PoliticsFed Govt To South Africa: Stop Cruelty To Nigerians by krixik(op): 7:14am On Mar 05, 2012
A row has broken out between Nigeria and South Africa over last week’s deportation of 125 Nigerian travellers.
The Federal Government at the weekend demanded an explanation from the South African government over the “harsh” treatment meted out to the Nigerians, who were turned back at the Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johanesburg for allegedly carrying fake yellow fever clearance certificates.
The government also vowed to react in a “calculated” manner, depending on the outcome of talks between Nigeria and South Africa today in Pretoria.
The Nigerian passengers, comprising 50 on Arik Air and 75 aboard South African Airways, were deported at the point of entry on Friday.
Following the action, Arik Air suspended its flight operations to South Africa. It later rescinded the decision, pending further discussions.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru yesterday said the Federal Government considered the maltreatment of Nigerian passengers as harsh and a violation of international practice.
The Minister said: “On Friday, I directed our High Commissioner to South Africa, Amb. Yusuf, to formally send a protest note to South African Government about this maltreatment of Nigerian passengers. And that South Africa should stop this harassment.
“First of all, the Federal Government deplores what the South African Immigration officials did to Nigerian passengers by sending them back to Nigeria on the excuse that they were in possession of fake yellow card certificates.
“Number one, the same yellow card certificate is a requirement at the South African Embassy before they can issue you visa. So, the visa officers at the embassy in Nigeria usually crosscheck yellow card certificate submitted by the applicant.
“Having crosschecked and given them visas, why should the Immigration Department at the point of entry say the same certificate that have been crosschecked by their embassy officials is fake.
“And the standard international practice, for countries requiring yellow card, is for them to quarantine passengers without yellow card certificates at the point of entry.
“It is improper to send them back. It is a harsh treatment of Nigerian passengers, it is not good to send them back.
“They should realise that they do not have the monopoly of sending back passengers or ill-treating them at the point of entry.
“Our officials and the South African officials will be meeting on Monday in Pretoria. And thereafter, Nigeria would react in a mature and calculated manner to this obvious maltreatment of Nigerian travellers.”
Ashiru also said Nigeria had been certified by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a Yellow Fever-free nation and, as such, he did not see why the South African Immigration Services turned back the travellers.
“That is why countries in Europe and the United States do not demand Yellow Fever cards from Nigerian travellers; it is only South Africa and a few countries in the Southern Hemisphere that demand Yellow Fever card from Nigerian travellers.”
Nigeria and South Africa in 2001 established a Bi-National Commission to, among other issues, promote trade and investment. The pact is also to ensure easy visa process. Why so much hatred on Nigerians by our brothers and the most annoying part of it is that it is always coming from the same people we helped during their dark days? Our government should stop barking and retaliate immediately.
Politics3 Reasons Why Odumegwu Ojukwu Is A Hero To You by krixik(op): 1:44pm On Feb 29, 2012
Let's put aside jealousy, tribalism and religious sentiment.
[b](1): He was fearless and disciplined. Served both nigerian and Biafran army spotlessly. Took on the federal government backed by the world powers and floored them in Aburi with his intellectual and oratoral power. Example of an excellent leader
(2): Not Corrupt and Charitable. Before, during and after the civil war no one accused him of corruption which none of our politician could boast of today. Born by a a British knight and a multimillionaire father of those days and not millionaires of today, had the best in life, would have avoided the war to go and enjoy his father's wealth and would have been the richest man in africa if he had inherited his father's wealth but rather chose to finance the war for his people with his father's wealth which i myself don't think i can do. Awesome sacrifice indeed.
(3): Originator of due process and not tribalistic. He objected and refused to accept Yakubu Gowon as the head of state because due process was not followed even the second in command to take over is a yoruba man. What a nationalist.

