The Edo State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday said its former secretary, Lawrence Okah was removed because a vote of no confidence was passed on him. The State Executive Committee on Tuesday revealed this after a vote of confidence was passed on the leadership of Barr Anslem Ojezua. A statement signed and forwarded to DAILY POST said the party chairmen across the 18 local government areas of the state also passed a vote of no confidence on the APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. Briefing newsmen after the meeting of the party’s State Executive Committee, the Deputy State Chairman of the APC, Engr. Kenneth Asekomhe said, “After the meeting of the State Executive Committee, in pursuant of Article 17, Section 5 of APC constitution of 2014, as amended, we the undersigned members passed a vote of no confidence on the State Secretary of the party, Mr Lawrence Okah. He is hereby removed from office. “The committee also passed a vote of confidence on the State Chairman of APC, Mr Anselm Ojezua.” ”The APC chairmen in the 18 LGAs of the state also reaffirmed their support for the second term bid of Governor Godwin Obaseki on account of his developmental strides. ”The chairmen passed a vote of no confidence on the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.” The APC Chairman in Esan Central LGA and Secretary, Edo State APC Chairmen Forum, Hon. Mike Anakaso, said the chairmen passed a vote of no confidence on Oshiomhole for his role in trying to disintegrate the party in Edo State. He warned that “Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is the one behind the crisis in Edo APC and a vote of no confidence was passed on him. ”We don’t want what happened in Zamfara or other parts of the country to happen in Edo State.”he added. Meanwhile, the Auditor of the Edo State Chapter of the APC, Comrade Timothy Osadolor and the chapter’s Financial Secretary, Princess Golda Oribhabor-Onwuka have distanced themselves from a document purporting to remove the state chairman, Anselm Ojezua from office. Speaking at the party’s State Secretariat, the duo explained that they were taken in a commando-style to the residence of the suspended Secretary of the party, Mr. Lawrence Okah and forced to sign the document. Giving details of the incident, the Auditor, Comrade Osadolor explained that they were invited by a colleague for a meeting, before they were whisked to Okah’s residence. He said he was threatened and asked to sign the document if he wanted to leave the residence alive, noting that he had to append a fake signature against his name to regain freedom. According to him, “What happened, to the best of my knowledge, is an act of desperation taken too far. We were taken in a commando-style to the house of the State Secretary, where I was forced to sign the documents purportedly removing Anslem Ojezua. There were just eight or nine signatures on the document. My name was badly spelt. I didn’t draw their attention to it but had to play along by signing the document with a fake signature. The Financial Secretary, Princess Golda Oribhabor-Onwuka emphasised that she signed the document under duress. https://dailypost.ng/2019/11/12/more-crisis-hit-apc-as-party-removes-secretary-passes-vote-of-no-confidence-on-oshiomhole/

Fifteen more shops belonging to Nigerians were shutdown yesterday by members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) at Opera Square in Accra, bringing the number of shops to about 70. The latest showdown is part of GUTA’s plan to cripple Nigerian businesses in the nation’s capital. Nigerian businesses at the Tip Toe Lane at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle are believed to be the next in line, as it was gathered that GUTA plans to lock up the Nigerian shops in the area today. The national president of the Nigerian Union of Traders Association in Ghana (NUTAG), Chukwuemeka Nnaji, has advised his members to close their shops today to avoid destruction of their goods and businesses. Meanwhile, the timely intervention of police officers and the Nigerian Mission in Ghana averted a major clash between members of GUTA and NUTAG yesterday. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/ghanaian-traders-shut-down-more-nigerians-shops.html

A 40-year-old Las Vegas hotel cleaner won a child support battle against a 28-year-old millionaire who she never slept with. Jane was 36 when she stole a used condom from a then 24-year-old tech millionaire’s hotel garbage can. She inserted the semen inside her vagina and became pregnant with a baby boy who is now 4-years-old. During the child support hearing, Jane confessed that she never slept with the young millionaire and that she impregnated herself with his sperm while she was cleaning his room. “He left his bank statement on the nightstand in his hotel room and I saw it when I was cleaning, at the time I wanted a baby so bad and I thought it would be better if I had a baby with a rich man” The paternity test where conducted and the young millionaire is the father. The court ordered him to pay the mother of the child $2 million for the 3 years of his son’s life he missed. His lawyers said their client is planning to pursue other legal actions against the mother for stealing his bodily fluids and violating his privacy. Meanwhile, Jane had quit the hotel cleaning job and started a few businesses with her newfound fortune, she still has full custody of her child whom she named after his father. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/11/woman-who-impregnated-self-with-stolen-semen-from-billionaire-wins-child-support-battle/ Lalasticlala |
