mufutau55: I think my Papa and your Papa are brothers.. smiley Mine always says the same thing. I think it's an old Yoruba proverb.

Hajji M.
Chief Mufutau, this is a very useful African proverb, a goading stick for all age groups, especially for very young people.
I'm not well versed in Igbo proverbs, but i'm sure we've got proverbs that relays same message.
May be Oga Spyder can help me with one smiley?

mufutau55: I meant to say concrete divider is another type of rails.. not just iron rails. Or even those plastic dividers with sand or water filled would have been nice. May be my message was too vague. Thanks.
Hajji Mufutau
Voila!........Fair enough......It's now an issue of metal vs concrete rails. If It were so, I believe Passion007 would have understood you better, and might not even have raised the issue of safety of the kids. Thanks

mufutau55:
Oga Spyder, is there really a reason to put those rails by the roadside anyway; instead of using heavy concrete dividers like in Obodo...

It does not make economical sense to me.. it cannot even server as a barriers for vehicles. Enugu is really trying, my brother.. how I wish other States can emulate this improvements.
Hajji M.
passion007: I believe the rails are very necessary for the safety of school children. That short stretch of Abakpa Cantonment is home to several schools: NAOWA Nursery School, NAOWA Primary School, Command Children's school, Army Children's School 1, Command Day Secondary school, Army Children's School 2.
Kids will play along that road, thus endangering themselves. Those rails are important to hedge them in.
[quote author=mufutau55]Of course, I am not saying rails are not needed, I am just saying different type of rails should have been installed, no0t just for beautification purposes but for safety reasons. Thanks.
Hajji M.

Hajji, i thought your post suggested rails in general should not be used, that concrete dividers should have been better. Unless the 'concrete dividers' meant rails. Hence his reply.

spyder880:
The side we laid blocks earlier when we hired the first pumping machine has been removed.
I ordered the blocks to be removed so I can have a uniform raft round the whole house. Every part of the foundation is cast with reinforced concrete now. Lots of money going into this but we must do it right. cheesy

water is always good for the concrete after it has set. The hassles will soon be over when we complete the block works in the foundation stage. Building houses is not easy o, but we have no choice than to be tough and courageous.
I thought as much but just wanted to confirm from the Oga patapata.... those blocks wouldn't have firmed up submerged in water. And not a totally bad news for the raft under water. There is no choice than to be tough under this circumstance.
Good.

spyder880: Another area, another man wanted to fence his compound but water no gree cheesy cheesy

spyder880: Of course it's been raining heavily in Enugu for the past 3 days. Because of this most places are soaked in water. The semi-raft work we did here was covered in water and we couldn't work today. I have a pumping machine in my car now and we are going to deploy this in this site tomorrow morning.
Chairman, I have not been able to see the full view of this particular foundation. Some other sides have blocks laid on the blinding i guess, and how are they faring under this water? My eyes really dey scratch me o.
On the flip side, is there any advantage to the raft being under water for a few days? Will it make the reinforcement stronger?

spyder880: The weather is angry in the whole of Enugu city, serious rainfall for the past 3 days has left every where wet. But the boys need money, so we are here working while the sky is still heavy with more rain clouds.
The boys must earn a living na grin
I guess the rains are the last heavy ones before the "August break".
Good job
Properties › Re: The Making Of "The Port Harcourt Castle" by kostadinis: 11:41am On Jul 31, 2014
spyder880: Welcome James, carbon monoxide poisoning happens where the fumes from the generating source has no way of assimilation into the open air in the environment, like in a confined space where the fumes cannot escape easily. This is more reason why we are creating enough holes on two sides of the house, top to bottom, this will aid more ventilation and air circulation, thereby avoiding the build up of smoke that might be poisonous.

Also consider the position of the gate house, right on top, there is no way the fumes could build up easily inside the gate house because the breeze in the environment will always spread it into the atmosphere.

If you notice, most of the cases of carbon monoxide poisoning we have experienced are from buildings on the ground floor, below the fence level where ventilation is poor.
Mr. Chairman, I wish this Generator House was constructed away from the Gate house. Anyone living and workng directly on top of a structure housing a heavy duty generator will likely have a consderable exposure to the soot and gases. And we must not under estimate the measure of havoc the exposure could wreck.