PoliticsEgyptians Decry 'virginity Tests' On Protesters by krixik(op): 3:52pm On May 31, 2011
CAIRO — Activists and bloggers are pressing Egypt's military rulers to investigate growing accusations of abuses against protesters, including claims that soldiers subjected female detainees to so-called "virginity tests." Bloggers said they would hold a day of online protest Wednesday to voice their outrage. Amnesty International raised the accusations of virginity tests in a May report. It said 18 female protesters held in military detention after a March 9 rally in Cairo reported that they were threatened with prostitution charges and forced to undergo virginity tests. The women also said they were tortured, beaten, and given electric shocks. A senior general, who asked not to be identified, told CNN that the virginity tests had been carried out. "The girls who were detained were not like your daughter or mine," the general said, according to the broadcaster. "These were girls who had camped out in tents with male protesters in Tahrir Square, and we found in the tents Molotov cocktails and (drugs)." "We didn't want them to say we had sexually assaulted or raped them, so we wanted to prove that they weren't virgins in the first place," the general added. "None of them were."
Story: Egyptian bloggers brave police intimidation
The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which took control of the country from ousted President Hosni Mubarak in February, has come under heavy criticism from the youth protest movement, which is upset at the pace of reforms that they hope will lead Egypt to democracy. Since Mubarak's fall on Feb. 11, the military has led crackdowns on peaceful protests, and critics accuse it of failing to restore security in the streets or launch serious national dialogue on a clear path forward for Egypt. The council says it will return the country to civilian rule after elections later this year, but some Egyptians fear the revolution that began on Jan. 25 has replaced the autocratic Mubarak with a military dictatorship. They point to what they say are attempts by the council to make any criticism of the military an untouchable taboo. On Tuesday, the military prosecutor questioned a prominent blogger, Hossam al-Hamalawy, after he criticized the ruling military council in a TV talk show.
PoliticsFour-year Term Short, Says Jonathan by krixik(op): 8:27am On May 27, 2011
Speaking at the “2011 Presidential Inauguration Lecture” with the theme, “A Transformation Agenda for Accelerating National Development,” Jonathan in his remarks noted that a four-year tenure was too short for a President and governors to make significant impact just as he contended that for Nigeria to transform rapidly within the next four years, there was the need for a well developed national planning. Besides, he stated that there was need to stabilize the polity and reduce the frequent reshuffling of the cabinet.

Reacting to the guest lecturer, Prof. Ladipo Adamolekun’s posers on leadership, Jonathan remarked: “I will not talk about the tenure of the Government, the constitution has said four years, though some believe that four years is too short to make any change, which I also believe. I believe because if you are a new person and you are elected as a governor today, it will take one to one and half years for you to really stabilize. And you also know that some members of your cabinet are not good and that is why in most cases, after one year or two Mr. president reshuffles the cabinet and by the time you want to go for another two and half years, it is another election and you are all busy about winning election. That is a constitutional problem.
http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=49402:four-year-term-short-says-jonathan-&catid=1:national&Itemid=559

Why can't African leaders stick to their words? Before elections president Jonathan told the world that he is going for a four year single term but now that he has won the election he is singing a new song. He has realised suddenly that four years wouldn't be enough for him. I am not against his second term bid but the fact that he has told the whole world and probably some people voted for him cos of that he should stick to his words. It's not a hard and difficult task, somebody had done it before in Africa in the person of dr nelson Mandela and today he is an icon and a hero not only to south africa but the whole world. He is celebrated across the globe as a symbol of truthfulness, uprightness and humility. So president Jona you better choose the path of truthfulness and be celebrated rather than choose the path of lies and be humiliated.

I sympathise with the wife shaa but he that killeth by sword shall die by sword. Who knows how many unarmed civilian he has killed. They think say na APO massacre which has gone like that cos people involved were civilians or the case of youth corpers who took refuge in a police station hoping to be protected only for them to be murdered by religiuos bigots who were not armed with guns. Shameless Nigerian Police Force. This is a case of AK-47 versus AK-47. Face to face and man to man. If the masses will always give them this kind of jungle justice they wouldn't dare to kill a civilian again, just like this one has taught them a lesson that next time they see a soldier they dare not point a gun at him not talk of pulling the trigger.

I once worked with an American who was always picking used recharge cards for reimbursemnet cos every kobo he spent with evidence was being reimbursed but he wouldn't try it in his own country for fear of being caught and punished. She must have learned to be careless from her Mum if she could not dictate the pregnancy of her daughter from the very first month to the seventh month. I am a man but i can tell or at least suspect any sign of pregnancy once i'm close to a girl for sometime and the body starts to change. Signs of pregnancy are obvious and unavoidable and cannot be hidden or subdued. So mothers in house should learn a lesson from this bitter experience. It's like a folktale which she is telling the whole world now cos she has made it in life and her fame has covered up the shame of such incidence. Not all will be lucky like her. Some will surely get drowned when caught in that kind of muddy water.
Christianity EtcHarold Camping Now Says Judgment Day Coming In October by krixik(op): 7:59am On May 24, 2011
California preacher Harold Camping said Monday his prophecy that the world would end was off by five months because Judgment Day actually will come on Oct. 21. Camping, who predicted that 200 million Christians would be taken to heaven Saturday before the Earth was destroyed, said he felt so terrible when his doomsday prediction did not come true that he left home and took refuge in a motel with his wife. His independent ministry, Family Radio International, spent millions — some of it from donations made by followers — on more than 5,000 billboards and 20 RVs plastered with the Judgment Day message. But Camping said that he's now realized the apocalypse will come five months after May 21, the original date he predicted. He had earlier said Oct. 21 was when the globe would be consumed by a fireball. Saturday was "an invisible judgment day" in which a spiritual judgment took place, he said. But the timing and the structure is the same as it has always been, he said. "We've always said May 21 was the day, but we didn't understand altogether the spiritual meaning," he said. "May 21 is the day that Christ came and put the world under judgment." It's not the first time the independent Christian radio host has been forced to explain when his prediction didn't come to pass. He also predicted the Apocalypse would come in 1994, but said it didn't happen then because of a mathematical error. What do you think about this man? Is he Ok?