Anti-government protests Morales has defended his election win but had said he would adhere to the findings of the OAS audit. Three people died and hundreds were wounded in often-violent demonstrations since Morales claimed a fourth consecutive term. The announcements came a day after police officers were seen joining anti-government protests and the military said it would not "confront the people" over the issue. In a Twitter post in the early hours of Saturday, Morales accused the opposition of organising a coup. At a news conference later at the base, the president appealed to Bolivia's political factions to hold talks. He said the four parties that received the most votes in the nine-candidate election should sit down with "an open agenda to pacify Bolivia". Morales said he would also invite to the talks international organisations, including the Vatican, the United Nations and the OAS. Mesa rejected the suggestion to hold talks. "I have nothing to negotiate with Evo Morales, who has lost all grip on reality," he said. Meanwhile, demonstrators on Saturday burst into the offices of the media outlets Bolivia TV and Radio Patria Nueva and forced employees to leave, accusing them of serving the interests of Morales, AFP news agency quoted Ivan Maldonado, the director of Radio Patria Nueva, as saying. Morales denounced the seizure. "They say they defend democracy, but they behave as if they were in a dictatorship," he wrote on Twitter. A radio station run by a farmers' union was also seized by protesters, Morales said. The president also accused members of the opposition of setting fire to the home of his sister in the southern city of Oruro as part of what he called an effort to overthrow him. 'Complicated moment' Jorge Dulon, a political analyst at the Catholic University of Bolivia in La Paz, told The Associated Press that Morales faces "the most complicated moment" in his 14 years in power and warned that the situation could deteriorate. Separately, a number of left-leaning leaders in the region backed Morales, including those of Venezuela, Cuba, Mexico and Argentina's President-elect Alberto Fernandez. "We denounce before the world the attempted coup d'etat in progress against the brother President Evo Morales," Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro wrote on Twitter. The European Union issued a statement on Saturday calling for demonstrators to remain peaceful, saying a solution "can be achieved through peaceful negotiations". Michael Kozak, the US assistant secretary for Western Hemisphere affairs, tweeted: "Bolivian citizens deserve credible and transparent elections that they can trust to represent their will. We urge all actors to avoid violence and ensure that the forces of public order continue to exercise restraint." |
The commander of Bolivia's armed forces called on embattled President Evo Morales to resign amid a growing furore over his disputed re-election. Morales should step aside to help ensure stability in the country, armed forces commander Williams Kaliman told reporters on Sunday, heaping pressure on the leftist leader as he deals with a widening backlash over a disputed election. "After analysing the internal conflict situation, we ask the president of the state to renounce his presidential mandate, allowing for peace to be restored and the maintenance of stability for the good of Bolivia," said Kaliman. Speaking on national television, General Kaliman also appealed to Bolivians to desist from violence. He stepped in after Morales agreed earlier in the day to hold a new election. Earlier the military said it ordered air-and-land operations to "neutralise" armed groups that act outside the law, said a statement released on Sunday. Morales said he will call new elections after the Organization of American States (OAS) released a report saying a disputed vote last month that sparked deadly protests should be annulled because of irregularities. In a news conference, the president also said he would replace the members of the electoral board that came under fire after being mired in widespread allegations of electoral fraud in the October 20 vote. "In the following hours, in agreement with all political forces, [we] will establish [the steps] for this [to take place]," he said. When questioned about whether he would be a candidate in the new election, Morales told a local radio station "the candidacies must be secondary, what comes first is to pacify Bolivia", adding he has a constitutional duty to finish his term. Rival Carlos Mesa said Morales and Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera should not preside over the electoral process or be candidates. "If you have an iota of patriotism, you should step aside," Mesa told Morales in a press conference. Morales, 60, a native Aymara from Bolivia's highlands, became the country' first indigenous president in 2006 and easily won two more elections amid more than a decade of a commodities-fed economic boom in South America's poorest country. He paved roads, sent Bolivia's first satellite into space, and curbed inflation. But he has faced growing dissatisfaction because he ran for a fourth term after refusing to abide by the results of a referendum that upheld term limits for the president. Bolivia's constitutional court then ruled term limits violated his rights. Morales's comments came shortly after the OAS said in a preliminary report issued on Sunday it could not verify the result after finding "clear manipulations" during an audit of the vote. "The manipulations to the computer system are of such magnitude that they must be deeply investigated by the Bolivian state to get to the bottom of and assign responsibility in this serious case," the organisation said. The OAS added it was not statistically likely that Morales had secured the 10 percentage-point margin of victory needed to win outright and recommended Bolivia use new electoral authorities for any new vote. "The first round of the elections held on October 20 must be annulled and the electoral process must begin again, with the first round taking place as soon as there are new conditions that give new guarantees for it to take place, including a newly composed electoral body," the OAS said in a press release. Morales was declared the winner of the October election with a lead of 10 percentage points over his main rival, Mesa, giving him an outright win. But a near 24-hour halt in the count sparked accusations of fraud and led to protests, strikes and roadblocks. Luis Fernando Camacho, a civic leader from the eastern city of Santa Cruz who has become a symbol of the opposition, said the OAS report clearly demonstrated election fraud and reiterated his call for Morales to resign. He said he plans to carry a pre-written resignation letter for Morales to sign to the government palace. "Today a battle was won but we will reconfigure the constitutional order and democracy, and only when we can be sure that democracy is solid will we go home," Camacho said to a crowd of cheering supporters in La Paz. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.aljazeera.com/amp/news/2019/11/bolivian-military-asks-morales-resign-ensure-stability-191110200759194.html Lalasticlala Mynd44 |