Even in the remotest scenario, road users, workers and residents of industrial cities are known to develop serious health problems from fumes. I'm also not sure whether the danger to exposure has anything to do wth height (ground or upper floor)as the substances are airborne. I'll advice you think about it again.

I don't know what's going on here....I log in but have problem posting my comments undecided

spyder880: Work continues on Monday with reinforcement for the foundation.
My brother, It wouldn’t have been possible without a raft reinforcement o.
I could see why you went back to the drawing board to figure out the best solution for this unusual environment in Enugu. It’s great you finally found a solution. Good work. Keep walking

I must say this is a good one for your archive.
Properties › Re: Tigerkenn Homes Property Development Initiative by kostadinis: 11:16pm On Jul 26, 2014
spyder880: There are a lot of reasons why I am looking seriously at Uguogo Nike.

1. Lands are cheap there in comparison to Enugu town.
2. There is no more space inside Enugu town, so the town is pushing this way (I have to be here to wait for the town to come and meet me here cheesy)
3. Food and agricultural products are very cheap here, a farming population
4. If an Nsukka man becomes the next governor of Enugu state, this place will experience rapid development, as this community is very close to Nsukka zone.
5. A lot of notable personalities, companies, churches are already buying lots of lands around here, I need to take position too.
6. This place is halfway between Enugu and Nsukka zones, the development of the two towns will be felt here.
I share your thoughts here; now is the best time for Ugwuogo.
Another good judgement.

spyder880: The water flooded the entire foundation, filling it up. This was after we had completed the concrete blinding and bought blocks, cement, sand etc to start foundation block setting this morning.
Chief Spyder, I guess this is the first time you're encountering a situation like this in the 'dry and rocky' Enugu. It all means Geologists did not really carry out a thorough hydro study of the territory. If there should be natural precipitation of underground water at such shallow levels, then 9th-Mile-Corner is the wrong place to dig for fresh water. Dis one no need too much investigation.

Back to the current situation: It's very certain the current heavy rains contributed to the flooding of the foundation making everything ugly. Talk to your client. I'll advice you get an inexpensive small water pumping machine if the water fails to dry up by tomorrow. With that in place, I think your team will be laying the blocks on the already cured blinding in less than two hours. Our Oga Spyder no bi quitter o smiley Relax, stay strong and have a nice weekend.
Properties › Re: Low Cost Housing. A Case Study Of The Cost Of Building A 2 Bedroom Bungalow. by kostadinis:
spyder880: My client has requested that we increase the size of the house further. We are trying to shift the foundation of the house outwards to implement the changes. Some of the already dug foundation will be filled while new ones will be formed.
This issue is not unusual in building construction. However, my little question is: was this plan handed to you by the client, or was he presented with the plan with a view to customize it?

The sizes of the rooms from my observation are way too sub-standard that if this plan did not originate from your client, might have compelled him to demand for their expansion. This is just very natural.

spyder880: This area is very prone to underground water level rise. A heavy rain could leave the whole area almost submerged in water. I am planning some precautionary measures while waiting for more rains.

The ground is not too hard, but very damp and almost muddy today, which is another problem for the diggers.
Spyder the conqueror would always find a solution
Don't worry, God will take care of the rains smiley

spyder880: After the setting out of the site yesterday, we started the foundation excavations today.
Chief Spyder, I'm just looking at the unique soft soil of this part of Enugu.
For this one, the diggers won't need Panadol at the end of the day's work unlike most parts of the town. Even the water in the trench has equally dried up it seems.
A smooth start. Una well done.

spyder880: ....... coming up soon with some minor modifications like swapping the bedroom and toilet positions, we plan to start this building next in a site we had fenced last year.
Chief Spyder, building expensive duplexes alone wont take care of the 17 million national housing deficit. Though in a small way, you've made out time to take care of low cost projects.
More of this every other time is worth doing. Congratulations

mufutau55: Brabus attached the floor plan of the two bedroom bungalow with his first message.. check it.
But I counted 9 doors and one Front door making 10 doors. It will be enough, those Chinese doors cost like 14K or something less.
The Chinese iron door for the front of my BQ cost like N26K.. so the internal will even be cheaper..

Hajji Mufutau
If they cost like 14K, then it might not cover the cost of 9 of them plus the metal doors and the labor cost, am i right? He said It's got an entrance/exit metal doors.
