Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has hired disgruntled students’ union leaders in some Ondo State owned tertiary institutions to stage a pro-government protest against the students of Adekunle Ajasin University who have been campaigning for a reversal in the recent astronomical hike in their tuition, Sahara Reporters can report. It was authoritatively learnt on Tuesday night that some of the hired students’ leaders have been asked to mobilize other groups from different campuses to support the state government against the Adekunle Ajasin University students. Students of Adekunle Ajasin University had on Monday begun a massive protest over the hike in their tuition fee from N35, 000 to N180, 000. The protests by the students on Monday crippled business and commercial activities in the state capital. Many of the students who spoke during the protest said the new fee was unacceptable and not affordable. They also accused Governor Akeredolu led government of commercializing the educational institutions in the state. Local traders and market women who are parents had already shown solidarity with the protesting students and called on government to urgently reverse the hike in the tuition. read more story here |

Baring last minutes change, the former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola will today resign as the Chairman of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) as all seems set for the unveiling today of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CN). Oyinlola is a close ally of Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo and has been appointed as the national coordinator of the third force championing by the former President. He was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari few month ago to lead as the Chairman of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). The aggrieved members of the Ekiti State Chapter of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the main opposition All Progressives Congress, APC and are said to be considering Obasanjo’s platform called the Coalition for Nigeria to achieve their political goals in the 2018 governorship election. The Coalition for Nigeria, a third-force political group being championed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, appears to be a major platform that has continued to attract prominent members in Ekiti State. One of the aggrieved governorship aspirants, who spoke to one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity for fear of persecution, said it was becoming clear that many of them would be denied electoral tickets by their parties and the option was to consider Coalition for Nigeria. The PDP governorship aspirants such Prince Dayo Adeyeye, Ambassador Dare Bejide, Senator Biodun Olujimi and the prominent leaders of the PDP, Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, Serving senator from Ekiti Central Senatorial District are set to join Coalition for Nigeria (CN). Also, APC governorship aspirants such as Chief Segun Oni, Yinka Akerele, Senator Ayo Arise, Senator Gbenga Aluko, Hon Olufemi Bamisile, Muyiwa Olumilua and many members of the APC caucus, especially those who crossed from the PDP ahead of the 2014 Ekiti election are set to join Coalition for Nigeria. “This will happen because many APC governorship aspirants would not be given a ticket to contest and they would likely join the third force Governorship aspirants for other parties such as former deputy governor of the state, Chief Abiodun Aluko, former serving senator, Bode Olowoporoku are likely to join the Coalition for Nigeria. A 71-year-old Indonesian mechanic, Roni Gunawan has been drawing eyeballs of confused onlookers for his two-faced car that has two front sides making its rear look mirror images. To make the metallic orange sedan, he spotted two Toyota Limbo cars into halves and welded the fronts together at his garage. He spent six months with the help of ten workers for his creation. The car has two engines, two steering wheels, two pedals, two gear sets and a single fuel tank that is designed in such a way that it can be driven simultaneously by two drivers. While the car has been the talk of the town, his dream to drive the unique vehicle is not going to see the light anytime soon as he has not followed the local traffic laws. His car was seized by local police on January 15 within few hours after it hit the street for the first time for violating the rules. The Senior traffic police officer said he violated two articles of the 2009 law on vehicle roadworthiness, including a requirement that cars feature all of the proper safety signals. Fulani herdsmen in the early hours of (Thursday) stormed Orin-Ekiti in Ido Osi local government area and killed a pregnant woman. The eight months pregnant woman is said to be a Tiv woman from Benue State. It was learned that the assailants also injured several other people in the attack. read more here |
M-Net West Africa has announced that the third season its popular reality television show, Big Brother Naija, will start Sunday, January 28. The show will premiere with a special two-hour episode on DStv channel 198 and GOtv channel 29. M-Net had earlier announced media personality, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, as the host. Auditions for third edition of Big Brother Naija were held late last year in six locations across Nigeria drawing massive crowds. Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Mrs, Feyisetan Fayose, has said that those who oppose her husband’s decisions are “obstructing the work of God,” warning that the “consequences will be too much for them.” Mrs. Fayose said God had revealed to her a long time ago that her husband was going for a position of authority higher than the governorship he currently holds. Senator Francis Okpozo was appointed as Chairman of Nigerian Press Council (NPC). Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress. Abubakar confirmed this in a statement he personally signed on Friday. He also gave reasons for quitting the party. However, he did not state which party he intends to join, but said he is pondering on his political future. The statement, titled: “Statement of resignation of His Excellency Atiku Abubakar (Waziri Adamawa) Vice President of Nigeria, 1999-2007 from the All Progressives Congress,” reads in full: “On the 19th of December, 2013, I received members of the All Progressives Congress at my house in Abuja.