PoliticsSix Militants Sent Back To Nigeria For Misconduct In USA by krixik(op): 1:49pm On May 23, 2011
Quoting Mr. Kingsley Kuku, the Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta
Kuku said that the Federal Government had recalled six out of the 38 ex-militants earlier sent to Florida, US, to pursue studies in Marine courses.

He explained the six ex-agitators, who were sent to the US about eight weeks ago were withdrawn from their training institution and recalled home over allegations of misconduct.

He said security agents had seized their travelling passports. The passports, he added, had been sent to the US embassy with request that their visas be cancelled.

My question is why send these hoodlums abroad to tarnish our image when millions of graduates are out there looking for jobs or will all graduates turn to militants before their plight will be looked into?
FamilyPolice Arrests Man, Herbalist For Mutilating Five Year-old by krixik(op): 7:23am On May 23, 2011
The arrest of a man who sexually assaulted a five-year-old girl before mutilating her vagina for rituals has put Adamawa state on the spot.
Doctors say the little girl, survivor of the gruesome attack (name withheld), will require reconstruction of her vagina because of the severity of the mutilation by the suspect, identified as Kunini Jacob.
The commissioner of police in Adamawa State, Adenrele Shinaba who led the parade of Mr Jacob and an herbalist behind the ritual plot, said there will no longer be a resting place for criminals in the state.
Mr Jacob (23), was arrested along with his mother who was allegedly shielding him from security agents. Incidentally, the suspect was only recently released from jail after serving a three-year jail sentence for a related offence.
Mr Jacob told journalists his action was “the work of the devil” and that he was acting on the instruction of an herbalist who told him to procure the intestine of a virgin along with her private part for ritual to give him instant wealth.
Mr Shinaba said Zidon Digga, at Dong Village in Bidoma Development Area of Adamawa state, reported to the police two weeks ago that his five-year-old daughter was missing. He said the little girl was later found in a pool of her blood and rushed to the state Specialist Hospital for treatment.
Azubike Chuks, leader of the doctors that carried out two sets of emergency surgeries on the child, said when she was brought in, her intestine was outside and that the first operation was to return the intestine.
The report showed that the thin layer separating her vagina and rectum was mutilated by the attacker. The doctor said a third operation is needed to join the two parts together.
Police investigation, however, led to the arrest of the suspect, as well as the herbalist, Mijinyawa Bala of Dong village. But Mr Bala distanced himself from the crime, saying he did not instigate the main suspect to commit the crime.
The police boss said the suspects will be charged to court for the offence of criminal conspiracy, house trespass, kidnapping, rape and attempt to commit culpable homicide.
The young victim is now at the Yola specialist centre awaiting a third surgery. But Mr Azuibike said this will cost several hundred of thousands, which neither the hospital or the child’s family could afford.
“We appealed to public-spirited persons to help and so far only N20,000 has come in,” he told NEXT
Culture of silence
Recently, the state education board dismissed two teachers found guilty of committing paedophilic acts on pupils under their care. One was a head teacher who impregnated one of a female pupil in one of the sub-urban primary schools in Jimeta, while the other involved a teacher in one of the special schools in Jada.
Bakari Adamawa, state chairman of the state universal basic education board blamed what he called “the culture of silence” for the prevalence of sexual abuse of minors in the state.
“We have called the education secretaries and warned them that they should live up to their duties,” he said. “They should make sure head teachers are aware of what is happening in their schools.
“We are coming out with new codes of conduct for teachers and we are also going to carry put special training for teachers on how to handle children. There was another investigation which we couldn’t conclude because the parent didn’t want to talk about it. You know some parents really don’t want to talk about it. It is a really sad experience and they don’t want to recall it.”

Christianity EtcThe World Is Ending On 21st May 2011based On Harold Camping's Calculation. by krixik(op): 3:48pm On May 20, 2011
According to Genesis, when the flood occurred in the year 4990, God told Noah that in seven days he would destroy the earth," Manny explained. "And he destroyed it in seven days.
"But Peter said: 'I know that one day for me is like a thousand years.' So 4990 plus 7001 years (the equivalent of seven days) equals 2011," he explained.
Not only that, May 21 coincides with the 17th day of the second month of the calendar used during the Biblical flood, according to Camping.
IS THIS MATHEMATICS, MATHEMAJICS OR CAMPINGMAJICS? WHICH ONE PLS COS I'M CONFUSED.

Though some may critisize Ribadu of being selective during his era but the fear of Ribadu's name and EFCC was sending a shocking wave down the spinal chord of all the Politicians then. Now they steal with impunity in broadday light. I am suggesting that he should go back. What do you think?
