Hello Everyone,
I need help!!
Is there anyone of our landed seniors who is a graduate of Environmental Resource Management or its related courses with an experience of the labour market for this course, please let's connect. I need information about what works or the related courses been studied in Canada. I have been checking online and have noticed they kind of breakdown stuffs as a course unlike what we got here in Nigeria where we were made to do a little of everything without really been grounded in one. Please if anybody knows a link to any group with ERM discussion, please help me out.
Thanks in advance!! |

Only1babadee and Mzjennypher I need help. I know you once had issues with your profile please help.
I created an express entry profile but later withdrew it. I wanted to create a new EE profile but found out that my previous account was still active (not deactivated). I logged in to find that I still have an account but it's states that my profile has been withdrawn. In fact it mentioned my name and welcomed me. I'm a bit worried with this development, and don't know if I did it wrongly. How do I know it has been withdrawn?

Blackbuddy: Thanks for your kind words, my contributions here are just my little way of giving back as I too was helped along the way and I`ve long since learnt that our strenght lies in our community/collective succes so wether we like it or not, we need to look out for each other especially in Canada. Like I earlier mentioned, due to some mix up, my wife and I did not get an invitation for the classroom training on time. The next available class would be for when we would have left Nigeria so they scheduled an online session for both of us. My wife took a day off from work while I logged on from my office so we were both together on the online conference call with a counselor in Canada. I recommend both the PA and spouse to attend the training together, it is equally beneficial and helps you both have the same perspective on things. That way, when decisions are being made on the family`s future here, you both understand what is at stake and what options will be best to choose.
It is wisdom when you say that people should pack their minds with information as they pack their luggages with their belongings. The pre-arrival programs will prepare you for some of the cultural shocks and put you at ease so that you are not uncomfortable with change but more receptive to the difference and how things are done and how they should be done. As simple as learning the difference between a cv and a resume can make a big difference in how you market your self for job search. Knowing that Nigerian job interview style of displaying that you`re technically sound on the job is not enough but that you also need to identify, groom and project your awareness of `soft skills` which is a major focus in Canadian job interview.
A lot of our people get to a job interview here and they hear, `you don`t have Canadian experience`, they get deflated and defeated and just stumble through the rest of the interview and that ends that. If they had gone through a pre/post landing training program, they would have learnt that that question is the biggest help they could have ever had in that interview! It simply means ``convince me that inspite of your foreign experience you can work here, you can fit in``. That question is where you now say something like `yes I dont have Canadian work experience but I understand the niceties of the Canadian work place and I`m aware of the importance of mutual respect, tolerance, collabaration and diversity. I`m bringing my wealth of experience and unique perspective on what this role entails to enhance and enrich the way in which things are done. I`m very adaptable and teachable and I take every opportunity to increase my skill level so that I am constantly improving as an individual in order to bring efficiency and innovation to my work. I know your organisation values diversity and innovation and as your colleague, you will find that I am a great fit and excellent addition to the team`. You see this small sentence/interview response here? That is what they want to hear, as simple as it sounds. This is what is meant by Canadian experience, to know how to work among Canadians, to talk softly, calmly and enunciate properly. To have an awareness of the Canadian workplace culture and not to discuss race, sex, religion, age or status. To be professional but cordial, always thinking about the job first and not your self, projecting the spirit of a team player while bringing your uniqueness as an individual. Notice I didn`t focus on Canadian work experience but Canadian experience. They already know you dont have Canadian work experience before they invited you to an interview. What they don`t know, what your resume does not show is if you have `Canadian experience`, if you will fit in to the organisational culture they already have, if they can spend 8 hours everyday with you, sometimes in high pressure situations and not regret hiring you.
The above is just a little of what people stand to learn from the training programs. Please, don`t be persuaded by relatives and friends here who tell you not to bother with the trainings but just launch yourself into the job market. A smart person is one who takes advantage of the trainings and still chases the jobs together, at least, you will gain info, knowledge and confidence and hit your target more efficiently. If we will but humble ourselves and apply some of these principles, success will be the result and the journey will definitely continue in praise. Hope this helps. Thank you so much for sharing this, it's benefit outweighs the risk. Thank you. |

