Ecalos: Hey Mister, the two schools you have been admitted to are good schools but USC (University of Southern California) is far more recognized. I would have told you to go with A&M if it was the one in college station but as far as top 10 petroleum engineering colleges, University of Southern California makes that list and its also located in Los Angeles where you get access to loads and loads things to do and opportunities to network with people after your studies if it works out for you so I say go with USC if you can. Still conduct further research though before making a decision and make sure you are not one that can easily get carried away with "fun activities"...Check out this link http://education-portal.com/articles/List_of_Top_Petroleum_Engineering_Schools_and_Colleges.html
But its an expensive town

emmanuelson20: Good Evening Everyone, i have a friend who got an admission to study in the US & every other documents needed for a visa interview are ready but to his surprise, he couldn't get an appointment interview date for the past few weeks. Although, i advised he should defer his studies till spring, but he said deferring will nullify the Partial Scholarship granted as rightly stated in his I-20 form & e-mailed by the director of international programs. Its obvious his chances of getting a date is very slim, but we are hoping for a miracle. Please house, your assistance is highly needed in the area of getting him a date preferrably 17 Aug-22 Aug. Thanks a lot. Peace.
Has he requested for emergency date?

Be careful what u type here. . . Never consider falsifying documents. . . Schools verify documents u send to them so from the admission level, u wud have been caught. . . If u can not afford it, then chill till u can. . . God did not give u a dream for u to criminally achieve. . . U can't have an expensive dream in a poor environment. . . If u can't afford it, then u shud have the brilliance to get u there. . . If ur money is not talking, ur brain shud be working. . . Not trying to bring down anyone but its the sad truth. . .

bigfrancis21: @Zacky006 Work experience is not a criteria for graduate admissions for most universities in the US. All the schools I've checked out explicitly pointed that out on their websites. The internet is yours, pick out any number of random schools and check this out. What matters are your TOEFL (if required) and GRE score being high enough, high undergraduate CGPA (for masters studies, usually at least 3 out of 4 points on a 4-point scale or 3.75 on a 5-point scale), and strong letters of recommendation (best gotten from your former lecturers and professors) and statement of goals and purpose.
I remember this scenario being for someone with a 3rd class not average applicant. . . And am sure if u researched well u wud see where they say if an applicant doesn't meet up, he can still be admitted if other requirements are good (and some schools put working experience would be considered). . .

Why do u think they ask for ur present and previous job experience while applying?
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by kpolli(m): 10:37pm On Aug 02, 2012
bigfrancis21: Its basically your results from JSS to SSS, with all the subjects you did and your scores in them. This seems quite hard cos most of our secondary schools arent computerized as to save results electronically, its just the same report card format year in year out. Try your best. At least they should be able to find your report booklets and prepare your transcripts from it.
He is not meant to prepare the transcript himself

emmanuelson20: hi guy(s), if you will be applying from Nigeria, your best option is to get another passport, why? Cos the visa consular would likely ask you questions regarding your mission in North Cyprus which could reduce your chances of getting a F-1 Visa as it creates a doubt about your "genuine" intentions about studying in the US. When asked if you travelled before (@ least to North Cyprus), your answer should be "NO" or else ... .... .... ... ...... Hope its clear! If not, let me know. Sure have a great day. Peace.
That's dishonesty and it would backfire. . . Do not follow this advice. . Just apply the proper way, state that your transferring to a school in USA cos of bla bla bla

babani01: Salute to all in the house, I was directed to study these webpages before my interview and tried to do so. Glory be to God as I got the Visa. Below is an outline of the interview as much as I can remember (it was on July 25)

VO: What are you studying in US?
Me: Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Masters.
VO: Why Electrical?
Me: That is what I studied for my first degree and am looking at going deeper in the course, specialing in ... (told him what I want to specialise in and how it will impact on Nigeria,Note that I mentioned Nigeria wella)
VO: What do you do?
Me: I work as a Bleep Engineer and I handle repairs on ... (The fact that one has a good employment makes them look at you with respect, felt that sha, so ensure you speak in a way to make them feel you know and enjoy what you do)
VO: How do you know about YYY(the school)?
Me: A professor from the school came for a seminar at my University while I was still there . . .(Told him how I networked with a Prof at the school and then got more info from the internet, this question gave me more edge as I have a communication relationship with a prof there)
VO: How will you be funding your study?
Me: I have a graduate assistantship (GA) . . . (Told him more about the GA, how it will help my goal in relation to Nigeria and that the little money remaining that the GA didn't cover will be from my account. Of course, having a scholarship should make getting your VISA easy if you speak about it to your advantage)
VO: Do you have a letter for the GA?
Me: Searched for it and gave it to him, he read it very well. Typed some things (Guessed its the name of the professor that recommended me for the GA, during this time na prayer for mind o). I then told him the GA thingy was also stated on the I-20, he said he knew.
VO: Is that the only school you applied for?
Me: No. I also applied for ...(Just mentioned some of the schools, didn't add whether I had admission or not as I didn't want to deviate from the main thingy since its VISA to YYY)
VO: You can pick up your VISA on Monday, tore the green "trophy" for me and also gave me the authorized collection by proxy form (Wow, glory be to God)

Funny enough, didn't check GRE result, the Test of English result I had, account statement, payslip, transcript, certificate and other things I packed along in case of "incacity".
BABA GOD NONI, THANK YOU JESUS
Congrats bro

elektra: Hello house! My visa was granted yesterday at Lagos by VO 2. My interview was short and none of my documents were reviewed.

VO: Good morning can i have you documents?
Me: I handed them over to him
VO: Why are you going to the US?
Me: For undergraduate studies
VO: Undergraduate studies huh
Me: Yes
VO: What school did you apply to?
ME: XYZ UNIVERSITY
VO: You say you are going for Undergraduate studies?
Me: Yes. I have a three year degree from xyz university, i had applied for postgraduate studies but I was advised by the school to transfer my credit to undergraduate and top up to a four year degree before moving on to masters studies.
VO: What course are you going for?
Me: Biomedical science
VO: Tell me about it
Me: The course is designed to give the student a very good foundation in the biology of the body amongst other things, it also has and undergraduate research program that allows me to participate in a research lab of my choice
Vo: Typing quickly
Me: Praying inwardly
Vo: Tore the green ticket, held it and asked "Tell me about you three year program"
Me: I studied biotechnology, it gave me a very good understanding of the application of living things to ethical and social purposes. and so on
Vo: OK, we are going to issue. Pick up you visa on Thursday.

Let me just point out that even if you are on the older side you can go for undergrad studies if you can explain what you have been doing. Also, you do not have to wait for the VO to ask you some specific questions in order to answer, If you feel the need to thoroughly explain please do so. Another important thing, just spake clean and correct English in you usual accent no need to start forming accent for the white VOs they live in Nigeria, they know how Nigerians talk. And most importantly, PRAY! and have FAITH! I was scared cos my i 20 had said my course duration was 4 years but i knew my course duration was much lass since i was only going upgrade my undergrad and move to Masters so i wrote the correct length of studies in my ds 160 form. I prayed to God that the VO would be blind to this irregularity and God answered. Thank you to everyone that has contributed to this thread. Best of luck to everyone that is yet to go for the interview
Congrats babe