The Nigerian Union of Journalists, FCT Council, has expressed its outrage over the physical assault suffered by Mr. Abayomi Adeshida, a photojournalist with the Vanguard Newspapers, at the Presidential Villa, Thursday. Adeshida, who was covering an event at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, was brutal assaulted by security aides of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo while he watched. The NUJ FCT in a statement on Thursday, described the assault as one of the sad developments that signposts how dangerous it was to be a journalist in Nigeria especially in the past four years. “The brutal physical assault by security details of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo against one of our members in the legitimate pursuit of his duties as a journalist further signposts how dangerous it is to be a journalist in Nigeria, especially in the last four years,” a statement signed by chairman of the council, Emmanuel Ogbeche, read. “On a day in which Nigeria joined the rest of the world to mark the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists for security operatives to unashamedly batter a journalist in the presence of the vice president speaks to how troubling and dark Nigeria has descended into. “We are still at a loss as to why operatives of the DSS, not like they are some street urchins, had to behave in such a despicable manner should send shivers down the spine of every reasonable Nigerian. We are however comforted by the fact that journalists in Nigeria have seen more terrible days and survived and would definitely outlast every vestige of jackboot and intimidation by state and non-state actors,” the statement further read. Ogbeche called on Vice President to initiate an immediate probe into the unfortunate situation, while in the interim, Mr. Adeshida’s damaged camera is replaced as well as his full medical bills undertaken by the federal government. "While we demand an immediate probe into the ugly incident with a view for disciplinary measures against all those involved in this clear abuse on a journalist and journalism, we call on Vice President Osinbajo to order for the replacement of Mr. Adeshida’s damaged camera as well as settle his medical expenses. “However, the council will explore other avenues including legal remedy against these individuals that have further endangered press freedom and safety of journalists in Nigeria.” The NUJ chairman urged journalists in the country not to be deterred in the performance of their duties while upholding the ethics of the profession. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/11/adeshida-nuj-fct-outraged-demands-sanctions/

A photojournalist with the Vanguard Newspapers, attached to the Aso Rock Villa, Mr Abayomi Adeshida, was on Thursday morning beaten up by security details of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo. The incident took place at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja during the opening session of the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit organised by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission NiDCOM, chaired by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa. Narrating his experience to journalists, Adeshida said he was taking photographs of the Vice-President taking a tour of the exhibition stands at the event, when five personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) suddenly pounced on him as Osinbajo was being presented a copy of the magazine as a souvenir at a particular stand. Adeshida said he was not told his supposed infraction as he was not in any way obstructing the event or doing anything out of the ordinary before the security details started hitting him, dragged him over the floor and damaged his professional camera, right in the presence of the Vice-President. “I was shocked when these DSS started beating me for no apparent reason. They tore off my Presidential Villa accreditation tag on the shirt and dragged me on the floor while hitting me and kicking me. “I believe they would have done much worse if not for the intervention of the Vice-President’s Aide-de-Camp (ADC), who I noticed was making hand movements for them to leave me alone. “I am feeling pains all over my body and a particular severe pain on my right leg on which I don’t even know what they hit me with”, the Adeshida before he headed for the hospital for treatment. No other aides of the Vice-President made efforts to stop the humiliation of the journalist in the presence of Osibanjo, who may have been embarrassed by the situation. The incident happened a day after 35 aides of the Vice-President were reportedly sacked on the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari, who is away on a private visit to the United Kingdom. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/11/osinbajos-security-aides-beat-up-vanguard-photojournalist/

