realpoacher: Why are you contradicting yourself?
You said we lost the game from our wingbacks because they provided no cover for our Fullbacks FB. How is that different from my proposal of 352, playing a 5-man midfield to provide enough cover for the defense?
Did you check their formation at all? They played a 442. Which translates to a 4-man midfield and that explained why they outplayed us in the middle because we played with a 3-man midfield. That is we played a man less. Etebo and Ndidi were completely overworked and by extension our fullbacks too in Awaziem and Collins.
How else do you intend to curtail such lapse if not by crowding the midfield to provide a fighting chance for players?
Switching to a 352 will give us 3 important advantage.
1. Naturally a 352 formation is a mass-attack, mass-defending formation without all the players particularly running the length and bredth of the field.
2. Your right wing backs and left wing backs will provide excellent support to your defense, midfield and attack at the same time. Aina is perfect for RWB, while either of Musa/Moses is perfect for LWB.
3. The midfield of Etebo and Ndidi will not be overworked and also our attack will have two potent people to disturb their 4-man defense rather than having only Ighalo upfront.
Rohr bottled this match last night.
He should go, and taking Mikel, Ogu, Akpeyi, Ezenwa with him You are saying what l am in principle but with different diction. Formation are not rigid, they change as the game progresses. If you have a winger who is finding it easy to beat the opposing players 1on 1 and 1 on 2,, that player becomes striker once he gets in the box, for example ronaldo, Zaha, etc. Whatever formation we played 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 in both the quality of wing back or full back is INTRINSICALLY CRUCIAL. Awaziem has intelligence but no pace and very limited technical ability. Collins has pace but not blistering buy no intelligence and technical ability. We are saying the same thing only difference I amusing the term fullback and wingback as being the same thing essentially. |

Joebie: Someone who is in the contention for the top scorer in this AFCON should retire. Ighalo is not one of my fav players but lets call a spade a spade. He remains relevant. 100% correct. In the absence of the desirable the available becomes desirable. |

AIG07: We see things differently and this is not the first time I'm stating g this... Awaziem might not be weak but wasn't solid. He was caught out of position few times. Hardly won ariel duels. He was a makeshift and there is not emotional in that. It was Shehu @the world cup.
He has done well to bring stability to the team. But if we must progress we must do so with someone else not Rohr. When l called Awaziem the weakest link some described me as being biased and negatively prejudiced towards Nigerian born players. How can you play wing back and have no pace, that's why he plays in Turkey. |

Danielnino00: I'll always appreciate Rohr for the good things he has done for our football.. He took us back to the AFCON after 2 failed attempt. He has brought unity into the team, such that hasn't been seen in a while..
But after 3 heatsink charge and considering how much support he has received, we deserve better than this... there's nothing he has achieved that some other coaches haven't.. we have a talented squad on our hand.. A tactically astute coach is needed to help us move forward ... When you say talented squad do you mean top quality players❓We had two quality experienced midfielders in Etebo and Ndidi. Iwobi is good but he is not a top quality player hr doesn't have the CONSISTENCY. But the pertinent word used is squad, which implies a good number of top quality players. We simply do not that's the reality. In my opinion they did us proud and went beyond thier limited abilities. |

AIG07: First of all, Congratulations to Algeria. It's a well deserved victory. they did it in style and inflicted pain on 180 million people. They edged us out not because they have better players but A BETTER COACH.
I can't believe we still have folks who still want Rohr to stay. Rohr staying is more or else being satisfied with Mediocrity.
Are you not tired with all this Make shift approach. Deploying personel to wrong positions. I knew it was going to backfire. Awaziem has been solid all through but against weaker sides.
I have always said this. Balogun remains our best defender. Rohr axed him without a replacement. He sets up his defense without a ball playing CB.
He and Alloy Chose a comic goalkeeper in Akpeyi (don't even know what to say about this guy). Akpeyi will always be Akpeyi... He went and hide himself behind the wall and couldn't jump/fly.
Rohr had 3years to assemble a team, yet he gave us this shit. I don't know why many celebrate him? He experimented for 3years with no result. I think we deserve More.
As I have always said, we will never see the true potential of this team under Gernot Rohr.
Well done guys. We live to fight another day. I don't completely agree with you. I think until we find a better replacement we should still persevere with Rohr. What we don't know is the extent to which his hands were tied when it came too scouting and player selection. There are and continue to be other influences. He is not stupid he knew we had handicaps in midfield and defence. But did we invite enough players to be tested to consider other options, CAPITAL NO. He did the best with what he had albeit with some very stupid mistakes. Knowing fully well the kind of team Algeria is his selection was not the best. IMO. |

