmne, thegoodjoe, forgiveness etc who had the opportunities of following Nigeria football development since 80s can say much about how it went wronged.
Nigeria football was beauty to watch in the 80s with high class of coaches, namely Father Tiko,Otto Gloria,Alabi Aissien of Bendel Insurance, James Peter,Chris Udemezie,Paul Hamilton,Willy Bazuaye,Jossy Lad of Leventis utd fame,Dominguez an Argentine who coached Rancher bees in the 80s,Joe Erico,Tunde Disu,Kadiri Ikhana,Baraje,Kafaru Alab,Kelechi Emereole,Alphonsus Dike etc
These are the coaches that shaped Nigeria football they are well schooled when it comes to football with different refresher coaching courses in abroad and far better than the coaches we have now managing our players.
Also good football administrators who are ready to sacrifice for the growth of the beautiful game are on ground, administrators like Anthony Ikhazobo,Emeka Omeruo,Nathaniel Idowu the father of Philip Idowu a british runner,Isaac Akioye,Patrick Okpomo,Sylvester Akibwumi,SB Williams,Greek born John Mastroudus etc.
Then it was a joy watching Nigeria league with player like Emma Okala,Segin Odegbami who i still rated as the best winger to ever come out of Africa,Muda Lawal who Ndidi Wilfred still has his record to beat, this league produced best of the best wigers like Adokiye Aimiesemeka, Felix Owolabi,Humphrey Edobor,Folorunsho Okenla,James Etokebe,Friday Elaho, Emma Amuneke,Chris ohenhen, Victor Ikpeba, these left wingers that our talented Chuckwueze would find it difficult to bench but they are products of the now dead leagues.
Oh anytime i remembered Segun Odegbami,Benji Nzeakor,Tarila Okoronwata,Wole Odegbami,Augustine Igbinabaro,Ndubuisi Okosieme,Emma Okocha,Uwem Ekarika,Jide Oguntuase,Tijani Babaginda,Finidi George etc i laughed at people rating Simeon Moses,Samuel Kalu,Oyekwuru,Olayinka and co,these guys cannot lace the boots of these old wingers. And these guys are product of the same league.
I watched one of eagles old tapes against Mexico and i saw how good was home based Ajibade Babalade in that match.Godwin Okpara was delighted to watch,a CB with beautiful skills.Chidi Nwanu was so strong as CB despite being a very average in height,Ben Iroha was a product of this league playing for eagles,Finidi entered eagles starting eleven as home based,Thompson Oliha the samething,Moses Npakor also as home based player.
I remembered Peter Rufai,Patrick Ikeji,Best Ogedegbe,Willy Agbonibare,Raymond Best,William Opara,Lateef Yusuf who still has the record of highest clean sheets in Nigeria. These keepers are products of Nigeria league, not to talk of Enyeama,Ejide,Aiyenugba,Etafia or era of Biodun Baruwa,Emma Babayaro,Dosu Joseph,Bode Babbignton,Leye Akinde,Victor Gbenebichie but now no keeper good enough for eagles, we need to resort to a div 3 keeper in Okoye Maduka, wahala dey,the league is dead.
I just don't know what we can do to revive Nigeria football,i mean NPFL.In the 80s,90s we have university students playing in the same leagues, player like Emma Olisadebe,Peter Ayilobi,Gabriel Jigbale,Edith Agoye,Adeolu Adekola,Andrew Uwe,Impowosa Omoregie,Niyi Ogunlana,Seyi Olofinjana,Nosa Osadolor,Yemi Akinyanju, etc.
Humidity baba,i know your grievances but what can we do to solve this issue still remained a mirage.
CC:Icon4s,Michael2,goldfish80,forgiveness, Taliban, tbaba,Kokmne. You have given us another outcome delivery of the complete and endemic failure of government. Tell me one sector in Nigeria that does not reflect the same symptoms. This problem exceeds football it is the Nigerian problem. I finished high school in Nigeria and for a brief period l worked in an accounts department in a tertiary institution in Nigeria at my Father's request. Corruption was endemic and rife l challenged it at great cost. In the end all the accounting staff were sacked apart from myself and the Chief accountant who in the middle of the night slaughtered a goat in satanic ritual. I left not long after that back to England, l could see that integrity and honesty were no longer attributes of commendation in Nigeria. On this thread there is in depth resentment to diaspora Nigerians and or so called Foreign born Nigerians. But why l am at loss. Meanwhile look at how our people take every insult under the sun, denigration and abuse to get a visa to leave the country. It's incomprehensible we show so much displeasure about foreign born Nigerians yet we want to get there. A Nigerian owned TransGlobim International won a £500 million contract to build a railway line in Iraq. But couldn't even get off first Base in his own country. Even to get an MOU was like almost impossible with all kinds of delays and unnecessary bureaucracy. We reject honesty and truth but welcome corruption, nepotism, illegality and government impunity. I watched how my former Governor after leaving prison was welcomed by the entire political elite at the highest levels. Do you know it is very much easier I mean. VERY EASY for me to become an MP in England. But the depth of depravity l would have to go through to become a state house of assembly selected and then elected makes it impossible for me. This problem exceeds football we need a change not of government but in ourselves. Until we change as a people we will get the rulers we deserve. |