Detained activist and convener of the RevolutionNow protest, Omoyele Sowore and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare (aka Mandate), who are facing a treasonable felony charge, on Wednesday, failed to regain their freedom after they perfected all their bail conditions. However, a member of their legal team gold Vanguard that the Department of State Service, DSS, promised to release them from custody on Thursday. The lawyer who craved anonymity because he did not seek the permission of his principal to speak to the press on the matter, disclosed that the DSS was served with a duly signed order of the Federal High Court in Abuja directing that the defendants should be released from detention. The court order, which was signed by trial Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, indicated that both Sowore and Bakare have fulfilled all their bail terms. Counsel to the defendants and human rights lawyer, Mr Fem Falana, SAN, had earlier on Wednesday, told the court that his clients had met their bail conditions. Falana, SAN, had expressed optimism that the duo would be freed shortly after the court proceeding. Sowore who looked emancipated and his co-defendant were ecstatic as they exited the courtroom. They remained within the court premises, surrounded by operatives of the DSS till around 5 pm when the court signed their release order. Meanwhile, trial Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu has fixed December 5 and 6 to commence a trial of the defendants on the seven-count charge against them. The court initially gave the prosecution the nod to call its witnesses after it refused Falana’s request for the case to be adjourned. Falana had alleged that he was unable to have access to his clients at the detention facility of the DSS. He said his inability to interact with his clients hampered his opportunity to effectively package their defence. Justice Ojukwu subsequently deferred the trial till next month to enable the prosecution to serve a statement of its witnesses, video exhibits and all other documents it would rely on to prove the case, on the defendants. Earlier in the proceeding, Falana raised the alarm over plot to shield the witnesses that are proposed to testify against the defendants. Sowore who was the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, in the last general election and publisher of an online news outlet, Sahara Reporters, was in the charge marked FHC/ ABJ/CR/235/2019, accused of conspiracy, money laundering, cyber-stalking and insulting President Muhammadu Buhari. The court had in a ruling on October 21, varied some of the conditions it gave for the release of the defendants on bail. Justice Ojukwu waived the initial requirement for Sowore to deposit N50million as bond before the court, even as she also reduced Bakare’s bail sum from N50m to N30m. The court, however, retained other conditions that gave Sowore bail to the tune of N100million with two sureties in like sum. The court had maintained that all the sureties must be resident within the Federal Capital Territory and must own landed properties in Abuja that are worth the total bail sum. It further directed the sureties to submit the original title deeds of the properties, as well as, their three years tax clearance certificate for verification. Aside from seizing Sowore’s international passport, the court barred the defendants from participating in any form of protest, pending the determination of the charge. It will be recalled that Sowore was arrested on August 2, after he called for a nationwide protest against perceived maladministration by the President Buhari-led government. Despite his arrest, the protest held in various parts of the country on August 5, with security operatives clamping down on some of the participants. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/11/breaking-dss-defers-sowore-bakares-release-till-thursday/ |
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, from the 18 Local Government Areas of Edo State, have unanimously adopted Governor Godwin Obaseki, as the party’s flagbearer for the 2020 gubernatorial election in the State. The leaders adopted the governor during an enlarged meeting with the governor at Government House in Benin City, the Edo State capital. A chieftain of the APC from Edo South Senatorial District, Rev. Michael Agharevba, moved the motion for the endorsement and adoption of the governor for a second term, commending Governor Obaseki on his achievements as governor in the past three years. Stating that the governor has transformed all sectors of the state within a short time, he said, “We are solidly behind the governor and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu for a second term. This is the first time somebody is speaking to our hearts and it is evident in the physical structures he is building across the state.” Also speaking, former Chief Whip in the Edo State House of Assembly and a leader of the APC in Edo North, Hon Shaibu Abdullahi, seconded the motion for the adoption of Governor Obaseki as the APC flagbearer in the 2020 governorship election. On her part, a former council chairman and chieftain of the APC in Edo Central, Mrs. Stella Okoro, said the women of the state have unanimously agreed to adopt the governor and support his bid for a second term. She said: “When a woman carries you on her back, you are protected. We are happy for all the governor is doing. We are carrying him on our back as a sign of our support for his administration.” Earlier, Edo State Chairman of the APC, Barr Anselm Ojezua, echoed the party leaders’ support for Governor Obaseki’s second term bid. He said the APC in Edo State has been active and remains strong as ever before. “We will take those steps that will protect the integrity of the APC. Once we are done sanitising our party system, we will be better and stronger,” he said. He explained that APC prohibits the formation of parallel movements within the party structure, stressing that the Edo Peoples Movement (EPM) cannot be an organ of the party. Speaking, APC Chieftain, Charles Idahosa, urged the party leaders to intensify work at the ward level to defeat the common enemy against the Governor Obaseki-led government. He said: “We have a problem and we need to go back to our respective wards to put things in order. There is a big fight, and it is a win for us. We know our enemy and we must defeat him.” The governor presented the scorecard of his administration in the past three years to the party leaders, hailing them for their sacrifice and faith in his administration, with a promise to do more in delivering the dividends of democracy to Edo people. He said his administration has engendered good governance through policies and programmes targeted at eradicating poverty and creating jobs in the last three years, assuring to consolidate on his achievements in the next one year. He said: “When we came onboard three years ago, 15 out of 18 LGAs were not able to pay salaries and we met huge pension arrears burden, but with