Danielnino00: People like Emeka from some godforsaken slum thinks Rohr is the best thing to happen to our football since Okocha..
How many super eagles coaches have actually enjoyed the financial support and patience Rohr has enjoined in the super eagles? Shuaibu Amodu qualified us for the world cup and also reached the AFCON semi final but we saw how he was treated. Keshi won us the AFCON and reached the world cup round of 16 with a far less talented squad and amidst several fight with his employees but he was sacked... Who is Rohr compared to them?? Some folks here like Mr Emeka obviously like licking the an*s of everything white... You have descended too low as dissapointed as you may be about our defeat, WE ALL ARE, but there is no need for gutter language. |

realpoacher: Algeria won this game from the midfield. They simply overran our trio of Iwobi, Etebo and Ndidi from start to finish.
Rohr in his usual self was too rigid and slow to tactics change.
If were him, in the second half i would have crowded my midfield by switching to 442 or 352 formation but purposely for this game 352 is perfect.
At the start of the second half, i would have brought in Ola Aina for Collins. Omerouh, Ekong, Awaziem will be in defense. Musa LWB, Aina RWB, both of them will support Iwobi, Etebo and Ndidi making 5-man midfield.
Ighalo and Chukwuese as two front man.
At the 70th minute, remove Chukwuese for Osimehen, and 80th minute bring in either simon or onauchu for Musa depending on whether we chasing the game or not.
Honestly, it cost nothing to play with a bravery at all times.
I detest timid people With your approach we would have been flogged comprehensively. The best part of our gam was the midfield. This game was lost from the wing back positions. They by passed our midfield and almost similar to what we did to Cameroon. And there was no service to our wingers. However, wing play is not just about dribbling but the final quality ball. Chukwueze and Musa thier final balls were far from accurate and precise. The situation was further compounded because Algeria had studied Chukwueze in depth. On the occasion he tried to dribble past or outpace them he was neutralised and caged. Musa actually using raw pace had more successful runs but very poor end product. But they started defence with attack and attacking our RB and LB. I knew that Awaziem was always the weakest link. To play the wing back position you need pace, intelligence and technical ability. Awaziem has no pace although he is intelligent with limited technical ability. Did anybody see Awaziem go 1 on 1 and beat anybody Collins is very limited technically but l assumed he had pace. He is fast but not fast enough. All the Algerian players were beating our fullbacks for fun all the time and anytime. I was afraid that Awaziem would get sent off because he was getting overrun all the time. He eventually got a yellow. This was the first area we lost the game. Our full backs could not connect with our wingers. From the beginning they were under pressure and that caused our CB'S to be jittery how we survived the first half and conceding only one goal was a miracle. I would have played Simon and Aina playing as wingbacks they have better football intelligence and Simon has pace to burn. Aina may not have blistering pace but he better football intelligence than Collins. My view the game was lost mainly from our wingbacks positions IMO. |
The better team won today
Rohr tried his best with the players available to him
We shouldn't be quick to sack him but I think we need to get sound backup tactician.
Sacking him means starting from the scratch. New coach, new players, new team which takes years.
So far, Rohr hasn't done too badly.
Let us remember where we were before Rohr. We couldn't make back to back Nations cup tourneys. If at our first nations cup, we get to the Semi-finals, then that's saying a lot about how much the Super Eagles has transformed.
Although, I would've loved if we carried the day, this result helps us to realistically gauge our capabilities in football
Let's give Rohr some more time, I believe that the sky can only be our limit in future

Mickael2: Bros if after coaching the same set of players for over three years and yet your team is only good enough for the semifinal which we have reached 15 times out of 18 then maybe it is not the team that isn't good enough but you. Quality players make quality teams. We lacked quality in some key areas our Defence is weak. |

Joebie: I would have taken off Musa instead of Samu. Burt that does not still guarantee anything. Chukwueze has played one season of first team football. He doesn't have a lot of experience what propels him rew talent. The Algerians studied him and simply caged him, he got little or no supply but his end product is still in need of a lot of work. I would have subbed Awaziem for Simon and Still taken off Chukwueze for Onyekuru. I would have taken off Aina for Collins and looking for Onuachu so we can get physical and play last 10 minutes police game, i.e. ball in the air long ball for Onuachu to hold up. That means I would have taken off Iwobi. Man of the match for me was Etebo |

He needs to have the ball played into space to use his pace.

Danielnino00: Oga stop the sentiments . our wingers aren't the only ones crossing the ball.. A lot of long balls have been played from defence.. Ighalo is simply poor with aerial balls. U don't see d long balls being hurled at Musa? Even if Drogba was up front for us he wouldn't have got any header on goal. |

samtol4: It is now left for the coach to make tactical changes .Bring in onyekuru to pile pressure on the Agerian defense The issue is not the front players but the wing backs they have been found out and rendered impotent. Have you seen any intelligent play from our wingers backs they can't press forward and can't win any 1 on 1 play. I know for sure Moses Simon will make a difference if he replaces Awaziem. Collins has no football intelligence I think Aina will be better, but it may be too late. Mahrez is a very difficult players to beat and contain. We are in for a long night hopefully they will make errors for us to capitalise on. Iwobi is also not penetrating with his passes. |

Taliban: oga u be nigerian now, don't play the i told u cArd now. Let's all hope for the best ogether. It's constructive criticism and the multiplier effect of poor selection. I thought Collins was fast and he could use speed to compensate for lack of football intelligence. He has lost all his 1 to 1 that causes our CB's to get jittery and then maker errors. The question is what will ROHR do about it now. |

Khaytunechi: Is Ighalo cursed to not win headers up front?? What sort of brainfart is going on at the back too.. You can only win a header from a quality ball. We have wingers who shockingly cannot cross the ball |