Kontagious: Thanks Boss!
Elfmann, come ann see your people ooo.
Why send you to Abuja when you can do in Lagos? And what has time got to do here? Is it that Abuja’s requests gets attended to much faster than Lagos or any other test center? Ayam not understanding.
Good to hear EOR can be requested outside test centers though. @ Cochtrane and GlitteringStar, for the archives.
If you follow their advice, means you have to courier your TRF to Abuja. This advice has prompted me to share this experience I had with BC;
So, because I didn’t decide on time if to rewrite or wait for my remarked result, the test I booked got expired due to nonpayment. I registered on Friday I got the 1st result, the booked slot expired the following Friday.
I got the email notification that my time to pay had expired hence the test slot cancelled. Immediately I got that mail, I did a little digging to see if I could still pay and retain the date. From what I read, seems like they do not receive payment same day in some cases, sometime receive the next or two days later. So, I paid like 15mins after the mail. Bear in mind mail BC sent states I should get in touch through call, mail or visit if I wish to retain my date.
I tried calling but trust BC’s line not to connect, their response on emails when they decide to respond are appalling to me so I didn’t even try emailing. Last option was to visit, being a Friday, I had to get their before 12noon which I did.
The shocker, lady I spoke to said the test date I paid for was filled and I had to do a mail requesting they book me for the next available date but the payment will suffice. By my calculation, result of the next date will be available maybe just a week before I get result from the EOR. Not worth it if I was to take the exams on that date. I told the lady I wasn’t down for any other date apart from the one I had paid for, if me taking on the preferred date was not possible, I’d rather initiate a refund process.
She turned to her colleague and said I wanted a refund, both of them spoke gibberish for few seconds, later worked on her computer (for about 30 seconds) and to my surprise said “it’s been reversed”. I was like what’s reversed, my money? She said no, the cancellation and I should receive a test confirmation before the next Tuesday. In my mind I was like so you can reverse the cancellation within a very short time and with little effort but you’d rather tell me to go write on another day. Telling her my mind wouldn’t add much so I left.
Had I not insisted, she would have made it seems I had no option than to take her unpleasant advice. Much later, some participants on this thread would ask if test dates were retained after cancellation but I couldn’t share this experience then cause of time. I hope this is useful for someone tomorrow. Nawa for BC naija,. Their shakara can wake the dead. Time in my case was because according to the lady that attended to me, that even after applying for the remark in Lagos, they will still send it down to my center which is Abuja before sending out. And the six weeks validity was almost finishing, had to get someone to do for me from Abuja. But in all, BC Nigeria is a huge mess. |

Kontagious: Seems more like you have to apply for the remark from your test center. If i am correct, Enugu's test center is in Port Harcourt and not Abuja. However, if you have your TRF with you and you're presently in Lagos, why not raise the bank draft and try their Lagos office. If its not possible requesting from Lagos, then you have to send to your test center.
Remember, EOR can only be made within six weeks from test date which you barely have 10 days left. Please house!
Try the Lagos office, and please remember to give feedback. . Still on the IELTS remark matter, do they attend to remark issues everyday? I forgot to ask them if they do it like collection of result. |

CAstruggle: If you are not happy with your IELTS score, you can apply for an Enquiry on Results Service (EOR) ie Remarking through the IELTS Administrator at the British Council centre where you sat for your exam. The cost for Standard IELTS remark is NGN15,000 payable by Banker's draft addressed to British Council. You will also need to fill the EOR form at BC office and submit your original Test Report Form.
This procedure takes six to eight weeks from the date your scripts are received by the Senior Examiners in the UK. Giving consideration to the travel time to and from the UK, it may take ten(10) weeks from the date of your payment for the Enquiry on Result service.
If your score increases after the EOR you will receive a new Test Report Form and the EOR cost will be refunded. Therefore, keep your payment receipt with care as this is required to give refund. If your score remains the same original Test Report Form will be returned to you.
Please note that during the period of re-marking the test results are frozen and cannot be sent to an immigration authority. Thanks a lot, already on it |

Kontagious: You need to raise a bank draft of N15,000 in favour of British Council.
Go to British Council's office of your test center, speak to any representative that you want to request a remark, you'd be guided to the appropriate personnel where you'd be given a form to fill then asked to hand over the result and the bank draft.
So, go along with your TRF and Bank Draft.
Please note you can only request for remark if the test date is not up to six weeks. Alright.. Thanks bro |