your support, we have made a lot of progress. “For revenue generation, the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in Oredo LGA rose from N1.5 million monthly in December 2016 to N62 million in October, 2019. We are emphasising people-oriented projects because the APC’s principle is focused on people’s development.” He said his administration has created about 107,000 direct and indirect jobs in the last three years, noting, “We have been getting a lot of support from Diaspora in this regard.” He urged citizens to expect more developments in the next year especially in the area of agriculture, infrastructure, job creation and social welfare. The governor reiterated that members of the APC working against the interest of the party would be driven out, adding, “Nobody must feel that they are bigger than the party.” https://www.google.com/amp/s/dailypost.ng/2019/11/06/edo-2020-apc-leaders-adopt-gov-obaseki-as-partys-flagbearer/amp/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 |
The acting Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, Azuka Azinge, has allegedly colluded with a former minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah, to short-change the commission over N559 million. Investigations by the DAILY NIGERIAN revealed that in 2018, Messrs Azinge and Enelamah had connived to illegally grant waivers to two private companies, one of which was Polaris Bank Limited, when it sought to increase its share capital base from one million to 25 billion. DAILY NIGERIAN reports that waivers are economic policies done by government to encourage or promote the production of a particular commodity that has direct bearing on the country’s economy. However, experts say waivers could be granted for corrupt or political reasons. Financial analysts said the filing charges the CAC was supposed to collect from the bank amounts to N186million but was waived by the agency. Copies of leaked email correspondence between the acting Registrar-General and Mr Enelamah, sighted by this reporter, revealed that the duo had met privately on the matter and perfected plans on how to share the proceeds of the alleged illegality. Mrs Azinge’s initiating email to the minister, dated September 23, 2018, read: Good Evening Honourable Minister. Hope this message finds you well. “Further to our discussion yesterday on granting waiver for increase in share capital to Polaris Bank, may I suggest that you kindly send your approval by email to enable staff handling the transaction sight the authorization for the waiver. “This will ensure smooth handling of the increase without audit query and delay. I will ensure speedy delivery accordingly,” the letter ends. The following day, on September 24, 2019, the minister wrote back to the Mrs Azinge, granting his approval for the said waiver. In the email response, the minister said: “Please accept this as my approval of the waiver as requested. Thank you, Best regards, Okey Enelamah.” DAILY NIGERIAN reports that a few days after granting the waiver, many staff members at the headquarters of the commission raised concerns over the development, especially as the commission was battling with dwindling revenue. One of the staff members who pleaded anonymity said: “We have problems like the non-remittance of pension funds for a long time now. No staff training and other welfare packages.” Another document sighted by DAILY NIGERIAN revealed that another waiver was granted to Enyimba Economic City Development Company Limited, a Public-Private-Partnership between Abia State Government and Crown Realities Limited, a private developer. In October, 2018, the company wrote to the CAC, expressing its intention to increase its share capital from 100million to 50billion and the commission demanded the sum of N373.24million as filing fees. Faced with this reality, the company sought the intervention of Mr Enelamah, who also hails from Abia State. In convincing their kinsman, the company argued that the PPP project, if completed, would provide over 625,000 direct jobs for Nigerian youths. The minister, thereafter, conveyed his approval for the granting of waiver for the company. However, a source at the Office of the Secretary of the Government of the Federation, OSGF, said waivers of that nature needed presidential approval. He said: “Waivers running into hundreds of millions need presidential approval. The minister actually acted in error, except if he did what he did for financial gains.” However, a director at the industry, trade and investment ministry who did not want his name on print told DAILY NIGERIAN that in the case of Enyimba Economic City, President Muhammadu Buhari was briefed about the project and he welcomed the initiative. “Also, the Federal Government, through the Nigeria Special Economic Zone Company, which promotes Made In Nigeria for Export, MINE, was contacted and a partnership deal was signed. “The Federal Government and Abia State Government signed Definitive Agreements for the project between the Enyimba City Economic Zone Limited. “The signing took place sometime in the second week of December, 2018 at the Presidential Villa and the Federal Government was represented by Nigeria Special Economic Zone Company,” the source said. The source, however, disclosed that the President was bypassed in granting the waiver, saying: “the issue of waiver was not discussed with the President at all. “It was the minister that used his prerogative to approve the waiver. However, by law, the President must be notified and his consent sought before such decision was to be made.” “Ideally, special waivers are anchored through the presidency, directing related ministries to implement the same. “In this case, I never heard of any directive for waivers to private companies trying to expand their businesses. “For example, why would the Nigerian government grant waiver to a bank when if any Nigerian approaches such bank for a loan must be charged interest? I mean, this is a simple question that can expose this illegality.” Reactions While the former minister is yet to return DAILY NIGERIAN email inquiry requesting his response, Mrs Azinge, through her spokesman, Moses Adaguusu, shifted the blame to the former minister. She said: “The position is that the two companies duly applied and were duly granted waivers on filing fees by the Hon. Minister who by law had the power to do that.” Both Polaris Bank Limited and Enyimba Economic City Development Company Limited did not reply to our reporter’s inquiry. https://dailynigerian.com/exclusive-how-cac-boss-connived-with-buharis-minister-to-grant-over-n559m-illegal-waivers-to-polaris-bank-enyimba-dev-company/

Gov Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has come under heavy criticism for saying his tribe, Remo, will continue to lead Ogun State and Nigeria. Abiodun had on Saturday said his Remo division had been ruling and would continue to rule Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole in giant strides. The Governor said this while speaking at the 2019 35th Sagamu Day Festival put together under the leadership of the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi. The Governor, who was proud to be an indigene of Remo, appreciated God for giving the tribe, another opportunity to rule Ogun State once again. DAILY POST recalls that Otunba Gbenga Daniel, an indigene of Remo has ruled the state from 2003 to 2011. The Yewa-Awori people from Ogun West have not relented in their agitations to, at least, rule Ogun State for once since the state was created 40 years ago. Remo, comprising Ikenne, Sagamu and Remo North local government areas in Ogun East is also the tribe of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. Abiodun said: “God has given us once again in Remoland, another opportunity to be governor of this state. It’s a rare privilege. We in Remo have continued to lead Ogun State in giant strides. We’ll continue to lead this state, and not just this state, but we’ll continue to lead in various aspects of endeavours of this country.” “We have the likes of Chief, Obafemi Awolowo; we have the likes of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, we have the likes of Prof Ogunlesi and the list is endless.” Speaking further, Gov Abiodun, priding himself as a Remo indigene, said, “This administration decided that we will be characterised as one that has the right fit of people in the right places; and each time we do a search and we find five people to work for us, out of those five people, three of them will be from Remo land. Indeed, Remo land is blessed with a lot of stars all over the world. “I have to remind myself and my people that, I’m not just the governor of Remoland alone, I’m the governor of Ogun. Anytime we want people to work for us, out of five, three are from Remo This underscores the fact that only the best is good for us,” Abiodun said. But Abiodun’s comment has sparked up reactions from indigenes and politicians across other parts of Ogun State as they accused him of tribalistic tendencies. Meanwhile, the Allied People’s Movement (APM) in Ogun State has called out Abiodun, reminding him that “the Aworis, the Yewas, the Egbas and even the Ijebus also have qualified sons and daughters.” A statement made available to DAILY POST on Monday by the Acting Publicity Secretary of the APM in the state, Olumide Balogun, said “it is now clear to the good people of Ogun State that Gov. Dapo Abiodun’s singular ambition as governor is to ‘lift’ Remo land above the rest of Ogun State with the view to undoing the immediate past Egba born governor.” Balogun challenged Abiodun to name his contributions to the development of Remo land, being a billionaire before he became the governor of Ogun State. “What has Gov. Dapo Abiodun done for Remo land with his personal resources before he became ‘governor’ considering the “enormous wealth” he claims to have. How many roads, schools and healthcare centres did he rehabilitate out of his pocket? A man who ‘owns’ a private jet, multi-billion naira properties and drives vehicles worth hundreds of millions of naira?” The statement reads: “Each time Gov. Dapo Abiodun opens his mouth, he shows lack of depth and the minimum leadership equality to lead a multi-ethnic state like ours. His daily insult of our collective intelligence and sensitivity is becoming worrisome. “Although, we are not surprised because we know him, we are somewhat crossed at his reckless, insensitive and myopic view of Ogun State. It is naturally tempting for people with small minds to gloat, but someone occupying such an exalted position of governor should be able to, at least, pretend to be noble. “We hereby call on Gov. Dapo Abiodun to find a stool in his ‘kingdom’ to stand on, look a bit further and he will see that the Aworis’, the Yewas’, the Egbas’ and even Ijebus’ have qualified sons and daughters. “To our people, we say, “e ku ifara da”. It is now clear to the good people of Ogun State that Gov. Dapo Abiodun’s singular ambition as governor is to ‘lift’ Remo land above the rest of Ogun State with the view to undo the immediate past Egba born governor. “Not that we condemn such aspiration because many of our committed party faithful are from Remo land. What we disagree with is that he is determined to do it with state resources at the expense of other region. Pushing forward this sectional agenda that creates nothing but waste and long term underdevelopment of the state. “The question that begs to be answered is, what did Gov. Dapo Abiodun do for Remo land with his personal resources before he became ‘governor’ considering the “enormous wealth” he claims to have. How many roads, schools and healthcare centres did he rehabilitate out of his pocket? A man who ‘owns’ a private jet, multi-billion naira properties and drives vehicles worth hundreds of millions of naira. “Gov Abiodun at the recent Sagamu Day Festival said the town deserves a pavilion for the annual event. We need to ask Mr Dapo, where has he been since 35 years ago when Sagamites started the festival? How many has he ever attended? What were his contributions? Why haven’t he seen the need for a pavilion years ago? The governor needs to answer these questions and stop displaying hypocrisy. “It is even insulting to other tribes in Ogun State that Gov Abiodun could say out of every five persons who are qualified for jobs from government, three are from Remo. This is a multi-ethnic state where we have Ijebu, Egba, Yewa, Awori, Ketu, Anago, Egun and others. Is the governor telling us that other tribes are not qualified enough for jobs in his government. “He even confessed to have been carried away thinking he was ruling over Remo alone and not the entire Ogun State. This is unbecoming of a governor. “Our prayers daily is that God should forgive our sins as a people and intervene on our behalf. Save our dear state from this spiral fall and enthrone a progressive leader that will govern and develop Ogun state as a whole. Soon, very soon, our prayers shall be heard.” https://dailypost.ng/2019/10/28/gov-abiodun-under-fire-for-saying-remo-will-continue-to-rule-ogun-nigeria/ |

Kinsmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Chief David Lyon, have promised to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) standard-bearer, Senator Douye Diri, on November 16. The Director of Media and Publicity of the Senator Douye Diri Campaign Organisation, Dr. Jonathan Obuebite, said yesterday in a statement that the Southern Ijaw people took the decision at Amassoma. Obuebite said Amassoma, the country home of the first civilian governor of Bayelsa State, the late Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, is the largest community in Southern Ijaw Local Government. The people displayed placards with inscriptions such as: “Amassoma is for PDP, Amassoma is PDP”, “Say no to APC”, “APC responsible for the untimely death of our brother, Chief Alamieyeseigha.” The mammoth crowd said that the PDP administration impacted positively on the people and deserved to be supported. The Vice Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government, Pastor Perkins Ogede, warned the APC against dropping the name of the late Chief Alamieyeseigha in its desperation for undue political advantage. He said that until his death, Alamieyeseigha never believed in the ideology of the APC. Ogede said: “The APC should stop using the name of the late Alamieyeseigha to curry political favour. Everything in Amassoma, Alamieyeseigha’s country home, was provided by the PDP. For five years that Chief Timipre Sylva was governor, he did not drop one bucket of sand at the Niger Delta University (NDU). https://thenationonlineng.net/lyons-kinsmen-support-diri/ Lalasticlala Seun mynd44 |
The people of Kolokuma/Opokuma, the local government area of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, have vowed to vote for Chief David Lyon, the standard-bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The people, in a statement signed by the Secretary, Media and Publicity Committee, APC Campaign Council, Doifie Buokoribo, complained that Diri emerged as a candidate of PDP without consulting them. Speaking on behalf of the people of the area in Sabageria during APC’s governorship campaign rally, the Alternate Director General of the council, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, said that the PDP deceived the people of Kolokuma/Opokuma during its last primary election that produced Senator Diri. He said that the area had an illustrious son they wanted as the governorship candidate, but the incumbent governor of the state, Seriake Dickson, gave the PDP ticket to Diri without consulting them. Brisibe said the PDP candidate was not known to protect the interest of his people and could not be trusted to attract any form of development to the people, adding that there was no development in the area under Dickson. He said: “They claim we should support them because they have given us a governorship candidate. But did they consult us before giving us the governorship candidate? I urge you to vote for APC because we are sure of empowerment and development when David Lyon attains power.” Addressing the crowd that turned out for the rally, Lyon assured the people that if voted into office on November 16, he would complete the Sabageria/Polako bridge project that had been abandoned for eight years. Lyon, who was received by traditional rulers, elders, women and youths, promised to provide soft loans and grants for small and medium scale businesswomen from the area. He said: “I am an Ijaw man like you, and I know your problems because they are the same problems I face everyday as a person. When I become governor, I assure you that I will work hard to solve your problems. “First, I will complete the abandoned Polako/Sabageria bridge to connect you to Yenagoa City. I will build befitting schools, hospitals and roads to ease your challenges. “I will sand fill parts of Okoloba community in order to ensure that the annual flood that renders you homeless and jobless as a people don’t disturb you anymore. For our women, I will establish small-scale businesses for you. I will provide farm tools for farmers to sustain their means of livelihood.” The APC campaign Coordinator for Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government, Ndutimi Komonibo, said the best bet for the council was to vote for the APC. Said he: “That is why God has sent us a David to liberate our people from our enemies that don’t want our progress. My people, you know that our people are very intelligent. The governor, without consulting us, brought one of our sons as a candidate. “To me that is temptation. Are you ready to vote for that temptation? Our problem is that if Douye Diri becomes governor, he will become Dickson’s stooge and we will continue to suffer as we suffered under Dickson’s administration. “So if you ask me between Douye and development which will I choose? I will choose development because the PDP has not and will never bring development to us.” The APC campaign train later went to Opukuma, Odi and Kaiama. At each place, highly enthusiastic supporters, who endorsed the APC governorship candidate, met them. In turn, the APC team preached the message of a better Bayelsa for all. https://thenationonlineng.net/diris-council-endorses-lyon/ Lalasticlala mynd44 |

A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Setonji David has urged the Federal Government not to pay a lip service to the reconstruction of Lagos-Badagry Expressway, decrying the work pace. David, representing Badagry Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly, made the appeal in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos. According to him, though the project has been approved by the Federal Government, the snail pace at which the work is going will elongate the sufferings and the agonies of the residents of the area. “We are going through hell on Lagos- Badagry Expressway. Nobody wants to ply the road again. The journey from Mile 2 to Badagry in the 80s and early 2000 was just 30 minutes maximum, but now we spend 5 hours. “It seems the Federal Government is paying lip service to the plights of Nigerians in this area otherwise, the contractor would have been well mobilised for serious work. “Our people are really suffering. Sometimes, I wonder whether Badagry has been abandoned in the state by the Federal Government. I left my home in Badagry at 5:00a.m. and I could not get to Lagos until 10:a.m. “I spent hours from Badagry to Lagos this morning in a journey that should have taken me ordinarily 30 minutes and at worst 40 minutes to get to Lagos. “The road is in terrible shape, extremely bad as if the people of Badagry have done something wrong to belong to Nigeria,” David, the Chairman, House Committee on Home Affairs, said. According to him, though the Federal Government had awarded contracts for some sections of the road, the snail pace at which the work was going would make the residents suffer for many years. David said that the section from Okokomaiko to Agbara, given to the Federal Road Maintenance Agency to fix, was not making at any appreciable progress, “this is going at a very slow pace”. “The way they (FERMA) are going, that project will not be completed in five to six years. That means our suffering continues,” David said. He added that the section from Agbara to Seme border, also approved by the Federal Government might not be completed in many years to come. According to him, as a representative of the people, my finding showed that the contractor was not well mobilised to commence serious job. “I learnt that project was awarded for about N36 billion and the contractor was paid N1 billion for a year, that means in another 36 years, that project will not be completed. “It is like Federal Government has abandoned us in Badagry. Federal Government needs to come and do something urgently. We don’t know why Badagry should be neglected. “The contractors should be paid and monitored to expedite action on the road. The pace of work must be increased because as we speak, it is extremely slow. According to him, the corridor is vital to the nation’s economic development because it leads to other West African countries such as Republic of Benin, Ghana, Togo and others. The lawmaker decried the condition of the road, saying immediately after leaving Nigeria; motorists enjoy good roads in other neighbouring African countries. He said that the road had totally failed and there was nothing to be maintained except carryout outright reconstruction. David said: “We are suffering and the impression residents have is that they have been abandoned in Badagry. “The economic activities have completely been eroded. Who will do business in that kind of environment? We call on the Federal Government to do something to alleviate the suffering of our people. “No business can thrive in that kind of environment. Things that ordinarily cost N100 in Lagos is being sold at N200 in Badagry because of the bad road.” NAN recalled that the road had been divided into three sections. The first phase from Eric Moore in Lagos to Okokomaiko (Channel zero to 20) is being handled by the Lagos State Government. The second phase- Kilometre 20 to 32 (Okokomaiko- Agbara) is being undertaken by FERMA while the Federal Ministry of Works is to handle the largest chunk of the project from Agbara (kilometre 32) up to Seme Border. The Federal Government through the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) on June 19 flagged-off repair and maintenance works on part of the Lagos-Badagry expressway. https://www.sunnewsonline.com/lagos-badagry-expressway-lawmaker-sends-sos-to-fg-decries-work-pace/ Lalasticlala Seun mynd44

It was said to have been caused by the negligence of some artisans in the area. It was gathered that firefighters could not extinguish the fire. A trader said a security man raised alarm on noticing the fire outbreak. She said it took the collective effort of residents to prevent the fire from further spreading. She said: “The fire started early this morning at 3 am. It was only the security man that was around when the fire started. He struggled to rescue Stephen, a blind man. “He (Stephen) was the one that was shouting ‘help me o’. The security man heard it and rescued him. But before he (security man) could return, his properties got burnt.” Several victims were seen lamenting their losses. A victim, identified as Ebi, could not respond to questions as she was traumatised by her loss. Eyewitnesses said she recently stocked her store with drinks but lost them to the fire. Following hours of search, experts have captured a lion that escaped from its cage at Kano Zoological Garden on Saturday night after the lion had devoured goats that were resting in their cage. Head of the zoological garden, Sai’du Gwarzo, told BBC Hausa on Sunday that the lion was found inside the zoo premises. Mr Gwarzo said the lion was found in a cage belonging to goats. It had killed and eaten all the goats in the cage. “The rangers had succeeded in locking up the cage before the lion was shot with an injection which made him less harmful before it was captured and returned to its cage,” he said. The escape was said to have occurred around 9 pm on Saturday when rangers were trying to put the lion back to its cage after returning from the national agricultural show which took place in Nasarawa State. The incident caused panic among residents of Zoo Road. “My entire family members will be indoors even if it will take one month to recover the lion. I have not experienced this kind of fear since I packed into this area more than 15 years,” a resident had said. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/10/just-in-escaped-lion-found-in-zoo-after-devouring-goats-in-cage/amp/
